hardly plays for india? Do you even watch cricket?
He was the only player who gave us a small chance in the champions trophy 2017 final.. Won that key last over against bangladesh in icc t20(effective knockout) , pretty much the only guy who performed last year t20 semi final against england.. and the big knocks against pakistan in asia cup , ..even being the key reason behind winning the t20 series in australia few years ago. All this just at the top of my mind.. I understand people dont like his attitude etc.. but he has played some absolutely stellar innings for India. Fans like you have short term memory and it sucks to see that.

He's getting booed because he talked ill of MI for the 2 years he wasn't in MI, doesn't respect his teammates, hasn't done due diligence with Ro, Bumrah, sky. He also said the working of MI team and management is not something he is a fan of. Then why would you want to come back in the same set up?
Also the fact that Rohit was removed from captaincy when he was probably in the darkest time of his life after losing the World Cup final. Not to mention, him getting removed from captaincy put a question mark on his T20WC selection. It's baffling why would a management put the player who is responsible for the only success they have through this.

I think the most important point is being overlooked as if it was trivial. Pandya gave interviews in which he was clear about how MI team was built with "best players" to win the cups. He had this mindset, most likely he left MI or auctioned away to a new team so he can be a captain. Whether one is privy to the conditions for his return or not, it is quite evident what he has done to lead MI. Sure management might've thought of a successor, but there is SKY and Burma within MI team to take on the baton from Rohit. None of this happened. Rohit was unceremoniously removed via a post. If IPL teams are making money off of fans, (directly and indirectly) fans have every right to express their displeasure towards the decisions made. Sure, if one gets a better offer, one should take it. But doesn't mean that other will just be fine with it. Everyone will express the displeasure. People will call names and boo (one way or the other), even in corporate world. Pandya made a choice, now he is facing consequences. I think commentators have little right to ask fans to "behave" by any means. What is IPL without fans? where is the money coming from? sponsorships, media rights, advertising: all these are because of fans. If no one cares, there is not money. No money, no franchises. As simple as that. No matter what Pandya does, he will see the reactions from fans for his actions.

While I totally buy into your premises, what’s lost is RESPECT, Harsha and this is just my perspective.
    1) Hardik Pandya could have said, “Look. I will be back to MI. But make me Captain in the next cycle. Let me first gain RESPECT from the team and then take over. I know SKY and JB were prospects when I left to GT. But let me break the ice. Rohit is just too huge to just strip him of Captaincy. Let's Respect him.”
    2) Management could have said, “Yes. We agree Hardik. Thats classy! @Rohit - We respect you a lot for what you are and what you have done to franchisee but we are looking at succession. So we had to bring HP back. Groom Pandya this year. Let him take it forward from next year. Just be there for him and RESPECT his decisions. Btw, just go Blast the opponents as opener.” I am sure he would have agreed.
    3) Fans should have been informed “We want to give Rohit a final send off only as a Captain. Let us Support him. Let’s RESPECT his legacy”. I would have gladly come to stadiums fully in support of the decision.
    4) To SKY & JB before signing deal with HK - “We understand your situation and completely RESPECT your importance to this team. But, let’s build a team with your 2 as pivots. We want you all as One Family. You guys are irreplaceable and we RESPECT that. RESPECT each other and build on the legacy he’s leaving behind with Hardik.”
Was this novice level communication that hard? Given how things are unfolding, I am sure the management has not done any communication whatsoever. It looks like a one night decision.
Look what CSK did. They rolled back the Jaddu decision halfway through the season. Created a Succession plan with captaincy sessions / workshops for a whole season or so. Dhoni informed Rutu that you might have to take over anytime. Then Dhoni did a Dhoni. He gave Rutu the Captaincy just before the first match with him still being there for guidance. Now, even if CSK do not make for Playoffs, their fans are a happy bunch. This season is more about Dhoni’s final season and less about them defending the Championship! Ask their fans. They lost to DC and yet their fans reactions are a blockbuster. They just want to celebrate THE MAN. THE MYTH. THE LEGEND this season and get to business from the next cycle. How hard was that?
For booing HK. Yes, thats wrong, but how do we communicate to management or players that we are not with you on your decision? We do appreciate when things you do right comes off, don't we? Example, when Bhajji was appointed Captain, we were happy. Did we boo him? Today's the happenings are way worse than a high school drama! One day, We get rumours that Hardik is back and we were happy bunch.. Next day it happens but they remove a guy who created a legacy, which other franchises are just drooling over! To remove Rohit as Captain is when it hit the nerve with us fans. I am not for fan wars. But booing is just our way of saying to MANAGEMENT you are wrong on this.
“Its the AIR that we breath is the problem” once you said, Harsha, in an interview to Ashwin referring to the dark times in Indian Cricket. I think the AIR is not healthy in MI dressing room.
On that note, I take the 3 loss as a huge positive. It’s going to get the dressing room together and say “Come on! We are not that bad a team! Come what may, we are going to do better!” I see all 4 ( SKY included ) to come back stronger. The loss hurts the players more than fans. Sure it would create a communication between the seniors and lead to harmony in dressing room. What the management has not done, I would like to think these 3 losses would do.. HEAL.. #PeaceOut

