Hey Steve the drain valve can get bits of sand in it and leak I had that happen on 2 fx5 filters I purchased another output tap with a short peice of hose. disconnect the input first and and put output in a bucket securely then power on the filter to empty the filter that way much faster too. Also the filter basket t handles go the other way so the curve matches the baskets. The lid screw handles have a plastic dowel that can crack if tightened too hard and fall out. I would go easy don’t over tighten them. they ain’t cheap. All the best mate.
I was thinking of buying the fx6 for pretty much the same thing. I have a 3000L reef tank/pond. Was planning on just having the inlet on one side of the sump and the outlet downstream in the sump. Basically just for mechanical side stream filtration. Dont currently use filter socks or roller mat.
@aheimsvensson1573 The amount of misinformation that is continually regurgitated on social media is in itself nauseating. I've seen several individuals utilize canister filters in their extremely thriving reef tanks.
I’ve got a medium bio load on a 90 gal with a fx6 and it’s been 4 months watching this video I’m feeling like I need to clean mine 😂😅😅😅😅 it’s being moved to a 125 tho and will have 2 fx6 on it
Yes definitely, in my opinion. No detritus or anything collecting at the bottom of a sump. It's quieter, and easy cleaning once every few months for me. I'm going to add the 2nd canister for the other side very soon.
I'm so thinking doing this, Dont know why more people don't do it, Much better then Filter sock or even Filter Roller, Do you have any issues with P04 using tap to clean?
@@ROTTERtube Can't wait to try iv been pondering years can't understand why we all dont do it, Heck if your lazy well thats your fault not cannister, Thank you
No, never. My sand and rock in the tank are my bio media. It's only used to FILTER STUFF OUT. Anything in here that holds uneaten food and waste, I don't want any part of.
This FX6 has the same type of flow you would expect to see from a return in a standard tank. It's not strong, and not weak. The FX4 is about half and the FX2 is pretty weak.

so you have a sump now and also wanted to add the FX6? I did that. it worked well.
I go 4 months at a time as my tank is smaller. Nine fish and lots of coral.
Nice! Thanks for letting us know!
Live coral usually don´t accept canister filters because they are nitrate factorys and nitrate and coral doesn´t work...
Frequent water changes does the trick

I was cleaning once a month...new sponges. They're cheap...get them on amazon.
Was it worth running?

Nice! Thanks for the comment.

No issues using tap to clean. you could use water from a water change to swish around in the container if you want.

You dont use any bio media in there ? I have an fx4 full of ceramic bio balls on the outside rim and on the middle chamber packed with seachem matrix

What kind of flow does the FX have?? What does the mechanical filtration in the sump look like?
