Ariana Murillo usually no, but it depends! Me for example, peanut butter triggers breakouts for me, but avocados don’t! I think you have to test some foods out to see what they do to your skin
RavenLight maybe you are allergic to peanuts!!there might be a connection between acne and allergies. This is something I have discovered recently.i firmly believe that cats trigger my acne
ΒΑΛ ΤΑΚΟ I’ve actually never considered the possibility of being allergic to peanuts, since it seems that it’s not a problem if I eat just a few. The reason a lot of doctors won’t tell you your acne is partially or mostly caused by diet is because that would mean they can’t prescribe you expensive products to “cure” it. Very sad.
I think it's their gut health and hormonal balance. If you have a healthy gut ams regulated hormone, your body has the ability to process shitty food better, and then there are people like us who break out horribly for just sniffing some dairy. I also think each body has a different way to detoxify, some through skin (acne), some though digestive system (digestive issues), some just don't (you see people with glowy skin but terrible health or overweight and cannot lose their weight no matter what they do). But being a sufferer of acne for almost 4 years, I really wholy believe diet and your health (not just gut health but also hormone or the amount of water and minerals your body has) relates strongly to acne.
I have, always had, just somethimes my skin is very dry, but I have also other health issues. Overweight, anemia, migrain, hypothyroidism... Our body just try to tell us different ways to change our life. 🤔
This is so validating. For years I knew a certain food was breaking me out, but I literally didn't realize it was sugar until I almost completely cut it out for about two months. My skin is completely cleared up. It is so annoying that doctors say diet has nothing to do with skin issues.
While I agree 100% that acne is diet related and that dairy and refined sugars worsen it, I have to disagree with avoiding healthy fats like chia seeds, walnuts and avocados. They can be highly beneficial for your overall health as well as your skin's health. By incorporating more fats into your diet you are also more likely to eat less refined sugars and carbs. Now I don't wanna say this would work for everyone but if you have acne you could try out intermittent fasting (combined with low carb high fat diet of course). It's a great way to keep your insulin levels low. It's better for you in the long run as well, not just when it comes to acne. It has helped me a lot.
I agree. Since incorporating more healthy fats I have actually been able to clear my skin significantly. But as Cassandra was saying, it's also finding the proper balance for your body! So for some, moderate fat diets might work (like myself) and others require higher or lower amounts.

I definitely agree with most that you have said but healthy fats containing these fatty acids are the building blocks for hormones and are so important for hormonal balance. We must make sure we are having our omega 3's otherwise we can develop hormonal problems which can lead to acne. Food is a very unique and individual aspect for acne but one thing definitely does not fit all. I do agree with you that these things are big risk factors for acne and I myself do reduce/ eliminate dairy and sugars and I talk about that on my channel all the time, but reading through the comments I fear people are fearing fat when it is not the enemy. It is all about finding balance lowering the omega 6+9 which is typically high in a western diet and raising the level of omega 3 and then finding your own personal level threshold for omega 3 :) we definitely want to lower the omega 6 +9's because they promote testosterone in the body which leads to more sebum = more acne so 100% get to know the fats you are eating :) I had terrible acne for years and I feared fat at one point, now my diet contains a lot of 'healthy fats' and my skin has never been better :) Great videos I love the info you share just wanted to give my thoughts on fats as I see a lot of people getting scared :) lots of love and support :D xxxx

Hey Cassandra, just a note about Starbucks dairy free plant based alternative milks; all the ones they carry here in Canada have either sugar (cane sugar) or carrageenan (carcinogenic) and/or stabilizers/gums (bad for our guts too) so not the best choice either. I keep pushing for Whole Foods & their Whole 365 brand to come up with a plant based milk w/o any of these nasties. We don’t need sugar in our beverages!!! Great video; you know your stuff girl!

The schooling I’m presently signed up for is Esthetician, 7 month course to become one. I’m excited. I have very clear skin with no problems except aging at soon to be 57yrs old. I do however use retin A once a week now since I was 37yrs? It works for me and no breakouts. I also eat everything you say that shouldn’t 🤷♀️
How to do feel about soy milk?? I’ve heard mixed things about soy affecting hormones similarly to dairy, I’ve been dairy free for about a month & a half & I much prefer soy milk to others but I’m on the fence whether it’s good or bad 😖
Honestly...it's soooo good to see you looking and feeling your best and giving amazing advice because you educated yourself. Personally I have cut out white sugar, white flour and dairy and my skin has improved so much over the last few months.
