it's episode 2 where Armin and eren where talking about what they should do. Eren wants to fight even tho he can't and Armin tells him how going outside the walls will kill and mentions his parents. Armin figured that was it most likely from them just disappearing and living with his grandfather.
I don't think Levi has germaphobia. I think its more of a rejection of his past life living in squalor, so much so that he overcompensates it. When he goes cold in this scene you are seeing the killer returning.
Kenny's theme is also titled 'K2' because the number 2 is pronounced "ni" in japanese. The correct pronunciation for K2 is therefore Kenny (K-ni), which is just another amazing attention to detail.

26:04 That could also be setting Mikasa apart in the sense she's the only one in that shot that's no stranger to homicide. Metaphorically, you could say it shows she has the high ground when it comes to resolve for dealing with human threats (a trait which exists since her awakening and remains until her last confrontation against Floch).
That ODM scene is hands down my favorite animated scene of any movie/tv show. My first time watching I was screaming so hard at the tv saying “LETS EFFIN GOOOOO”. I could watch a gif of it for an eternity.
With the female MP, there's also two other potential issues that might explain her hesitation. 1) It's one thing to shoot at someone who's cutting down your comrades one after another, but it's another to shoot someone in the face, who just had the chance to kill you, but couldn't get himself to do so. 2) The MPs are used to hunting down criminals, not fellow soldiers. And even if they are in different branches of the military, they are still comrades, fighting for the same overall goal of protecting mankind. Sure there might be some that have grown numb to it, like the torturers, but she seems pretty young, so she probably didn't have that particular baptism in fire yet. So I wouldn't be surprised if the woman had already shot other people without hesitation, but ended up choking up for a moment with Jean, because of him being a fellow soldier and having shown qualms about cutting her down just a moment ago. Or she could just have been a fresh recruit, who so far only was part of arrests, or where others shot the criminals, but hadn't yet shot anyone herself.
Akatsuki No Requiem is my favorite track in the entire show, the 2 second clip you played instantly elicits so many strong emotions for me. I knew it Armin's parents. Only recently found your channel after finally being able to watch spoilers for AoT after the finale. So glad I found it! Your analyses are intriguing and it’s great seeing just how talented the mangaka and original writers were.
That bar scene where Levi pulls out the gun is technically a Deus Ex Machina, since we don't get the explanation until after he uses it, but god damn I've always loved that moment.

The introduction of Kenny is the perfect bridge that was needed to take our cast from heroes that fight monsters to fighting soldiers in Liberio. The ODM gear used in Liberio is optimized for anti-human operations, showing the changing atmosphere. It also is the midpoint of Eren's progression from fighting monsters to monsters that are actually humans to humans acting like monsters to all of humanity.
god, that ED clip of historia reaching out to grab ymir's hand only for it to pass through and for her to fall into darkness always hits so hard on every rewatch. after all the shit that happened in this anime, that scene still makes me almost tear up
Requiem of the dawn is probably my favourite ending song, so I loved hearing that reference to it in the finale ending.... Thank you for this fortnightly dose of AoT details! I also loved the choice to use a very calm part of K2- while Levi is getting chased, since for him it was just a warmup haha. And then when that Kenny shadow appears beside him... just 🤌🤌🤌 Seeing Armin's suffering after his first kill never gets any less painful to watch...
Well, the eren falling on top of historia...if you want to be very very very "Oh how convinient" about it. When we see memory bs happening, it's skin on skin touch, historia touching erens back bare handed in the cave and then eren kissing her hand. In this fall, the fall in a way that convineantly, only their shirts touch, not their skin.
Levi vs Kenny was such a beautiful moment in this season and overall the entire series in my opinion and shows a human finally able to match Levi in strength with him struggling. I am planning on rewatching the anime and watching these overanalyzing videos makes me appreciate and enjoy the series better. Thank you for bringing us these videos! Looking forward to seeing you explain the rest of th season and series
I feel like there is also a slight parallel with Levi saying Armin killed so that none of his squad would die, and Eren eventually rumbling the world, killing on mass to save his friends and home, only in the sense that it's beginning the morality and justifications for when is it at all acceptable to take a life (never) with an example that most people would pretty clearly get behind and say that, especially with Armin not seeing the hesitation on that womans face, Armin was pretty justified in self defence killing and did it to immediately save a life. I do like how even this is questioned with the lady possibly not going to actually do it, so this anime clearly never provides any fully justified murder in this series, eren and mikasa had their humanity questioned for killing as children, and you have Levi's backstory, relationship with Kenny and orders from Erwin setting the backdrop for his killings of the interior police, on top of he himself openly stating that he doesn't consider what he did to be in any sense objectively right, just the choice he made with the information he had.
