That reel is nice, but if I was going to drop that amount of money,I'd be getting the JDM Aldebaran BFS,or maybe the calcutta conquest BFS HG. I'd put either BFS reel on an Ultralight rated 5'6" casting rod, that has a nice soft noodle whip action, with 6 pound fireline on the reel. I'd use that to chuck light 1/32 oz jigs with 2" curl tail grubs under trees and such, for panfish, and whatever else would grab it,and other light baits I'd use. All hail BFS fishing! There are quite a number of people that use these ultra light casting rods and reels, fishing for trout on streams. It's awesome.
Sweswio well, it doesn't have to be real expensive. There are cheap rods that will work just fine for BFS, and you can get after market shallow light spools, for existing popular reels, like the tatula ct. There is also the Chinese Tsurinoya xf50 reel, that comes with a shallow spool, and handles light lures out of the box, without needing upgrades. This cheap reel can be had for 56-70$ depending on where you buy it from. It's not going to handle like a shimano, but it will get the job done for BFS. There are a number of BFS youtubers that have done reviews on the xf50, and find it acceptable. I even have one.
This is strictly a bass reel. You can't even cast a heavy lure with it cos you will spool yourself. Tackle Tour did a review on the 2012 Antares and they were already saying they were getting spooled on 50 lbs braid and the Aldebaran's line capacity is even lower. I fish inshore and the lightest lure I use is like 1 1/2 oz, so this reel is definitely off my list. If I must go low profile, I will probably go with the Chronarch Ci4+.
Before you buy one of these $400 + reels I strongly recommend you open up the side plate off, look at the gears, and see how they lightened the weight of these reels up so much.
what kind of line are you using with this reel? im assuming your only going to get about 60-65yds of anything strong enough for pitching and flipping in cover.
If you were to spool this up with some 20-pound maxquatro power pro w/ a fluorocarbon leader would it be good for jerkbaits and cranks? Or is the Daiwa Steez A TW a better choice?
No way id put 20lb line on my alde 50. Its more a finesse reel, i only use 8lb test on mine. The steez A would be a better option just cause of line capacity
I used to use a reel like that all the time for bass fishing but then one day they stopped biting and red fish toon over my favorite bass fishing spot so I had to start using a tougher rod and reel so I can pull in the bull reds...
how dose the aldebaran handle 3/8 oz jigs i wanna get it and spool it up with 15# or 20# braid and just use a leader or should i just get the metanium?
Stu Ben i'd owned mgx, premier, black max before turned to shimano aldebaran mg & aldebaran bfs. in my opinion, revos is far away back in all aspects compared to shimano aldebaran. aldebaran is better than abu garcia's high end reels-thrust me! fyi, my daiwa steez is resting in the tackle box ever since i have aldebarans in my hand :)
is this really worth the money though? I have a birthday coming up and I have about $500 I can spend and I wanted to pick this reel up but I can't really find any good finesse reels that will throw light lures and be as light as this reel
daniel gomes the Aldebaran is the JDM version of the Core 50 and the Metanium is the JDM version of the Core 100, so they'll probably come out with a 2015 Metanium 100 and it will be like this except in a 100 size. JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. So basically the Aldebaran and Metanium are what Shimano releases in Japan and the Core 50 and 100 is what Shimano releases here in the USA.
No would I especially if you are fishing land-based. The line cap alone or the lack of it is a big issue. But, if you are fishing freshwater from a bass boat using light baits or pitching and flipping then it is a joy to use, it is incredibly light and smooth.
I have a question. Why are there so many complete tools out there who leave the G-Loomis stickers on the rod handles? Every bass tournament I have ever entered had at least a few of these bozos in it. Is it because they think it makes them look rich? Even though everyone on the planet knows that they cost exactly 50% of that retail price. I buy cork handle rods because I like the cork on the handles of the rods. It makes absolutely no sense to cover that handle up with some cheap piece of plastic/paper with a price tag on it. I am sure they know that everyone is laughing at them. For the record, keeping a price tag on a piece of fishing equipment is 100% identical to keeping the tags/stickers on your hat/shoes and wearing them around. Most prolific fisherman call those people idiots and retards when they are doing that same thing with their own rods. Complete clowns.
Of course it costs more. Lews are cookie cutter reels made by Doyo in Korea along side revos, bps, and pfluegers. Lews just designs their reels from what's available from the Doyo catalog. Shimano develops, designs, and manufacturer their own reels in their own factories.
