Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I usually refrain from posting videos on holidays, but I was very thankful to have caught a fish of this caliber. This is Part 1 of the awesome day I had. Part 2 will be my next upload. Stay tuned and enjoy that pumpkin pie with family and friends. KNUCKS!
Nice fish!! Thanks for taking the camera off. I was more sea sick in the first 4 minutes sitting on my sofa watching this than I was in 20’ swells for 2 daysat sea. 😂
@@ChattCats yes they are. They sure are a lot of fun to catch. I plan on going again Monday morning. I'm trying to fish all I can before it gets to cold.
40lb class is always my favorite 30s are welcome caught many but 40s and up are always a great great catch. Hard fight gets hart pumping. Love it good for you.
Omg, that was A WHOPPER, CORRECTION ITS A WHALER!! LOL, THAT WAS AMAZING, THANKS FOR SHARING THIS, YOU SURE HAD YOUR HANDS FULL, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK👍👍 MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄
Man they where biting fast the big ones where out for sure and hungry. Thanks for sharing this awesome video with us. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!!
I've have really gotten "hooked" into your colder weather videos. I'm looking to try and use some of your techniques up here on the Cumberland River. I must ask, what kind of boat do you have. I really like the set up.
I'm actually unavailable to guide for the rest of this year. Wrestling season is in full swing and my weekends are very limited. I'm now booking trips for the Spring 2020. I'm available on weekends. You can send me an email to joe.jellison@gmail.com
That river is loaded with huge cats from chickamauga dam all the way to nickajack dam and on pass nickajack, all you need is blue gill or shad or raw chicken with skin preferably thigh or chicken liver or even some skip jack..i know places on that river that you can catchem daily 30 and 40 plus ..especially in the i-24 curve leaving the city headed toward tiftonia...if you ever go have any of those baits and enjoy
Hey brother I live in Cherokee County GA. Please give me some location pointers on that river maybe a landmark or two. Those are some huge beautiful fish. Thanks for posting this video I'm liking and subscribing.
Joe what line do you run ive neen watching your channel a bit you.got me into the okuma classic clx-300la..when I cast it makes a screeching noise is that normal?maybe to much line idk?
Instead of cutting the tail of first while the firsh alive. Go for the head first? You knkw make the death quick... just a thought. But looks like you having a blast!
Ha I hate to ask but the hook and line that was already on the fish was it a braided line did you notice ? I still wonder what happen to the one that broke mine about three weeks ago haha .
I had one rod with the santee rig - the bait is right off the bottom (maybe a few inches). The other rods were carolina rigged - the bait is right on the bottom
I used to use bluegill in Tennessee for cut bait. It has been years since I've been fishing though. I recently moved to northeast Alabama, near the Tennessee and Georgia lines. I'm planning to start fishing again, now that I live so close to these big, beautiful waterways. I see Nickajack Lake all the time, coming down off the mountain I live on. I mentioned using bluegill to a local fisherman, and he told me it is illegal to use in Alabama. I figured maybe it was also in Tn, and I was just ignorant of the law, but I guess not. Is it really illegal in Alabama, or was that guy just blowing smoke? He said skip jack is the only cut bait used here. Maybe i should google it, and find out for sure. I have a pond full of bluegill, that I could use for free bait. All small fish, but the pond is pretty much overcrowded, and needs to be fished out a bit, to make room for growth.
I'm not sure what the rules and regulations are for using bluegill as bait in Alabama. I know in Tennessee you can use bluegill as bait. It needs to be caught with rod/reel and not with a cast net.
Caught a few blues in the 50+ range in the last few weeks here in florida. Let me know when you come this way! We caught the biggest blue on a huge shellcracker in about 40ft of fast water
Maybe u don't neèd to be running 5 poles when it's only u in the boat. That's why u missed the other fish. I think 3 poles is plenty enough for one person
Would you mind cutting the Bluegill's head instead of it's tail first? As people who live for our outdoor sports, we must always endeavor to be respectful to the creatures of the outdoors and, when we take their lives, to do so as humanely and ethically as possible. Great fun those big catfish must be to catch. Well done.