I wonder if eren used the founder to pull that girl with the gun into the paths, thus making her hesitate, so that Jean could survive and help the others stop the rumbling
Likely not, he's shown to pull either the former Attack Titan user in the past (including themselves), or other Eldians within the present time when he has the power of founder titan.
Was Kenny really just seeking power? I always thought he was after some kind of tranquility. Like, the King desired peace within the walls, and Kenny desired peace within himself. The power was the vehicle to get there, but it wasn't the end-point. Idk if I'm making any sense 🤷♂️
Yeah, that's exactly why I didn't get into all of that in these episodes just yet 😅 But tl;dr - I think it's exactly what you said. He desperately wants the founding titan because he hopes that with that level of power he'd be able to see the world like Uri did (like you put it, tranquility). More on that soon™
31:34 I have never thought about that before, I appreciate this idea SO much more now, thank you! I wondered if there was any reason why Historia's husband was never explored at all, but using that to contrast how he's a nobody compared to the famous King Fritz was clever
That whole ODM segment of Levi trying to get away from Kenny and his goons is hands down my favorite piece of anime. My guy almost achieved flight during that part
I truly believed Mappa "milked" the attack on titan finale just in naming scheme. "Guys, the final season is coming out!" "Guys, the final season.. Part 2 is coming out!" "Guys, I don't know when attack on titan is gonna end, we got part 3..." I definitely still envision it as milking the hype of the series coming to an end. They just messed up bigtime there, but its a lot more understandable if it was misunderstood timing of good animation.
This is one of the first moments, if not the first, where a character attacks and kills another human with ODM gear. I think this is a pivotal moment and it changes the energy of the story, its nuanced implications making you think about the complex moral dynamics of AOT's world. It's no longer simply a united humanity against a common enemy, as the equipment and weapons they use to fight the titans, weapons which are hailed as honorable tools to aid humanity in its survival, are used to murder another human being.
29:40 Explanation: A royal bloodline would mean that 2 people have a high status before procreating. If Sina, Maria or Rose had sons and those would have illegitimate children, both them and their own line would not be of Royalty.
I remember first watching this episode and realizing that the couple who tried to fly over the walls were Armin's parents. At this point (I think, but it might be future memories talking) we've seen a flashback of Armin telling Eren that his parents are going to try to journey outside the walls. I don't remember if he said how, but that's why he has the book about the outside world. Then, when they show the flashback of the MPs stopping said couple from flying, we see that they bear some resemblance to Armin, and it seemed pretty clear to me. I guess it wasn't ever explicitly stated, but it was strongly and (seemingly) deliberately implied.
Oh I got so excited seeing this upload. I cannot stress enough how much I adore your videos and how much I'm looking forward to season 3 in particular. Great job as always! Also, there's a lot that was changed particularly in early s3 compared to the manga- so for anyone seeing this I highly recommend checking it out. One of the things I would like to mention just because it hurts my soul is, that, in the manga, Kenny briefly talks to Reeves before killing him, and he actually does ask about Levi. And then he says "I taught Levi a lot. That midget is my pride and joy." (ch.56 btw) Which - Jesus, Kenny. Definitely not something you expect to hear from this ruthless serial killer, but it adds another rather heart wrenching detail to the relationship between the two. Especially when also taking into account what Isayama once said in an interview about Levi and Kenny but......I will keep that rant for when we get further into the season, if Koroto doesn't already do it for me keke.
Oh you are so good Waiting for your new videos as if it was an original show Just thank you (Also I m upgrading my English just by watching your work) (Also also i think it’s only your videos that I watch without raising the speed because I don’t want it to end as long as possible)
Levi! still a runt or have you grown some? - Kenny Ackerman what an entrance. I was initially reluctant about about human enemies until my second watch through. I just remember Armin's first kill.
31:22 "Mirroring the story of a slave and a royal" A royal bastard, literally. There's quite the difference between being royalty and being a bastard born of royalty, especially in fiction.
