wish doohan came back again after his final big crash, would have been awesome to see doohan vs rossi on the 500s, i would've put money on doohan ;) but i can imagine there would have been some really close races :) he is and always will be one of the greatest legends of motorcycling
Mick Doohan was to 500s what Valentino Rossi was to 990s: utterly dominant. As for those 500s, one of the coolest races in history was the 2002 Dutch TT, where the configuration of the circuit allowed the remaining two-strokes to take it to the new four-strokes. Alex Barros was stunning on that final Honda 500 - Rossi considers his ride at Assen to be the greatest he saw on a two-stroke. The 500s should have had their last great hurrah at the Sachsenring, when Olivier Jacque could have won.
I agree, Doohan has beaten everyone in 1992, only that major accident has stopped him from winning the tittle, anyone who really put their eyes on 500 racing aware of that :)
Mad Micky, the Track Warrior! Always reminded me of the Mad Max character, giant of the sport, probably the most courageous man ever to race a 500, he 'should' have lost his leg in '92 and literally risked his life to keep the leg and go back racing.
@socialspasmdrums Yeah no worries you wont get any abuse from me unlike alot of comments on here lol! I think you missed what I was trying to say. In ur previous post u said Doohan would not be able to win on modern bikes due to him being to physically big but I was merely pointing out that larger riders I mentioned have already won on them and aside from riding ability Mick was very strong mentally. He had to develop a new riding style after his massive crash.
I see people talking about Mick Doohan size , claiming that he was " Big " ..... well i saw him personally and he´s 5 feet 8 inches ...... 1 meter .. seventy five cms ....... is that big ? .... he´s normal ......... Simoncelli and edwards and valentino are big ..... well Super sic is not any more ...... ( sorry ) but he´s just normal ..... the thing with doohan is that he was meade out of irish ball´s skin .
@socialspasmdrums I'm not after an argument here but how can Doohan be too big to win on modern bikes when Rossi who is bigger has already won so many times. Spies & Simoncelli are almost there when they get the right bikes and lets not forget Sete Gibernau. As for Hayden, nice guy had a consistent year in 2006 but was & never will rival Rossi or ever have been for Doohan and the results of each prove this. If Rossi's M1 & tyres been competitive from start Nicky would'nt have been close
Mich ride against all of them and beat all of them. In 1991 he´s had so much more points than all the others, till Assen came....I guess without Assen, it would be almost more than 5 titles !
I feel privileged to have grown up watching the greats like Doohan in their prime :)
Yes. I remember watching Doohan in the 90s in the middle of the night in Australia.
Damn I miss 2 stroke MotoGP. Mick was the man!

Mick Doohan is the reason i'm into motogp when i was 9 years old.

l really miss this time. M. Doohan was in his form & became the Legend of the sport. Even the music in this time was so cool, Blurry - Puddle of Mudd
One word sums this professional up "Legend", enough said!!!
seen him today at the ipswich BMX meet :)
True master. Unique riding style, unique personality. To me the greatest motogp champion of all time, Mick Doohan!!👏👍
the man is a legend.
yeah bring it on 500cc
I MISS NSR 500!!!
Mad Micky, the Track Warrior!

if they built a Mount Rushmore of great moto gp world champions I bet Mick Doohan's face would be between Agostini and rossi

Mick Doohan was the rpevious King of Grand Prix... So is Rossi up to this day... To be honest, I think Stoner could do GREAT things in the future.
You could have never predicted 93

The career-ending crash conveniently ignored...
haha.... here here!!
Doohen, Rainey, Schwantz, Rossi..
Cool vid. :)
He could only win on a Honda (the best bike).....