I just read avocado is good to reduce acnr and now you are saying avocado can cause acne 😭😭😭😭 like oh my god why is this so complicated. Why can't it be simple. Some say nuts are good for pcod but then again i read nuts causes acne.. why why is it so complicated. sometimes i thnk i should just not eat anything.
Avocados will likely be helpful for fighting acne for most people. I dont think she explained the healthy fats aspect too well. Basically, regulate the ratio between your omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids, a good ratio is from 4:1 to 1:1 usually in favor of omega 6s. Generally if you can intake 3000 mg of omega 3s you will be fine. For example, I eat 3 chicken breasts per because I bodybuild and that is my main protein source. A chicken breast has about 1500 mg of omega 6, so I either eat a can of wild salmon with around 3000 mg of omega 3s or some days instead I'll take a few fish oil pills.. just examples
I don't think avocado is bad for your acne. I'm prone acne skin and I eat avocado very often. In fact some fatty acids from the avocado are good for your skin!
I’ve been vegan for over a year and I haven’t seen the biggest change in my skin, but now with this video I’m really gonna try to pay attention to sugar and fats! I loved how you explained the science and rationale behind all of these with it making perfect sense!! Please do more videos like this! ❤️
I love you Cassie, I just started back on antibiotics and my stomach hurts so bad! I’m talking bloating, diarrhea, and heartburn!! I’ve finally decided that they are truly adversely affecting my gut health and I’m quitting them forever for my acne!!!
Bay Area rep! 🔥🔥🔥 You've been my Go To Girl for Skincare for years. Thank you for really elaborating information as to how acne develops and cause/effects etc. You're one of the ONLY TH-camrs I trust about products/lifestyle regarding acne. THANK YOU!!!
Looking at your older videos at the moment. I feel so proud of you for wearing less to no makeup on your recent videos (the phase where I discovered you). You look so beautiful, and wear your skin with confidence. Love the energy so muchh
👍 THANK YOU CASANDRA BANKSON!!! I THOUGHT YOU WERE A DERMATOLOGIST, SERIOUSLY. OK ill stop yelling lol. Im learning so much and ive only onown you 10 minutes.. insane. Great video Cassandra! I used to think Dairy was the culprit of my cystic acne. But all this time it was sugar. I can now eat cheeze, and any dairy without sugar or very little sugar, with no acne breakouts. But the moment I consume too much sugar, I break out. Sucralose is the worst for me. Erythritol found in sugar free Monster Energy, is ok for me. Never break out with Sugar Free Monster Energy drinks.
I eat lots of omega-3 and stay away from omega-6, and my skin has improved. What she said about eating in moderation and to balance it does not apply to me
My skin looked the best when I was following a specific diet to lose weight. No sugars and only milk and whey as dairy. I haven't had any sugar for a month and I've been following the same diet for a while now. Only thing I've added is 3 eggs and some low fat cheese every morning and I consistently get a new acne every week around the same time. I think I get more acne compared to when I ate whatever I wanted. I'll remove the eggs and see how it goes.
Wow! You would be a great science teacher. You explain things so well and are so incredibly knowledgeable! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping others daily! 😊xx
This is all very very true. TH-camrs Nina and Ronda have a book called "The Clear Skin Diet" where they take Dr. John McDougalls work and do their own study to see if reducing fat in the diet would change acne, and it had dramatic effects. ALSOOO I would add coffee to that list. I find in people with acne prone skin, coffee can really cause breakouts because it has mold, and spikes insulin=inflammation the same as sugar. Green Tea/matcha is a better alternative! Thanks for the great advice!
Already got rid of lactose and I don't really drink soda and eat many sweets and now I am slowly getting rid of some other things to see if it helps. The first one is meat. Will be hard. Even when I already eat only chicken and tuna... I love them. But it's not only about my skin, recently, I learn more and more about how animals are treated before we eat them and about enviroment and my heart gets more and more heavy. I think it's time to do some changes in my life...
