After 20 years, I’m back to Eheim classic without all the baskets, 30% more space. Very silent and reliable. I put the filter and biomedia in mesh bags and fill the cannister. And ready to go. These mesh bags are also much easier to clean than all the baskets with filtermedia. You can put all you want in it, also chemical media of course. Very good filtration and no noise, a friend of mine has one running for 33 years and still going strong. Use the valves to connect and disconnect. I have the cristal profi line from JBL, they all make noise! Eheim provides filtermedia when you buy one new, they should also include mesh bags, but you can buy these very cheap on Temu. People underestimate how much space you loose with all the baskets and flow compartiment in the baskets as other filters have (the big hole in the Oase baskets for example).
Older Eheim pumps, like many other products from the past, represent the pinnacle of German engineering. They were made in Germany with exceptional precision and quality control. Nowadays, many of their pumps are manufactured in China, and in my experience, the quality doesn't compare. They don’t last as long and feel subpar. I’d take a decades-old, high-quality Eheim pump over any modern "premium" pump made in China.
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed your detailed review of each filter. OASE stands out as my favorite due to the easy-to-remove prefilter, which makes cleaning a breeze. Thanks for the valuable insights!
Your video was really helpful! After hearing your thoughts, I’m definitely leaning towards getting the Marineland Magniflow. Appreciate the clear and concise reviews.
Great video on canister filters! Clear explanation of setup and maintenance. Perfect for both beginners and experienced aquarists. Thanks for the tips on selecting the right filter size for different tank types. Keep up the good work!😊
Oase owner here, currently running a biomaster thermo 350 on a 40 breeder, I haven't had any problems with it in nearly three years of use, only thing i don't like is the pre filters get clogged rather fast slowing flow down, i like the inline heater has good flow and how dead quiet it is (less than 10" from my bed) my air pump is louder. One recommendation to anyone is to clean the pre filter monthly and pull the inlet and outlet connector straight up when going to servicing the basket if you rock it back and forth you can break this tiny piece of plastic that holds the o-ring in place for the intake. Hopefully this helps anyone that comes across this.
Fantastic video! Your breakdown of the best canister filters is super informative and helped me make a confident choice for my aquarium. Thanks for sharing such detailed insights!
Great video ! I finally joined the Fluval cult a month ago and got my hands on an FX6 ! Loving it so far. I also have an Eheim classic (the Eheim 2215 model) that has been running for almost 12 years now
Awesome to hear. Eheims are so crazy reliable. I’ve seen a few that have run for over 20. I get get back to you about a collab. Been dealing with editor issues here
Wow, this helps me as an aquarium lover to choose the right filter, I really like the SunSun Pro filter which has advantages over others that match the tank I have.
It's worth noting that the valves on the Fluval FX series (maybe others as well) are very susceptible to sand. If you get one grain of sand in that bottom drain valve, it scores the smooth sealing surface of the valve and it leaks. This happened to me. It's a proprietary part of course and no spares nearby. I had to seal the hole with a silicon ear plug. It's a similar story with the valves on top. Make sure you budget for some spares and buy them at the same time you buy the filter itself. That could be said for all these filters. If you get a leak and you don't have spares, you're going to have a tank with no filtration until they arrive.
Superb video! I recommend checking out a canister filter you might not get in the west but used so much in homes, stores and showrooms! The brand is called SOBO! Really loved by us Malaysians and across the region!
@@AquariumStoreDepot it’s hilariously well built and super affordable! Long lasting and absolutely perfect on its own or if you upgrade by attaching it to an in line UVC Fluval or an external pre filter!
You spoke about the Oase being able to have the heater inside the filter unit. What others can do the same thing? Also, how easy is it to hook these up to a UV filter? Nice summary of the different filters!
Hi there and thanks for the compliment 😊 . No other canister on the market currently offers it like OASE. However you can purchase an in-line heather which would work for all other canister filters
@@AquariumStoreDepot thanks for the response! I'll have to check out and look for these. Any good brand/type of inlin heater you'd recommend? I'm guessing the same can be done for a UV filter light?
Great video. I have a 32 gallon tank, the Biocube 32. I want to get an Oase, but confused to either get the Oase Filtosmart 300, or the Oase Biomaster like you have. I like that with the Biomaster, I can just do weekly cleanings from the pre filter on the unit you're using. Help please!
I had used Fluvals for a long time 10+ years to be exact. But two years ago decided to switch to Oase 600 two of them and man I gotta say, the maintenance is easy with those prefilters. That’s the main reason I switched.
