Two years later still chugging and so glad I started the hobby with this beast! All coarse sponges and the cheap fluval skimmer routed to the intake using a barbed t-fitting has worked wonders

Have an FX4 in my 200Liter tank for a month now and i love it. Water is crystal clear and the flow is just right. Dont need an extra flow pump anymore.

Nice video on the fx6. I had several Fx5 filters in the past when I housed cichlids & they worked very well & efficiently.
I have the fx6 in my 75 gallon African cichlid tank and i love it. My water is crystal clear and the flow is perfect for disturbing the water at the top
Great video! I am going to install an FX6 on my 120 gallon Discus tank later today. Been using FX6 on my Malawi tank as well a couple of years ago and its one of the best cannister filters you can get. Definitely the most effective filter in the market.
There is no such thing as too much filtration... till the current gets so strong that the fish get flung around the tank

If fish slowly moves with the currents when eating food on the surface is that too much

I am about a week away from setting up my first big 75 gallon tank. I got the FX6 because it will be housing my very messy painted turtle. I got it because of its reputation in the hobby and I know it will do me right. May not cut my maintenance down too much but when your tank water is basically your pets living space, toilet, and drinking water, over board filtration is a must!!! :)
FX-6 is the battleship of filters. I have one on a 100 and it keeps it pristine. I am going to look into that intake spone. Thanks John!

I've been using an FX6 on a 75 for about a year with a baby Asian Aro. Bare bottom and the waters always super clean. just tranfered the filter and the Arow to a 145Gal. you wont regret using it on that tank 👍

I had the same idea. I want to use one of these for a goldfish tank.
So many variables when it comes to filtration options. So long as it works that is all that matters in the end. Have had a SunSun 304B UV 525GPH on a 29 G tank and it worked very well but it was the ONLY filtration on the tank and it was pretty much overstocked from guppies breading. The 525GPH rating was only accurate when there was no media in the canister. Flow went to 2/3rd flow compared to empty flow rate when new unused media was added and then to 1/2 of the initial flow once time went on and the media got dirty. Other factors may have contributed so I agree with the two times tank size with canisters because once your media gets used it drops to half of the advertised GPH
I have a fluval 206 on my 10 gallon tank and I don't regret buying it. It works great.

Hey John, great video! I'd love to put an FX6 on my 75g Mbuna tank but I can't afford to drop that much money at once. Instead, I bought 2 Marineland 360s at separate times when I had the cash. I replaced the carbon bags with more bio rings on both filters and if I do need carbon (after meds) I only put it in one filter. Also, I think having a pickup on each end helps get rid of more fish poo... oh, and I have a circulation pump that kicks on twice a day for an hour to help stir up dead zones. As for the video, I instantly knew that you got a new camera. The video was crystal clear. I do suggest, however, that you use manual focus (if available) on the "talking head" section to prevent the focus from switching between you and the tank behind you. Keep up the good work!
Yeah that's good advice, I noticed it too but I wasn't gonna record everything again lol. I already had to record everything twice cause of a settings issue.
I'm convinced, I'm getting one of these for my 75. I already have the Fluval Aquaclear 110 HOB and a big sponge filter in it, but this seems so much nicer. Gonna keep the 110 on it the FX6 and downsize the sponge filter.

Im running the fx6 on 75 gal tank. I have 2 clowns. A lemon tang. A 6 line wrasse. And a azure damsel. They love the clean water.

Hi, I too overfilter. My tank has a huge sump and I just installed an Eheim 2280 filter. Really, expensive but I love Eheim and as you said look after your fish. Also, I have a bit of coverage if the sump pump stops, as I have the Eheim going until I can get a new pump.

I didn't know you used the intake sponges from aquarium co-op! I use them on all my hob filters, I don't have a canister right now but don't have a tank large enough for one right now.
Just got my 75gal set up everything included for free. Looking to upgrade the HOB filters. Most likely going to get this.

I own a small aquarium maintenance buisness and for freshwater I definitely stand by fluval canisters also. Btw, two fx4s on a 125 is ALOT better than 1 fx6 in my experience. One day I hope to set up a 300 gallon, and I feel three fx6s should do the job well , since i don't like plumbing and why away from sumps personally.

Just came across the video don't have the FX6 yet but have the FX5 under my 220gl along with a wet dry sump system.Have ordered the FX6 my tank and the filter system has been going strong and doing a great job with my tank for around 12yrs but want to switch out the FX5 to the FX6

Cool video man I’ve just got the fluval 407 and my tank looks so much better. I’ve never seen one of those intake sponges does it slow the flow down or anything. Keep up the good work man I’m watching in the U.K.
Well, maybe I a wimp. I've absolutely had it with hang on back filters so I've gone to measly Fluval 406s on a 56, 55, 33, and 29. Probably too extreme for my 10 gallon 😊 Makes keeping spare parts a breeze. Also adds time before needing to be cleaned. Love it. Also all these tanks have sponge filters running continuously and I don't succeed but I try to do vacuumings and water changes daily.

