      Great information but how did you find silent flasher's? All the flasher's I've found are typically specialized relays with the circuitry to make it work.

  • @TexasEngineer

    You may have a back feed problem. If the ignition is off, the hazards are on and a turn signal is on, you might have power on your ignition circuit. This would require a diode unless your LED flasher incorporates a diode. This should have been explained.

    I am trying to improve the wiring on my karmann ghia. I get 13.5v at the battery and the generator. but in the front of the car I only get 10v. so my lights are very dim. I am going to rewire it one circuit at time using your videos. FANTAST by the way. Because I have some issues would it be dumb to not ground each circuit on the car and run a wire back to the fuse area? That way if there is an issue somewhere grounding the battery/ motor/ chassis at least my lights will be 100% when I can get higher voltage to the front of the car. (motor in the back) I really appreciate these videos.

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael! You can absolutely run ground wires all the way to a fuse panel or ground distribution block. That being said, that is how British cars were wired for about 50 years and they are well hated for overly complex wiring! If I were there helping you out, I’d make sure the chassis and engine were both grounded well from the battery, and then ground all the lights right to the chassis. You may have to clean paint/undercoating off of the chassis to get hood grounds, but it is a lot less wire to do it this way. Also - old light sockets are a common cause of problems. Don’t be afraid to buy brand new bulb sockets for your bulbs so they have a good, clean connection to the bulbs. Good luck! I’m rooting for you!

      You may want to check and clean your light switches as well. Older cars tend to run full current through their switches which can cause issues. I know my mk1 Jetta has issues with low voltage high beam circuits because of the power going through the stalk instead of a relay.

    • @ElectraJetProp
      @ElectraJetProp ปีที่แล้ว

      You can: you'll need a distribution block from the hazard flasher load side splitting to both halves of the turn signal lights. Remember that some installations have a fender turn signal light as well, and most will have a dash indicator as well, so you'll need to keep that in mind when calculating your loads.

    In the Old Days, When A Bulb burned out, It stopped flashing. Like a Resetable Circuit Breaker.
    New Flashers(Electronic) Do a Quick Flash when a Bulb burns out.
    Resistance Added to LED's can Make them Work.
    When Outdoor Led Flood lights came out, The Resistance(Load)was So Low, wouldn't Work With Motion Detectors, I would Add A Small Relay So the Resistance of the Coil was enought to make them Work correctly. Didn't use Relay Contacts, Just the Coil to increase the Load, Worked Good.

  • @AztecWarrior69_69
    @AztecWarrior69_69 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You don't need 2 different flashers to do this. Just look at most vehicles, they only have one flasher. As far as the hazards needing to be useable when car is off, that's just a matter of running the power through either the ignition or direct and you use a DPDT switch instead of the DPST. Add two diodes. Add four more diodes if you intend to be able to use the turn signals as brakes.

    Do these LED flashers draw any current when the Signals/ Hazard switches are turned off?
    I'm thinking of the Hazard flasher in particular ,being connected to constant 12v. Since the LED flashers aren't Load Sensing, I assume they are always On (Always flashing)? If so, any chance they pull current before the Hazard switch directs the flashing 12v signal to the Marker lights?
    Hope that makes sense!

    • @ElectraJetProp
      @ElectraJetProp ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they don't because the circuit is open, not complete. The flasher has 12V coming in, but the three-way switch is in the middle position (open), that way the circuit is incomplete and thus no current flow.
      Another way to see it is a bulb that is connected to battery positive but not grounded: you have no complete circuit and no current flow. Much like those horn circuits with two wires going into the horn diaphragm because unlike most other automotive components, they are ground-switched instead of battery-positive switched.

    Can use 25-30a toggle switches with no relay if your load will only be 12a? I know I'm "supposed to use relays", but it's usually said that's because the toggle switches aren't made to handle that load...

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! As long as your switches and wiring can handle the load, you don’t necessarily need any relays.

    • @WiringRescue

      It sounds like you are wiring both sides together somewhere in the circuit. Do you have some kind of signal light connected on the dashboard ? If so, that’s your problem.

    Great video, explanation of the circuit was fantastic. I am rewiring a old car that was 6 volt to a 12 volt system and this circuit is exactly what I was looking for except for 1 thing. I have a single bulb in the dash for the indicator with no emergency flasher so where does that bulb get its power from so it flashes for both right or left turn? I did try a three wire flasher but the dash indicator would stay on steady all the time but flash when the signal was activated. Thanks for any help

      The 3 pin relays are for LED's only.
      Pin 31 is ground, pin 49 is fused 12V from battery, and the pin 49A is positive and negative output. It alternates between + and -
      Pin 49A will turn on your indicators and your single dash/pilot indicator light alternately.
      If using LED's for the dash/pilot light, make sure it's a single LED and not a cluster. It must be a very low wattage, mine was 0.5 watts.
      It will work with incandescent bulb too, but it would not fully turn off when blinking.
      And if it is higher than 2 watts it will remain lit all the time

    So, on an old ford truck I wanted to add hazards. Is ran fused full time power to a latching pushbutton switch that then is connected to a electronic flasher relay. Then I ran a wire from the relay load pin to the turn signal signals in series.. System seemed to work, but then I tried the turn signals. They apparently used the hazard connection wires to activate all the turn signals. Do I need to put diodes in the turn signal feeds? Or?

    6:56 I want to do this on my motorcycle but I have a question.
    What would happen if you have the turn signal ON & then you turn the hazards ON?
    Would that cause a short or something? since you're powering one from the ignition & one straight from the battery?

    • @WiringRescue

      In that scenario, the hazard wins. As soon as your hazards are off, your turn signal continues flashing.

    Huge question:
    I'm trying to find a relay to add a blinker function to a taillight and headlight of a KRX1000 UTV.
    There has to be a relay I could supply power to that has enough function to allow the lights to flash regardless to weather or not the brake is on or off / lights are on or off...
    Any thoughts?
    I would like to tie this directly into the factory wiring harness.

    Motorcycles don't use a second relay for flasher. They use a dpdt switch, but for it to work, the ignition needs to be ON or in the Hazzard/acc position. It's a simpler circuit, but the ignition or acc needs to be on. 👍👍

      @@WiringRescue they generally have hi low and turn on them. if you google snow dog plow lights or even universal plow lights you will see the most used kit everyone picks up as they run about $200 vs $1000+ from the original dealers like say western plows. the snow dog kit comes with a wire harness but its kind of ghetto the way they want you to wire it up. they have a 5 pin plug off the lights them self to work with tho so you can cut the harness out of the system and rewire it yourself. if theres a way to PM you on facebook, email or something along those lines i would be more then happy to send photos of my plow set up and lights to give you a better idea of it all.