Hey Cassandra ! Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and giving positive vibes to your community. I never had acne, and when I recently came to SF, I had painful cystic acne... for now one year, and at 26yo ! No one understands how it is to suffer from it....and how it can affects your mental health too. Every time I'm watching your videos, I feel way much better, and it feels so good to know that someone actually understands you. You'll be the best dermatologist ;) Thank you for everything and keep doing what you love !
This helped me so much as usual xx also first comment and like . I’m also trying to get clearer skin you can’t see it from far away because they are all large bumps that turn red through time I’m only 11 and it’s not much of a problem to my friends that I have acne but I don’t love it I mean I’m like you can hang around for like another month then I’m kicking you out but life doesn’t work like that soo yeah thanks though xxx
3:33 I gotta correct you here, when something is omega 3 it means that the double bond is at the third C atom, when it is omega 6 the double bond is at he sixth C atom etc. So this means that omega 9 doesn't have more (double) bonds than an omega 3. Now you might be right about them breaking of due to sunlight, I don't know if that's a thing, but when a bond breaks it also doesn't necessarily mean that it becomes a transfat. This totally depends upon where the molecule would break and what type of double bond there is (cys or trans). I do think there is some truth to what your'e saying, but some info wasn't right
Oh honey, I don't think she or the simpletons praising her in the comments and calling her a scientist CARE. Neither do they understand the basics of organic chemistry. Instead you should tell her that she looks pretty and is so much smarter than all those uptight dermatology specialists. That will earn you a heart. ❤️
Infrared light can help heal the skin if it's done right. Don't burn your skin though. I think there are certain wavelengths and light levels of infrared that are beneficial for healing acne. Something to look into.
As always very good information. You are great at walking people through things. Keep on keeping on. Only point of critique: you have to get your facts straight concerning omega fatty acids. They have one or more double bonds, the rest are normal single bonds. You showed a correct graphic of the exact molecules where you can even see the double bonds. And the molecules do not break in these places: The one half of each double bond can neutralize one oxygen radical or two halogenic radicals, for example chlorine. They get bond with their free electrons onto the excess electron pair in the double bonds. Then the oxidants stuck to the molecules try to get as far away from each other as possible because they both have high electronegativity. Thus they stretch the molecules and unwind it so that it gets into the kinetically easier position and has now the so called trans shape. It does that because the now single bonds can turn so that the oxidants with their repulsive electronegativity can be as far away from each other as possible. This results in a "more relaxed" (or not so tense) energy state.
I always broke out with conventional dairy, always. But I bought a herd of dairy goats to eat down the weeds in our pasture & one of them was pregnant when I bought her. I ended up training her to the stand & trying the milk. My skin never broke out!!! It tasted great, so I only drink milk from my own herd now. Conventional dairy is heated very high, making it a dead 'food'. Luckily I have fresh raw milk & it doesn't bother my skin. Not all dairy is bad. I also have a wolf hybrid dog who is super active & has benefited from the milk. We hike with our 3 dogs in the mountains or during the winter he runs inside on a treadmill for exercise. He was having trouble keeping weight on with regular exercise. I began giving him some milk each day we didn't drink (I was getting about 1.5 gallons PER DAY so we had plenty to go around between us & the dogs) his coat shined up and he was able to maintain a good body weight. Vitamin a is great for skin, & goats milk is high in vitamin a!! Please don't give people misinformation. Conventional dairy sucks, but raw milk is amazing stuff.
all I hav is hormonal breakouts or if I hav to much soda. I never really had pimples till maybe 25, wen I was younger and really stress fever blisters! but since its u Ill watch anyways, luv yur videos so much!
I stopped drinking coffee (it’s full of chemical compounds) and caffeinated drinks . It was hard because both were a regular part of my diet for 20+ years. My nodular cystic inflammatory acne is 99% gone.
Hi Cassandra, thank you for this video, you're incredible. I referred to the linked video about insulin resistance because I'm super curious about this topic as I myself am super sensitive to blood sugar fluctuations from eating white carbs and anything sugary. The linked video talks about insulin resistance caused by saturated fats, however in your video you mention that this can also be caused by healthy, unsaturated fats? I eat a high-fat (salmon, avocados, etc), low-carb diet and this is what keeps my skin under control, but now I am super confused and wondering if my high-fat diet is perpetuating the problem?