    @mrityunjayjalan91 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +63

I think the main issue is the way the announcement of Hardiks captaincy was done by the MI management. The hand over clearly wasn't well communicated. Had there been a press conference with Rohit, Hardik and the management present with reasons being shared, I'm sure the fans wouldn't react like they have right now. While I would never boo a sportsman, I understand the fans sentiments. In franchise cricket, like the premiere league, the fans are much closer to the teams emotionally and the team belongs to them as much as it does to the owners. So when the fans are taken for granted, they will let their voices be heard. Its unfortunate that Hardik is at the receiving end of a problem clearly created by the Management due to its poor communication.

MI announced Hardik Pandya as captain on December 15, 2023. The World Cup final was played on November 19. Anybody who has worked in corporate knows that such major decisions and negotiations take much more than four weeks. Even in the IPL curtain raiser at cricbuzz, Harsha alluded to that fact that conversations must have began before the world cup.
This idea that Hardik did nothing wrong is absolutely ridiculous. Hardik put his own personal ambitions over respect for the Indian Cricket Team and fans in a World Cup year, why now should we be expected to forgive him as a ICT player? I don't agree with the personal abuse for his family members, but we reserve the right to respect and admire players based on their on-field and off-field actions. We are fans, not customers. The BCCI doesn't care for us, but we have the full right to expect better from our players.

Harsha, if you try honestly, you can see the reasons why fans are angry with Hardik Pandya.
    1. GT fans for obvious reasons feel betrayed.
    2. MI and Rohit fans feel that their very successful, loyal and illustrious captain was disrespected. Hardik should have foreseen this and how this would be perceived by MI fans, given Hardik was nurtured and flourished under Rohit.
    3. Hardik going above Bumrah & SKY in the pecking order and compensation.
    4. Hardik's fake demeanour and if off-field antics haven't resonated with fans which adds to the dislike amongst fans.
I agree that the MI management is to blame much more than Hardik, and a lot of this could have been avoided if they had managed & communicated this transition better.

To think of doing this to the franchise and to the captain who literally mentored you when you were nothing, is obnoxious! Then he talked shit about MI when he was in GT. Players join other franchises all the time, but in what world is this okay? Then he has the guts to join MI with a captaincy clause, uprooting Rohit Sharma. Yes, MI management is at fault too, but he should have been the one to reject it if he was doing fine in GT(because of Nehra ji imo). If it`s about ambition of being captain why not stay in GT? Rohit gave them 5 ipl tropies, nothing can justify the decision of sacking him.

