This year i caught tons of blackfish, up to 14 inch scup, cow stripers, monster bluefish,4 albies and tons of fluke here in Cape Cod!! All on reading John Skinner books, watching his videos and paying close attention to his instructions and techniques! That does not mean i did not get skunked because i did on some occasions! John Skinner Fishing Thank you so much!!!
This was a lovely spot you fished here John. I've never seen the striper in droves like that so close to shore in such clear water. Us west coast fisherman got our work cut out for us. Even with the right time, right place and perfect conditions it can still be a grind just to get one keeper out here in northern California. I get the occasional Bonito and Albacore from shore and they fight like hell compared to Striped Bass.
I grew up in Jersey, had no idea Albacore came in that close in the NY/NJ area! I love your videos. Really really intelligent and articulate tips, with the evidence and action to support your information. Thank you!
2016 was the first year targeting albies on eastend long island and it was the most fun ever. Alot of fish late sept.-oct. fished same technique, but at times they can be finicky so I would carry a fly with me to tie like a teaser and we were in. Can't wait great vid as usual
I think I found my new favorite video! I live in Plymouth Massachusetts. I'm thinking of loading up the truck and just driving to where ever you are lol. Excellent video I'm extreme jealous.
Wife and I ran into a pod of them off Lobsterville Beach ,MV. She saw birds working a hundred or more yards down the beach, ran and nailed a 9+ pndr. When she returned with it,she looked like she fought off an army of feral cats.Placed 2nd at derby HQ til bumped by slightly bigger one.Bad legs kept me out that year.
Why can't u ppl just get out and actually fish. Use what u got use what u like don't worry about his spots. If u explore enough spots and put ur time in u will be just as good as John. Experience is what gets u the skills. Takes time so get out and put the work in
I will use my Shimano IX 4000 casting to these albacore. 20lb line on this reel. Swimming spoon, strata type fast on the top or zara spook reeled quick, straight line in, and bucktail.
Hey I would be very interested in a guide trip from u in a kayak or even or the beach. Not sure if u do this but I'm from jersey and I would love to fish in Long Island at least once in my life time.
You should do a meet n Greet I'm from north shore of Long Island and you make this look effortless I would love to chat, I believe I've met you once on the beach, but I'm sure we would all love to meet you
Nice going John! I thought that was your old bones a rattling there when you were hooking up, but I think it may well be the camera in its case. Could well be why it switched off mid fish for you too. ATB mate.
John, thanks for posting and for your book. It looks like you don't have any trouble removing the hook so my question is: "Do you pinch the barb on your hooks?"
hi I'm a striper fisherman myself and I go to places and don't exactly find fish and every video you make you make it look easy catching them how do you find them that easily?
Hello from the UK could you answer this question please were are the most likely places to catch bonito, tunny , albacore . & what time of the year its on my bucket list to catch & cook one for my wife time & tide wait's for know man great video's thanks .
Great video! Can you please address your drag setting in some way? Can you pull it by hand? There is no standard scale on drag setting, so I often wonder if I'm too loose or too tight.
I have seen you use a variety of reels in your videos including the Van Staal, Bail-Less Penn Spinfisher, Penn Slammer III, Penn Torque, and the Penn Clash. Why such a variety of reels?
Hi John, great vids. I've told my friends about this and they really enjoy it. I'm in Virginia Beach and fish in the wildlife refuge. I'm trying to line up the rockfish fishing here but it's a hit or miss. Hopefully with your techniques. I can land 1. it's been awhile since I caught them. in this video, what was the outdoor temperature?
nice video, I have a question I just bought a penn clash 4000 and idk what rod to pair it with If im not mistaken you have yours pair with a penn batallion can you make any suggestions what rod should i pair my penn clash with i was thinking of a ugly stik elite my budget is under $100 i think the batallion is over $100 thank you
Without revealing the spot is tbis public access water? I just returned from a visit to Rocky point long island and was unable to get any intel on access from the local tackle shop. I was told most of the shore was private. I was highly disappointed to only find one small place to fish
I grew up in Brookhaven Town. I believe they now have a fishing access permit that will allow you to park at some beaches at night, plus there are regular parking permits for daytime access. check with Brookhaven Town Hall.
where are you? i always see you killing them from shore but dont know where it is. could you please give us just one spot of yours? it looks like Hampton bays.
How does he not have more subscribers? TH-cam algorithm messed up? Very educational stuff here, I see a lot of other fishing videos most are all about flash , no substance.
Japan has a whole big business set up to cook these things. Look up bonito flakes. With out taking my word directly just do a youtube search on cooking them.
Suspending jerk or one of the old floating ones. Smaller swim baits, unweighted should work too. I usually out-fish spin fisherman with a fly rod when stripers are on silversides but I'm sure if you downsize appropriately you could do just fine with spinning gear.
It's a fun way to fish for stripers. If you ever have the time, give it a try. It isn't as hard as it looks! But you should be able to get the silverside eaters by downsizing and making sure you aren't using something that will sink to the bottom too fast.
