I'm Living & Mountain Biking Here for a MONTH!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 15 ต.ค. 2023
- This month I brought my entire family and a bunch of bikes to Bentonville Arkansas. We will be posting videos here as usual, and running this TH-cam channel remotely. Bentonville is in a league of its own when it comes to urban mountain bike infrastructure, experimental trail building, and investment in outdoor recreation. To someone like me who appreciates unique mountain bike features, public projects, and cool trails, it's worth more than a weekend visit-so we made that happen!

“The road to prosperity is paved in sick jumps”. Awesome! 😂
Needs to be on a T-shirt lol
Indeed!
Bentonville is undoubtably a neat place for mountain biking but how many small towns have been hollowed out by Walmart and their ilk? Bentonville is a company town that Tom and Stuert Walton have made their personal playground. Bentonville’s example of “prosperity” isn’t applicable everywhere.
Or by exploiting labor and children in 3rd world countries by paying them pennies per day in order to make a quarter trillion dollar company.
I want that on my tombstone
My family made a 2 day detour to Bentonville while on a cross country trip back in April. It was so far beyond anything I expected. Perma-grin ear to ear all day while riding and experiencing everything. It's like mtn biking Disneyland. Can't wait to go back!
I'm interested to see this series because I'd love to try and implement some of this magic in my home town
As a non-American who never had any intention of ever traveling to Arkansas (unless business took me there) I can definitely say that Bentonvillie is on my bucket list now. What an amazing place! So cool to see a community to heavily invested in outdoor recreation.
My Italian colleague went mountain biking through Coler this morning. He loved it and saw yellow school busses (which I guess is extremely American). He said he he really enjoyed his week here.
You should definitely come visit! I first moved here in 2006 and immediately fell in love with the area. It's an incredible place to be!
Lived here my whole life and you can take trails basically anywhere
I really hope this inspires people to become advocates for walk/bike infrastructure in their towns!
And to advocate for taxing the ultra wealthy, like that sleazeball family -- the Waltons. Imagine what society could have if they didn't own three dozen mega yachts.
Everything just looks so well built 🛠️
I moved here in 2022 and I love it. I lived in Southern California for 53 years. Videos like yours are what made me decide to move here.
We had family out to visit from SoCal and they made a keen observation: “Your WalMart’s are nicer than our Targets… and with no plexiglass on the shelving! What is this place?” 😂
@@bryant8635 that is one of the first things that struck me when I moved here. I don't have to show my receipt when I leave the store.
You must be so much more happy, California really hurts everyone whether it’s economically or physiologically.
Welcome! I live here too. I’m also a realtor if you need any real estate questions!
@@hwinterr yes, California has a lot to love but there are just too many negatives now, and it gets worse every year.
I live in a small town in south west Missouri. Im less than 2 hours from Bentonville and have never been there. I’m so jealous of the infrastructure in place for bikes. My town just keeps shrinking road shoulders to make lanes wider for cars and making it harder and more unsafe for bikes with each passing year. This is truly a eye opening video Seth, please keep ‘em coming!
It's so frustrating, but at least we do have good examples for anyone willing to listen
Where you at? sounds like Branson.
@@SethsBikeHacksyes it is so sad to see the car centric culture take over we need more walkable cities
@@nicholasandfriends6679nailed it!
Im in memphis TN same here
Dude welcome to Northwest Arkansas! One of the best things we’ve got going - besides the trails of course - are all the incredible and friendly people here 🤙
Seth getting hired by Walmart to help MTB parks get built around the country would be a development.
...And one hell of a mix of words to create a sentence.
Walmart sucks
@@cptbuiltk7944 I don't disagree.
Not likely.
haha, you'll know I got that job when I post a video titled "I'm retiring from TH-cam" 🤣
@@SethsBikeHacks WalMart has always done supply chain stuff well.
Want people to spend more on your biking stuff Walmart? Bring the trails to the people....
Yo let's ride while you're out here!
