As always, thanks for uploading. I don't mind the Rossi/Wickens crash. Rossi was clearly at fault, but it was a racing incident. What bothers me is that Rossi doesn't want to take any blame and somehow acted like Wickens was at fault. Man up!
The racing God's handed IndyCar a very nice token yesterday. A great looking new car, an exciting race, and a finish that you could have never imagined. We have a new underdog to root for with Wicked Wickens. And boring Rossi is now the quiet villain. NICE!
Timi Akinlonu just started watching this and I have to agree, F1 has too many races where nothing exciting takes place it seems. Nobody gains position on anyone, seems like the same few people always win
That’s why I’ve started watching. F1 has become even more split among who the fastest cars are along the lines of money. Every race is essentially Merc vs Ferrari and Red Bull.
I watch forumla one since ever and like it, but its more about the engineers. Indycar clearly is about the drivers. I like both and wish formula one would move the focus a bit more in the direction of the drivers. Whats the point in having the fastest cars in the world if they can't drive behind each other close without wrecking the tires?!
"F1 cars still look better???" Seriously? I can't believe it. My opinion is Indycar this year is much better looking than F1. F1 are quite horrible. But the best looking open wheel car ever is Lola Indycar around 1993-95
Is it me or does ESPN/ABC coverage not so good. The scrolling timing and scoring on the top bar, rather than listed on the side of the screen, hard to keep track of?
Loved the race, the new car really demonstrates who the good drivers are and who was utilizing the down force of the old one to just aim it around a track.
T T Amateurish? Even a veteran driver with a chance like him would take that chance. It’s called racing hard for the win. If anything it shows how much he wanted to win and I love that in a driver
lol. I guess its hard to read, K Ben24. I said the MOVE....nothing about Rossi's drive in the overall race or Qualy. I get the need to want to win, but He tried way too hard and you see the result. Wickens gave him room when turning in and Wickens took the normal racing line. Both would have been fine if Rossi Braked correctly.
Indycar has become very interesting again. The highlights were well worth watching and I hope that they push hard to get the product out there so we can watch it.
I loved how the rookies were great in this race, in the opener, in the city I live in and have followed Wickens since he started in DTM, and Matheis. In tired of watching the same old ones hate to say but now we are actually getting to see how euro open wheelers compare to the us but Wickens from dtm was awesome!
Robert Wickens is a familiar name to me because of the DTM series that I watch once every so often. I was not aware of his open-wheel history. I was very impressed with him & he definitly earn evetyone's respect after this event. Even though one of my guys won & he led the second most laps, I do feel bad for Wickens because he should have won. Beware Alexander Rossi, aggressive driving like that can make the fans turn against you...
Rossi late braked that corner (a little too late) and was fish tailing into that turn so he initially owns the blame for the accident. That being said, Wickens clamped down on the corner a little too much and cut off Rossi's line so he also owns some of the blame. Not saying he (wickens) needed to hand the lane to Rossi, but he should have swung a little wider to try and avoid the collision. I will add that even if wickens had given Rossi proper room in the corner I feel Rossi's slide would have collected wickens anyway so outcome would have likely been the same. Its just that wickens could have (in my opinion) avoided any responsibility for his being taken out. Shame, cause he ran a great race and it would have been great to see a rookie win!
Steve Brothers racing incident to me. Rossi’s pass was ugly but good. Wickens forgot to push push to pass, then left the inside wiiiide open, even drifted to his left even more. Then closed the door at the apex. Rookie mistake, and he got bossed
Synystr7 ahhhh...but it IS the driver in front's job to be sure he doesn't slam the door at the apex when another driver's nose is already in there. Doing so, guaranteed his race ending crash. "Cutting off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind. Again....I'm not condoning Rossi's move. He was overly confident and miscalculated his pass.
Didn't realize Castroneves was doing IMSA full time. Saw his name in the Daytona 24 results and just assumed he was one of the third drivers teams have to bring on for the longer races.
Well, thanks to Miller and Pruett, and now IndyCar, I've become a fan again.(Except for the 500, been awhile!) Great racing, and those guys were actually " wheelin' " those cars around there. I think IndyCar is heading in the right direction. Seems like it's a good time to pick off some NASCAR fans, too.
On the highest downforce tracks they should be slower but only a little. They were faster here bc they fixed turn 3 over the off season. Some of the higher speed ovals may be faster.
John Hodges so is this car really an upgrade or downgrade ? I mean formula 1 cars are faster than ever on the other hand these indycars are getting slower .
Look at it as an upgrade. The drivers asked for this, the manufacturers asked for and agreed to this, the fans asked for this. Even if the cars aren't two seconds faster this year, almost everyone so far has said the new car is what they asked for.
Watched the race live on sunday on ABC but these cars look SO F'n GOOD i felt like watching a condensed replay the race. Not since ChampCar/CART folded have I watched an American Open Wheel race twice until now . From canada and not happy, Wickens got screwed out of a win, True Canadian Style, didn't freak out and I wanted to freak for him. If he was a few seasons in I think he would have smashed some heads ,needs Paul Tracy to mentor. He got totally robbed of an amazing opportunity. But it was still incredibly entertaining and love the cars
Whoever blamed Rossi for that late collision is no seeing. Rossi had the line deep in, Wickins closed the door waaaay to late. Without contact Rossi would have made it. Wickets is at fault.
Ultimate23Dragon I like your videos. But no, in my dream setup, you have bestwick, macreynolds, and Joy all complimenting each other. Darrel Waltrip retires
The driver stalling on the track is very annoying, please add anti stall system or a onboard starter and get rid of the fuel saving as well, btw, why don't race at circuit of the Americas and Laguna saga?
Great racing again, Indycars! This is a fine circuit but needs some fixing, namely turn 1. It's unnecessary slippery with all that paint. Maybe a right-left chicane just before it, or a bit longer straight ending with a hairpin. Anything to avoid braking on that slippery surface. It just ruins the passing opportunities there when the racing gets hard.
Felix Seven89 Supposedly they usually grind the paint to provide extra grip, but they didn't this year. It's worked before and it'll work again if they do.
The debris at 9:44 was not "carbon fiber from a race car" as Scott Goodyear reported.....it was a tool tray left on the 4 car after their pit stop. Ironically, the 4 car hit the wall right in that same area the next lap. Oops. FWIW I agree with the no-call on the 27/6 incident at the end. Rossi did what racers do and lost it in the process. Racers gonna race.
You watched the same race as us right? Also I wasn't aware that winning 2 races makes you a racing God. He's right to call the move an amateur one. Rossi over drove the corner completely. Wickens left enough room for a Buick to fit through and Rossi still slid into him, totally out of control. Should have easily DQ'ed him but can't damage the reputation of a golden boy now can we?
According to you a Buick can fit in less than a foot width? At apex he squeezed Rossi to the curbing and payed the price for it, and that's after he clearly was moving in reaction to Rossi pulling out for the pass while they were still on the front straight which forced Rossi to move even further inside before braking. It was a low % move by Rossi, but some of the blame clearly falls on Wickens.
Now you know why wickens beat rossi when they raced in europe. Wickens faster than rossi whole race, was pulling away at the end but got screwed by yellows. Rossi ran out of talent trying to pass in the marbles, wrong guy spun.
You can't brake that late and that hot on the paint in that corner, last laps or no. We all watched the exact same thing happen with Graham Rahal on lap 7. Rossi was sliding out of control well before he made contact with Wickens, and should have known better. Official blame or no, that was poor judgment from a "veteran" and it cost Wickens a race that he had earned all weekend. Rossi was probably just pissy because the kid beat him in Formula Renault back in 2011.
ESPN does such a crappy job. They bombarded us with commercials, the commentary was average at best (the only highlight being Helio). There is little to no behind the scenes reporting, and no post race ... wtf? They rush interviewed Seb (still in his car) then go off air...??? Please please bring back NBC! omg I just realized ESPN is do g F1 this year too... 🤬😡☹️
Blame College Basketball, not ABC/ESPN. At least they did an interview. I remember a College Basketball game pre-empting a race on FOX for 30 minutes to the point when we started watching the race, it was already 19 laps in.
There was an opening and Rossi put his nose there (They were side by side when the crash happened). Wickens could have taken a wider turn (It's turn 1 at St Pete for pete's sake) to avoid the crash. This is a racing incident though and though.
Poor Wickens indeed. While not an eye for an eye person, I thought Rossi should have been penalised. One might say he had to attempt a pass but it could equally be said and factually, that he was out of control at that corner and slid into Wickens, ruining the Canadian's race.
STEVEN1987 hopefully next time he remembers to push push to pass, and pinch or take the insane lane. Not leave the inside completely open and then close the door right at the apex. Good but ugly pass by Rossi
As someone just getting into the indycar series... could they have more boring commentators?! Geez there is zero energy or enthusiasm listening to these guys.
Kevin Dulude-Maher They're gone untill they get to Indianapolis and then stay away after Detroit the weekend after the 500. A much better team courtesy of NBC replaces them the rest of the season.
Wickens forgot to push push to pass, left the door wiiiiiiiiiide open, then close it at the apex. Rossi’s pass was good. So GLAD BOURDAIS WON!!!!!! #sealmasterbourdais
Wickens was making reactionary moves to block and squeezing anyone that got along side of him nearly off the track or into barriers, so he got what he deserved.
Poor Wickens. What a weekend he had.
I'm all for "less penalties, let them drive", but I gotta ask: did that lead to a penalty? He basically got wrecked for no reason.
Right? He had an incredible race, and then Rossi fucked him, completely fucked him
As always, thanks for uploading. I don't mind the Rossi/Wickens crash. Rossi was clearly at fault, but it was a racing incident. What bothers me is that Rossi doesn't want to take any blame and somehow acted like Wickens was at fault. Man up!
Rossi , learned all the bad tricks in Europe of course, buckle up because it's going to be a bumpy ride , should be black flagged ,for thuggish move
Rossi never wants to own up when he makes a mistake
I love these "new" cars. They are alot harder to drive and the drivers with real car control are going to stand out .
There seemed to be a lot fewer marbles on the circuit, and a lot more off-line moves on parts of the circuit that don't normally see those. Good show.
My first time watching Indycar at St. Petersburg boy was it fun This just gets me more excited for Phoenix but I feel very sorry for wickens
The racing God's handed IndyCar a very nice token yesterday. A great looking new car, an exciting race, and a finish that you could have never imagined. We have a new underdog to root for with Wicked Wickens. And boring Rossi is now the quiet villain. NICE!

