When Annie was being attacked in the forest of giant trees by pure titan, Erwin mentions there's a lot of steam, and that provides a cover for Annie to escape. That could be Annie's use of the colossal titan power.
Fun fact In the manga the bottle of spinal fluid actually said “colossus titan” rod being the idiot he is was tryna turn Historia into a wall titan sized founding titan
I need to get better about checking the manga whenever these things pop up 😂 But yeah, guess that just solidifies the whole spinal fluid effect theory.
I have a theory on that. Maybe it's because they had to take the spinal fluid out of a wall titan? Think about it, they probably get the Titan spinal fluid out of the current user when someone is about to inherit the Titan, so when a new founder is about to be made, they transform and have someone take out their Titan spinal fluid, and give it to the inheritor. But what happened? Grisha killed Frieda, and took away the Titan spinal fluid to use it on Eren. So now Ross had no Titan spinal fluid to use on Historia. And where is the only place he can get it from safely? By taking it out of one of the wall titans. It might be from the crack Annie made, or they might have secretly made a small hole at the nape of a colossal Titan around one of the walls to get it from.
@@katamas832 That or the first king of the walls just brought loads of spinal fluid with them ( if they ran out they could just take more from the founder )
Annie pretty explictly states that Marley made her eat all kinds of stuff to see what the Female Titan could adapt, when she‘s talking to Falco and Gabi on the Azumabito ship. Iirc she even says that they performed similar experiments on the other Marleyan shifters. So an Armored Colossal might very well have been something Marley had in mind, master war criminals that they were - it just didn‘t work out for some reason or another.
@@ErenKruger-qx3dt I mean....Burrito literally gets cut from the colossal after Armin exhausts his steam capacity.... his steam power isn't fool-proof. Why WOULDN'T you want that extra layer of protection?
From what I've seen, only the beast and founder titan had multiple titan powers. Yes I know the jaw titan took in the beast, and not the other way but still. Beast feels more of a commander style and the the founder is the well, founder. I wonder if those are the only two that can mix powers?
@@SA80TAGE Because it would make the colossal even more slow to the point of having no movement. The weight aswell. Even if he only activated it sparingly it would be a huge energy drain and maybe the heat from the colossal would just make it weak anyways
Fun fact: In the manga, not long before his death, Dino Reeves is the one to tell Historia to "punch Levi and then tell him to hit back if he dares, for she's the mighty queen", which I think was way better than what they did in the anime. Plus, the actual punch scene is weak in the anime.
It was weak in the manga as well, really. Considering she's military trained, Historia should've been able to hit harder, though I still doubt it'd hurt Levi.
idk, i didnt mind a more light hearted moment like that after all the shit that happened in the first half of season 3. plus i always interpreted it as mikasa suggesting it as revenge for levi beating up eren in season 1 lol
I always assumed that the reason Rod can lick the titan fluid and transform immediately is because Kenny cut the inside of his his mouth right before he freed Eren and the titan fluid got into his blood stream via open cuts.
Zeke had a limited form of hardening, and you could argue that the face mask of the jaws was kinda the same, considering Ymir didn't had it. I like to think that Marley experimented and gived what they could to the other shifters. Maybe the Colossal used too much energy just maintaining its form and heat expulsion, so hardening would be too much for him
Except Falco also had the hardened jaw, without any special serum. I think Ymir's lack of a hardened jaw probably comes from her not having trained like the Marleyan warriors. Also I have a bit of a theory that an interpersonal connection between the eaten shifter and the new shifter makes the new shifter's titan more powerful. That would add some extra texture to why titan shifters tend to be passed down between family members, and would fit with the theme of the founder Ymir seeking connection. So maybe because Falco and Porco were buddies beforehand, it helped power up Falco, but since Ymir didn't have any connection to Marcel then she didn't get as powered up. Or maybe because Ymir was in titan form for 60 years, her sense of identity was so tied to that form, so when in shifter form it stayed very close to that. Who knows. I think your Zeke point is pretty good, though.
@@friedkeenanI do think that the explanation for Ymir seems to be that she was in her pure Titan form for so long so that was pretty much the same form she remained in. Also that and that the Jaw Titan hadn’t been properly designed when she first appeared. Similar to how the cart titans appearance changed e.g. the shifter originally being meant to be male
If you read the Manga, Levi actually had to torture Historia in order for her to become the Queen. Historia punching Levi had more impact, simply because he probably kicked the shit out of her, in the same way he kicked Eren.
Where? Only thing that I remember was that he pick her up by her shirt and threatened her. I don't recall anything more and for sure anything that I would consider torture (especially because we saw how levi do those things)
Wasn't expecting you to go off the hook at the end to talk about determinism and all that free will shit in philosophy, I absoutely love it, there's so much in AOT that could be brought up in a philosophy teacher's classroom when explaining certai topics, you should do that more often!