I have an FX6 on my 58 gal tank. I have 2 smaller freshwater rays in it and they are really messy. The filter really keeps the tank looking nice!
The rays will eventually go in my 180 that I have 2 FX6s on.

I got a FX6 for my second tank, a 75 gallon. I was new to the hobby at the time and had african cichlids (water changes were once every one to two weeks). Now I have 3 blood parrots, 6 rainbow bosemani and 1 pleco and boy do they poop a lot! I do love my filter but I dread doing maintenance on it (which I just finished) - will have to get one of those sponges if it really does cut down on filter maintenance.
Funny I just found this video after buying a 75 gallon tank and the FX-6 so I can use it when I upgrade tanks for my soon to be new Flowerhorn. Makes me feel better about the purchase.
I used to run 2 fx4's on a 75 gallon planted tank (swapped out the output nozzle for the fx6 nozzle to give better spread and flow, never liked the fx4's output nozzle). Also used an eheim prefilter sponge and the filters ran clean for 6 months (just clean out the prefilter biweekly) could have ran much longer before a filter clean as the sponges werent dirty due to the prefilter
I set up my first tank 2 months ago and went with 1 fx6 on my 75. Upgraded the filter with the filter pro fx6 upgrade kit and even though i have nothing to compare it with i can tell it’s doing a great job and the water is clean and clear (looks like the bottle of seachem clarity i bought won’t see much action) now i wait for nitrate reduction so i can stop doing 2 water changes each week (I dream of this day)
I run a FX6 on my 75 gallon works amazing
Just put one of these on my south American cichlid 55g... all I have in it is a 3yr old breeding pair of electric blue acara . It’s a blackwater biotope and everything in the tank (except fish )was sourced from the local rivers and creeks in Tennessee

I have a fx6 on a 55 gallon peacock cichlid tank with a hob filter. I still clean it once a month.

I have a Fluval FX6 on my 75gal fancy goldfish tank. Plus i have a UV light as well. I get the feeling, and i still do 70% water changes TWICE a week. Good video! Ps just subbed. Perfect info. My thoughts exactly.

Wow. How many fish do you stock with? I have 6 fancies (5 telescopes and 1 pearlscale) I am upgrading my goldies to a 75 and researching what canister filter to put on it. I have two 110 aquaclears temporarily.
@@gabbyloveshorses17 I have 5 fanys in my 75. 3 in my 46 gal bowfront, and 2 baby ranchu in a 32gal. Over filtration is better than not enough. Remember surface movment creates oxygen.

I have two fx6s on my 75 gallon tank the fish seem very happy and the water is very clean ,moderately planted tank with many types of fish. I'm sure it's Overkill but I did not like the asymmetry inside my cabinet of one fx6 😂.

I have one on a 90 gallon freshwater tank that’s reasonably planted. It’s not overkill I feel and keeps the water clear. After trying LOTS of filter systems it’s hands down the best canister filter to date. Btw, I’ve been keeping fish for over 50 plus years
Great video! Did you just remove the clear plastic intake and just use the hose with a sponge filter? Love my fluval 206 but hate the clear intake and return.

I have 125 gallon
One FX6 with the sponges that came with it and 2 liters of seachem matrix
3 aqua clear 110 all with the sponge and a layer of poly-fill quilt batting to polish water and catch small particles, and a total of 4 litters of seachem matrix .
I also have sunsun JVP-201 wave maker for water circulation. Its works so well for keeping the an eating food and poooop moving in the tank till it gets sucked by the filters . And pool filter sand as substrate which is great for bacteria to grow on.
I clean the FX6 once every six months
I do water changes and clean all 3 aqua clears every 14 days , sometimes I go about 25 days on water changes. I tested that water in my tank and it's always 0 on everything!!!! Even after going 25 days or more without changing water !!!
I believe the seachem matrix is the key but not sure . Would like to hear your opinions on this guys . I've had the same setup for over 7 years now and never had a problem
I used to have a 304 and a 404 on my 77 Gallon with 6 red belly’s. They were messy eaters.

I have FX5 on a 100 gal and its awesome. The only difference that I have seen is the FX6 has less gallons per min but uses less power consumption then the FX5. So if you want a FX series go with a 5 to save some money :-)
I too love Fluval products and I do love my fx6 I want to get another one for my 110 aquarium.
I’m running two 407’s on my 110 right now but I think it’s time to just upgrade to an FX6 to keep it happy
1:54 better read the fine print on those specs. I believe the GPH they are quoting is "without filter media" in the canister. So, filter media will reduce flow, even when clean and it goes down from there.