I believe the perspective of MI fans comes from having witnessed the handling of Dhoni by their rival franchise CSK. For a captain who's had as much success, CSK management was so respectful that they left it entirely to Dhoni to make his own decision on his captaincy career and also plan for the franchise's succession. So obviously, considering the similarity in legacy created by Rohit, their fans thought that MI would do the same thing but instead MI went for Hardik all of a sudden which has now resulted in this disgruntlement.
But the thing is I never understood why they felt the need for Hardik in the first place. It wasn't like there were no all-rounders or that the team was unbalanced. Green was coming off nicely enjoying himself on the flat and bouncy Wankhede which was to his liking, tilak was establishing himself steadfastly as well. Also, it wasn't like there was no one else on the team who was leadership material with worthy candidates in Bumrah and SKY.
Honestly, it would've been a lot easier for them if they had left things as is, let Rohit continue, and let things take their natural course.
All in all, a huge blunder by the MI management.

Think both you and Ashwin are playing it too "politically correct" here. Your corporate analogy of accepting promotion is little misleading. Even in corporate world, a popular leader being replaced by ex-team member will cause friction amongst teams and eventual restructuring. Communication is key element missing here.
I am a CSK fan myself so won't try to justify this from MI fan standpoint. The issue I see is not why Hardik became MI captain but the way he was made a captain. As a franchise, you either have a responsibility to your fans or not. MI fans had been loyal and the brutal way Rohit was ejected was insulting to the fans who love the team. Boucher+Pandya press conference "silence" only added fuel to this fire. What MI has decided is to sacrifice a huge fan base , which in management terms is not too smart.
None of this would have happened if the communication was set right where Rohit was requested to hand off the captaincy gracefully to Pandya just like what Dhoni decided to do with Ruturaj. Here CSK fans knew where this decision was coming from. What Hardik is facing is "side-effects" of poor management and communication from MI -- that's a fan's right.

What experts don't know is the respect or lack of it that MI fans perennially had for Pandya bros when they were in the MI team previously, all due to their attitude and behavior (while piggybacking on performances of Pollard, SKY, and Bumrah). Check out the 2020, and 2021 trends. Fans who have much more respect for Bumrah and Sky, and would have happily accepted them as Captain.
No issues in joining back the old franchise or company but I am very sure MI management (except newcomer Boucher) mustn't be the one asking Hardik to lead after MI (after finishing 3rd under Rohit). But looks like Hardik was ambitious and eager to snatch the captaincy (Rishte mein to hum captain etc) this year itself. He overestimated himself and discounted the contributions of Nehra ji, Kristen ji, Rashid, Gill, etc. in GT success.
No doubt his PR is 100 times better than MS, Virat, or Rohit (players with whom he cannot be compared at least for now) but his acts show that he has zero respect for peers or seniors

Harsha is a Peacemaker so he wont question the Team Management why they didnt discuss properly with Rohit and why they are silent spectators of all these drama. If they dont want Rohit let them release him he would have joined another franchise or else even retire. Even now amidst all confusion, we see CSK fans welcoming Rohit and even RCB or other fans too all love Rohit since he is selfless and only he will be accepted by the fans as next generation SACHIN. Harsha must also talk how Hardik misbehaved with almost everyone and his immature laughing after losing a game is unpardonable for any die-hard MI fan that too at Wankhede.

Comparing this cricket incident with the corporate offer is totally different. This is a bizarre situation as a lot of emotion from fans and players is involved here. Rohit doesn't deserve what he got. Hardik doesn't deserve what he is getting now. Management clearly messed it up and Hardik's choice is not convincing. He is already head of Titans and he will be seen as a greater captain if he wins there again than if he wins with stacked players at Mumbai.

If Rohit to Hardik transition was smooth, Rohit should have posted something about it. The fact that Rohit is mum goes to show that he was not in agreement. The franchise prioritizing ‘successive planning’ over what their 5 time winning champion wants and what their fans want, has resulted in what all of us knew would happen - Chaos!!!