I need a buddy tonride with im in Memphis, tn imma come to bentonville this summer for riding indo mtbing but can ride all day on roads too 😂😂❤❤
Welcome (for a bit) to our backyard. We try not to take it for granted. Its an amazing place to live and has all kinds of awesome riding. Looking forward to seeing your videos from Bentonville. I know and love these trails!
Welcome to Bentonville. I’ve lived here all my life, and the changes just keep coming! Just started riding the trails, and having a blast! Enjoy your stay.
It amazes me on how people can ride such slick and wet rocks and other shiny slabs really shows how Seth is skilled at riding. Massive respect
As someone who is active in town planning (but with no formal planning background) in a small mountain town, I'm excited to see what videos come from your experience there. We only have a few hundred residents, but literally millions of visitors each year from neighboring cities and towns. We could do wonderful things with a bit of foresight.
It's nice to see a town embracing bike culture rather than seeing it as a threat to cars.
I grew up in Bentonville and rode Slaughterhouse trails back when these were deer runs in the woods. I was in Bentonville last week visiting my parents and it's still a great place to ride :)
Believe they are called slaughter pen trails. But we all know what you’re talking about!
Don’t know if we’d be able to go home after spending time on those sick trails 😅🤘
It's an 8 hour drive each way for me each time I go there. I'm going there for the 9th time next weekend and I'm honestly not sure how many more times I can leave, I love it there!
Luckily a 3 hour drive for us but it makes local trails less satisfying.
@@chewser117 damn I’m in Canada so it’s quite aways away for me lol
@ryancarpenter3353 3.5 hours for me but the feeling is the same lol
Thought for sure I was going to see some B roll of me crashing in your old backyard when you referenced it! Lol
You a dad yet?
As someone who has lived in Bentonville almost all of their life it is crazy to see how much it has changed even in the last year.
Welcome! Glad to have you. As a native resident, I can't tell you how crazy it is to see my home town grow into such a phenomenon. Enjoy your stay as always!
Glad to see you are in town for a month. Cant wait to see the videos. If you arent too busy and read these comments you should come join us for a wed night group ride with FAST. We would love to have you out.
My wife and I visited Bentonville to ride last October and had a blast. So much so that we decided to spend 4 months here as a trial run to see how easy it is to make friends here. Enter FAST (Friends of Arkansas Singletrack.) We started riding with them as soon as we got here and never looked back. Such a great and friendly group of people, that here we are almost 4 months into our trip and we just closed on a house to move here permanently. And to close the circle fully, what brought us here last year were various content creators, including yourself Seth, making great videos about the place, but it's the less tangible things that have kept us here and why we now call it home.
I’m here for the first time ever. Riding tomorrow and it was awesome to see this video when I woke up this morning. Hope to see ya one the trail. 🤞🏼👍🏼
Just left there this past weekend. What a wonderful place to ride and experience. Enjoy the time there outside the festival!
I was into mtb’ing when the only mtb trails were at Lake Fayetteville and Devil’s Den. Life got busy with work and then young kids but recently moved back to NWA and it is AWESOME! Getting my kids into mtb’ing at 11 and 8 yrs last year and this year my daughter is racing NICA mtb’ing!
Here's the extract : "So this trip with my whole family is tax deductible".
Love it :)
I would love this channel regardless of where I was from, but as someone who went to Brevard College and then moved to Bentonville for most of my adult life, I also enjoy it for the warm fuzzy nostalgia.
I wish there was a way to get city leaders from around the country to visit Bentonville. Every other place I’ve lived has shown apprehension or even outright animosity towards trails and bike stuff. NW Arkansas is a great example of how trails can be a huge asset for the whole community.
Bentonville is such an amazing example of what can be accomplished when city planners and investors are in tune with their local community.
This used to be a small town - it's kind of exploding these days from what I've seen. I personally know two families that have moved there in the past year. A decade ago, most folks wouldn't have been able to point to Bentonville on a map. Pretty incredible.