You can really tell how healthy that river is. Quality catfish. Awesome video
That river is my second home!
My hat off to your part in conservation. Giving someone else a chance to catch that trophy sized cat is very commendable.

Great bluecat my friend, Joe I’ve got to get my tail back on the water. You have fun and really encourage people to go fishing. Thanks 🇺🇸
Hope you can make time to get out there.
I've been getting more and more into the catfish gig.. Its amazing the fight even a 15 pounder can give you.. Love the sound of drag peeling..
Yep! They are a very fun fish to catch!
Even an 8lb channel lol.
When you let go of that rod, I fully expected that to be a bye bye rod moment.
Lol

It was a GREAT day!
Your boat setup is dope
Thanks!
Do you guys have the old "Bait Shops" where you are? We used to use Sardines like you are using the Bluegill. They worked good too for cats.
The only and best bait shop around is Jack's Bait and Tackle.

Man nice video man its legal use blue guiill for bait I'm star fishing months ago like u videos nice big cat fhis
It depends on where you are fishing. Here in Tennessee, you can use bluegill as bait.
Awesome blue man I like your videos so much

Simple tip. Hook the head in one eye socket and out the other. Much harder to tear off than hooking through the lips.
Thanks for the tip!

No, it was monofilament
I bet you are getting nightmares from that big one that got away. I know the feeling.
Do you do guide trips for big cat fish ? If so how much ?
Hi Bobby! Prices for a charter trip in vid description. Thanks.
Giant Cat you just earned yourself a new subscriber . My biggest Cat is only like 12 lbs
12 lb catfish is a great fish!
Where are. You fishing at.
Tennessee River, Nickajack Lake
I usually chase the flatheads but have landed some decent blues
Flatheads are awesome!
@@ChattCats you should make a video using green nightcrawlers not the whole video but try them for catfish
Been watching you for 2 years now you are a beast. Isn't this the spot you hit that 100 pounder? Man I'd love to fish with you
Yes! :-)
Well hell. Lol. I did not have that good of luck that day. Way to go
It was a great day for quality but a slow day for numbers.
so the bait should sit on the bottom? not lifted off the floor?
I had one rod with the santee rig - the bait is right off the bottom (maybe a few inches). The other rods were carolina rigged - the bait is right on the bottom
Got enough rods out?
I typically use 5 or 6 when anchor fishing
How many rods you need man. Seems a bit much and illegal in Ks we are only allowed three with a permit
I typically use 5-6 when anchor fishing
There is no rod limit in Tennessee
You should of used a live sunnie would of loved to see that
Haven't we all experienced that? I can not begin to count that number. Break offs are break offs.
It happens to the best of us.
If you aren't breaking off once in a while you aren't fishing
Can I do this In a creek cause right now their still biting but after it gets to cold I'm afraid I aint gonna be able to
Yes. If your creek is deep, high, and muddy with current then there should be some in there.
Badass!
🔥👍🏽
Ahhh nice man. I need to go fishing with you :) haha!
how do the okumas hold up ?
Very well! I've had no issues with them.
awsome I was thinking about getting a few for myself , thank you very much!

You're damn good fisherman I can tell mentally you're in the zone that's wat it takes to be successful.Chef
Thanks, Todd!
Thats a big hole right there right like 80 90 foot
What size hooks do you use?
8/0

where i am from the we fish for a catfish species called Silurus glanis in latin. They get up to 86 inches or 220 cm and 275 pounds or 125 kg
That's awesome!

I typically use five or six when fishing solo. Doubles and triples don't happen very often for me, but yeah, it happens...
4:52 when he turns the fish so you can see it’s face, does anyone else see it open it’s mouth for a split second or is it just me?
Not unusual. Bream heads stay active for a while from a fresh decapitation.

Was a toad but TURNED into a bruiser...I'm confused
Just a word to describe how big the fish was
I went fishing yesterday at a catfish spot and a big ass catfish got on my rod and it broke my string
Bummer!
Dude ..they don't breath air...hurry a lil bit
Would u was the blood off yo hands before picking up then rods
The only powerful fish I could think is the cat fish
I’m doubled up ... what a horrible problem to have 😂!
It was crazy! I had my hands full!
If you ever need an extra hand hit me up. Nice fish