I wouldn't buy a Oase if my life depended on it. I've had too many of them go bad on me in a very short amount of time. I prefer the Fluval filters for a whole lot of reasons, including they being nearly bullet proof. I don't understand why the FX series got rated so far below the x07 series. They are used for two different things, and they are both unparalleled for the applications for which they were designed. The FX series are high flow filters which you use if you have a very large tank, or for very overstocked tanks, or tanks where the water is going to get very dirty (such as a turtle tank). They are also the filter of choice if you need to establish a current for certain species of fish such as hillstream loaches or shiners. The x07 series are for smaller tanks which are lightly to moderately stocked. Both of these filters are quieter than the Oase offering, so I don't know why they got dinged on that. I prefer having a heater outside of the filter, because if the heater goes out in the filter, then you just have wasted space, and depending on how it went bad, you might not have a filter anymore. It seems better to me to replace an external heater than to have a useless heater in the filter and have to put another one in outside the heater. The Fluval filters have enough other bells and whistles and optional add-ons that it makes it the one to beat. There are just so many features which weren't mentioned in the video, and if you put these head to head with the Oase, it's really not much of a contest, not to mention that I've never had a Fluval go bad on me, and I haven't had a Oase which lasted more than three months. To me, that's unacceptable, Personally, I'll never take the risk of buying a Oase again, no matter what bells and whistles they put on it. The Fluval FX series definitely doesn't belong as low on the list as it is by any stretch of the imagination. This is a flawed video/review, and you should take it with a grain of salt.
Everyone has their bias and the FX is on the later piece of the countdown because they are so expensive and the Fluval 7 series tends to be the best for the vast majority of buyers. I agree OASE does have a lot of catching up to do compared to the ironclad reputation that both Eheim and Fluval has. Eheim has been the most reliable for me. I have one that has been running for over a decade that I got back from a local fish store I used to work at.
I'm a fluval guy currently owning a couple FX6's and a 307 canister filter, and I've been wanting a new canister for my 75 gal Mbuna tank. Currently I have the Fluval 307 on that tank, but I want to put that filter on my 55gal S.American cichlid tank cause the hob on that tank even though it is a good filter it just doesn't move the water efficiently enough. I've been deciding between either a Fluval FX4, a 407, A Oase Biomaster or a Sicce Whale and I just can't decide which one I want to go with.
The Aquael Hpermax 4500 is far superior to the FX6 for large tanks. Their Ultramax range for smaller tanks. The FX6 is a great filter but it has fallen behind. It's pretty much unchanged for decades. The Hypermax has far more flow but more importantly far more media space. It also has dual outlets and inlets, the flow is adjustable with the press of a button, a pre-filter and the impeller is easier to access. It also fits in most cabinets as the body is tapered. It's just slightly more expensive than the FX6. But be aware there are three versions. I'm talking about the base model here. Not the WI-FI with heater or Bluetooth versions. You pay a lot extra for those models. Gimmicks in my dinosaur view. 😊
I love sunsun 304B with uv light inside until on the 2'nd year it start leaking every time I open n clean up the canister, use all the trick on TH-cam but it's not working at all
Looking for a more reliable one, my fluval 307 has already had to have the head unit replaced and now thats started leaking again, never buying a fluval again.
Great vid, but for the "Budget" filter, I'd go for the Aqua One Ocellaris... Reason is that I have used these filters and they have a great capacity for Bio-media and mechanical too. Their trays interlock and negate much of the bypass of others. Their flow rate is good alongside the build quality and media provided out of the box for their pricing... They are a good option for the beginner and seasoned alike...
@@AquariumStoreDepot I'm in the UK, and they are sold across a wide range of LFS and other larger chains of Pet shops. They are available on Amazon, and the price is reasonable, below £100 compared to a Fluval 307 at close to £160-£180 in the stores that I visit. So yeah, they are cheap, but work really well. They come with plenty of media including sintered glass noodles and stones, coarse sponges (Too open for my liking, but good to get you started) and medium coarse sponge. Piping is as you'd expect (useable. and has all the grubbing's and spray bar). The Ocellaris 850 that I have states 850ltrs per hour (which I feel is is probably close to when in use), and my 240ltr tanks water is crystal clean. I've yet to have an issue so far after a few years of use. A great budget Canister for the price and what comes with it.
Why is hardly anyone making fulters with adjustable pump speed? Controlling via valves is caveman level. Slowing down pump allows you to buy something larger and reduce speed to lower power draw and noise...

fluval only wins out on votes because that's the only real option sold in most stores. Had the FX-4 for years, it was garbage. It struggled with 125g despite claims it should handle twice that. At $300 is seriously underperformed and failed often. You also have an error on your eheim pro (#7). You list "sounded well on sound test" as a pro but then for a con listed "quiet operation". It's bad because it's quiet?