Ohh don't worry, we have more than a couple of those coming up very very soon. I thought Historia's choice of duty was a nice jumping off point for all of those conversations as that lack of freedom becomes more and more explicit (of course climaxing with Eren). 👍
@@Korotoin general there are alot of underlying philosphical themes and i think that ultimately AOT is more on the deterministic side of things and this is clearly represented through eren. no matter how hard he tries he cannot change the future because everything that has come before him has shaped him and the world along with the circumstances in which he must act. its sort of a reverse look on free will in a way. if you had the ability to see the future, would it actually change anything at all? IMO, isiyama is proposing that it doesnt actually change anything because we are not the master of our own fate. Kennys last word are gold too and also very much in the court of shoppenhauer, albert camus etc. we have to spend our lives drunk on something because if we dont, we face the sobering realisation that ultimately we are a footnote in the lifespan of the universe and nothing we do actually matters. kenny has clearly read camus, because as he poignently proclaims: there is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is suicide.
I think the reason Rod's titan is so weird has less to do with any logical explanation, and more to do with something he said. He was asked at one point why he doesn't just become the founder himself, and he replied "I must not become a titan." but didn't elaborate further. I think there is something that works in their line, similar to the vow, where certain members of the family are not able to become proper titans for whatever reason, or their transformation is a lot more extreme if it ever happens, therefore they're never chosen to inherit the founder. It also explains why only certain people from each generation get picked, rather than just going trough everyone in order (which is something that everyone ignores for some reason, when talking about this).
only 1 problem with this line of thinking..... you can't know what the transformation is going to be like before it has happened. Reiss has never transformed before, he didn't eat a shifter to become human again before all of this.... so how would he or anyone else know that the transformation would be "more extreme"? His line, to me at least, just further pushes the trope of the cowardly noble rich guy that doesn't want to do the dirty dangerous stuff himself.
@@SA80TAGE That's not true tho, the soldiers from Marley could change people into whatever titans they wanted, and Marley as a whole barely knew anything about titans, so I'd assume the family of the person who held the founding titan for generations would know more than Marley.
He’d never transformed and had no idea what it would be like. Except the watching the process and being like no for me. It is complicated and fun to think about.
i’ve been using this playlist as my white noise while i sleep for a few months. i kid you not i fall asleep and wake up to attack on titan retrospectives. and i’d have it no other way
I’ll be honest, I was not having a good week. But I didn’t realize you were gonna have an AOT video today, so thank you. My week is better now. Take care, be safe, and keep up your great work
19:29 Hi Korotos 🙋🏾♀ it's "Vola Girl" again (actually, I just played oboe for long enough to know what a viola sounds like out of context, but whatever 😅). I continue to unironically LOVE the way you describe music!! I never thought of describing that sound as a "breathing in," but you nailed it! I think it's just a recording of some strings played backwards, but until I know for sure, I'm fine with just letting the magic be magical 💕
I think the armor vial is spinal fluid from an old War Hammer Titan that gifted it to the royal family before closing the gates of Paradis. The hardening abilities that Eren gets from that vial are more reminiscent of the WH than the Armored.
Eren is a slave of freedom Historia is a slave of duty Mikasa is a slave of love Erwin is a slave of ambition/ knowledge Etc. I thought about and i thought it sounded cool lol
10:18 I know I am extremely late on this comment but looking at the idea of mixing the spinal fluids of different titans, they may not even be doing this on purpose as with how the abnormals only show up some of the time, I think that the mixing comes from them using the same needles on groups of people at a time, they dont clean the needles between each so there would be a small amount of contamination when the next different vial was used and the fluids mix in the syringe. They dont observe what the titans do after they run off so have no idea this cross contamination has the effect of combining titan powers until falco and his hybrid titan.
25:45 this song actually sounds to me like the song that plays when Grisha reveals the Attack Titan's power in the Eren and Zeke memory delve scene as well, which yknow... Kinda big too
@@yoridetth856 While Kenny was talking to Historia before she was going to inject herself Rod's tongue gets cut by Kenny's knife. So here, the titan spinal fluid does enter Rod's bloodstream, instead of taken orally as most assumed.
Honestly, I was fine just taking the whole image of him transforming as an artistic depiction that didn't necessarily need to be accurate... But that little detail you mentioned escaped me and now I see how it makes total sense. This story just takes into account so many tiny details that's scary, hahaha. Great catch!!!
Uhhh, I don't think being injected right into the bloodstream is the same as touching it with your bleeding tongue. Pouring disinfectant on an open wound is very good, injecting it into your bloodstream wouldn't end well lmao 😂😂 But if we're talking purely titan magic shenanigans, then yeah, I guess that would be another conduit for the transformation.