Avoid northwest arkansas , toxic waste, high crime, zombies in the streets, just go somewhere else. Just kidding don't austin our arkansas.
@@EvanHarpwe are past that buddy. The cat has been out of the bag for a few years. No stopping people from coming now unless they get to see how poorly planned our roads are.
Pro tip, have someone drop you off at the cell phone tower at the top of mount kessler, otherwise you have to walk hike to the top of fu****ng mount kessler!
Problem is though with population stuff like this goes away
@@ghost9431More like quality of life goes down... Population booms always bring a higher cost of living, increased in crime, congestion, and loss of resources.
The community for all cyclists is incredible here in NWA, including adaptive cycling, gravel, road, kids events, you name it. If you have a moment while you’re here, check out Gnargo Bikes. They’re a super amazing local family who upcycle bikes into awesome cargo bikes. They’re fantastic people. Hope to see you on the trails! Angus Chute is one of my favs and so underrated. Can’t wait for the rework of Berm ❤
SETH! My girlfriend and I put a deposit on a house rental in Bentonville today! We almost moved there a few years ago and chickened out at the last minute, but this video re-sparked our interest in Arkansas. We currently live in Oregon and have been looking for a house to rent for the last three months but there was nothing in our price range with a 2-car garage. For less than any house I could find in Oregon, we were able to secure a 1-year lease in a 2,300 sqft McMansion with a 3-car garage! Incredible. I can't believe your TH-cam video changed our lives in such a major way, but I thank you. Looking forward to a healthier lifestyle, both physically and mentally!
Welcome back. Glad to have you. Lived in NWA for 30 years and it’s crazy how it’s changed. Virtually no bike trails before 2010 and now it’s getting really close to being able to bike anywhere especially if you mountain bike.
I gotta hand it to you Seth. No matter how far back I go, your videos have always been fantastic. Quickly become my favorite MTB channel.
Bentonville has been growing for the past 5 years immensely - had the pleasure of watching it start and I frequent the area with family and friends - only a short drive away for a fun weekend of mtb fun! Brap on OZ Trails
What an awesome little town. Looking forward to seeing the video series
The modern looking building with the ramps around it at the end of the video is Specialized's "experience center" where you can demo bikes. Love the design - super cool!
NO WAYY!!
Long time watcher, and this is where I’ve grown up and still currently live!
Hopefully I get the awesome opportunity to run into you soon!!
Moved here from Florida 3 months ago. Best decision I ever made. You can be a complete beginner and progress your way up without having to travel anywhere since everything is located within 30 miles and interconnected by the greenway.
Welcome Seth! For some anonymity, ride Mt. Kessler or Centennial in Fayetteville or Devil's Den at little further south. You'll see a couple riders tops on a weekday.
Im looking forward to Bentonville videos and super excited to visit in the Spring. 'Thanks once again, Seth
Hope to see you out on the trails in Bentonville! Have a great time!
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing the next video.
I was just there for the first time 2 weeks ago... Just an incredible place and they are building trails like crazy. In 5 years its gonna be insane.
Yep. Bentonville plans to build 30+ miles of new bike paths across the city in the next 3 years, and that is just paved trail/path, so it doesn't even include new MTB trails
I love watching these videos. I am going on a 18 hour flight tomorrow and I downloaded every Berm Peak video
Glad you’re getting to stay longer, I’ve lived in Bentoville most of my life due to work. Great community and great bike trails.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video with us Seth! I really want to go and check that place out now.
As a European, this town, Whistler, Québec and Berm Park are really my dream places to go mountain biking... Looking forward to the next videos Seth!
One of my biggest regret, I didn't have a bike when I lived in Germany for 2.6 years, I did a lot of hiking. If you are asked to take a cruise down the Rhine River, don't. Better yet take or rent a bike, you will get to see a lot more that way.
So much anticipation! Keep rocking!
