Some excellent footage in this one. I'm learning more everytime i watch these. My Dad and Pa were Subiaco born and raised and Dad used to talk about the trams. Pa worked at Govt Printing Office 50 yrs Wembley .Got the "golden handshake" & watch. They appreciated their workers more then! Keep them coming pls guys 😊👍
Thankyou for posting this. You did a good job. Enjoyed the history of the trams. My Mother as a young girl & grandmother used to catch them in North Perth, Angove St. As you say the tramlines were pulled up by 1958. The "WA Tracks by the Swan" Book you showed pics from here is Excellent read, the photos are wonderful tribute to yesteryear! You can borrow from libraries. Well worth a look!🚋🚞
my great great grandfather was apart of the "western Australian government railways, Ambulance corps" who was on the trams from around the 1920's-1940's. Thanks for this video its means a lot to me, to see there work talked about.
Sadly they wont ever listen to us. i mean if they did bring back the trams i would love to go to the city. but of course they dont want to. and instead want to spend their money on buses.
I remember the trams because, as a 4 year old, my Dad took me by the shoulders, turned me around and said "look at that tram and remember it, because they are going". Thanks Dad. I also have some memories of them tearing up the tram lines. All seems a bit ironic now that we are "electrifying" and a mass transit light rail system would be tbe ideal...
My mum was born in 1939 and she used to catch a tram from her house to her primary school, we think it was grade 1 so she was probably 6 years old. The main reason why she remembers is because she fell off and got hurt, she tried to get on the back as it was pulling away and another time she got on the wrong tram, made friends with another little girl and went to her school for the day, mum loved it and she had made a little friend. Imagine sending your little 5 year old girl to catch the tram by herself, that was a different era for sure lol
they're wanting to bring in trackless trams. But its the subject of a City of Stirling business case for Glendaough to Scarborough. There was talk of light rail / trams about 10 years ago. But unfortunately, a number of things went against it. Global Financial Crisis, GST rip off with WA missing out on money and the mining bust. The plans were laid for the light rail. But it was all canned for financial reasons. Since then the governments have moved on and are investing on extending train lines. Some researchers like Peter Newman now say that light rail is better off to be trackless trams. Pity. I remember in the late 90s governments were putting in business cases into light rail in Perth even then. Going to be from Curtin through to UWA via the City. Basically two routes through Subiaco (one through Rokeby Rd) and the other up Hay and Kings Park road. It was going to lead to an extensive removal of hundreds of fully grown trees unfortunately. But that was really very preliminary planning.
Back to the main problem .. ripping the tram lines up was the stupidest transit decision along with Charlie Court stopping all the long distance passenger trains (apart from Kalgoorlie and Bunbury).
Your videos are great, if you read the commentary out loud before you record it you’ll find that it improves the delivery and it a helps to relax you. Great videos, thanks
A couple of pointers = The wacker is spelt as WACA. Some of trams had FMT had on them -ie Fremantle trams which were seperate. In the comments in video NO capital letters at all at beginning of each seperate comment - Not good editing. I actually travelled as a young guy on the tram service from East Victoria Park Primary School (Now Shopping Centre) to the Como jetty baths to attend swimming lessons. Later on when I had a motor bike we dreaded the tramlines when it rained. They could be treacherous. For some unknown reason after 1958 some lines were left in place for many years. The trams to Subiaco Oval when the football finals were on packed to capacity- They could move heaps of people in one go, however the advent of the Holden car in big numbers and other makes meant that the car won the battle in Perth. The mooted trackless trams -No tracks or overhead gear used - to Scarborough Beach from the Joondalup rail line are in use in Europe. A great idea but they have problems. It appears that Scarborough Beach Road may not be wide enough at this time. There is a demo tram already here at the City Of Stirling premises being examined etc.
If you are referring to the captions on the video I didn't make those. Youthbe auto generated them. And yes I am very aware some things are wrong I do plan on redoing this video sometime in the future.
i agree! However i have been hearing that they are trying to bring trams back. they are planning to run them from Canning Bridge Station through the city and to one of the University's can't remember which one tho.

A lovely part of my home city i'm glad to know more about
Glad you enjoyed it

Excellent video. Brought back memories. I used to travel on the 22 to North Perth in the 1950's.
Good effort! Some great memories shown through film and photos with informative narration.
Thanks for the memories. 😊
Thanks. Brought back memories of my youth David Templeman
Bring back the trams!
Sadly they wont ever listen to us. i mean if they did bring back the trams i would love to go to the city. but of course they dont want to. and instead want to spend their money on buses.
@@Trainanatic ok.. introduce nice local line trams to the main railway stations to replace buses! They could be EVs even!
Great Idea. now just have to convince the government.
Unfortunately, it'll never happen. Too expensive by a long shot. Trackless tram possibly, but electric buses will be the go
Excellent. You are doing valuable work in putting these videos together.

Great video
Together, with all their mates they did a lot of drinking at the Subi Hotel. I reckon they had shares in it! 😊👍

Wow didn't know that there was trams in perth.. will there be trams again in perth....
don't think there will be trams in Perth ever again. we might get "Trackless" Trams (Buses) that is it.

the tram resturant at the front park in fremantle might be interesting to catch up on its history ....
I do plan on doing a video of walking roughly where the teams used to go.

We used to have trolleybuses as well
That is what my next video is about.
Gonna do a video on Perth's trolley buses?
Already Have! th-cam.com/video/Au0AeTIk1e0/w-d-xo.html
The commentary needs some improvement. Great story, I wonder why there were black screens all the way through the session.

They'll be back.
Hopefully
Perth should of followed Melbourne's lead !
i agree! However i have been hearing that they are trying to bring trams back. they are planning to run them from Canning Bridge Station through the city and to one of the University's can't remember which one tho.
Should HAVE (not of), Spastic 🤐
Trams can be very inefficient as seen in various Melbourne routes.
Fark Perth!!!
Ceep trams🚊