So two things I remember from the show: for Annie, I remember she mentioned in the second to last episode that she was made to drink different substances when she got her titan. That conversation happened when she was talking to the azumabito lady on the ship. And the for the colossal with armored abilities, Eren’s colossal seemed to have hardening on his hands on the final episode.
To your end question: I hope they make a live action with a massive budget. No rushing the visuals, no CHANGING the story (im looking at you AoT movie), and just giving another viewing option...so many people I tell should watch AoT complain as it's a "cartoon" in their eyes. I think a live action shot for shot series would do amazing if they take the time to do it right.
After watching the last episode, Eren told us that he was the one sending Dina straight to their house, because Berthold should have not died yet. Also we see that most abnormals behave much faster like having a goal that they want to reach. Also also we see in season in the end of season 2 when Eren commanded Titans they immediately stopped being normal and all behaved just like abnormals much faster, because they now have a goal. That was also the case for Zeke commanding his Titans (in Season 2, 3 and 4). Especially in Season 2 we saw all Titans just moving around like no other Titan and then they just turn and run into the Scouts. With this observations I made up the theory that all abnorals are commanded (maybe by Eren), because all of them have an important part in the story to end like this, so they behave not normal. Then I looked back to at least some but not all of the (seemenly not commanded) Titans with abnormal behavior and saw that all of them at least seems to have a relevant porpuse for the story. First we have the abnormal Titan that killed Levy friends (idk their names) that got then destroyed by Levy. That one gets Levy to become loyal to the scouts and trusting Erwin. Then we can take a look at the speaking Titan from ilse's notebook. That one catches Hange's curiosity and more than less leads to the scouts catching Titans in Trost. Then we have the abnormals in Trost that killed Erens squat. I mean they are pretty obvious. Yeah they were relevant for "humanity" to discover Eren's Titanpower. And you might even argue that he has to be found by Mikasa or he would have been killed by ignorance immediately. (also by cutting of Erens limps, they discovered that Titanshifters not just exist but also can heal like almost everything) We also have the Abnormal Titan in Trost that runs straight at the civilians that was killed by Mikasa. You can say on the one hand say that this Titan kill by Mikasa motivated the little girl (im sorry but i dont know her name) to go to the millitary AND you'd might argue that she is relevant for season 4. On the other hand Mikasa was able to see the merchant blocking the way for evacuation, because of the Titan kill. And just Mikasa has the balls to get him to make the way free for the people. And yeah it was important for the evacuation to be faster. And then Rod. Yeah he was relevant to get killed by Historia so the people of the walls would accept her as their queen. I dont know what exactly whats exactly the point of the Titan crawling on all fours trying to catch Sasha. Or the otherones wiping out Scout soldiers. You can argue that they were just there to nerve the scouts because otherwise they would be to strong? So yeah I know. The theorie has its flaws because we simply just not have enough information about everything inuniverse, so we cant really proof or disproof it. Edit: Oh yeah I forgot about Ymir. She was relevant because she ate Marcel or what ever he was called. And with Marcel the Marley squat might really just have f**d Paradis.
I really hope that this is it for AOT. I love this series with my soul, it is my favorite story hands down. Having this one show just end completed with no milking will fill me with peace.
Koroto, I'm begging you to read the recently published "Determined: A Science of Life without Free will" by Sapolsky. It ties perfectly with everything you have said about lack of free will in the ending bit of the video, and a much recommended reading in general!
About that free will part: I actually had a phase not long ago when this line of thinking was making me very unhappy. Not because it was false, but because I wanted to believe it to be false despite having no arguments in my mind against it. It made it difficult for me to judge people, to judge myself, to judge any action, because nobody really had a say anyway, right? It got to the point where I had a little bit of a mental breakdown and I actually wrote a message to my philosophy professor from my University, explaining my situation, arguments etc. He invited me to talk about this in person, so in some time, we met. He provided a very interesting counterargument to humans having no free will: emergent qualities of complex systems. He explained that the more complex a system gets, the more qualities it gains which are impossible to predict from analyzing the system's parts and individual interactions between them. The impossibility, crucially, does NOT stem from a lack of data or computational power: even if we understood everything about the elementary parts of the system and their individual properties, and had infinite computational power to simulate their interactions, we could not predict the emergent properties of the resultant system. This was a very weird idea to me because it's completely counterintuitive, but he cited some books and he is a very knowledgeable guy, so I trust his expertise on this. Now, the reason this matters in the discussion about free will is the issue of causality. There can exist two things: true randomness or causal effect, with no inbetween. Both are outside of our control. This law, however, does NOT neccessarily apply to the inner workings of human brains. They are incredibly complex systems which we don't nearly understand yet. We don't understand where conscious experience comes from, where subjective experiences of different states, or sensual experiences come from. Our brains, the complex system they are, COULD have an emergent quality which allows a decisional instance to be inserted somewhere along the chain of effects. This is counterintuitive, but many other things are as well. Laws we considered fundamental have been proven wrong many times before, and this may be no exception. This fact introduced enough uncertainty in my mind about the lack of free will that I was able to put that idea behind me and live normally again. I hope you read this long comment and it allows you to get a new perspective as well!