You're amazing! Thanks for the video! Cheese has been by far the most difficult part about cutting dairy because I absolutely love pizza. I've been having a hard time finding a cheese that will melt and not taste like cardboard
I’m in the process of going vegetarian. I cheated today and had chick fil a. Watching this video now makes me feel guilty. On the plus side I did give up dairy looooooong time ago. Daiya is so good. It’s what I eat
Hi! Thank you for the significant information! 💞 For months now, subcutaneous painful pimples have appeared on my forehead. I would be very grateful if you could tell me what to read or what can cause them? 🤗🌼
Eating Avocado and Omega 3 and 6 Oils actually helped me with my Acne. Also i drink everyday Golden Milk and Cellery Juice. But not every Person and every Skin ist the same. P.S. i cut out milk, i use now Almond Milk to add to my Coffee.
What about black seed oil. Not sure what to think about this. I heard it's great for hormones to balance them, as anti-inflammatory & many other pros. I have not tried it Yet because theres lack of pure good quality black seed oils...
You are so bang on. I went through thisss. Still am on a journey. Do you have a video on why my skin is prone to clogging and how to fix it??? Plz help meeee
i never had acne, like ever, the only skin issue i have is Tinea versicolor, if you know any tips or details about that skin condition please give me thoughts on it please
Hi Cassandra, i just want to ask if its okay to take primrose and fish oil everyday? or is this not advisable? my skin issue is that I keep having alot of comedones, everywhere and all the time and i agree less dairy intake has obvious results to my skin.
I cut out dairy as well and it made a huge difference in my skin, but what came as a surprise to me that I was actually lactose intolerant . I never knew about it and it was just a norm for me to have laxative effect from dairy (especially milk) and it could occasionally make me sick if I had a full glass of milk for example.
It depends on person and allergy. I'd never had milk, avocado since I was born. But I've got terrible acnes after my first period at 9 till after highschool. I think the problem was because I was overweight when I was kid, and underweight when I was teen. So my hormones was boom! Now I start gaining weight, drinking milk and eat avocado, my skin is very better. My face is still fine and there's no acne. However, I'm 28 now, so everything's change, I believe. I do more exercise at least 3 times per week and eat much healthier than before. No deep fried, ice cream, cake, donuts, etc. Eat several good food, switch types of food more often are the keys. Such as oil, I consume more than 3 different good extra virgin oils (black sesame, olive, coconut, rice oil, all are extra virgin), but not much and too often. Milks either.
I love your videos and have ever since I found your first couple “how to cover acne” makeup routines. I had cystic acne, made the change to veganism 5 years ago & on top of that am a total nerd with all things body: hence my Kinesiology major . I truly love your videos because you match me perfectly.
I love that you always provide the science behind your reasoning/advice! Great video per usual 😊
I love that you enjoy educating yourself and working out the brain!! xoxo
Honestly...it's soooo good to see you looking and feeling your best and giving amazing advice because you educated yourself. Personally I have cut out white sugar, white flour and dairy and my skin has improved so much over the last few months.
Thanks for being so precise. People who deal with acne constantly, look for actual answers.
I feell u
Yea nuts, diary and oranges causes me to get acne. It's hard out here
Avocados will likely be helpful for fighting acne for most people.
I once went through that phase too...my mate told me to eat tissue!! ;)
you look so beautiful in this
Thank you my dear!! Science makes me happy, and no amount of makeup can re-create that kind of glow!
You look so pretty! I love this look! Can you do a tutorial on it?
I’ve been vegan for over a year and I haven’t seen the biggest change in my skin, but now with this video I’m really gonna try to pay attention to sugar and fats! I loved how you explained the science and rationale behind all of these with it making perfect sense!! Please do more videos like this! ❤️
Did it work?
love how informative this video was! not just “don’t eat this or this or this” but explaining why!!💕
Good info! Any truth behind citrus fruits and tomatoes causing skin problems because of the acid?
I love you Cassie, I just started back on antibiotics and my stomach hurts so bad! I’m talking bloating, diarrhea, and heartburn!! I’ve finally decided that they are truly adversely affecting my gut health and I’m quitting them forever for my acne!!!
I would watch a 2 hours biology lesson from you. You explain it so well
Bay Area rep! 🔥🔥🔥
You've been my Go To Girl for Skincare for years.