Random biology fact: The have confirmed that there is a genetic Adam and a genetic Eve. They lived 200K years apart so it's not like the biblical concept of Adam and Eve, but everyone has a common male-line-only ancestor and a common female-line-only ancestor
I fully agree with the sentiment of learning something new with every watch of AoT And I've learned new things every time... eg erwin was showed in the episode 1... the person who called out the scouts to a titan in the beginning
I don't think they were milking attack on Titan, but do you think Once they realized how long they've delayed already they may have delayed a bit more on purpose to make sureThey finished it 13 years after attack on Titan debuted?
Love these shows and insights! Thanks! I got something. So the birds represent freedom, it is known. I'm seeing the flowers represent people. Like the 2 flowers on a stream for Ymir and Historia, Eren Mikasa etc. So in the tradition of AOT episode endings spoiling the story--then Historia, represented by Ymir, was showing us the founding titan stomping out "white flowers" with blood. +Spoiler for season 4 episode endings. Eren walking through all colors of flowers and then vanishing represented the rumbling and all peoples getting it. Thoughts, Koroto?
35:11 How fitting yet ironic would it be if the name of Historia’s daughter was Ymir? Both to honour the girl she loved who was devoted to her & for the chance of this Ymir having a happy life.
28:40 I mean we're literally thought this... respecting the person "higher" than you... whether they be older, in charge, more experienced, have a certain rolez etc etc.... But that being respectful can go too far... to being silent, overly obedient, etc
Didnt Armin say to Eren/Mikasa (i forgot which one or it was both) that his parents are going to explore the outside of the walls? Referring to the anime and it was early on.
The royal family is composed of direct descedants of ymir. Eldians are descedants of all people that at some point ate one of them and gained the power of the titans.
The scene where Armin was puking his guts out. I don't think that had to do with the person he killed. I believe that was a slight flashback to when they rescued him and Jean, (who were believed to be Eren and Historia) and Armin was being molested by the creep. I think thats why he was puking because of them being abused in that way, which when he asks Mikasa if that's what she went through, he was asking if she had been molested when she was abducted, but apologizes because he knows if it was this bad for him, who wasn't truly a girl, he couldn't even imagine how bad it must have been for her. 16:34
@22:00 good sir I'd love to talk to you about this very topic. I'm an AI engineer and a huge fan of anime since the early 00s. I'm actually surprised you said that but I totally agree. The whole reason I got into AI engineering is because of my deep love for Ghost in the Shell and wanting to bring those technologies to life.
3:10 I think that there was no future sighting because they were with clothes on, their skin never touch, all the moments eren is able to see the future there is skin touching
Thanks for pointing out all the comparisons between Historia & Ymir. It really helped me to better understand why... Mikasa was the key to everything 🙃 Sorry, I love your over analyzing series and aot in general, but it still really frustrates me that the ending makes little to no sense 😅
@@Koroto What did Eren actually accomplish? Did he have any choice in his actions? If he did, was it really necessary to massacre 80% of the world's population just to make his friends look good?? Why did Grisha still give Eren the Attack titan after begging Zeke to stop him? The anime added a line saying Eren did try to create different outcomes but couldn't. (The scene with him saving Ramzi, kinda shows this) But he still went back in the past to make sure his mother was eaten & to manipulate Grisha so he very much Can (or at least could) change things And even if he was a complete slave to the original timeline, unless he was being controlled by Ymir or the hallucigenia, he is still the one who originally chose to kill 80% of the world's population. And it's even worse than that, he also destroyed most of the world's ecosystem, which would effectively kill not only nearly every human on earth, eventually, but also almost every species of floral, fauna & insect on the entire planet! It would destroy/disrupt all the jet streams, ocean currents, wind currents, everything. There's really no coming back from that. In reality the rumbling should have doomed the vast majority of life on the planet for hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of years And he seemingly had no idea how things would play out after he was killed. Seems pretty risky for Mr. Tatakae, especially after the lesson he learned from Levi's squad. How did he know (some of) his friends would succeed & be safe afterwards? I'm glad he did not complete the rumbling, I was just expecting his actions to make more sense. Expecting a better reason for what he did Moving on to Mikasa, how was Eren able to wipe her mind? How/why was she the key? Where was the setup for that? I'm glad that Mikasa was the one to kill Eren & happy that she was able to move on. I was hoping that was going to happen. But why was that the thing to prompt Ymir to undo the titan curse & to give up her hatred/thirst for revenge? Was it because she finally saw true love? Or was it Mikasa's ability to let go, despite her love?