I am aware that the "Hang" animation used with Tails won't work with Flying Batter "Hang Move" animation. This was animation was done this way because I had originally had it planned for the bungie animation in Stardust Speed Way Act 2 which I didn't noticed was unused until the last minute. It has 6 frames of animation but the one used in game uses the 5th frame of the Spring Twirl animation. Oof!
Also Sonic Mania Plus will be compatible with my mods once the mod manager is updated for that version of the Game.

This Hesse Sonic Concept mod uses sprites which are %100 custom and reference the Sonic Mania intro scene and the first episode of Sonic Mania Adventures. Throughout the video I will show these references. This mod is not intended for release but to
push my skills as an animator and spriter. Depending on how well this goes and your feedback, I may reconsider releasing as a mod later down the road.

Hortinus no. We should be thanking YOU for all the fantastic mods, drawings and covers you've done. I never thought that Tyson Hesse (my fav Sonic animator btw) would be able to get his version of Sonic in a game, yet you seemed to have done the impossible and bring it straight to Sonic Mania. Even just watching you draw his Knuckles inspired me to do the same, and I think it turned out quite well (not as good as yours, though). So keep doing what you always do, and know that you inspired people like me to do the same as you. Enjoy the 10k subs man, you earned every last one of them.
Two things:
1) Sonic increases his size during his falling with style animation
2) Make that infinite foot swirl a little smaller and, possibly, add an animation for non-top-speed running
3) At 3:58 I stopped and the eyes were corrupted (any idea why that happens, btw? I wanted to make a mod to have Sonic skid like he did in Sonic 2)

His sprites are good, but some of them don’t necessarily fit the game’s artstyle, plus some of these animations are erratic/sloppy.
Modern Me? Work for SEGA? Ha! Don't think I am even remotely consistant or good enough to do that...yet. However, given that this is indeed a concept mod, there is always room for improvement. With this concept mod, I plan to mitigate a lot of the issues that plagued previous mods and perhaps this Hesse Sonic is a step in the right direction.

I always felt like Sonic Mania was missing something and it was probably new Classic Sonic & Tails sprites. Knuckles looks different so I was fine but this makes Sonic Mania more new but classic at the same time, looks good.

The ONLY critique I have with this is that I think there should be a running animation then the figure 8 animation instead of the figure 8 being the running and dash animations

Just two suggestions. He needs another accelerating animation to come before the current one, looks weird going from 0 to arms swinging. Then I'd suggest a different animation for his standard run. Save the figure 8 for when he goes beyond the soft cap.
This is a reoccurring comment on this video. I'll try to update this when I get more animation references from the next episode of Mania Adventures. Thanks for your feedback! ^^
Hortinus Maybe check the comics. There has to be some images there for a resource! In fact when Sonic chases Eggman in the next level he has a slower run image where his feet go in SATAM escq circles.

A suggestion if you continue this mod make the idle animation the same as when the elevator opens in the opening animation (looking left and right)

Congrats on 10,000 subs man, you deserve it. This is a really nice idea and I do really love many of the sprites you made. (Especially the one where tails carries him and his stage clear animation) The only thing I wanna say is the figure 8 is really big, but I know that it is that big in the intro animation, just looks a bit off to me. Again congrats to 10,000 subs, let's see if you can hit 20,000 this year lol

This is honestly a dream come true mod for me, I really hope you release this because it’s honestly the perfect Tyson Hesse Sonic mod that I’ve wanted in the game since Sega dropped that famous Sonic Mania trailer (oh and that Tails holding Sonic animation is probably the best thing I’ve ever seen)

Nice job I feel like Hesse gives classic sonic so much more personality even though he can’t freaking talk and I feel you capture that style perfectly.
Even though Hesse's design is marvelous, it just feels wacky in sprite form.

RedoLane It just makes no sense. Why isnt hyper sonic in any other game? If its non-canon, then thats a massive plot hole as to how Sonic stopped Eggman in S3&K.

I think they blocked it due to it probably giving out seizure with it's incredibly flashy light and sparkles so they removed hyper form for it's own good it was to dangerous and powerful
Superwolfkid playing Sonic would cause seizures to people anyways with his high speed movement and gameplay

I like the art style, as it tries to truly adapt Sonic's true classic form, or the toei animation (Hesse and the modder did a pretty decent job, I should add). It would be better if the mod didn't had the super peel out as a regular running motion, but instead have it when Sonic reaches maximum velocity. Take the Sonic CD pencil test running sequence as a reference, in the second phase when Sonic starts running faster after jogging for a while. Plus, it would also be better if the super peel out had different running motions instead of the regular infinity symbol, or as in some of the comics call it, super figure 8 (ugh). Take for reference the original sprites on Sonic's Peel out on Sonic CD. This way it hardly resembles a running motion moving at high speeds, even though it's legitimately tracing Sonic's feet movement. Even though this is not meant to be seen completely because it's moving too fast, it is quite easy to spot. It should be reminded that Sonic moves his feet in a frenetic maner after reaching high speeds, and not follow at the very least a small patern or a single trace, like it is the famous infinity symbol.
EDIT: I also would like to point out that basically Hesse's version of Sonic is a homeage to Toei's Sonic, as you can clearly see in the intro when he starts running, just like in the pencil test shown in Sonic CD.

Hortinus Well, they're covering a huge area of space and look more like a whirlpool mess. I'd just make loops smaller. I hope that makes sense.
Hortinus I think the issue is that there is no intermediate run, he just goes right to full speed. I agree the loops are a tad too large, and seem to flail too quickly given Sonic's speed. I love the rest though!

This is really amazing! One thing I have to suggest though is to make another walking animation, as the existing fits more in the jogging animation.

Hortinus, dude, your mods are incredible. From Shadow, to the INCREDIBLE Metal Mania that you've assured us could only get better with more modding for Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles. This Tyson Hesse model is incredible, and really what I enjoy. I don't care if that hanging animation doesn't work for Flying Battery it's gold. I guess in closing, I hope you expand on this mod, and we can see maybe Hesse Knuckles or Tails or Super Sonic in the future. I don't think Eggman needs one, personally. Thanks, and keep doing what you do!

There is you often don't get through little animations with your mods, such as the spring jump, or the pushing animation.
I know this is an early concept, but with such a drastic art style change, you might have to go all the way, at least in Characters.