I love all your videos keep up all the amazing work. You really make my day with these uploads. I’m at work rn but I don’t care I’m still going to watch.
7:46 is the perfect picture to explain your level of obsession towards aot. Appreciate it tho, learning a lot more complex things about this masterpiece than I did alone, nice job.
I think it’s pretty heavily implied that Marley did experiment with mixing Titan powers. With what Annie said and the fact that most of them had hardening abilities. The hardened masks on their jaw titans and the lack of one on Ymir means they probably gave them supplemental injections of other titans to weaponize them even more. Marley had access to armored spinal fluid due to them having the armor in their possession. They could take spinal fluid from their shifters and give part of that power to each of them. The reason that the colossal didn’t have hardening is because it wouldn’t work with the colossal powers since it’s ability is to use its flesh as a weapon, hardening it’s flesh would weaken or even make using that power impossible. The cart Titan looks similar to the jaw titans and has the ability to emit steam as well so it’s probably mostly cart endurance with jaw agility and colossal steam emissions.
I’ve been watching these episodes and while I noticed the accent I would have never thought English wasn’t your first language. You’re doing better than probably most native speakers 😂
28:30 "If so much of a person's life is effectively RNG generated, before they can even speak a single word. Can you really say any of your decisions are truly your own?" So fucking deep bro
3:00 my head canon is that the size of the pure titan is inversely proportion to the amount of spinal fluid. Meaning that if you inject enough it is human size, but a less than a drop = big AF titan. And it makes sense through the lense of titans primary goal being to return to being human, more titan fluid making them closer to human.
Or the fact that it contained spinal fluid of a colossal titan (seen in the Manga) Given that he consumed it incorrectly, had royal blood, had a broken back, and some got in his blood stream through the cut on his tongue. Yeeeah recipe for disaster.
im in the middle of a rewatch of AoT and just rewatched this arc, rod reiss's titan was fucking wack and im glad you made this video. also the moment where he slurps up the titan juice and says, "wait for me" to his family and he kind of gurgles honestly had me dying laughing. the VA did a great job on that part
It wasn't shown in the anime, but in the manga, the serum Rod ingested was labeled strongest titan, so where or not his transformation was done incorrectly, it seemed it was intended for Historia to be that large.
Yeah I think so too. He was clearly desperate and wanted a strong weapon. I wonder tho, if she was injected properly, would she turn THAT big ? Destroying the chapel, and probably Eren along with it. Or would correct injection turn her BIG but not huge. The size we see is probably a mix between the collosal serum, royal blood, the fact that some of it got into his stomach, and some into his blood (he had a cut on his tongue)
You nailed the causal deterministic explanation of free will here. Love how you applied it to this episode and AOT in general. It aligns with the overarching concept of freedom and choices, and is only magnified by Eren’s attack titan abilities. Great stuff K!
Maybe you’ll get to this topic in latter seasons, but the origin and purpose of the pure titans always got me thinking a lot. Maybe the three Sisters (Maria, Rose, Sina) created them as a way to facilitate the inheritance process (so their children wouldn’t have to feel or remember eating them), but got repurposed as a weapon later by the Fritz.
21:40 My guess would be since they already have the Armor and Annie who can both do it, you don't need to add another. It would be like adding an M4 mount to your tank.
I’ve been watching all three videos this week. Just realized you’re from Latvia. You should be proud of how good your English is. I thought you were from the us
I've only very recently begun dipping into Dune, but yeah... there are some... interesting parallels 😂 When I get my loremaster levels up to snuff, maybe I'll make some content on it! 👍
I’ve could’ve sworn there was something say that when not injected into the body it results in abnormalities it’s why the Ragako titans were so weird looking and I figured due to Rod being a royal his titan was exceptionally abnormal.
