- On the eve of IPL 2024, I go down the memory lane and try to jot the best ever XI to have played in the tournament. It certainly wasn't an easy task. I was intrigued whether I should don the hat of an analyst and go by pure numbers, or form a side on the basis of my instincts as a fan. Nevertheless, after an intense brainstorming, I have managed to come up with this list that can be labelled as a Dream Team in its fair right. Thoughts and suggestions, anyone?

that 90 in less than 30 balls and almost broken record of gayle but got tragic run out
Though I can understand the sentiment, but whatever you stated is factually incorrect. CSK had won 117 games till 2021, when Raina retired. And Raina missed few games as well through his career. And even if you credit all CSK wins to Raina that number lies between 100 to 110. SKY has 129 ipl games under his belt. Having said that Raina over SKY in all time list.

Warner is an influencial captain and has been an amazing amazing player for srh. Gayle has been let go by multiple franchises and was never as consistent as Warner

I am surprised D J Bravo didn't even make the preliminary lists, let alone one of the final 11s. His death bowling was almost impossible to score against, and a handy batsman who brings a lot of fun into the side.
I also agree with everyone who has mentioned Suresh Raina. No all-time IPL team without Mr.IPL.
He is there in the initial set at 2:05 mark
The fact that it can come across his mind of sky over Raina shows the effect of recency. Nobody who has known the IPL would pick anyone over Raina not even AB,MS or Virat

Any IPL all time XI would be incomplete without Raina. Having played half of his IPL career on the challenging pitch of Chepauk, he made a significant impact. Furthermore, it's undeniable that Bravo had a greater impact than Russell.

If I may suggest something for the future videos, How about building a team around 9 teams including all seasons against the invincible 11 of one side, example 9 teams best 11/12(considering impact sub) against 11/12 of Mumbai Indians. Same with CSK, etc.

Just one change Watson in place of Gayle. What a monster of a batsman but here doesn’t have any ipl trophy. Watson coz of his sheer impact. In early years, RR fans used to ask when is he arriving. The team was built around him, he was there when most needed.
Honestly, picking 11 is so difficult, but becomes easier closer to the end. You can also argue to put in Yusuf Pathan near the end. This guy was a beast with KKR

The voice of cricket is still evolving great to see. Just a suggestion, something you can incorporate in this channel is data analytics, I know you must know it already. I started watching Jarrod Kimber's channel during the world cup, his analysis is the best I have seen in cricket yet, he managed to add context of the match in data as well which is usually the problem people point out while doing cricket data analysis, will be great to watch a Indian commentator add these things, I see potential in that.

Harsha - Is there a reason that Rohit is not there even in your initial shortlists? Also - Virat coming in as opener, I feel violate the rule that they should have played primarily in that role.

Virat has played more matches as an opener than Rohit in IPL and as an opener Rohit has been very poor , he's done well down the order in his early years

I don't know how hardik is even making the side as we have much quality all rounders than him
limit of foreign players as 4 puts a big constraint as most are explosive top order batsman and 1 bowling spot is fixed to malinga. Leaves place only for indian allrounders unless you put in watson.

Another suggestion, use close up.picture so it's clearly visible on the thumbnail. Also you can have the same design template but make some change other than text so each thumbnail looks a bit different to make them all varied

Rohit / Sehwag - Both are similar, explosive, nightmare for the opponents

Same team with jadeja replacing ashwin at 8. Almost similar bowling record with ashwin slightly ahead but falls a lot in batting and fielding.
Russell, Bravo and Watson are interchangeable and at any day only one them makes any team. But what Pollard did for MI not just one season but in 8 seasons, how can one overlook him. Also the deceptive athleticism and shear catching of Pollard can also be not substituted.

In a few years, KL Rahul HAS to be on this list. Since 2018 his consistency has been unrivaled with 590+ runs in every season except 2023 when he was injured midway. For those of you guys who say strike rate, in 2024 he has been striking at almost 150 in the powerplay
To be honest this is an impossible task to make best playing 11 in ipl of all time

How wrong can a team selection be?
Watson or Hussey as an opener. The consistency of Hussey and the impact in big matches makes him better.
I would have picked SKY in place of AB, just to accommodate Narine in place of Ashwin. Just imagine Narine, Bumrah and Malinga bowling the last 5-6 overs.

I believe, we can't look beyond Rashid Khan and Chahal in the spin department. It is hard to not pick Gayle and Malinga but Bravo gives me overs in the death and is a decent number-7 batsman and Warner is an all-time IPL legend.

I would never go with the number of runs scored by the player, 'sometimes' SR is also ok for me, Im okay with sky or Raina buz when they both play it looks like they were not watching the scoreboard and they know they are not finishers it is someone else to do that job, and they just lift their team up when they are at the crease

Virat kohli walks into the side of any 11 , If I was a cricketer I wouldn't want to bowl to 2016 virat, he was that good that year scoring whenever he touch the bat,if I had beaten his bat once then I can consider myself descent bowler, if i took his wicket once then I would consider myself as a good bowler he was that good that year,he had the impact, the top scorer of the tournament and can play 1 2 and 3 position , No 1. Virat, whom does he open with I had a thought between gayle and warner , two left hander , make right left combination, gayle towards the end was not that successful, no doubt he is the best hitter of the tournament, on the other side David warner, the most successful overseas batter in this tournament had lead the team to victory in 2016, but very tough to choose between Watson and warner, I don't want to leave warner but I am going with Watson, once because of runs he scored in 08, 18, 19 final was always been a big match player can give me couple of overs if needed

Three great contenters to me harbhajan, Sunil Narine and Ashwin what these three done to this sport is impeccable, very very tough here for me what Sunil narine does with bat and economy at which he bowls sunil Narine slight very slightly pips over the other two, for anyone who picks the other two is also justified. 9. I want Bhuvaneshwar kumar is my side he open the bowling he can be superb in the death and he can be excellent in the middle overs to . At

I need a leg spinner yuzi and piyush chawla are the best contention yes there is rashid khan but he has played only 8 ipl as of bow piyush and yuzi, i pick piyush only because he can bowl in the powerplay and he can bat a bit as well so I pick piyush chawla and 11. It has to be Slinga malinga he was the best foreign bowler this tournament has seen.
I just want to leave 7 based on my bowling, Because I had a choice between jadeja and hardik, to me narine , bhuvi piyush and malinga will give me 16 overs and yusuf, Raina and Watson can give me 6 overs atleast if I need a bolwer then I need to go with jadeja if I need a batsman I need to go with hardik toughest choice of all, but I have four spinners,so I will go with hardik pandya. Again tough to lose jadeja

What I felt about this:
Runs and wickets can be intemidating factors. When I see Gayle and Virat, sciring their majority runs in Chinnaswamy overshadows the deserving ones like Warner and Raina who have been a better batter based on conditions. Its tough to decide...

Because he is not a great opener. He makes the side weak honestly. You want Dhoni at the helm as he has been the most consistent captain.

Can someone please tell me which games did Hardik play and finish as a finisher? When I say finisher I mean coming at a point where the team was losing and he changed and played till the end and won. HE IS NOT A FINISHER. He is hardly an all rounder now.
Yusuf Pathan should be there, Hardik has not had much impact in the IPL. Just Harsha's recency bias.
