This is how Sonic should have looked like at the first time, comparing the Tyson Hesse's artstyle in the animated scenes to the in-game sprites (That were totally based Sonic 1/CD with some major changes in color palettes and smooth animations), there's a big difference in artstyle, I'm glad you made this into an actual thing, Jerry, nice job! ;)

My god dude... Seriously this is amazing!. Please make this available. And please contact SEGA and see if we can apply this skin to the actual game. This is beyond words because it adds so much more personality to sonic!! This NEEDS to be the next evolution sprite of sonic. So says I a random fan on the internet. Beautiful job buddy! This sprite style needs to be the next classic sonic model.
Hey thanks for the support! Perhaps Christian Whitehead and PagodaWest and Co. probably *wanted* to make %100 percent new levels and sprites but perhaps Takashi Iizuka thought it be safe to just update the older sprites for nostalgia and time constraints. This is mere speculation obviously...
It would be awesome to see a Sonic Mania 2 or new 2D Sonic plat-former with Hessian styled sprites.

I honestly did not really think of that. I feel sonic team seems to not know how to handle or what to do with their IP much anymore. Sonic forces seem to echo such a thing. Hopefully with the popularity of sonic mania adventures maybe your work will be looked at more closely and incorporated into a possible new future sprite design. for the next Mania team project. are you going to use more frames from the other mania adventures episodes? I hope to experience this amazing mod and labor of love soon :)

This is fantastic sprite work! I loved all of it, but especially the sprites you've made for 0:45 when sonic is on the turning platform. Awesome attention to detail using the concept art to create the differently angled sprites for Hesse Sonic. The quick stop and turn animation inspired by the intro at 0:48 is so smooth! Also the walk speed sprite and Sonic looking up looks so good. You've really captured the personality Tyson Hesse puts into his animation. This sprite-set is honestly my favorite custom sprite work I've seen for Mania. Great job!

Good to see you are still at it man, last time I saw your videos you were making the Metal Sonic mod and I suggested you used the dark blue color he has in Sonic Mania and you took my suggestion. As a fellow but sadly retired spriter I must say that you've become one of the best Sonic spriters out there! Thank you for existing and making dreams come true.

Wow, this is incredible. My *one* problem with Mania was that Sonic didn't feel quite as expressive as he could have been, instead opting to use the same emotionless sprites as Sonic 1 and 2. this fixes that AND MORE. Hortinus, you're doing a god's work for our little Blue Blur.

You know, after seeing both this and TheBlueBlur's (slightly)Tyson-styled 3D model, I honestly kinda want Tyson's artstyle to become the main classic artstyle. Like, not only is it probably the best incarnation of Sonic, as it perfectly captures his character(as well as the rest of the classic cast), but it can actually fit in the games.

The saddest part of this video is that this mod isn't Sonic's default Sprites for Mania.

edit: I really like this actually. All of your mods really fit. They look like something the original sprite artist would make, and I love being able to use a sprite mod and play the game without feeling like the sprites don't fit or are distracting, though I'm pretty sure I said this in a previous comment.

These look _just like_ Tyson's frames, and it makes me wonder (aside from the need to tie it in with the previous games' sprites, but upgraded) why they didn't go with his style when making the animations for Sonic Mania.
Either way, I will definitely be getting this mod and I might end up using it more than the original animations, as much as I adore them still~

Also for a suggestion maybe you could add the buckles on Sonic's shoes.

You managed to do what SEGA should've done decades ago - you finally gave Sonic's sprites the personality that they were meant to have since atleast Sonic CD.
Not only that, but you also did a splendid job in terms of animation, they are super fluid and gorgeous to look at - my favourite is the super-peel-out, or when Sonic reaches max speed - it looks crazy and makes modern Sonic's boost feel like slow-motion 😂
I hope you can pull of something similiar with the drop-dash animation (we all know it deserves the animation of the sonic cd intro, when he curls into ball while rushing down the mountain or breaks the boulders), don't know if it's technically possible tho.
What you could improve a little, would be Sonic's head in his standing animation and normal running animation - his iris looks a bit too small, maybe add 2-3 more black pixels in his eye.
A few things again for the standing animation: it looks a tad stiff, maybe you can animate his spikes a bit, as if the wind would blow through them, let his eyes blink and/or give him a soft breathing animation, so it feels a little more alive - otherwise it wouldn't fit properly into the rest of the animation-set.
for his normal running animation i would suggest you to edit the head a little, it feels very stiff on a very dynamic body. Maybe make him close his eyes a little for the wind and make the spikes bounce a little more to give it a more fluid feel.
Please excuse the wall of text, but i reeeaally enjoy your work on this one! Keep up the great work and contact me if you need some advice or help!

Fantastic spritework! The mod is looking better and better. For the life of me, I prefer this version.
If I can give you some tips again:
- That braking animation needs more frames
- Will the twirl and other animations be "Hessed" or will they be left like the original?

I LOVED IT! It's even better than the last one. But here's a suggestion due to Hesse and Toei being rather similar styles. I've seen some mods that change the drop dash sprite - Cooler Senic - so why not give this Hesse sonic a new drop dash sprite. Inspired off the pose that Toei sonic does before doing the spindash. The best picture of this instance is when he's dropping down the mountain at the end of the Opening animation. I think coming up with something similar would look fantastic.
This is amazing. Mania adendes will help for other chareters if you want to also have other Hesse characters.

Many people think it looks amazing, and I REALLY want this.
I love using the already made 'Toei Sonic', but it doesn't feel or look like something that would actually exist in mania, where you make all sprites and characters look like they would ACTUALLY fit.
I think you should release it, but it's always up to you.
The next Classic Sonic game NEEDS this kind of artstyle direction, no more nostalgia spritesheets.

Tonnes of sprites missing which people won't like. This still a concept mod.
i loved that sprites man. if the game had those it would be even better. sonic would look sassier like he is meant to be. in my opnion he would have more personality on the main game.