In the first final chapters special Annie mentions that they made her shallow a lot of stuff because of her titan speciality, I think other titans can in fact use things like hardening but the female titan is just better than the others at mimicking abilities, the colossal might be the complete opposite and that’s why we didn’t saw Bert or armin using hardening although Eren used it in the last episode so I guess it depends on the ability of the user or it could just be an anime original scene, I don’t remember if Eren used hardening as a colossal titan in the manga
I like to believe that when they are in that cave future eren used the founding powers when touching zeke and was whispering in his ear “their all gonna die” which convinced him to save them
small note on the comment from mikasa to historia: that said comment, where mikasa says to punch levi when historia becomes queen may seem a bit odd when only watching the anime. i think in the manga there was a scene before that, when historia was told by levi to become queen, she was forced to by levi. in the anime they changed that to historia just changing her mind on her own
Personally one theory I had for why some titans may be abnormal is due to them being former military or highly trained. Since all the soldiers turned titans with zeke's scream were highly agile. I believe zeke can't necessarily impact that, but its due to the soldiers being quite skilled themselves
I particularly like the theory that Connie's mom is the way she is because she was pregnant when she was transformed, and the big-head bug-eye titan that helps kill Mike was the unborn child. We see Connie's dad slowly eating Kaya before Sasha saves her, and we see the 2 small child-like titans that were seemingly playfighting, ripping an ear off of the other and slapping its face. It seems perfectly reasonable we'd see Connie's whole family; Mother, Father, 2 Younger Siblings and the Unborn. It would also explain why that one bug-eyed titan is seemingly the only one of Zeke's titans that isnt compelled to follow his commands perfectly, possibly because it wasnt born yet and didnt understand language as a human yet. This theory also backs up the hesitation the military has to turn Historia in the final season. If they even suspect that turning her while pregnant could do that to her and the child, they wouldnt risk turning them both since they'd have to kill one even if they fed Zeke to the other. In the Manga Sergeant Gross says that he is an "abnormal" person when explaining to Grisha why he is a psychopath that has no remorse for killing literal children. I think the mental and physical health of the people that are turned has an effect on the titan forms too. Mental Health issues would cause abnormal behavior that makes their pure titans act erratic and dangerously, where as physical health issues might cause their titans to be deformed in a way that makes them unable to walk upright like Rod and that sad thing the Scouts pass on the way to the sea. Also I think Rod turns right away because Kenny had cut his tongue when he had the knife in Rod's mouth. It is more deliberately shown in the Manga compared to the Anime, but it makes sense if licking the serum instantly caused a transformation. Although we also know the injections dont turn people instantly, they turn after a handful of seconds. I love the theory of mixing types of titan serum to get more specific shapes and sizes of titans, although It may just be that injections from different members of the nine cause the pure titans it creates to form at a similar size. Cart and Jaw making the 2-5m versions, Female making 7-10m, Armor, Attack, Warhammer making 13-15m. I think in the Manga the writing on the vial that Rod gives to Historia says "powerful titan" or something like that on it. So it probably is just that it was serum extracted from the Colossal, which is probably quite rarely harvested. Marley wouldn't risk creating pure titans that big as it would risk breaking the Walls and releasing the Wall Titans, although maybe thats how the Wall Titans were made, or what is effectively the same physical procedure except done at 1mil x speed by the Founder. The Beast making all types of titans with the gas and wine is probably an outlier, or it might be because the Beast is shown to not have a standard size that carries over between generations of shifter. It's size seems based on the type of beast it styles itself on each time. Perhaps thats why Zeke's titans are all shapes and sizes as well. I assume Frieda was turned using Female titan Serum just based on her appearance being as uncanny as it is. Another theory I like is that shifters are turned specifically with the serum of the power they will inherit, possibly directly taken from the person they will be eating. If family bloodlines can make it easier to inherit memories then surely using the former X titan's spinal fluid would have some sort of beneficial effect. Perhaps thats why Freckles Ymir doesnt get the cool faceplate like Marcel and Porco do, because she wasn't originally turned with Jaw fluid. maybe she was originally using cart or beast fluid.
Thanks a lot for this amazing content! I do feel like it could be possible that the end was the end. Personally, I hope that's the case, but wouldn't mind if something else pops up as long as it has a certain level of quality. After how enjoyable on different levels this story was I wouldn't like to see anything less. At the same time, it took so long to get here and the whole story (at least for me) had such levels of uniqueness and perfection that that might as well just be it and we could just accept that (when I say perfect I mean it in a very peronal way, not really in the "cultural" idea of "perfection", haha). That said, I totally undesrtand your feeling of still wanting to expect more or hoping for it. Your series here is my way of still enjoy this series, as I take it as a sort of continuation. Like a documentary that extends my enjoyment of this great story! So, again, lots of thanks to you!!!
If I had to guess as to why falco was the one who gained the ability: The jaw Titan was the only one with the agility to pull off flight. The previous jaw (I can't remember his name, but he was the most capable of the jaws we saw and, ya know, falcos brother) nearly had the flight ability without having it. He was more of a frog than a bird, but the speed and ability to correct instantaneously as he landed, that's basically the kinda skills needed for winged flight like Falco, whereas the beast titans seem to be much more lumbering and easily outmanoeuvred by highly agile opponents like Levi, as we all saw.
