I originally wanted to be a L&D nurse too! I went into nursing school because I wanted to work with babies, but I quickly realized that bedside nursing is not for me. Luckily I found out about the OR and I love it! I can't wait to start once I graduate from nursing school next spring!
Watching this and every OR nurse video on youtube in preparation for my OR nurse fellowship lolol. Starting off in the OR as a new grad and I’m so excited😊
pleasae make a video discussing how you learn so many different cases or get into a geeneral OR not just ortho or spine for example. i feel like doing general or would give alot more future oppurtuniites ...also the program you refer to is it a periop 101 program?
Thanks for sharing this I just started OR nursing 4th day of orientation and I’m a fresh new grad nurse everything is so different I kinda feel discouraged but I’m gonna stick with it and see how I like it.
Definitely stick with it! It takes 6-12 months to really feel like you even have a clue when it comes to OR nursing. Promise with time it’ll all click 🙂
I am so happy I saw this today. I just started on L&D, not a new nurse, and feel like its not for me. I thought I would love it and this was where I should be. I applied for an OR position today hoping I get it.
Hey! I just started L&D too but as a new grad (almost off orientation). It definitely not what I thought it was and looking forward to apply to OR once I can. Glad I’m not the only one! Hope you got the job! 😃
Renee Romeo Hi!! That’s so awesome! Congrats on the next step into a new speciality :) My advice is to be adaptable, and have a wide open learning attitude! The OR is soo different, so what you’ve learned nursing skills will of course be applied, but the flow and way of the surgeons are much much different from the floor! Congrats again and good luck!
Hi! Thank you for this video...im really having a difficult time deciding where to start as a new grad....trying to decide between labor and delivery and the Operating room....i have a question what advancement opportunities for nurses are there as far as for master degree? Also how long in as a new grad u felt u were comfortable as an operating room nurse? 🌸
Hi hun! I completely understand where you’re coming from. Originally thinking I was going to do L&D as well! As far as advancement in the operating room with a masters, you can always move up to a clinical coordinator role, nurse manager, and even director. There’s also the direction of becoming a Surgical Assistant or an RN First Assist if that’s something you’re interested in! And when it comes to being comfortable, I was able to be on my own after training fine but the comfortability does take some time! I would say about a year. Such good questions xo
Jaden Andrews Aw thanks so much! As far as Periop 101, you’ll have to wait until you officially pass your NCLEX and then find a hospital orientation class that offers in the OR! And you can 100% become an OR nurse with an Associates. I actually started out as a diploma nurse!
Hey girl! I personally Circulate Only. I have scrubbed in the past but just on small cases, and once I started traveling I rarely get the opportunity to try to pick that back up. As far as transitioning from assignment to the next, it definitely takes some practice!! LOL. I would say after about the 3rd, maybe 4th change you for sure get into a great rhythm!

Natalie Rose Thats so awesome! I’m glad you found a little corner of the nursing world that’s so right for you! 🤗

Hi! I start Periop 101 next week. I’m transitioning from medsurg nursing to operating room. Any tips for a newbie?

Love your personality!!! I’m starting my OR residency in October! This will be my very first nursing job!
I know I want to be an OR nurse, so I hope I can find an internship program.
Highly recommend!! Does your local hospital have one you can apply to?!
@@MikaelaWashington they all have them, but one is a magnet hospital, haven’t heard about the competitiveness of the others.

Hello Can you start periop 101 while in nursing school? And can you become an OR nurse with an Associates degree? I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL

How easy is it as a travel nurse to transition from assignment to assignment? And are you a circulator or a scrub?
