I’m 79 and I’ve been to about 12 elvis concerts. 4 in the 50s 2 in the 60s and about 6 in the 70s. I’ll tell you I’ve never seen or heard anyone better than elvis and I’ve seen a lot.
And I was in Germany at the same time. Only, I was in Stuttgart/Berlin.

Me too - it's so cool to see their reactions! I grew up listening to him on my Mum's record player. I was 10 when he died and I remember exactly where I was when we heard the news. What a beautiful man!

She left the Sweet Inspirations to launch her solo career and raise her family in 1970

Darlene Love was a member of the background group The Blossoms. The Blossoms were his background singers at the '68 Comeback Special. But in Vegas and on tour the Sweet Inspirations were his background singers, from 1969 till his last concert in June 1977. Cissy Houston was only five weeks with Elvis and the Sweets.
So neither Cissy Houston nor Darlene Love were there that night.
I loved watching younger people watch Elvis for the first time. It’s great.
He isn't the King of Rock'n'Roll for nothing, and he was cool before coolness exists.😎
His vocal range and his versality is unbelievable.

When my beautiful wife was 19 years old, she and her boyfriend at the time, were in line trying to get tickets to see Elvis perform that night at a venue in Lake Tahoe. While they were in line, A large man in a suit approached them and asked my wife if she had a nice dress she could wear, if he got her tickets to the show. She said she did have a peach colored sleeveless gown. So the man explained to them that he is Elvis's assistant and Elvis likes to have pretty women sitting near the stage, so he would get her in. He said to just meet right in front 15 minutes before the show and he would escort them in. So sure enough, later that evening, true to his word, the large man escorted them to a table near the stage. She was very nervous as she had a fake ID, and was sort of shy. Towards the end of the performance Elvis started to sing "Can't Help Falling In Love". he walked over to their table, took my wife by the hand and pulled her on stage and sang the song to her! He then gave her a signed scarf he was wearing. We have that framed in our home... a very special memory for my wife.

And at one point when Elvis was scheduled to play a concert in the new Houston Astrodome there were certain one's in the promotion that didn't want Elvis to have "the Sweet Inspirations" ( his 3 backup singers that happened to be colored Ladies) to be on stage with Him as this was such a hugh venue,, actually the biggest He had ever played live,, and race tensions were still present from the '60's' civil rights movement,,..
But Elvis told them that "His Girl's" ,, as He called Them,, would be there on stage with Him or He would not perform/play...!!
And that was the end of that,,..
'The Sweet Inspirations' were there and nothing else was ever mentioned about "His Girl's" in a negative manner around Him..!!
Everybody has flaws,, but for whatever Elvis's was,, it's pretty clear that racism wasn't one of His,,..He genuinely loved those Ladies and they said so themselves~☆!!

Yes Sir if I'm not mistaken the 'Sweet Inspirations' were hired to perform with Elvis in the "68" Comeback Special' and were with Him as He started back doing live performances..!!
@@claryprince2499 actually the Comeback Special was filmed in June of 1968 and aired in December of 1968. He hired the Sweet Inspirations when he decided to perform live again. He hadn't performed live in 8 years when he opened at the International Hotel in Las Vegas on July 31 1969 for a 4 week engagement. So he hired The Sweets almost a year after the Comeback Special.
Btw, the actual title was "Singer presents Elvis" It was an NBC special sponsored by Singer (the sewing machine company) only later did it become known as "The Comeback Special"

I saw Elvis in Tahoe in 1971. My parents took my sister and I to see him for my sister's 10th birthday. Elvis pulled my sister up on stage, sang happy birthday to her and gave her a kiss. He also gave her a 4-album set. A moment she'll never forget.

I am 81 and grew up in the 50's. When Elvis came along all the guys were jealous because all the girls were smitten. I went to the last concert he did in Las Vegas and I enjoy many of his songs. Elvis really was an extremely good showman.

When I was six years old I met Elvis and His manger colonel Tom Parker at col. Tom's office in Nashville. It was just by accident, but even at that age I was a big Elvis fan, and I recognized him and yelled at him and he motioned for my dad to pull in and he came to the car and hugged me, I told him I loved him and he said I love you too little man. Unfortunately cameras weren't always handy back then like they are now. But I am 50 now and I will never ever forget that moment.

. ..jeez, lucky dog . ..I remember being 6 & he was on a tv variety show like The Andy Williams show & many more shows too...but I would get so excited & nervous about seeing him on tv that I would scurry under the coffee table in the living room (it was a raised table on legs) and watch him perform from there because I still believed that people on tv could see us too..honestly, that’s what I believed then...lol

She said that when Elvis entered the room, the girls couldn't look at hims because he was so handsome. They were afraid they would start staring.

For the fame he had I am surprised he lasted as long as he did. People use your fame to get what they want so probably gave him stuff in drinks or telling him it was something else to keep him going.