  • @GProck
    @GProck 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

"We don't know what the conversation may have been about" It's all quite speculative, isn't it?
    1. What is definitive is Pandya's lack of loyalty to GT (irrelevant of the big bucks that would have been offered, the man is already loaded with fame & money) The corporate culture analogy doesn't fit here as you don't have 1000s of fans cheering/supporting a CEO/Junior Mgr. when he changes companies wherein its a purely monetary/benefits/comforts choice.
By choosing to leave GT, he's already declared himself as some who can be swayed by money, which necessarily isn't a virtue you want to see in some1 who's gonna step into Rohit Sharma's shoes.
    2. His 2023 interview where he subtly denigrates MI (for buying Champion players) unlike CSK for creating the right atmosphere, which is apparently how he prefers is and how he's made GT a great team, doesn't help his cause. He now has proven that you can't completely trust his words as well by rejoining the very same team he was demeaning. The interview itself didn't sit well with MI fans as he was essentially patronising the franchise that made his career.
    3. All this combined with his inherent eccentricity & indifferent form makes him the ideal hate mongering magnet that he's evolved into. Ironically, while being emotionally fueled fans, we also have a short-sighted-results oriented memory and if MI start winning all this furore will trickle down to the sporadic tweet of dissension. He's inadvertently created a greedy, hypocritical & untrustworthy image of himself which are polarly opposite attributes of the outgoing captain Rohit Sharma.

Faf had at the time zero connection to RCB the franchise or even Bengaluru as a city, Hardik atleast had played for MI and had success but still got boeed. So what's the issue?. When the RCB transition happened it was very clearly conveyed to the fans that Virat had voluntarily stepped down for X ,Y ,Z reason and he has great relationship with faf , FANS WERE CONVINCED VIRAT WAS HAPPY WITH THE TRANSITION.
In MI's Case Fans had zero clue how Rohit felt about the transition, his wife's comment on the boucher video and skipping Questions at PCs worsened the situation. I know the franchise is not obligated to reveal anything to the fans but if Fans don't know, they will speculate and speculation takes ugly turns and unfortunately Hardik is at the wrong side of it.

Why are people just taking this as Rohit Vs Hardik Pandya. He is being booed across the country and not just in Mumbai or Gujrat. This is just a trigger, people have disliked Pandya because of his behavior for very long. He was the all rounder India was looking for and he exploited his position of power throughout his journey. We have loved the aggression from Kohli because that was backed by so much hard work and performance. Pandya on the other hand, has shown one of the worst attitudes towards the game. When we speak about players they represent Individuals but a captain represents the team, the management, the nation and lastly himself. People forgave him the last time he came on media giving crazy interviews on coffee with karan but post that there was a lot which was just tugged under the rug and now all of it is coming out. This hate is accumulated for a very long time. I agree that a few in the crowd are booing because its a trend. But if there are 100 people who followed a trend, there were thousands who genuinely are done with him.
We are also concerned as he is one of the top 3 prospects to Captain India along with Gill and Sky, is he the role model for our upcoming players ?and is he someone we look to represent India?
Lastly he right now has the perfect platform to outperform himself, pull the team back together and show the world that both on and off field he can be a better person.
I wish seniors would have told him to "Behave" when he sky rocketed to glory rather than asking the fans in the stadium.

Harsha, there are two important aspects that you perhaps missed. One of these is the media itself that wants a bout of this kind for its own progression. Secondly, the prime reason, if not the hidden contender, for this unfortunate Hardik episode is himself, who has clearly indicated self- replenishment as his priority over representing the country. Fans are not fools. They clearly see this with the Pandya brothers, and lately, the likes of Ishan and others (I remain silent here). Injury/illness has been used as a kind of armor by most of these members. The removal of Rohit from the MI captainship just coincided with the drama. The franchise owners should have phased Rohit out slowly by the next season. I would say Hardik is just facing a backlash of a lot of his self-doing again. However, Hardik is expected to play in the Indian Team as a pace all-rounder in the coming WC T20, and the fans should stop booing him and encourage him to perform better both in his cricket career as well as choice of actions off the field. Booing is not the answer for performance.