Cody Ceynar Straight magnesium might rust from contact with saltwater but do you actually think Shimano would make and release a saltwater approved magnesium reel if any kind of oxidation was a threat to it? First off, the magnesium Shimano's uses in this reel is what they call super magnesium and it's a treated magnesium that doesn't oxidize as easily as normal magnesium from contact with saltwater and second, they coat their magnesium framed reels with some kind of clear coat, so it doesn't matter if it rusts, corrodes, or oxidizes from contact with saltwater b/c saltwater will never touch the actual magnesium. I had one of the best reels ever made, the Shimano Chronarch 51mg , and it obviously had a magnesium frame and corrosion of any kind was never a problem at all. It weighed 5.9 oz.'s and was so absolutely amazing. B/c it was so light weight and b/c it also had a very light weight drilled spool, it would cast any tiny lure so far that it was absolutely insane. It'd cast normal size lures a mile too, but b/c Shimano used magnesium for the frame, there was the extra option to be able to finesse fish with a baitcaster, which is so much fun. Magnesium is very expensive, that's why most company's don't use it, it's a very high end material and for you to say that "Lew's isn't made of magnesium like this" like that's a compliment is pretty ignorant of you. Don't take that the wrong way, it just shows a lack of knowledge in this area. Don't get me wrong, I've heard a lot of good things about Lew's baitcasters and that's wonderful. I want more companies to start up and bring as many different reels and options to fishing as possible and if there's ever a brand of baitcaster that beats Shimano's, I'll be the first to admit it and I'll definitely be using it. I don't work for Shimano or any brand so I could care less who makes the best reel, the best reel is just what I'm going to use b/c I enjoy the hell out of casting lures all the way across a lake and I enjoy a glassy smooth retrieval when reeling the lure back and I enjoy holding and just staring at near flawless fit and finish on that reel and right now, Shimano is KING and just b/c this particular model happens to cost more than some of Lew's models, doesn't mean much at all. Lew's makes several models that are priced at over $300 and I'll tell you right now, for that price, there's several models by Shimano that are better options. You owe it to yourself to give Shimano a try b/c you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's not hype that's got them to the top. Next time you're at Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's or anywhere like that, just look at the various brand's baitcasters and compare the fit and finish. I work at one of the biggest chain sporting goods store in the country and I've looked and compared them all and the fit and finish on Shimano's reels is in another league. The only brand that hangs and is comparable is Daiwa. Another great brand there too.
jaf00181 agreed. daiwa has a great tech and advance features than shimano. e.g. xship has been used by daiwa long before shimano does but my daiwa steez got to rest in the tackle box because i like my aldebaran bfs & Mg more. in my opinion, shimano is better than daiwa in term of ergonomic and paint finish and i believe this new aldebaran is awesome as its brothers.
Bassin_WV the only difference in this real than the other Shimano reels that are cheaper is the Magnesium frame all the components are pretty much the same ive fished Shimano all my life I know people that sell for them and tell me the same thing all these $400 reels have the same components as $150-200 just the frame and handle are lighter
Caenan or Casitas? Totally different class. Sounds like you haven't even touched the Aldebaran. We are talking about a top shelf reel here. There is no comparison whatsoever.
I picked this up in the spring and it hasn't broken yet, fishing with this reel is awesome. I never show up to a tournament without it
Thanks for helping my brother and I pick out rods tonight! Love your videos man!
The 2020 version is my go to. Best reel in my arsenal.
Now thats the Lamborghini of reels
The Antares is
Antares dc
OOFMYNIGGA OOF it is the Lamborghini of reels. The Antares is the rolls Royce. Almost twice heavy
That reel is nice, but if I was going to drop that amount of money,I'd be getting the JDM Aldebaran BFS,or maybe the calcutta conquest BFS HG. Good video! as is his performance with lures 3-7 grams? it's good for that? excuse my English, thank you very much.
Awesome review
Gig'Em and BTHO ol miss
I love it too, whenever I have an extra $350-$400 laying around for a micro reel...
And for half that price you get a spinfisher v to catch stripers, bluefish, or sharks… how funny 😂
sorry to tell you but you gotta have and extra $600
If I would put 8lb diameter braid on this reel would it bomb casts? It would hold about 125yds
This is strictly a bass reel. You can't even cast a heavy lure with it cos you will spool yourself. Could u show how to keep maintenance on the svs infinity system?
What do you think of the Team Lew's® Pro Magnesium Speed Spool® Series
what are the other reels under 5oz that won't break my bank?? great review btw
what kind of line are you using with this reel? im assuming your only going to get about 60-65yds of anything strong enough for pitching and flipping in cover.
15lb fluoro. I have another one spooled with 40lb Power Pro. You only use the first 30 for flipping so works great
How does this compare to Diawa Steez SV $399 reel
Thanks for the video!
What do you think the best all around baitcaster is? Like for lures, Jigs, Etc... Something that is good for anything. Thanks.
alex baus Shimano curado is most popular
what do you mean with light cause for me light is xrap4 wich i have catched a 2 kg blufish!!
Do you ever fish in pickwick
Does your handle have back play cause I fell like mine has too much back play for a four hundred dollar reel
Hey man, I just wanna say I'm huge fan, if your even down in Ontario let me know man
Tanner Scanlan Thanks dude. I am in need of a brown fish fix
What's your favorite bait to use around cover in spring
Built for Bassin watch his newest video

