Just out of curiosity I looked up the state record weight of false albacore, wanting to know how big they got. Turns out the fairly recent record is 16 pounds held by none other than John Skinner!
I get the heebie jeebies seeing them come into view in the shallows. They're so fast that it looks wrong, like a cruddy early cg film effect. Doesn't hurt that the new gopro is just the nuts.
..Thanks for sharing new options for targeting albies. ..Albie Snax looks like another lure that's creating some buzz and attention online. ..Tight lines ! )
Nice drag peeling catches. Since you mentioned the rotor and frame rate, you should consider filming at 60fps 1080p60 to capture more action. Tight lines.
Hi John, I've learn so much from your both your books and videos. I'm new to surfcasting and was fishing out of Northport yesterday and throwing a deadly dicks into a school of them and none of them were taking. It was very frustrating. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder when I'll see you out there. I'm a quite frequent visitor of that area Edit: actually had a question. I had a hard time getting them off of the bait (they had them balled up between rocks), do you have any recommendations for attracting hits?
hey John, been watching your videos recently and love the content! i am no novice to fishing with a spinning reel, but i was interested in getting a conventional reel setup as i anticipate getting a boat for next year. any recommendations? btw, i would most likely get a left handed conventional. the retrieve with the right hand is too weird. thanks for the vids and info if you reply! keep up the great videos!
I have read your bucktail book and am going to read a seasons edge and stripper pursuit. I like the bucktail book a lot and have high expectations for the others. I think it would be amazing if you did a multi species party boat book fo angles who fish them. Tight lines
Hey John, It seems the fish were in pretty close. Does that determine how heavy of a jig you choose? Was wondering if something bigger than 1-1/4oz would provide more distance on 20lb braid if the fish are further out from shore?
I'm aiming to skip the tin on the surface, so the heavier I go, the harder it is to do that without increasing the size of the lure as well as the weight.
Hi John, Really enjoy the videos. I'm in NJ and have to say waters by you look almost tropical. Would like to know what action rod you use with those jigs? I have a couple Tsunami 7ft rods in medium & medium heavy. I'm thinking the medium would work best for those 1oz jigs. Appreciate any feedback you can provide. Thanks.
Will try that one with my 4000 Daiwa Revros w/light braid. Hoping to find them a bit further north of you next month where I like to fish. Thanks for the tip. Tight lines bud.
Hey John, I saw the lure is now available in a 2oz size. Would that be considered too heavy of a jig for albies? Also do you prefer these over the peanut jigs in your other video or do you carry both depending on what they're feeding on? Thanks.
Slammer 4500 knob on a 4000 Clash handle. Theres a thread on Stripers online on how to do it (cant take credit for the idea lol). Did you get the whole Slammer handle to work on the Clash? The penn rep on there said it wouldn't. I ordered the knob in three separate parts (two knob pieces and the seal) and installed it to my clash handle.
I swapped the entire handle. I haven't fought fish with it yet, but did about 20 minutes of casting and it seemed fine, and was very comfortable. I'll follow up when I get a little more use out of it.
Hello sir, could you please tell me the exact location of this fishing spot? I tried to go there with my friends, ( Long Island sound) but I end up in people’s back yard...I could not find a single spot for fishing..everything was private. Please help me out. Thank you
Hi sir I'm Victor like to fishing a lot I salt water but I never fishing I us you can say me place for go fishing I'm fro Puerto Rico but I'm living in Florida !

no surprise, right! :-) Some people have a knack and a gift....he's got both.
I use sizes 1-3. Usually #1 when very calm, #3 with a stiff onshore wind. #2 under most conditions. BTW, I think the Hogys are better.
John Skinner Fishing I think you do to your direction I caught my first false albacore today
Little details like that regarding the super fast retrieval are gems.Once again tnks for posting. Great way to spend my lunch. ;-)
Every day I look to see if you've uploaded a new video. Never disappointed. Thanks for sharing your perspective on fishing.
Wow! That looks like a Hoot!!! Thanks for sharing. Those lures work on Pacific Bonita too. Same style of fishing. Zip!!!
Simply marvelous! Love watching your vids!

Your water is a heck of a lot cleaner than South Shore in Nassau

John have you ever tried using a casting egg and a epoxy teaser ? On the end I known usually up in rodhe Island people use casting eggs
Brother John walks those Albies to the beach like most folks walk their dog.

Great video John! Have you tried the SI epoxy jigs by Hogy? They even come in an anchovie color.
I wonder when I'll see you out there. I'm a quite frequent visitor of that area

John, Have you ever hooked a Bonito while fishing for Albies?

Stripper pursuit? I think you’ve got the wrong channel😆😉
What lure do you prefer between the peanut jig and the heavy minnow you used in the last video?
The heavy if you need a little extra distance, else this one.
@John Skinner Fishing ...what wading shoes do you recommend?
John what shoes are you wearing in this video?
Music🎶🎶🎶 to a fishermans' ears

Hey John still using that clash how is it holding up? And what time of day is this ? Thanks loving the new vids keep em coming
Clash is great. Afternoon 2-3:30.

I see. Thanks.
how do you join the brain to the fluro leader?

The 7' MH rated 10-20# is perfect!

One other question John. Do you pinch the barbs when fishing for albies like you usually do when your targeting other fish?
No. Those hooks have very small barbs, and good luck avoiding occasional slack when they're zipping around.
Ok. Thank you John. Still looking to catch my first albie. Going to try Sandy Hook this weekend.
@john skinner do a catch and cook on these Albie's
Where is this
Been trying to figure out where the best spot on the sound is to catch Albies and was wondering if I have to go super Far East to catch them?
Boat or surf?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing surf
i love blue fish
I have the same reel? Did you have the drag pretty much turned to the max?
No. They would definitely break off.
You should put the slammer knob on the clash. Big difference.
BRILLIANT! I put the slammer 3 handle on a 4000 Clash. Thanks! Did you do it on a different reel?

Yep, the entire handle works great. Thanks for the suggestion!
Where was this video shot?
You should try the hogy epoxy jig
Brandon LeBoon and
I think he should try the arbogast jitterbug and a green stick bird
where on north shore is this?
Damn I'm jealous with the kind of fishing you got up there, which state is this may I ask?
It's NY
NY, east end/north fork of Long Island. Pretty certain this was shot on the LI sound shore, almost at the very eastern end.
if know u know what beach Pl! i love albies but I can't find a spot. thank
Im yet to catch my 1st false alby, whats the best time for these little missles im on long island also
Where is this spot ?
Why don't you like bluefish?
I'm fishing tomorrow in a similar area. I better catch an Albie.
Go early. they were blitzing all day but wouldnt hit my deadly dick past 10 am.
Are you sponsored by tsunami? If not, what the hell are they doing!
It's funny cause since I was a kid my mom always called me Albie as my nick name
I want to retire there