    Sorry Harsha, that’s wrong !
Hardik Pandya the player we love him, but the individual is the one who is getting the hate. He deserves it, not just because he has taken over the captaincy. Asking Tilak Verma to play slow when he is on 47 and finishing the game by hitting a six, again finishing a game when KL was in his 90’s. That talks abt how selfish and self-centred he is. He is everything good as a player but everything wrong as a leader. He is wrong influence for a team.
Your comparison previously between an IT job and Cricket - if that is fair, hear me out, I’d like to compare cricket with football, a sport with a sport much better than your comparison - there’s a concept of loyalty (where is that in Pandya?). Forget loyalty, if you had to transition captaincy, why not make Pandya player under Rohit for a season or two? This is unacceptable, Pandya deserves the treatment he is getting. Maybe not the language people are using, but if you care about language just go and hear the stump mic when Pandya was given the ball playing for India, he said to the fielders “mere time mujhe dekho, maa c#*#*#* gaya woh - referring to his captain”. You are trying to defend this man for whatever reason !

    1) Hate for Hardik comes naturally, though I personally agree that he has done nothing wrong by taking up this position. But, there are definitely chances that he urged to be back in MI only on a condition to become captain.
    2) Rohit is emotion for MI fans! He was an incredible leader, shown MI those golden days. And now, being treated like this by MI management is the biggest issue here. He will always remain best captain of MI
    3) MI Management is the biggest culprit here. Obviously they thought about succession planning, but with a very bad implementation plan! Look how swiftly & with love CSK did the leadership change. Do we hear hatred for Ruturaj? Ofcourse, personality of the captain matters, too.
    4) It is obvious that SKY & Bumrah are unhappy. Players who were looked upon as successors in MI are suddenly sidelined. Did MI management do at least due diligence to inform these seniors?

Harsha the great analyst is sadly giving a (paid) lie when he says he has no clue why Hardik is getting booed. Hardik backstabbed Rohit and guys like you and Ashwin come and say dont boo Hardik as he is India player... Question is when Hardik plays for India as compared to IPL and he was greedy to backstab his India captain.... So dont blame fans as I am proud fans are giving strong message here to Hardik and MI Mgmt...

Harsha… I have seen this corporate analogy being used by others too … I don’t think this passes the smell test .. in corporate when being hired for a leadership role by ex employer two things are 1> the employer ensures that there is a amicable transition and also 2> as a ex employee Tis my job to ensure that this transition has been communicated or insist on a tri party meeting before signing off and or even have a direct conversation with the incumbent leader ( ex mentor ..am assuming this based on the way you described Rohit Sharma as a leader) to ensure amenability …. Isn’t that the hallmark of a potential leader … lastly dosent his reflect very poorly on the management and their advisors ( Am sure you know them personally) The top consulting firms usually hire leaders internally to ensure smooth transition .. Your thoughts ????
PS: I have been in corporate hiring for 25 years and this clearly indicates a “Seth mentality or Sethani in this case …😇

What could captain Rohit do if management kept picking substandard teams in auction ?
Yes, owners can decide who is made captain, but the fans also have some say. It is MI, not AI. Name the team AI and do what you want.
Dont call it MI if you cant consider M's opinions.
RCB should buy Rohit next year and make him captain and win it finally. Considering the Impact Player rule, he still has a good 5 years in him.

The biggest issue is that everyone takes the fans for granted and it is great to see fans getting united and protesting this change. This is a great lesson for any player who plays at this level to not just think about money and respect the emotions associated with the fans. Hardik had everything up until last year but he kept getting greedy and has potentially committed a career suicide. The only way hardik can make up for it now is if he steps down as captain, accepts his mistake and apologises.