Saying the random farmer is a badly written story, would imply there is a story. Which there isn't. The author just needed to get her out of action and so he made get prego with some random farmer person because everyone from the main cast who could have concievabely had a relationship with her was already taken. Obviously a missed opportunity, since having a soon-to-be-father going to fight Eren in the final final final season would add yet more personal tension. But can't blame the author for not seeing that far ahead.
Actually the reason Mikasa tells Historia to punch Levi is because in the manga, Levi grapples Historia & tells her to be queen in front of everybody much to everyone's distress. They didn't adapt that part so her saying in the anime just comes out of nowhere with no build up.
21:30 - I think the answer for that is that Marley DOESN'T want the titans to be even more powerful. When we truly find out about it it's around the time that other nations are starting to catch up technologically and being able to harm titans, but the power gap is still massive. Just now Marley is starting to think about a post-titan warfare world, so it's safe to say that for the past several years that wasn't a concern. If titans being defeated isn't a concern, then the bigger concern are titans being undefeated and turning on Marley. At worst case Marley can trust the Warhammer titan to be loyal and put down any rogue shifters, so by all means they DO NOT want to power them up unnecessarily (and by extension, also they wouldn't want to power up the Warhammer in case they go rogue).
Spoiler ahead just in case someone hasnt watched But im fairly certain that Annie talked about how the Female can take on the abilites of the other 9 by eating parts of them. I think she says something along the lines of "You shouldve seen the things they fed me"
Graaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh the wall titans are 50 meters!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 Edit I love these videos. This is like to only channel that likes to go in depth about stuff like how transformations work and the looks of titans and stuff while ALSO talking about the story!
I was thinking the reason Rod’s titan was so weird has something to do with how certain people are more suitable with one of the (7, I believe?) titans. Like How Ymir wasn’t a suitable jaw titan but Marcel was. Idk just a theory, a game theory
my theory is that rod knew he'd turn into such a huge titan and thats why he didnt transform himself at first, i mean his brother, we can see from kenny's flashback also had an overly huge and similar titan although it was only half transformed, that could be linked to eren stopping the cannon or trying to pick up a spoon where only half his body was transformed, maybe rod and his brother both had to just turn into huge titans, or maybe they only had collosal titan serum at the time, i just rewatched the episode and it caught my eye so ive been tryna come up with a clear explanation
At 3:20 i thought they could control the size of titan by using different titan serum. Like the jaw titan would make smaller titans, and cart titan would make the ones that move on all 4s like the one that ate thomas.
the actual explanation (i think): Rodd is of ROYAL blood who took a colossal titan shifter serum which is MANMADE(extracted) so it is imperfect. He also doesn't have the founding titan (aka the worm) in him so the resulting combination is basically a "proto doom titan" which Eren completes and shows us during the rumbling. also, eren and ymir probably decided on this form too so the story could progress.
I have also always thought that there can be many stories told in the worrld of AOT like The Great Titan War... I hope someday we get to see some of them as the World of Aot has great potential for many stories..
I could be miss remembering buy during reiners explanation of his warrior training days and when they first got their titans didn't they say the female specifically could copy the other titan powers by eating a small piece of them like some of the armor's hardened skin or the beast's hair. Also because she ate a piece of zekes titan is probably why she has low level control of pure titans.
21:41 If I had to guess, probably because of how hot the colossal titan can be. If hardening was applied to the colossal then, all of that heat would get trapped within the hardened layer or surface of the colossals skin (muscle). Which either means the hardening shatter like glass due to the heat, cook the colossal titan, or melt the colossal titan. Either way, if there is a human inside, they would literally be toast. But that’s just my hypothesis.
Even though it isn't expressly said, we know that Erin controlled Dina's titan from the future, and potentially all who have ever had the Attack Titan power. So we could say that Erin also controlled Rod's titan transformation to get the story to go how it needed to go.
Based off this and what people are saying in the comments, my head cannon for his titan is cause: 1. The serum was colossal titan spinal fluid from before the walls were built like the armour serum that Rod also had. So its a mindless titan of colossal serum. 2. Someone here mentioned that rod had a cut in his mouth from Kenny's knife so the serum hes licking off the floor would have gone straight to his blood stream leading to an instant transformation like those who are injected and unlike those transformed via gas or wine. 3. To maintain the timeline and ensure that events transpire for Eren to do his thing, may have led to Ymir building rods titan the way it is, maybe with future Erens input to with wibbly time stuff (Like with Grisha). Not 100% on this, but still.
I think a prequel going over the life of Carl Fritz would be pretty cool. I think Carl Fritz had a righteous idea but formed a very unrighteous plan to carry out that idea.
A reason for not wanting to test if an Armored Colossal titan is viable for Marley; If they then decided to attack Marley, how the hell would they even try to stop it?
When Annie was being attacked in the forest of giant trees by pure titan, Erwin mentions there's a lot of steam, and that provides a cover for Annie to escape. That could be Annie's use of the colossal titan power.