Have a great time out there, Seth! I can't wait to have the skill to be able to ride more features.
I’m really enjoying the direction you are taking as of late. Keep up the good work.
We’ll be there this week for Big Sugar! Hope to run into you on the trail!
It’s so wild because all of this is still such a small fraction of the value of Walmart and the wealth of its shareholders. It’s a window into how we could all live if things were more equitable and distributed
Right? I remind myself all the time that "vanity" projects for the wealthy used to be things like libraries and parks. I wish that was still the case
@@GNMi79 If you think that donation-funded projects from the 1% hoarding over 35% of US wealth then idk what to tell ya. There are ways to structure businesses that are more equitable
@@GNMi79Where would they be? They’d be built by local governments and councils like everywhere else. No city should be relying on donations from local billionaires, because in 99.99% of cities, they don’t exist.
@@GNMi79 You don’t have enough intelligence to make any meaningful contributions to this conversation. Politicians are paid a *salary*. The amount of taxes that are paid is irrelevant to what they earn. Without taxes you wouldn’t have roads, hospitals, schools, fire departments, police, military, or even the internet. This is why people laugh at Libertarians. You have zero idea how the world works.
@@GNMi79 Lmao. Please just refrain from talking about this stuff. You’re out of your element
Love it. I'm stoked to see what you do there
Welcome back. We'll see you out there.
This is the result of building infrastructure for people and not for cars. You get an awesome place, with a strong community, and everyone else wishing they could live there.
I'm really hoping Seth can open some eyes to what's possible when we prioritize people over cars!
The roads here are still very bike unfriendly
@@dadlife8289 A lot of old thinking for city planning needs to be undone I'm sure. Bentonville is likely still one of the best examples for people to point to of what's possible in even a few short years when you get the right people behind it.
@@TrailFeatures the big problem is a lot of the main roads don't even have shoulders because most of the houses used to be out in the boonies. Then in my neighborhood, they want to take away 11ft of our backyard to put a 5 lane road (no bike lane)
@@dadlife8289 It's honestly a good talking point to bring up. It shows that so long as the rest of the country relies on cars to get from one major area to the next, city planners will always go back to old thinking and just need one more lane and then the problem is solved! And people from out of town will always assume they need a car to get anywhere in the city, trains and buses are for poor people that can't afford cars. So planners will either assume (or be told) they need to build more roads or they are leaving money on the table that could otherwise pour into their local economy.
Lack of supporting regional infrastructure becomes a glaring issue when places like Bentonville turn into desirable place to visit/live, but people fall back to old thinking that ruins the whole reason they want to be there.
@@TrailFeatures oh there's one more thing to bring up. The 3 major roads in Bentonville - Walton Blvd, Centerton Blvd, Airport Rd all do not have bike lanes, plus long stretches of no side walks. They were not prepared for the explosive growth here and I don't know how they're going to get the land to do with with all store parking lots right up to the road
I saw you there last week on my annual pilgrimage to mountain biking mecca. Didn't want to bother you, as you were out walking Oscar and with your daughter. But you are a bit of a celebrity in the MTB community so it was 'cool', nonetheless 😊 Enjoy your time there Seth!
Super happy to see you in Bentonville. We live just less than 2 hours south and really love to visit, when we can. It really is quite an amazing place.
I am really glad we get to see this type of content. It is such a unique idea to move one's whole family away from home for a whole month! I can't wait to see more mountain biking videos! I hope you have fun!
The most honed talent Seth's has is creativity. He can push quality stuff without even talking about mountain bikes at all.
Love Bentonville. Excited to see what videos you come up with while you're there.
It is amazing how vast and diverse the US is. As an arkansas native, it is awesome to see my home getting recognized for some of the most beautiful parts of it. Beautiful waters and good rock climbing as well. People are always surprised when I talk about how beautiful Arkansas is, like they only expect the coasts of the US to be worth visiting. As many problems that I have with my home state, natural beauty is not one of them.