I think if there is unrest within MI team, it is team management at the fault. What are they doing? Isn't it their responsibility to communicate their plans to key players in the team by taking them in confidence? Also I am baffled by MI team management, how they go about auctions, after , they go after one player and spend huge amount of money on him, like they did crazily for Jofra Archer and Ishan Kishan. This is really uncharacteristic of their owner company (Reliance) 😅😅

How can we say a player ambitious if he plays only IPL without injuries....while playing for india he will automatically get injuries......what i feel is playing for india gives less money instead of that he's chosen doing ads and promotions which is giving him more money....you are more experienced harsha if you see clearly observes the way hardik talks and his actions on the field compared to rohit , virat....Hardik achieved less but he act's like he's superior than legends of cricket....No matter how much poor you are at the start of your life once you become rich you need to be humble which we don't find that in hardik....Hardik said in one of interviews "MI bought all the superstars to play for them which results in winning" is Bumrah , Hardik , Ishan , Tilak , Madhwal and even Madhwal are superstars when they were initially bought by MI they were backed couple of seasons after that they reached to that level....Hardik conveyed this message like he won the ipl with middle class team...that middle class team contains Rashid khan , williamson , Gill , Miller , Shami , Tewatia , Ferguson , sudharsan.....lot of people saying why hate only for hardik ....hate is for both management + hardik as management not in the field they are not receiving it otherwise they also will get same response.....He knows Rohit Sharma is not stepped down as a captain yet and lot of seniors in the team but still he accepted it...i don't think he had a chat with rohit before accepting the offer as per press meet few day before....selfish people get deserved things harsha nature gives back what they deserve...so we don't need to worry of what's happening...don't say that MI don't reach playoffs much last 2-3 years everyone who follows ipl completely they definitely knows the reason behind it..it's because MI lost most of the big players with injuries.....MS is 42 still CSK backing him...at 41 as a captain MS won the ipl.....i still not able to understand what's the problem with MI Management....Rohit Sharma mostly will play for another 3-4 years..Hope MI don't retain Rohit Sharma in 2025 we don't need that..we all fans want HITMAN to play for some other franchise as captain and helping them successful

People would not have had an issue with Hardik if he would nit have disrespected the franchise and his mentors at Mumbai. From the Superstar team jibe, to the CSK statement.. makes him a turncoat in the eyes of the fan, an opportunistic individual who would say and do things that are the flavor of the season

With all due respect to you Sir, you are addressing why its done and we as fan has problem with ‘how’ its done. If management ask Rohit to step down with proper discussion and Rohit Sir comes and declare the strategy behind it then we would be ok with this change. It seems that MI management decided without even Rohit’s consent.

The main reason for the hate is the way this "transfer" took place. If they had acquired Hardik in an auction and then announced that they are making Hardik captain, I don't think the fans would have reacted this badly. The way they did it, it seems like some shady politics being played behind the scene.

2022 Mumbai Indians were at the bottom of the table and 2023 they somehow miraculously managed to be in the top 4. Now with all this chaos, they are only going downhill from here n it will take them many years to revive.if the management doesn't intervene,Mumbai Indians can never win another title.

Honestly, fans have short term memory. If they had just not choked and had won against GT, the booing would have gone by itself. I find it a bit alarming that they have so little faith in Tim David's ability to play spin that in two matches they protected him while the spinners were bowling.

Your analogy to bring back CEO back is welcome . But the booing also has an analogy akin to investors . Emotionally invested fans would boo (same as selling the stocks ) if the board did not do its job well .

The biggest problem is the miscommunication between the management, HP and the other senior players. The first thing they should have done is have a proper conversation internally and then announce to the fans in a proper way with all the players being wholeheartedly involved in the decision.

I'm not sure if the analogy is entirely apt here. I know this is a business but its not a traditional business and you cannot run it as such. MI management has made a blunder here. Rohit can very well lead the team until the end of next cycle. He deserved better treatment for all that he has given. Dhoni is no longer the dangerous batsman he once was but CSK is still winning titles. Fans generate their revenues and MI management should have expected this and kept fans in their mind too when making their decision. Hardik also shares some blame.