Can we meet one day to go fishing? I need some tips from a pro. I live in far rockaway queens. You should know its also in Long Island. Please let me know. I would enjoy going and learning to get away from the violence
We can only dream of this on the western side of things!
EliasVFishing love your videos
????? We have REAL albacore out here in the West!
Yea you gotta go like 20 miles offshore but its worth it!
wow I see it and it is still hard to believe it.. every video you are right on the fish,, thanks again for sharing the excitement
This video is just a masterpeice. the visual is great with the beautiful fish and the reeling. but the commentary is so relaxing and nice to listen to
This was a lovely spot you fished here John. I've never seen the striper in droves like that so close to shore in such clear water. Us west coast fisherman got our work cut out for us. I get the occasional Bonito and Albacore from shore and they fight like hell compared to Striped Bass.
Great video. I swear, I love seeing the fish almost as much as catching them. I could stand there for minutes in between casts and watch them work.
I grew up in Jersey, had no idea Albacore came in that close in the NY/NJ area! I love your videos. Really really intelligent and articulate tips, with the evidence and action to support your information. Thank you!
Skinner is a fish magnet!!
2016 was the first year targeting albies on eastend long island and it was the most fun ever. Alot of fish late sept.-oct. fished same technique, but at times they can be finicky so I would carry a fly with me to tie like a teaser and we were in. Can't wait
great vid as usual
Wow great video Man U have the beach all to yourself that's a dream I would never want to wake up from.
Amazing videos John , I learn so much from you. Thank you keep them coming.
I think I found my new favorite video! I live in Plymouth Massachusetts. I'm thinking of loading up the truck and just driving to where ever you are lol. Excellent video I'm extreme jealous.
That was awesome fishing. Looks like a lot of fun.
OMG, you make it look so easy. I wish. thanks for the videos
Perfection, conditions, action, beautiful location ......
looks at those things swim away like a bullet in the water. Dang! A kid would love to hook into that. Heck even I would.
nice full screen, thanks, I hope you take a lot of
pride in what you do , .....you do them very well.
...stoke to the surfcasting fire!
Awesome vid. Wish I was there!
Love the fish breaking in close to the left of you, must have lateral stripes on them...
nice...that was an awesome trip.
Why can't u ppl just get out and actually fish. Use what u got use what u like don't worry about his spots. If u explore enough spots and put ur time in u will be just as good as John. Experience is what gets u the skills. Takes time so get out and put the work in
great looking fish! nice vid man!
those albies are so calm once you land them compared to the stripers.
I will use my Shimano IX 4000 casting to these albacore. 20lb line on this reel. Swimming spoon, strata type fast on the top or zara spook reeled quick, straight line in, and bucktail.
Awesome video!
Like a kid in a candy store lol -Def on the inshore biomass here -best fishing vids on the net -appreciated
Sweet video love the footage great information
Very nice!
Keep up the good work
I know where you are, John Skinner! Tight lines!!!!!!!!!!
Hey I would be very interested in a guide trip from u in a kayak or even or the beach. Not sure if u do this but I'm from jersey and I would love to fish in Long Island at least once in my life time.
Very fast retrieve on the albies - very fast swimmers!
Is there much fly fishing done for both species? It would look like the ideal method when they are so close. Even I can cast that far!
You should do a meet n Greet I'm from north shore of Long Island and you make this look effortless I would love to chat, I believe I've met you once on the beach, but I'm sure we would all love to meet you
Very cool, John. Hard to believe you have that stretch to yourself. We use the Deadly Dick down south here also. Great albie lure.
"I feel like I'm fishing in an aquarium here"
What's the advantage of adding the swivel between the leader and the main line? Doesn't additional knots and hardware weaken the setup?
Seems like personal preference. I use the barrel swivel too. If skinner uses it, I’m using it lol
Another Gem. Thank you
hi I'm a striper fisherman myself and I go to places and don't exactly find fish and every video you make you make it look easy catching them how do you find them that easily?
On some occasions I would catch albies when striper fishing with bucktails.
the water is so clear. where are you fishing?
What part of the sound is this? It’s beautiful
eastern end
always make it look easy
is this the bay?
Hello from the UK could you answer this question please were are the most likely places to catch bonito, tunny , albacore . & what time of the year its on my bucket list to catch & cook one for my wife time & tide wait's for know man great video's thanks .
Where I live, September on Long Island's South Shore, October on Long Island's North Shore - false albacore.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks tight lines
Good video!
Have you (or anybody else) known of False Albies north of Cape Cod? I'm in Casco Bay Maine & would love to know of spots to try for these. Thanks.
Nice crystal clear hd video! Where are you on the north shore?
damn that's sweet surf fishing
You should use your skeleton case if there's not much chance of getting the gopro wet so we can hear more of the ambient sound...
Great video! Can you please address your drag setting in some way? Can you pull it by hand? There is no standard scale on drag setting, so I often wonder if I'm too loose or too tight.
Wish I knew a fraction of Johns fishing spots
Ryan Lesko i wish i had a fraction of his knowledge and skill
I was thinking the same thing dude is all by himself how is that. That's a dream I would never want to wake up from my god.
the Video could be 2 hours long and i would still watch it.
