  • I know a decent amount about different types of batteries. Since both of my etrac batteries needed re-celled, i thought i would share on how to do this yourself at home for cheap. If you have any questions i would be glad to answer them for you. The batteries in an etrac are NIMH and they are 1.2 volts per cell. Its very important that they don't drop below 1 volt per cell for an extended period of time. The etrac has a cutoff so it doesn't ruin the batteries. If you are done detecting and the battery was dead, charge it when you get home. NIMH batteries slowly discharge on their own. When they sit without being charged is when they lose capacity. Also, it is important not to charge a etrac battery though the circuits in the pack beyond 800ma, the stock charger charges at 100 ma, that's why it takes so long.

    Nick, very good instructional video..have you ever been a teacher? I haven't seen many video's from you this past year and yet I am hoping you got out, and that Ian, and you have found some great stuff? Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    forgot to ask. could you charge this unit has normal using minelab charger ? Thankyou very much mate this really is a great tutorial...you made it look so simple. I,m sure this guide/tutorial will save any half handy minelab owner a small fortune over the years

      +brianfindsall it will take about 28 hours to charge fully with the minelab charger. I use the turnigy smart charger though because i can monitor what is going on and cycle them in the winter. I think the circuitry in the front of the pack is an over voltage protector, maybe to stop the detector from signaling batt low when there are surges? I would think its to protect the electronics in the detector and regulate the voltage, not 100% sure though. It is important to charge .5 amps or less through the port though. The unbranded batteries dont mean anything, they are good batteries from minelab, surley they dont use crap. If you buy replacements make sure you stick to the ones i listed. I have tested several brands and these are the only ones that are true to the claimed milli-amps...Good Luck!

      What numbers do you use on your Accucell Six charger when charging and also what numbers do you use for discharging ? ......Do you drop the amps down for a longer lasting battery when charged ? ....Thanks ...Jim

      i charge @ .4 on the nimh setting miliamps on the accucell. The duracell pack normally holds about 2600 +or-. When i cycle il use dsg/chg 2 times, discharge rate of .1 and a charge rate of .4. Remember, its very important to set the discharge to 8volts, no less or you will ruin the pack. Cant go below 1 volt per cell...its very important...

    Good night. I have a colleague who lives in a community and supports the family by cleaning the beaches here in Rio de Janeiro. His detector is the ESCALIBUR II When you turn on a signal, you get no signal at all. Lives in Rio de Janeiro. Can you help where you can have it repaired? Thanks for the support.Angelo

    I did exactly as you did with the same batteries but when I charge up the voltage only reaches 10.54V and when I put into detector the battery indicator does not show a full bar. Have I done something wrong?

    Hi Can the battery pack still be left on the minelab charger indefinitely as the original

  • @cachemole
    @cachemole 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you still charge it with the minelab charger? The thing I hate about the minelab charger is its hard to tell if its fully charged.

      @Mr2SMOKER  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can. I use an accucell 6 which i can cycle and see how many milliamps the pack is actually holding. Also you can easily test any existing packs. If you use the duracell, i found these are the best.

      Thats great, thanks. Is that an RC car charger? I have been an RC car enthusiast since 1979 but I haven't kept up with charger and battery tech since the mid 90's...lol. Lipo batteries and brushless motors are awesome.

    Whats to stop the oxidation on the batteries in series? I would think that they should all be hard wired to each other.

    • @Mr2SMOKER
      @Mr2SMOKER  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** you can buy batteries with solder tabs if you want. Most people without soldering skills would ruin a NIMH battery trying to do it.They wont oxidize unless it got water inside. normally when you see corrosion its from alkaline type batteries that have leaked. You could use some di-electric grease between the cells if you were worried though....

    how long does it take on the turnigy charger,,I have a Imax charger,,,curious how your wire leads are on charging the pack .?do you just use alligator clips to the front of the pack to your charger....thanks

    • @Mr2SMOKER
      @Mr2SMOKER  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really sure i long it takes because i just let it run and in the morning its charged. PM me your phone number and ill text you a picture of the gizmo i made to hold the pack while it charges. It was tough to get the alligator clips to get a good connection throughout the charge...it would fall off and i woulnt know it...