(Guess she missed season 2 with Historia & Her name sake, lol) Was it specifically because it was a toxic relationship? Had Ymir never seen someone overcome that before? Was she not watching other Eldians? If that's the case, cool, but her connection to Mikasa just seemed to come out of nowhere. Maybe if Ymir's back story was flushed out more, we could find some definitive answers/reasons, but unfortunately we're just left with headcanon & speculation Ntm, we never got the reasoning behind Ymir's twisted love for/attachment to King Fritz. Like, why was it so strong?? Speaking of Ymir, why did she let Armin & Zeke rally the other beast titans in the paths? Why didn't she just kill all of Eren's friends immediately or at least deactivate their Titan powers? Or is she just a slave to Eren? I thought he set her free? Or was Ymir working with Eren since he set her free? Making the whole final battle nothing but a stage play How come killing Zeke stopped the rumbling but the hallucigenia leaving Eren doesn't affect his ability to transform into a colossal Titan? What happened to the hallucigenia? What even was it? Was it sentient or just acting on instinct? I also have some questions about what Isayama was going for thematically, but I think this is enough for one post, lol The finale was gorgeous, thrilling, entertaining & even touching at times. And it marginally improved on the manga. But, still, if you stop to think about things, it just makes little to no sense. Side note- the anime changed it so that the world didn't destroy Paradis until much later, so that's a little better, I guess. But Eren (seemingly) had no guarantee that they would get that or that his friends would live to see it
When I watched AoT for the first time a couple weeks ago, I immediately recognised Kenny's voice actor as Date-san / Nakaoka from the RGG(Yakuza) games. His voice is so cool Also, irrelevant, but Hange's VA (Romi Park) also plays a character in the Yakuza franchise and the final cutscene of Like a Dragon - Ishin! is both of them conversing
“Who do you think the real enemy is…?”

I’m so excited to see you uploaded 😁
This episode had one of the best fights in all of Attack on Titan.
Man you deserve more subs! These retrospective videos are absolutely amazing
Yeah, that's exactly why I didn't get into all of that in these episodes just yet 😅
But tl;dr - I think it's exactly what you said.
You always drop right on time and it’s much appreciated!
Damn.. that "right or wrong... Or neither" section real philosophical real fast, awesome stuff dude! Great vid per usual
That whole ODM segment of Levi trying to get away from Kenny and his goons is hands down my favorite piece of anime. My guy almost achieved flight during that part
Never stop doing this. I'm just so excited to see your analysis on the ending.
I most certainly won't, we're going right up until the end! 😤😤
I truly believed Mappa "milked" the attack on titan finale just in naming scheme. "Guys, the final season is coming out!"
"Guys, the final season.. Part 2 is coming out!"
"Guys, I don't know when attack on titan is gonna end, we got part 3..."
I definitely still envision it as milking the hype of the series coming to an end.
I am so happy with this video and ao excited for the next one. I would love to know your reading of Erwin as a character as we move forward.
29:40 Explanation:
A royal bloodline would mean that 2 people have a high status before procreating.
Oh you are so good
Waiting for your new videos as if it was an original show
Just thank you
(Also I m upgrading my English just by watching your work)
(Also also i think it’s only your videos that I watch without raising the speed because I don’t want it to end as long as possible)
I also wondered and realized that ODM gears anchors can be aimed 180° during the Levi- Kenny chase.
Finallyyyyyy!!! So happy you posted a new one!
early season 3 aot is seriously some the best tv ever. It’s just bam bam bam bam stuff all the time
Wasn't this also the first time we got Kenny's last name and confirmed he was an Ackerman?
Levi! still a runt or have you grown some? - Kenny Ackerman what an entrance.
I was initially reluctant about about human enemies until my second watch through.
I just remember Armin's first kill.
31:22 "Mirroring the story of a slave and a royal"
A royal bastard, literally. There's quite the difference between being royalty and being a bastard born of royalty, especially in fiction.
with the eren and hystoria contact in this episode, it is important to point out that there is no skin to skin contact between the two
Random biology fact: The have confirmed that there is a genetic Adam and a genetic Eve. They lived 200K years apart so it's not like the biblical concept of Adam and Eve, but everyone has a common male-line-only ancestor and a common female-line-only ancestor
I fully agree with the sentiment of learning something new with every watch of AoT
And I've learned new things every time... eg erwin was showed in the episode 1... the person who called out the scouts to a titan in the beginning
I don't think they were milking attack on Titan, but do you think Once they realized how long they've delayed already they may have delayed a bit more on purpose to make sureThey finished it 13 years after attack on Titan debuted?