She also doesnt have skin like the colossal, muscles exposed.

Fun fact In the manga the bottle of spinal fluid actually said “colossus titan” rod being the idiot he is was tryna turn Historia into a wall titan sized founding titan
I need to get better about checking the manga whenever these things pop up 😂
But yeah, guess that just solidifies the whole spinal fluid effect theory.
COLOSSAL GYATT😳
I think he said it’d turn historia into a large, powerful one lol he wasn’t lying
That just seems redundant
Like why would it need armor

@makubesohaan3922 My neighbor is a military woman and she'd likely throw a punch with similar power to Historias punch.
Maybe the Colossal used too much energy just maintaining its form and heat expulsion, so hardening would be too much for him
Hmmm, yeah, I kinda like that line of thinking.
@@friedkeenan Falco had Zeke's spinal fluid in him which contains everything the beast had including hardening.
I mean it seems very clear he has no skin so he can get rid of all that heat
add armor to that and its just gonna pressurecook itslef to death
@@friedkeenanI do think that the explanation for Ymir seems to be that she was in her pure Titan form for so long so that was pretty much the same form she remained in. Also that and that the Jaw Titan hadn’t been properly designed when she first appeared. Similar to how the cart titans appearance changed e.g. the shifter originally being meant to be male
If you read the Manga, Levi actually had to torture Historia in order for her to become the Queen. Historia punching Levi had more impact, simply because he probably kicked the shit out of her, in the same way he kicked Eren.
Wait what?
@@Koroto Make a video about the parallels between AoT and Dune
I was just coming here to see if anyone mentioned that! So weird that he said ‘I must not become a Titan’ then became a Titan that’s just BONKERS!?
Ngl, I thought he was just being a wuss and didn't want to commit to shortening his life
only 1 problem with this line of thinking..... you can't know what the transformation is going to be like before it has happened.

Eren is a slave of freedom
Historia is a slave of duty
Mikasa is a slave of love
Erwin is a slave of ambition/ knowledge
Etc.
I thought about and i thought it sounded cool lol
Slave, or just purpose 🤔
If I remember that was a point Kenny was trying to make with Levi. Doesn't matter who they are, everyone is a slave to something.
Good video, guess my Attack on Titan phase will never end
Kinda big too
You put so much efforts and love in these videos it’s insane! Love from Italy
rod riess had his tongue cut by Kenny
Wym
Nah, it was a knife BJ
Pouring disinfectant on an open wound is very good, injecting it into your bloodstream wouldn't end well lmao 😂😂
But if we're talking purely titan magic shenanigans, then yeah, I guess that would be another conduit for the transformation.
To your end question:
I hope they make a live action with a massive budget. No rushing the visuals, no CHANGING the story (im looking at you AoT movie), and just giving another viewing option...so many people I tell should watch AoT complain as it's a "cartoon" in their eyes. I think a live action shot for shot series would do amazing if they take the time to do it right.
Wake up babe, Korotos uploaded AoT content
(also by cutting of Erens limps, they discovered that Titanshifters not just exist but also can heal like almost everything)
We also have the Abnormal Titan in Trost that runs straight at the civilians that was killed by Mikasa.
I love your videos so much. I'm always looking forward to you over analyzing
These videos on AOT are so good! Have been binging them all in about a month😭😭😭
Thank you for continuing this AoT overanalyzing despite of some new interesting shows. You’re the best. Love watching you

Can you really say any of your decisions are truly your own?"
So fucking deep bro
Wooo yeah baby!
1:40 that ova messed with me a bit
The levels of mental "HUH?!" were wild
3:00 my head canon is that the size of the pure titan is inversely proportion to the amount of spinal fluid. Meaning that if you inject enough it is human size, but a less than a drop = big AF titan. And it makes sense through the lense of titans primary goal being to return to being human, more titan fluid making them closer to human.
Or the fact that it contained spinal fluid of a colossal titan (seen in the Manga)
Given that he consumed it incorrectly, had royal blood, had a broken back, and some got in his blood stream through the cut on his tongue.
Its Weird That Nobody Here Mentioned That In The Manga That Vial Is Actually Labeled *"Armor Braun",* Rather Than Simply "Armor"
Keep your content up its insanly good
Will do! 🙇♂️
You nailed the causal deterministic explanation of free will here. Love how you applied it to this episode and AOT in general. It aligns with the overarching concept of freedom and choices, and is only magnified by Eren’s attack titan abilities. Great stuff K!
Your reviews are so well done and still stupid underrated!
