Seeing it in HD with the exact same soundtrack would've been awesome. I don't care if the classic vibes are gone, both WipEout's past and newer games style are timeless so I don't mind tbh.
Wipeout as a franchise died with 2048, but it's influence was strong enough to create a strong variety of other AG racing games to step into those shoes like Redout, Ballistic NG and Pacer and a community with nothing but love towards these games and their inspiration
I will say on the point about G-Tech: in the lore, they bought up the mostly-liquidated assets of AG-Systems prior to the events of Fusion, but proceeded to run themselves so callously they generously engaged in money-laundering with the criminal Overtel Corporation who were in control of the F9000 Race Commission. The investigation into Overtel and Tigron's dealings (which cancelled AG racing for a while) also revealed this of G-Tech, and what followed was so many criminal sanctions that the company was basically nuked from orbit.
what a coincidence, i've been watching your videos on past wipeout entries lately because i *just* got into the omega collection recently. been having a lot of fun with it
having 2048 on the Vita with the HD/Fury expansion is almost like having the Omega Collection on the go. the only difference is the soundtrack and the lack of the extra Van Uber and Tigron ships. that pre-order special edition that came with a miniature floating ship sounds sweet af. thank you for your amazing videos on this series!

The Omega collection was actually the first time I played a wipeout game. My roommate in college brought their PS4 with them and very generously let me buy the game on their system when it was on sale for $8. Genuinely one of my favorite racing games of all time. It really sucks that the Omega collection may very well be the last wipeout game to ever come out, but the series went out on a damn good release. With any luck maybe studio Liverpool will return one day, but for now, I'm happy with the Omega Collection
The first Wipeout game I ever played was HD/Fury on ps3, afterwards I got Pure and we already owned Wip3out that I hadn’t tried by that point. All of them are amazingly fun, with Omega Collection it feels like 3 different games in one easy-to-play package and is by far the best racing game ever.
Great to see this game getting recognition again. I've been hosting tournaments for the omega collection and its been a blast to try and keep this community going as long as possible.
To be completely fair, the PS4 itself supported custom soundtrack playing natively...the problem is that Omega didn't support taking the custom soundtracks and applying the subtle auditory effects that HD was able to.
I can play custom ST on my PS4 pro linked in game with a USB flash drive. Dunno what you talking about... PSVR1 bumping my tunes while racing in Wipeout is pure ecstasy 😂
While I love the Omega Collection, especially the reintroduction of Van-Über and Tigron, the lack of custom soundtracks was a glaring omission in my eyes. It's what gave the original HD/Fury so much longevity for me, with EDM, trance and techno playlists, as well as compilations of every Wipeout OST up to that point. I even made special playlists for Zone mode, with beat drops lined up with certain zone transitions. edit: I'm aware it's the fault of the hardware and not the game itself, just saying it's a shame.
Even though it's not integrated into the game and the race track, you can still play music from a USB or stuff like Spotify. I use Spotify a lot for racing games
Really enjoyed your look at the Wipeout series. You should consider covering BallisticNG, a spiritual successor to the early Wipeout games. I highly recommend it.
I love this franchise with a passion, it was one of the few games that majorly influenced my life. Omega Collection was incredible when it was launched, I preordered it as soon as it was announced. Last month I bought a PS5 and the first game I played was the Omega Collection. It's mind-blowing how good it still looks today, over 7 years later. I got a couple downsides of this game, The ship sounds on 2048 aren't the same from the vita and it's sad to hear because of how unique it was, like a transmission was strapped to the craft and it had to change through gears. The billboards on 2048 also aren't the same on the vita, they had animated billboards with team interviews and random fake ads in game but because of limitations the videos for the billboards are very small and hard to see. Besides that the game is flawless. You should check out Pacer (Formula Fusion), the Designers Republic was hired to design it and it had a troubled development life but it is technically a sequel to WipEout, similar to BallisticNG/SlipStream GX.
This is the video that I have been waiting for and I loved every second of it but I also wish that you talked about the online experience at least a little bit
Well, you've done it, you've finished all Wipeout games, but you're not done yet, what if I told there's the equivalent of Sonic Mania for Wipeout? Enter BallisticNG, you'll have to leave the Sony family and enter the PC realm for this one, but what you'll find there is probably the closest you'll see to a new Wipeout game and I'd say it goes beyond what you'd expect from that in some aspects, specially if you follow the dev's instructions to play the development build. That's all I'm going to say, I'll leave you to find out what is there
The Achilles heel of the Omega Collection is the inability to play your own music in game. HD/Fury on the PS3 had this feature and allowed your own music to flash to the beat when in zone mode and applied echo sound effects when you go through a tunnel. I know with the PS4 you can play spotify in the background or whatever but its not the same. Apart from that, the graphics, adding VR, the new ship pick up voices, its a superb collection.
I literally bought a PS4 and VR1 just to play this game last weekend because I'd gotten into the series thanks to BallisticNG. Considering how inexpensive PS4 and VR1 is these days (and how few games there are on PS5 that I can't just play on PC instead), it was absolutely worth it.
Are those custom HUDs i see? Not sure if you mentioned them in the review but i love that, Wip3out's HUD design was my favorite and seeing it again in an official WipEout title that's THIS RECENT makes me so happy lol
HD/Fury was my first and only WipEout game. I played it for maybe 3 hours and never touched it again. I knew of the existence of the series from old late 90's game magazines, but i had no idea how hard it was to get any fun out of it as a new player to the franchise. Too much happen on the screen at once. I also had a problem in decipher the meaning of the different HUD symbols. The little tutorial wouldn't help either. I constantly hit the wall and there was no brake button. I think the game wanted me to brake with the flaps, but using the shoulder buttons to slow down was too stupid to me.
With so many Sony titles being ported to PC lately I can only hope the Omega Collection does too as personally I have no desire on getting a PS4 nor 5. Granted I still play HD/Fury on my PS3 occasionally but I always wanted to try 2048 but getting hands on a Vita is tricky as their prices are going up because they're fantastic homebrew devices.
@@thereviewden One can only hope for a port. Honestly the franchise could do with more exposure. There's BallisticNG and while it's nice and there's no shortage of mods that help mimic Wipeout it's not quite the same as playing the OG games.
You want a nitpick? I'll give you a nitpick I still dislike to this day that HD Fury's campaign doesnt include any of the HD reverse tracks, like sure you can play then in the racebox but it definitively isn't the same when you have the superficial incentive of getting them gold medals bro. Also the lack of reverse tracks in general in 2048 is also something that baffles me, albeit to a more understandable level
Yeah, but racing them in reverse after the campaign is like a whole new experience! The campaign seems more about teaching you the tracks to get your skills up (lap trial, time trial, then race).
The reason HD’s campaign doesnt include the reverse tracks is because originally they weren’t introduced until the fury expansion. To your point, why omega didn’t include the reverse tracks in the campaign is a good question, probably to keep consistency if i had to guess
The graphics are beautiful, though when this came to PS+ and I played it, the racing felt a bit less intense than the classic games. Like it's a bit easier and slower all around? Maybe it's just me.
IMO the only modern Wipeout that doesn't suffer from this is Wipeout HD, which is included in Omega. If you're used to the original PS1 trilogy's level of difficulty all the other entries will feel quite easy, except for HD

I have to disagree about what you said about sountrack: This game has awful soundtrack!! Really disappointed to hear such a awful music in a WipeOut game. 😖 I had to download old WipeOut sountracks into usb-stick sonI could listen those while playing Omega Collection.
