Closest racer in points to Mick Doohan ever, says something to me. So happy to have found Australian motorcycle aces I don't know when this doco was made but they could have added a few more and I don't mean Casey as I assume that this was made before his fame, however why is Garry McCoy not mentioned or an earlier 125 and 250cc world champion mentioned to name but a few.
When interviewed about riding a 500cc GP bike,Dazza was full of praise for the wicked two-strokes,saying there was no other bike that comes close to riding a 500.He was then asked if it was better than sex.He shook his head in disbelief at the question and replied,"No way! Nothing is better than sex!" That's the moment he became my favourite Aussie 500 GP rider.
Best were still to come. Gary McCoy was a pure 2 stroke rider. His Red Bull Yamaha sliding, going to the 16 inch wheel on Dunlops, that was the last of the wild cowboy era imo. It's much more corporate these days if that is the right word. And of course Stoner. Ant West was also a great rider too, who never reached his full potential.
Really seemed to get screwed over by Honda and then also Suzuki from them dicking around with the bike and causing those career-ending crashes. Must have been hell frustrating for him - it was frustrating for me just looking on as a fan!!
Doohan mcgee and beattie were straight up fantastic riders.
Such an underrated rider . He knew how to ride a 500 as they weremeant to be ridden. Thanks for posting this video
one of Darryl Beaties most honest interveiws. Onya Dazza!!
Great guy. So humble

I thought he lost he’s toes on a Suzuki he was beating doohan on points and that ruined his season.