F1 is faster and the cars still look better but I do think Indycar is better overall though from a spectator pov.
I watch forumla one since ever and like it, but its more about the engineers. Indycar clearly is about the drivers. Is it me or does ESPN/ABC coverage not so good. The scrolling timing and scoring on the top bar, rather than listed on the side of the screen, hard to keep track of?
Uomo Colto it’s absolutely horrible
They need to go away from the NASCAR-ish broadcast style they have now.
Looked like a freaking NASCAR race the last few laps. All they needed was a couple of overtime restarts and a few more wrecks and cautions.
Loved the race, the new car really demonstrates who the good drivers are and who was utilizing the down force of the old one to just aim it around a track.
thank you, great highlight
Rossi looked amateurish with that move in the end. Shame for Wickens who worked hard all weekend.....
T T Amateurish? Even a veteran driver with a chance like him would take that chance. It’s called racing hard for the win. If anything it shows how much he wanted to win and I love that in a driver
I think every driver made that mistake at least once during that race
Wickins left the door wide open then close it at the apex of the turn. You don’t even do that in Karts. Wickens got bossed.
12th to 3rd in 10 laps is amateurish?? Rossi would've dominated this race if he didn't get screwed in qualifying.
lol. I guess its hard to read, K Ben24. I said the MOVE....nothing about Rossi's drive in the overall race or Qualy. I get the need to want to win, but He tried way too hard and you see the result. Great edit! Look forward to following this year 👍🏼
what a good race it was!
Looking back on this season Wickens should have won at least 2 races before his devestating crash at Pocono
Thanks a lot!
Hélinho se saiu muito bem como comentarista, mas prefiro ele na pista.
Rossi doing what he do best. Kamikaze moves.
Robert Wickens is a familiar name to me because of the DTM series that I watch once every so often. I was not aware of his open-wheel history. I was very impressed with him & he definitly earn evetyone's respect after this event.

