I HAVE A MID 2012 MacBook Pro I called AppleCare and told them as a disclaimer that this computer may bot be under warranty because I got this from a friend and they was ok with helping me. I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND YOU HELPED ME. Apple was very pleased that this troubleshooting technique worked. 1) make sure your keyboard is plugged-in. 2) you may have a bad connection on the HD. (I have repaired MANY systems where the connector was bad, or the connector wasn't plugged-in all the way.
Mine it’s getting stuck as I log in and it’s trying to start its getting stuck like at %99 percent right before the screen opens up. It doesn’t go all the way up to 100.
OMG - You saved me with this video. I was convinced my MacBook Air (2012) was toast. Stuck in boot loop hell. Could not get to internet recovery. It would start and then go to a warning triangle (apple/support under it). I tried every trick (Command, option, shift, P, S,R) for the last 4 days and nothing worked. Was shopping for a new Air all day and ready to bite the bullet. BUT, your video where you said to hold the Command R key down a long time was what got me to the repair part and internet recovery. I guess I was not holding it down long enough. All my stuff (favs, iTunes) is still on it. 30 minutes and counting. Almost ready for it to crash and burn again like it is too good to be true. With the help of this tutorial video, I restored my Mac to it’s previous OS. I tried the last resort method. Thank you so much.
After trying all of the previous 3-4 fixes to no avail, the Disk Utility repair worked for me. It took a while. I gave up waiting for it and took a nap. When I awoke-Presto! Problem solved! Thank you very much!

I was almost lost when the command R button didn’t bring up the utility screen but I was determined so I did command, option , P, R upon boot up after hard reset then another hard reset and command, option, R. I held it during bootup and it took me to a internet recovery screen with a 3D world spinning. Then it allowed me to connnect to WiFi and next cane the utility screen!!! Then I hit restore to reinstall software waited about 10min or less and voila! It worked!!! Thank you!!!

This worked to turn it on! Mine ended up being a hard drive cable that was the issue. I’d recommend just taking it your local computer shop so you don’t accidentally erase or delete all your data!
None of these are working... what should I do? No matter which way I do it, it just gets stuck on the booting up screen, whether it stops at some point or just stays at 100% and does nothing. Thanks for your help. My daughter is a medical student and a frozen Mac is not good! We went through the first few cycles but reached the welcome screen ( as though for a new Mac) when we tried to access the OS. At first the cycle to get to a safe boot and then restart didn't work but when we repeated we managed to get the Mac operating again.

I turned it off out of frustration and started using another system in my house. I went back a few days later turned it on and voilà, it was working again. Sorry, I wish I could tell you more.
@@maggie642 As someone who has a computer certification, I only learned the following reasons to the spinning ball of death (pinwheel): - Bad hardware - Bad application - Look in the console log for further details of the issue I'm sure there can be other reasons to this but these are by far the most common ones.

i've had no luck so far, i think the HD is beyond recovery but a note to others getting stuck when the reinstallation of os x tries to update to sierra. You might not be able to make such a big jump in os x. to install the osx that was on the machine already hold down shift + option/alt + command + R and restart the machine. This forces an installation of the version of os x that was on your machine. More info below. Hope it helps someone.

This guy is good! Really Good. No offense, but it is refreshing to have some speak English and I can understand. (This no offense to those great people who try to help!!) I can not get the mac to work- yet- However, many times it is my fault and not knowing to release buttons.... This guy also is very confident and seems to know what he is doing. I almost had it last week from following him. If he reads the comments: A and A+ when I fix it which I am confident I will.
A couple of things. For starters, my keyboard died months ago so I hate when videos discuss clicking as if we are using an Apple keyboard. The second thing is, my IMAC was loading about half way or more before it would go slow and take a long time to reach end of load bar but never boot up. Now when I tried to do as you suggested, it loads only a short way on the bar and then the screen goes completely black.......basically shuts itself down.
I’ve tried everything and nothing is working.. when I do the disk first aid it says that repairing the volume has failed.. EVERYTIME! Please tell me what I can do!
KJ_Edits in that case You need to restore your MacBook, I think that's the only option option you'll lose everything but your MacBook will be Virgin again

Update: I took my iMac to the Apple store, got an appointment (FREE) they showed me how to transfer all my data off my mac to an external hard drive, now I am going to go back to wipe and reinstall Sierra OS. Their advice "Don't update your OS to the newest version, don't be the guinea pig It's made for the latest technology available," I was running High Sierra which basically overwhelmed my 2012 iMac. Target disk mode: Hold "T" on startup, which turns your mac into a hard drive and does not boot the OS, allows the transfer of files from old mac. (I did not need to login or anything).
Mine reaches halfway very fast and slows down... then it stops at the very end i tried all of them except then last one... i am about to try that now and just saying dont read more told ya Xd XD XD XD XD XD

Lizbeth Martin i went to apple store they told me that it can't be fixed. The hard disk is damaged. If i want them to fix it I will loose all the data. 😢
You could remove your hard disk and possible get an external enclosure to then use another computer to copy your data onto a healthy hard drive. I don't know if this will work though..

This guy is good! Really Good. No offense, but it is refreshing to have some speak English and I can understand. (This no offense to those great people who try to help!!) I can not get the mac to work- yet- However, many times it is my fault and not knowing to release buttons....
This guy also is very confident and seems to know what he is doing. I almost had it last week from following him. If he reads the comments: A and A+ when I fix it which I am confident I will.
I've done all of this and I'm still stuck at the 100% complete loading bar at the startup after my restore. This is so frustrating.

A couple of things. For starters, my keyboard died months ago so I hate when videos discuss clicking as if we are using an Apple keyboard. The second thing is, my IMAC was loading about half way or more before it would go slow and take a long time to reach end of load bar but never boot up. Now when I tried to do as you suggested, it loads only a short way on the bar and then the screen goes completely black.......basically shuts itself down.
I’m so frustrated with my MAC. It’s stock on the loading bar. I have left it load for 30 minutes, however it didn’t open

For a NON iMac keyboard. What would be the equivalent to the “command key”?
Tried them all and none work. Keeps loading until the bar is full then stuck there.

Awesome troubleshooting. Quick and easy. NVRAM reset worked for me.
When i select Macintosh HD -i do not get the same options. I tried the menu > File > run first aid...it gives error as Repair failed

Safe mode worked for me, as the upgrade was incomplete hence, boot-up error. thanks for video! It solved a my headache

KJ_Edits in that case You need to restore your MacBook, I think that's the only option option you'll lose everything but your MacBook will be Virgin again

Update: I took my iMac to the Apple store, got an appointment (FREE) they showed me how to transfer all my data off my mac to an external hard drive, now I am going to go back to wipe and reinstall Sierra OS. Their advice "Don't update your OS to the newest version, don't be the guinea pig It's made for the latest technology available," I was running High Sierra which basically overwhelmed my 2012 iMac.
Target disk mode: Hold "T" on startup, which turns your mac into a hard drive and does not boot the OS, allows the transfer of files from old mac. (I did not need to login or anything).
At Last ooops! At least you saved you hard drive. Cheers ;)

Lizbeth Martin i went to apple store they told me that it can't be fixed. The hard disk is damaged. If i want them to fix it I will loose all the data. 😢
You could remove your hard disk and possible get an external enclosure to then use another computer to copy your data onto a healthy hard drive. I don't know if this will work though..