Sick that you’re down for an extended stay! Sorry I hadn’t run into you to say hey, but it seems like everyone’s giving you a warm welcome. 🫡
Looks awesome, looking forward to more videos of the town 🚴
Thank you for stopping by the Strider Bikes store! 🤩 We were just in Bentonville last month for the Strider Cup and Adventure-Cross races. Lots of biking and lots to do! Enjoy your time there! 😊
Badass!! How amazing, have tons of fun.
Awesome to see you in town I live 2 minutes away from the bentonville square! Also I use to work at that Walmart store lol. Welcome happy that you’re here!
This is awesome Seth! Excited to see the videos!
Gooden !Thanks for the look.
All I can think of is how sore my butt would be from all of that riding 😂 Looks amazing I look forward to all the videos to come.
Seth, while you're in Bentonville you should take a day trip to Tulsa, OK. We've been working hard on developing our public mountain bike trails at Turkey Mountain (it's more of a hill than a Mountain) and it's worth checking out.
Love seeing you come to my home town. Met you six years ago when you first came to town and again at Bikefest 2023. Hope to see you out in town this visit! Keep the videos coming!
I’m really lookin g forward to the videos you produce while in Bentonville. Getting my family to rent a house in Bentonville is on my bucket list.
Just saw you on the greenway a couple days ago!! Cool to hear you'll be staying a month. I've been living in bentonville for five years and I love it, enjoy your stay!
Welcome back to town Seth! Hope to see you around over the next month!
This is your best vídeo in this Journey so far! Thanks for the ride along, Enjoy!
Looks fun!
My home, so blessed to live here.
Mountain biking brought us here but man the trails are just part of what makes bentonville absolutely incredible! Best place in country to raise a family!
love your videos man i always get excited when i see the notifacton pop up saying youve just posted
I’ve been following you since you were in Broward County. You didn’t disappoint me then or now. Keep up the great content.
This is awesome! My work gave me the shaft this summer when I had planned going to Whistler. So we squeezed the lemon and decided Bentonville later in the year would be the ticket. And now I find out Seth is gonna be there at the same time! I couldn't be more stoked!! I just hope I get to see him once while we're there! Hopefully your family will have a much fun as you are and I can't wait to get there and start digging into some fun myself! ✌🏼
Seth, welcome to the Natural State! I live about 3hrs south of Bentonville in North Little Rock. I look forward to videos you make while in Bentonville as I’ll have plenty of time to watch them while recovering from a broken ankle I picked up in a riding accident just a few days ago.
100% loved visiting and riding in Bentonville, up there with the best mtb destinations and some of the best bbq after riding. Spent one day with slaughter house trail guides and was so worth it, they're awesome and gave a tour of all the areas.
I just spent a month in B’ville. Loved the town and the trails. Crazy growth in the area and hot as blazes this summer!
Say what you want about the motto "mountain biking capital of the world." they sure do incorporate an inclusive community centered around the sport. THAT I can get behind!!! You should do one video with Rich Drew!
Congrats... will be follow your videos.
Welcome to the neighborhood! Hope to catch you on some group rides over the next month!
Yeaaah go Seth go! Looking forward videos from Bentonville 🚵
Hope to see you around!
Headed there Thursday for a couple days of shredding. Hope to see ya on the trail!
You are truly inspirational, Seth. Great job, brother!
I love Bentonville. I was there this past Spring and we're going back there again next June. I can't wait.
I was there 2 weeks ago and missed so many of the trails and features shown in this video. Still had great time and I'm looking forward to getting back there.
You should link up with Evan’s MTB Saga! He’s a smaller TH-camr that puts in a ton of work to bring value to the MTB Audience. He moved to Bentonville a while back.
This was such a well shot and well edited video. Looking forward to what's coming.
Very good! I'm waiting for the next episodes!
Thanks for showing off our amazing li'l world here in NWA! It truly is a not-so-hidden gem right here in the flyover states. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing more from you!