So much better than Formula1
Thank you for uploading. If it's at all feasible live stream would be amazing as it's not on tv here in the UK.
SlowBloke the full race will be uploaded later on IndyCar's channel
August Watring for sure it's appreciated but there's no replacement for a live broadcast.
SlowBloke you're right about that. I think in the UK BT sport has the broadcasts.
Kyle Broflovski nope have sky sports and bt as well. It was not live on bt Sunday evening.
the ESPN races are and will be, but not the NBCSN ones afaik

and by doing so had a big head of steam going into the next set pulling away from seabass who would have definitely passed rossi.
Steve Brothers racing incident to me. Rossi’s pass was ugly but good. Wickens forgot to push push to pass, then left the inside wiiiide open, even drifted to his left even more. Then closed the door at the apex. Rookie mistake, and he got bossed

nobody getting bossed... he left enough room on the inside... Rossi just ran out of talent. thats all.
Someone please give Connor Daly a ride!
Poor Wickens
ESPN was wrong (shocking) about Bourdais' wins. He's got 37 career wins, but five are on ovals, not three (Lausitz, Las Vegas x2, Milwaukee x2).
It's going to be a real good year of racing . Lots of hungry young rookies.
Didn't realize Castroneves was doing IMSA full time. Saw his name in the Daytona 24 results and just assumed he was one of the third drivers teams have to bring on for the longer races.