I cant believe i havent commented this on this series yet, but this is the Best Place to find the Best AoT memes!!
"He was trained to fight *four* people"
I remember saying "damn I'm 6 cm taller than Levi"
Can’t wait for the episode 49 overanalysis ik that shits gonna be a banger especially with the special ed
I be having favorite channels in spurts & rn you are my favorite channel!
Ohhhhhh shit I was caught up last night on this series… what an amazing first thing to see when I open TH-cam
LETS GOOOO BABE NEW KOROTOS DROPPED
35:11 How fitting yet ironic would it be if the name of Historia’s daughter was Ymir?
Both to honour the girl she loved who was devoted to her & for the chance of this Ymir having a happy life.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh let's gooooooooooooo been waiting for this one!!
Favorite TH-cam channel by far!
35:31 you sneaky bastard
i love it when i go on youtube and i see koroto posted a new aot vid 💪
The royal family is composed of direct descedants of ymir. Eldians are descedants of all people that at some point ate one of them and gained the power of the titans.
Man this series is great but I hate that picture of the guy holding the cup with his foot with a burning passion
That's why scence are not drawn by a single person. Precisely because it would take way too long.
I think the royal bloodline was passed down through the founding titan. So the daughter that received it continued it (if that sorta makes sense)
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS AHHHHH
The music does matter to me, but a lot of the time, I don't consciously notice it or even remember it.
Requiem, requiem... very similar to the ending scene in the final episode
3:10 I think that there was no future sighting because they were with clothes on, their skin never touch, all the moments eren is able to see the future there is skin touching
I laughed ao hard when Levi shot at Kenny with that rifle from behind a counter.
Thanks for pointing out all the comparisons between Historia & Ymir. It really helped me to better understand why... Mikasa was the key to everything 🙃
Sorry, I love your over analyzing series and aot in general, but it still really frustrates me that the ending makes little to no sense 😅
The ending makes perfect sense. That's why I called it like 3 years ago. 🗿
(The scene with him saving Ramzi, kinda shows this) But he still went back in the past to make sure his mother was eaten & to manipulate Grisha so he very much Can (or at least could) change things
And even if he was a complete slave to the original timeline, unless he was being controlled by Ymir or the hallucigenia, he is still the one who originally chose to kill 80% of the world's population. In reality the rumbling should have doomed the vast majority of life on the planet for hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of years
And he seemingly had no idea how things would play out after he was killed. Seems pretty risky for Mr. Tatakae, especially after the lesson he learned from Levi's squad. How did he know (some of) his friends would succeed & be safe afterwards? I'm glad he did not complete the rumbling, I was just expecting his actions to make more sense. Expecting a better reason for what he did
Moving on to Mikasa, how was Eren able to wipe her mind?
Maybe if Ymir's back story was flushed out more, we could find some definitive answers/reasons, but unfortunately we're just left with headcanon & speculation
Ntm, we never got the reasoning behind Ymir's twisted love for/attachment to King Fritz.
Making the whole final battle nothing but a stage play
How come killing Zeke stopped the rumbling but the hallucigenia leaving Eren doesn't affect his ability to transform into a colossal Titan? What happened to the hallucigenia? What even was it? Was it sentient or just acting on instinct?
I also have some questions about what Isayama was going for thematically, but I think this is enough for one post, lol
The finale was gorgeous, thrilling, entertaining & even touching at times. And it marginally improved on the manga. But, still, if you stop to think about things, it just makes little to no sense.
Side note- the anime changed it so that the world didn't destroy Paradis until much later, so that's a little better, I guess. But Eren (seemingly) had no guarantee that they would get that or that his friends would live to see it
Actually never been this early. Looking forward to watching right now!
You thought Kenny made Levi mad? Wait until Levi meets Zeke.
cant wait for this guy to cover berserk
15:21 bro turned into a language arts teacher for that one
🎩
Thank you!
MY short king.
When I watched AoT for the first time a couple weeks ago, I immediately recognised Kenny's voice actor as Date-san / Nakaoka from the RGG(Yakuza) games. His voice is so cool
Also, irrelevant, but Hange's VA (Romi Park) also plays a character in the Yakuza franchise and the final cutscene of Like a Dragon - Ishin! is both of them conversing
