    You don't fluke 5 world title's on 500cc gp bikes , Micks determination, willpower, talent made him a world champion just look at the way he modified his bike because he couldn't use his rear brake after his horrific crash nothing was going to stop this bloke..

    Doohan was a great rider. I wonder though if he feels his championships were diminished somewhat with the likes of Rainey, Schwantz and Lawson not competing against him. He did beat them on occasion while the three Americans were still racing but taking a championship was another matter. I’m not sure we will ever see the dominance again that those three Yanks showed. It was my favourite era of motogp. 84 to 93. I forgot to mention Gardner. The most fearless 500cc rider of all time. Jesus Wayne G. was fun to watch. He would come close to falling off and then cane it even harder. Fan from Canada.

      @@gassit137 You have a strong point on that one. He was dominating the start of the season until that crash sidelined him.

    I think Stoner was just as good as the others in their prime. Watching him succeed on the Ducati & drift that Honda into bends reminded me of Schwantz man-handling his Suzuki - loved it !!

    In terms of ability (if not results) I place Doohan, Schwantz, Rainey, Lawson, Rossi & Stoner together. In their prime - I doubt there would be very much between them all.

    Doohan is a legend, but anyone who discounts Stoner is an idiot, he's one of the fastest and most consistent riders of the last 5-6yrs and often makes his team mates look like amateurs.

      old post but compelled to reply. Doohan was a talented rider for sure. But you chose to leave out that in 1992 Rainey wasn't 100% fit. He started the season still suffering the I'll effects of a broken Femur from a Crash.

    I deliberately ignored Read & Agostini in the previous comment - Read wasn't quite good enough (imo) & Ago usually had better bikes than most of his competitors.

    Rubbishing Stoner makes me wise and know what I am talking about when it comes to bike riding. I have been in this game for nearly 40 years. And that is racing for 35, so do us all a favor and go back to whatever computer games it is you play....

    How many championships would doohan have won if Schwantz would'nt have retired & Rainey wouldn't have had a career ending crash, go figure.Mid 80's through to the early 90's was awesome, then doohan made it a yawn-fest.

    • @luiscr5689
      @luiscr5689 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      why do people forget 1992 when speaking of doohan, before Assen he already had 130 points, Rainey only win the first GP that year after doohan crash (well we got most of the races until the end season) winning the last race against a crippled doohan who finished behind him and loses the championship for 4 points, to be honest, grow up seeing all those A rider, from spencer to doohan, even being admirer of Doohan bc of his determination on returning to race without movement in one leg, i loved Rainey pragmatism was racer and Schwantz with a much weak bike still was able to write his name in history, nobody got even close in a Suzuki that time against Honda/Yamaha.