I was only 7 when I was in the backyard with my mother and the news came over the radio. I vividly remember my mom crying along with our neighbor.

I'm 70 years old now. In high school I had over 2,000 pictures of him, all of his albums, went to his movies at least once; sometimes 2 or 3. He died on my 3rd wedding anniversary! That just wasn't right! From then on I have told people, "this is the day Elvis died, oh yeah, it's also my anniversary". Husband is very understanding. Now I am similar with Alan Jackson!!! 🤠😎👵

My grandfather served in the Army with Elvis and they became friends. We have a lot of pictures with him and Elvis together, and one letter that Elvis wrote to grandad after my great grandmother died.

What stuck out in his mind about Elvis was his generosity, even at that young age he had a huge heart for poor people, he really felt compassion for people on a deep level.

I won't say y'all's name but they lived in pigeon forge and your grandad was a big man about six foot nine, right?? There dog's name was King and he was a white German Shepard?
We know we were blessed! Believe me we know. I was 17 years old when he passed and I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the sad news in New Zealand. He was and always will be the king. I’m so glad the young generation like yourself appreciate him today. 🙏

Once you saw Elvis in person you were never the same. It was pure magic, an experience that is so hard to explain to someone that never experienced it. Most of all, you could feel the love, the place was filled with it.
I saw Elvis live in 1972. My big brother took me to the show. It was like a religious experience!!! Great memory. So wonderful.❤
My Mom is a huge Elvis fan and she saw him in concert in 1972. I remember when on the radio they said he died and my mother was crying so hard she had to pull over because she was crying so much. I was 7 years old when he died and I am a huge fan of his thanks to my mom. He truly had a God given talent. My parents and I went to Graceland in 1988 and my husband took me to Graceland last

Elvis led a very troubled personal life with failing health in his early 40s. He died at only 42yrs old. The only time he was truly happy was on stage singing to people whom he adored. He was very generous and charitable and never forgot his humble roots. His talent and voice are unmatched.
I read somewhere that Elvis' father was afraid he'd go broke from the amount of money he'd just give away to both the members of his inner circle and total strangers...
Sissy Houston said " when she worked with Elvis that he was so handsome you didn't want to look anywhere else"!! And Elvis was a black belt on karate!!

Sorry, I disagree. Karate isn't as effective as it was in MMA competition but in CQB or H2H combat it still is-- especially when the instructors don't care about "rules" but in survival and it's a fight to the death. And by all accounts, until the last 2 years of his life, Elvis could still handle himself that is if he wanted to kill with his bare hands then he could.
Elvis Presley was an 8th degree black belt in karate. He took an interest in karate in 1958 after he was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany. His first instructor was a German shotokan stylist named Juergen Seydel who taught Elvis at his off-base housing in Nauheim. During his leaves to Paris he would take private lessons with Tetsugio Murakami, one of Japan's top shotokan stylists, who would help pioneer shotokan in Europe. After Presley’s discharge from the army, he would continue his studies and training in karate.
Elvis qualified for a 1st degree black belt in 1960 in Memphis with the great Hank Slomanski, a Chito-ryu stylist. The Sergeant Major was one of the first legitimate North American martial arts masters. By the late 1950s, Slomanski was the sensei at Fort Campbell and trained 101st Airborne recruits martial arts. As recorded by STARS AND STRIPES, in the 1950s Slomanski was introduced to Chito-ryu, a Japanese style founded by Dr. Tsuyoshi Chitose. Basically, Chito-ryu is a combination of Goju-ryu and Shorin-ryu karate. He stunned the Japanese karate masters by beating 119 opponents to win a tournament in Japan becoming one of the few non-Japanese to do so.
Elvis trained at Fort Campbell with members of the 101st Airborne. For his first fight, he squared off against 4th degree black Sgt Saur. Elvis lost after absorbing a flurry of full contact strikes to his body. He was on his hands and knees but as Slomanski put it:
"I saw Elvis slowly get up with that sneer on his face ... then I saw in his eyes what we usually see only in war: Elvis wanted to kill! As the two men once again clashed I stepped in to break Elvis and Sgt Saur apart but I found out what I wanted to know. The kid was a fighter - not a quitter. Also Sgt Saur would comment that they would occasionally have a beer after training, but he and Elvis never became friends. As a rule Elvis rarely drank, but he made an exception to sit down and have a beer with the boys.”
There was no favoritism involved. Elvis was awarded his coveted black belt after six weeks of persistent suffering inflicted by Hank Slomanski and the 101 Airborne recruits and future Rangers and Green Berets. In the end, Elvis became only one of a handful of civilians to whom Slomanski, a karate champion and later the future International Commissioner of Karate in the United States, awarded a "Black Belt".
Slomanski rose through the ranks to end his military career as a Command Sergeant Major, having served in airborne infantry, ranger (commando), and special forces units. His gravestone at Arlington National Cemetery indicates Slomanski served in combat in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded three Purple Hearts, one Silver Star, and a Bronze Star for his exceptional leadership as well as injuries sustained while serving in the War. Hank Slomanski was chosen as one of the elite representatives of the original Special Forces established by President John F. Kennedy. He retired from the Army sometime in the mid 1960s.
NOW you know why he was all sweaty. Elvis was very active on stage, incorporating some of his karate (Black Belt) moves into his act along with his dance moves. And as you saw he also had great sense of humor. He was a very deeply religious, generous and humble man and amazingly enough pretty much just a regular guy! That gained him a lot of appeal.