John this is awesome where are you at? I would love to go fishing with you.
Can you eat those false albacores? I am gathering they are a type of tuna.
Nice love me some albies
are those good eating.. the false albacore John,,and can you tell me if those are up here in R.I. ALSO John
John, do you expect these boils of stripers to occur based on conditions or do you just happen upon a bunch of fish
I wish I could catch this many fish on Long Island
Unbelievable!! days of fishing like this are, for me at least, very few and far between. What part of the country do you fish?
How do you target albacore I know in the fall but how do you get them like this quickly?
I know this is an old video but what time of day was this?
Are these the only species of tuna that you can catch from shore (on the upper east coast)?
I have seen you use a variety of reels in your videos including the Van Staal, Bail-Less Penn Spinfisher, Penn Slammer III, Penn Torque, and the Penn Clash. Why such a variety of reels?
What beach is that? Is that Sunken Meadow
Are albies the same thing as bonitos?
Mr. can you give me this location? it seems very interesting. i want to catch one of these albie.
Those Albies were great little fish to play, lots of speed. Do you keep any or all catch and release?
FishingwithJim they are a type of tuna however they are bloody so bleeding them is necessary they have red meat and are good pan seared
John, when fishing for false albacore, are you using braid or mono? The reel I have in mind for a setup is a Penn 5500SS with a 7.5' G. Loomis.
nice video, I have a question I just bought a penn clash 4000
and idk what rod to pair it with If im not mistaken you have yours pair with a penn batallion
can you make any suggestions
what rod should i pair my penn clash with i was thinking of a ugly stik elite my budget is under $100 i think the batallion is over $100
thank you
where along the north shore?
Nice video pal.. thank you .. Where is every body ... what a nice looking place. What are Tins ??
Without revealing the spot is tbis public access water? I just returned from a visit to Rocky point long island and was unable to get any intel on access from the local tackle shop. I was told most of the shore was private. I was highly disappointed to only find one small place to fish
I grew up in Brookhaven Town. I believe they now have a fishing access permit that will allow you to park at some beaches at night, plus there are regular parking permits for daytime access. check with Brookhaven Town Hall.
Hey John so are you blind casting these albies or do you see them busting?
Almost all blind casting.
One of my favorite of your albie videos, how do you keep the drag when fishing for these little beasts?
As tight as I can without breaking the line when they run.
I have a couple questions. Why are they called false albacore? Who named that bait?
How's the clash hold up? Have you had any problems with it?
Dalen Fusaro clash is golden. i had the knob fall off twice into the water somehow but penn replaced them
Great vid! I prefer epoxy jigs for Albies.
Gulp_Man102 same
These false albacore fight harder than the bluefish
What time of year?
where are you? i always see you killing them from shore but dont know where it is. could you please give us just one spot of yours? it looks like Hampton bays.
Can I have the GPS coordinates for this spot ...
Me to
what beach is this I live in longisland never get any luck
Hey John. How do you know when albies are in the area to fish? Do you go by fishing reports or by bait in the area?
The guy puts in a lot of time on the water and he also knows people who focus on albies. I'm sure they all hook each other up.
Aren't those just Bonito?
Can you share the location you are fishing.
North Shore of Eastern LI, NY
How does he not have more subscribers? TH-cam algorithm messed up? Very educational stuff here, I see a lot of other fishing videos most are all about flash , no substance.
I appreciate the kind words.
Are the false albies good to eat?
Most people will say "no".
John Skinner Fishing
John Skinner Fishing I would really like it if you reply my question
Japan has a whole big business set up to cook these things. Look up bonito flakes. With out taking my word directly just do a youtube search on cooking them.
Sashimi is so nice! you need to take their blood as soon as you catch and put in ice.
How is the Penn behaving?
My second season using a Clash 4000 on the albies - love it.
How many lb braid n how many grams lures n which kind pls
20# braid, 1.3-ounce lure
i find albies hard to tell when they are around any tips?
I look for birds and large schools of bait and if its fall there will probably be some albies.
hi was wondering what size rod you would recommend for ssv4500
Sarah Cool check the ratings on the rods you're looking at. Most manufacturers will match them up pretty well.
what is the best way to catch small striped bass that are aggressively feeding on atlantic silverside in shallow water ?
Flies. Or smaller freshwater plugs, like a 2 inch rapala.
RM Lytle like a suspending jerk bait ?
Suspending jerk or one of the old floating ones. Smaller swim baits, unweighted should work too. I usually out-fish spin fisherman with a fly rod when stripers are on silversides but I'm sure if you downsize appropriately you could do just fine with spinning gear.
RM Lytle i dont know how to fly fish
It's a fun way to fish for stripers. If you ever have the time, give it a try. It isn't as hard as it looks! But you should be able to get the silverside eaters by downsizing and making sure you aren't using something that will sink to the bottom too fast.
what's the casting weight of the rod
Can we meet one day to go fishing? I need some tips from a pro. I live in far rockaway queens. You should know its also in Long Island. Please let me know. I would enjoy going and learning to get away from the violence
Learning, to get away from the violence
Where are you fishing
Would 15 braid work too?
Yes.