Maybe you’ll get to this topic in latter seasons, but the origin and purpose of the pure titans always got me thinking a lot. Maybe the three Sisters (Maria, Rose, Sina) created them as a way to facilitate the inheritance process (so their children wouldn’t have to feel or remember eating them), but got repurposed as a weapon later by the Fritz.
man the overanalyzing is so good i cant put it into words that how good it is
21:40 My guess would be since they already have the Armor and Annie who can both do it, you don't need to add another.
It would be like adding an M4 mount to your tank.
24:26 you don’t need a Titan-Lawyer… you need a TITAN LAWYER!!
I really can't wait till you get to the last season I really love your breakdowns

I’ve could’ve sworn there was something say that when not injected into the body it results in abnormalities it’s why the Ragako titans were so weird looking and I figured due to Rod being a royal his titan was exceptionally abnormal.
"why no armored colossal titan?"
Weight.
Good way to end my Saturday.
Happy Saturday! 😄
Same dude. Just knocked off, got flu, gonna let this lull me to sleep. Thank you, Koroto!
And a great way to start mine
In the first final chapters special Annie mentions that they made her shallow a lot of stuff because of her titan speciality, I think other titans can in fact use things like hardening but the female titan is just better than the others at mimicking abilities, the colossal might be the complete opposite and that’s why we didn’t saw Bert or armin using hardening although Eren used it in the last episode so I guess it depends on the ability of the user or it could just be an anime original scene, I don’t remember if Eren used hardening as a colossal titan in the manga
I would think that having armor would interfere with the colossal titan's steam attack. It would also probably make it even slower than it already is.
I like to believe that when they are in that cave future eren used the founding powers when touching zeke and was whispering in his ear “their all gonna die” which convinced him to save them
I dunno what to do now that I've caught up with the series 😭😭
Subscribed to wait for the next ones, really hyped for it
Welcome aboard! Next one is coming very soon! 👍
small note on the comment from mikasa to historia: that said comment, where mikasa says to punch levi when historia becomes queen may seem a bit odd when only watching the anime. i think in the manga there was a scene before that, when historia was told by levi to become queen, she was forced to by levi. in the anime they changed that to historia just changing her mind on her own
I kinda assumed how much fluid was injected determined their size and maybe why some were abnormal.
In the finale, annie did say that she was forced to "eat things for experiments" that could definitely mean other spinal fluid.
This series is so good
21:30 - I think the answer for that is that Marley DOESN'T want the titans to be even more powerful.
Spoiler ahead just in case someone hasnt watched
But im fairly certain that Annie talked about how the Female can take on the abilites of the other 9 by eating parts of them. I think she says something along the lines of "You shouldve seen the things they fed me"
15:28 we love you buddy bless your heart❤ keep up the good work
Ay boys, new Koroto vid dropped
My interpretation is just that, he used serum from the colossal titan, and he couldn't hold up his form properly due to the his broken spine
Graaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh the wall titans are 50 meters!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Edit I love these videos.
I was about to watch this video - I'm saving it for dinner
my theory is that rod knew he'd turn into such a huge titan and thats why he didnt transform himself at first, i mean his brother, we can see from kenny's flashback also had an overly huge and similar titan although it was only half transformed, that could be linked to eren stopping the cannon or trying to pick up a spoon where only half his body was transformed, maybe rod and his brother both had to just turn into huge titans, or maybe they only had collosal titan serum at the time, i just rewatched the episode and it caught my eye so ive been tryna come up with a clear explanation
At 3:20 i thought they could control the size of titan by using different titan serum. Like the jaw titan would make smaller titans, and cart titan would make the ones that move on all 4s like the one that ate thomas.
I live for these videos
To me it seems more like Rod simply wanted to become a Titan, so the transformation was completed. He was also hurt, so maybe that plays a part.
the actual explanation (i think):
Rodd is of ROYAL blood who took a colossal titan shifter serum which is MANMADE(extracted) so it is imperfect.
4:10 wait that's not how you're supposed to look like at 19? Guess I'm normal then
I could be miss remembering buy during reiners explanation of his warrior training days and when they first got their titans didn't they say the female specifically could copy the other titan powers by eating a small piece of them like some of the armor's hardened skin or the beast's hair.
Remember when Falco first transforms, the first transformations are always messed up
I love these videos so much, but I feel like you're missing out by not reading the manga alongside the anime.
Based off this and what people are saying in the comments, my head cannon for his titan is cause:
I broke my back... my back is broke. Spinal....
-Rod Reiss, probably
What if connies mum and the other one, just had royal blood but it was way way way filtered down
32:10 bro we waited **4 years** for season 2. You need patience man
I think a prequel going over the life of Carl Fritz would be pretty cool. I think Carl Fritz had a righteous idea but formed a very unrighteous plan to carry out that idea.
A reason for not wanting to test if an Armored Colossal titan is viable for Marley;
If they then decided to attack Marley, how the hell would they even try to stop it?