OK Indycar on roadcourses is nice i wish it was in free tv in Europe though.
Ghost Gaming where do u live? In the netherlands its on tv
Germany it is in pay tv here
Ghost Gaming dass ist bedauerlich
Great race, horrible broadcast, come on NBC.
Thankfully NBCSN (hopefully Bell, Tracy, and Diffey) are calling most of the races.
TheUsmc1488 believe you mean ESPN/ABC
COME ON! They got freaking ALLEN BESTWICK! They should be better!
TheUsmc1488 almost unwatchable. ABC is a joke
Matthew Doan Even Allen can’t help. If only he was still with NBC.
Agreed, so bad in so many ways. Amateur for the likes of both ESPN and abc
I have heard that these 2018 cars have less downforce , so are these cars slower than 2017 cars around these tracks ?
Nope. The track record was broken during qualifying. They are slower in the corners but faster on the straights.
On the highest downforce tracks they should be slower but only a little.
They were faster here bc they fixed turn 3 over the off season.
Some of the higher speed ovals may be faster.
Slower oin the corners, but waaay faster on the straights. Like the 90’s cars.

Can FOX please hire bestwick for NASCAR?
Why? So Darrell can interrupt him every 3 words?
Ultimate23Dragon I like your videos. But no, in my dream setup, you have bestwick, macreynolds, and Joy all complimenting each other. Darrel Waltrip retires
That'd be neat, but I don't think FOX would want 2 lead announcers.
The driver stalling on the track is very annoying, please add anti stall system or a onboard starter and get rid of the fuel saving as well, btw, why don't race at circuit of the Americas and Laguna saga?
Why do the commentators not talk at the start?

Well yeah, that's first thing I thought. Why wouldn't they do something like that? It's winter's end so you're gonna be refreshing the paint anyway :D

FWIW I agree with the no-call on the 27/6 incident at the end. Rossi did what racers do and lost it in the process. Racers gonna race.
Wickens left Rossi way too much space at the end of the main straight. Rossi had to go for it.
What are the commentators doing during those awkward silences? NBC, you're paying them too much.
Edit: ABC, got a lapsus.
Sweet pass Rossi, I do the same thing in video games. Amateur.
You watched the same race as us right? Also I wasn't aware that winning 2 races makes you a racing God. He's right to call the move an amateur one.

Scott Dixon's car looks like a tide pod
No wonder I wanted to eat it all weekend!
Now you know why wickens beat rossi when they raced in europe. Wickens faster than rossi whole race, was pulling away at the end but got screwed by yellows. Rossi ran out of talent trying to pass in the marbles, wrong guy spun.
who ever is rotating the on-board cams... please stop already! make them fixed again.
Heartbroken for Wickens!

Still waiting on that avoidable contact penalty call there IndyCar... If Dixie gets dinged for it for taking out Sato, why not Rossi?
I fell sorry, Wickens
ESPN does such a crappy job. They bombarded us with commercials, the commentary was average at best (the only highlight being Helio). Throwing shade at F1 there lol
ABC is horrible. We want NBC/NBCSN for every race!
Khristian4444 yes they are, they can't cover racing
They are okay, but the NBCSN crew are much more enjoyable.
flutgos amén!
There was an opening and Rossi put his nose there (They were side by side when the crash happened). Wickens could have taken a wider turn (It's turn 1 at St Pete for pete's sake) to avoid the crash. This is a racing incident though and though.

My heart goes out to Robert Wickens he should have won that race. Hopefully Rob will payback Rossi for that move.
STEVEN1987 hopefully next time he remembers to push push to pass, and pinch or take the insane lane. Not leave the inside completely open and then close the door right at the apex. Good but ugly pass by Rossi
easleyrider I didn't think they could use push to pass on restarts???
STEVEN1987 indycar enabled it.
STEVEN1987 They can in the final laps, which this was definitely.
Everyone that hates Rossi now, prepare yourselves for a long season. He's gonna win a lot
*crash a lot
Fixed that for ya.
2018 champion, telling you, its gonna hurt more if you start hating him
He certainly wins the title of most overrated past Indy winner
Hmkls You can't beat Buddy Lazier on that front.
Rossi, do you miss F1?? that´s why you´re not there..... Bravo for Robert Wickens!!!! and Seb
Wow, Formula 2 Level
The very definition of robbed!
Please no punterino Rossi!!!
Rossi needs to own up like a man. Hard racing or not it was unnecessary with 2 laps left.
Lotta 'road-skating' going on out there....
WHY ROSSI WHY man Robert should. Have won too many restarts
that menards paint scheme is just an eye sore for some reason.
As someone just getting into the indycar series... could they have more boring commentators?! Geez there is zero energy or enthusiasm listening to these guys.