It’s sad that so many young adults aren’t shown legends. To not know who Elvis is, is so sad. He was amazing!
The last oldies station here closed shop about 3 years ago. If radio dies folks are left to their own devices and whatever is the latest coming out on whatever social media. Huge range of quality, genres and international --- very hard for the cream to rise to the top.
I don't want to start a fire in the comments, but I've noticed that when people talk about Elvis these days all they mention is "He stole from black culture" or whatever. And because of social media and its power today, that becomes the story. And that's all the younger generation cares about. It doesn't matter that he still had an incredible voice and incredible charisma and incredible range as a performer. He's shrugged off because of that. And it's a shame.

I also took martial arts from Ed Parker Santa Monica. I was also a telephone operator on the floor above Ed Parker studio. No one was allowed in the building when Elvis was there. Had to have special clearance to get it.

I watched him try to sing 'Unchained Melody' and it was absolutely embarrassing. I couldn't finish watching it was so bad. Now this was at the end of his career so all the drugging, being out of shape, and generally not taking even remotely good care of himself had to have taken its toll. (Note to Sushi: DO NOT watch anything from late in Elvis' career. I can tell you really like him and there's a lot to like so don't)
That said, no way was he ever going to hit those high high notes like Bobby Hatfield could. Simply no way.

You are correct in your analytical suggestions concerning Elvis latter days of his life performing the high note in this particular performance. I believe had Elvis performed this same song 10 years previously he would have knocked it out of the park as his voice changed his voice became deeper.

I was blessed to see two of Elvis Presley's Concerts and he loved his fans and he did love to perform for them!! ❤️❤️💕 I will tell you that he was on stage for at least 3hours and no headliners.💖 You were Blessed to hear Elvis the entire time.😇 Truly when he sang Gospel chills from head to toe and you felt every note!! 💖💖

I love this young women's reaction. As a boy (in 1956-57) I remember going to a friend's house one afternoon to watch The Mickey Mouse Club. People were just then starting to get TVs. My friend had an older sister, age 16-17, and I was amazed to see that she had covered her ENTIRE bedroom (walls, ceiling ! ) with Elvis posters. The mid-late 1950s were when Elvis first "burst upon the scene." I was still a kind of innocent 10 year old white boy. I liked his music, and knew he was "important somehow" but did not come to understand just who he really was until the early 1970s. I did not hear him in person, but I loved his music and saw him on TV. Guys respected him. Women adored him. His song "Caught in a Trap" is all about his love for women. He was pure magic. There was no one else like him.
I was 16 when Elvis died. I'll always remember, I was at some crummy after school job and of course I was way too cool for his music. But even as a dumb teen I knew something really big and important had left the world. Later in life I met an older guy at my job who actually knew Elvis in the army and was stationed in Germany with him. He said he was a great guy and always took
care of the guys he served with. No one had to pay for anything when they were out on the town with Elvis.

When I saw him in concert he sang for 1 hour and 45 minutes. His incredible voice never failed him. I saw him in Pine Bluff, Arkansas 9 months later he passed away. You should listen to fo his studio recordings, And the Aloha from Hawaii. Over 1 billion people have seen that concert. He always gave 100% of himself.

As an assistant high school principal, I once had a lady come to my office rip-roaring mad about something that had happened to her daughter. She started her story by saying she would have come by earlier, but was in Memphis touring Elvis' home. I told her I had been there, but the crowd was just too long for me to wait. Anyway, we started to talk about Elvis and the conversation went on well over an hour. She stood up to leave and was shaking my hand and I said "what about your daughter?" She said, "Oh, it was no big deal," and walked out happy with our mixed memories! I just shook my head! The magic of Elvis!
He was the first entertainer to do a live concert via Satelitte. I remember watching it on TV when I was 13. "Aloha from Hawaii." Awesome concert if you can find the DVD.

Was able to see Elvis in Oakland, CA , Nov. 11, 1972. The thing I remember most is the flashbulbs from cameras going off even before he got on stage. And, of course hearing all of the women screaming. Great Entertainer and show. Wearing the Thunderbird Suit and cape with the Jack Lord belt.

Was at Elvis aloha show in Hawaii. Wife and her friend were not sure they wanted to go, After the show they made me stay 2 hours to try and catch a glimpse of him leaving the building.
FYI, he told the audience when he was introduced one time as thr King, that he appreciated the sentiments but "Theres only one real King, and thats Jesus Christ"