Omg! Your like an angel you have helped me over the last few months clear my acne and I’m so, so, so grateful for that! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
👍 THANK YOU CASANDRA BANKSON!!! I THOUGHT YOU WERE A DERMATOLOGIST, SERIOUSLY. OK ill stop yelling lol. Im learning so much and ive only onown you 10 minutes.. insane. Im 64 and have suffered from acne my entire life. Definitely in pursuit of that Ordinary brand... reasonably priced products. Thanks & i subscribed, of course!
One of the best TH-cam channels. I have been watching your videos all week during social isolation. Very interesting and educational.
How about yoghurt?
Love that you're sharing all of your knowledge, time & effort.. it has helped me so much!
Yogurt is made from diary
Thanks for the amazing tips! ❤️❤️❤️
I eat lots of omega-3 and stay away from omega-6, and my skin has improved. What she said about eating in moderation and to balance it does not apply to me
DEFINITELY keep it up with the SCIENCE parts of the videos!
I feel like I learn more here than in my biology class 😂
I definitely can attest to sugar and milk. Made some cream of wheat the other day and literally at least 4 inflamed pimples came within 24 hours.
blown away by all your knowledge! thank you!
Thank you for posting these kinds of videos. They are so informative and helpful not just for acne issues but it has helped me with my PCOS as well.
😊xx
I seriously loved the scientific talk about acne Thank you!!!
Thanks for the great advice!
pleaaaaase do an acne scar video
Damn the scientific parts are fascinating. Your enthusiasm is electric. Thank you for this video!
I did these things and my face completely cleared up!!! However it's a not so fun diet 😭 however I also feel better when I follow this diet
i feel like every time i watch ur vids i learn more then i do in school
So true
God I love biochemistry, GIMME DAT SCIENCE
LOVE YOUUUUU DEAR XOXOXO
Cassandra Bankson hehe 💕
Love Math, Chemistry and Physics! Stoichiometry of College Chemistry!
When I switched from dairy milk to almond milk my cystic acne cleared
I'm sorry but I needed you so much rn. Everything you say and went through makes sense. You are amazing. I'm glad you exist
Never heard of those dairy brand. Checking right now
Thank you for sharing!! Love how much science you share too ; Learning so much!!,,,,
You're amazing!
I absolutely love how honest and nerdy you are! Makes you genuine😊
5:43 Can someone tell me what type of food is Derry? English is not my mother language and I've never heard of it before
Dairy* and is everthing that is milk based like cheese, butter, whey etc
Your videos are very informative.Instead of just telling us not to eat these foods,u gave us the reason
Hi! Thank you for the significant information! 💞 For months now, subcutaneous painful pimples have appeared on my forehead. I would be very grateful if you could tell me what to read or what can cause them? 🤗🌼
I adore your videos! I nerd out over the science behind skin and skincare and your bubbly, honest nature! ❤️❤️ sending hugs!
So as a type 1 diabetic- how would by blood sugar roller coasters affect my skin/ acne
Cutting out refined sugars has helped me too.
This video is so well done! I’m so blown away and really appreciate the vegan suggestions.
So no more juice extractor 😣 tough adding vegetables helps process sugar slowly. Or should we use pro fiber filters ?
Hi Cassandra, i just want to ask if its okay to take primrose and fish oil everyday? or is this not advisable?
my skin issue is that I keep having alot of comedones, everywhere and all the time and i agree less dairy intake has obvious results to my skin.
Cassandra should have 9999M views. Best skin channel ever
thanks Cassandra! Your videos are always so informative, and well researched.
👍👍👍
i don t consume dairy at all, but still have acne . PS i consume too much sugar and i intend to get rid of this bad habbit
what type of vegetarian protien can be taken for cystic acne sufferer, and for weight gain
Thanks for the diet tips. Your skin looks gorg by the way&💜!
You're an inspiration! Thank you for explaining all this so coherently.
I'm looking for dairy. But avoiding sugar is not effective.
I feel like there's so much that goes into acne, I don't even know where to start
Omg I finally understand why omega 6's aren't good for your skin and why I can't eat too much peanut butter. Thank you.
You & Lilykoi Hawaii are my favorite to watch!