Hi What type n brand mono u put on this reel, Is braid better , if so what PE rated line...thks
Nice video thanks for sharing
Lakeforkguy what do u recommend for a good baitcaster for saltwater fishing would really appreciate it thanks.
how would u compare the new chronarch mg to this reel?
If you were to spool this up with some 20-pound maxquatro power pro w/ a fluorocarbon leader would it be good for jerkbaits and cranks? Or is the Daiwa Steez A TW a better choice?

how dose the aldebaran handle 3/8 oz jigs i wanna get it and spool it up with 15# or 20# braid and just use a leader or should i just get the metanium?
what do you do with the fishes that you caught?
how would you compare this reel to other reels near its price range (300-400) revo premier, mgx, core,etc..
Stu Ben i'd owned mgx, premier, black max before turned to shimano aldebaran mg & aldebaran bfs. in my opinion, revos is far away back in all aspects compared to shimano aldebaran. aldebaran is better than abu garcia's high end reels-thrust me! fyi, my daiwa steez is resting in the tackle box ever since i have aldebarans in my hand :)
how do you like the alderbaran compared to the metanium?
***** Lighter, shallower spool, lower gear ratio and no micro gearing like Metanium
Best real ever fisch..Shimano Aldebaran BFS xg..super only 130gr
Does the Aldebaran have micro gear modules like the Metaniums?
Jet Pham-Ton yes. It is a baby version of the Metanium. I chose this over the Aldebaran because of the spool.
I'm still waiting on your review on the new Shimano rod, Zodias! Great video, but i'll keep waiting ;)
What line are you using in this video?
is this really worth the money though? I have a birthday coming up and I have about $500 I can spend and I wanted to pick this reel up but I can't really find any good finesse reels that will throw light lures and be as light as this reel
look into daiwa finesse reels.
alphas sv 105
or the new daiwa sv 105
cheaper than the shimano but every bit a good..in fact I like then better.
Guys which should i buy...Shimano Aldebaran vs Daiwa SS Sv..i will be pairing the reel with a ML 7ft rod....plz reply i need help
I'd go with the daiwa sv 105.
+mojo jojo I prefer diawa and Lews. I believe shimano are over priced and that there are better reels
I miss the old school informative vids, just like the old Kanye.

Great tacklr doesn't make shitty fisherman pro. Something a lot people have to understand. And bad days will always exist
70 bucks will get you a complete combo 🤦♂️
mantappp,,,boskuh
Do they have it in the 200 size
daniel gomes only 50 size. Your looking at the new CORE
Shimano should get the aldebaran in 200 size
daniel gomes the Aldebaran is the JDM version of the Core 50 and the Metanium is the JDM version of the Core 100, so they'll probably come out with a 2015 Metanium 100 and it will be like this except in a 100 size. Are you only allowed to promote shimano? I'd like to see the best baitcast reels/rods out there under $100
+Frankie Mireles pretty sure shimano is a sponsor of his
Shimano don't tell you that they don't keep spares for this reel.
i want...please
I don't think I'd use this reel for saltwater lfg lol

Japan !!!!
I used a baitcaster once threw it right away when i got a fish
Why?
No drag sound
This is the most dumb, stupid comment I have ever seen
This thing cost way more than the lew's. Magnesium will rust like hell quick. Lew's isn't made of magnesium like this.
Magnesium rust? What chemistry courses have you taken?
LilAznFishinDude well technically it doesn't rust cause its not iron or steel but it does corrode extremely fast if saltwater gets to it.
Of course it costs more. Lews are cookie cutter reels made by Doyo in Korea along side revos, bps, and pfluegers. Lews just designs their reels from what's available from the Doyo catalog. Shimano develops, designs, and manufacturer their own reels in their own factories.

Just get a lew's team lite. Lmao.
You wont get the same experience as buying a shimano, shimano is top towr6
Hey this seems like a good reel oh wait it's 400 dollars ya f that
Pronounced - All da ba ron
My god it is expensive
first
$420!!
Way over priced,,,,
To much money for a reel, the caenan or casitas just as good
Have you used this reel? If you have, you would have never said that.......
You are right about the frame. But no silent tune, x-ship, and micro module gearing. Not the same components man.
Caenan or Casitas? Totally different class. Sounds like you haven't even touched the Aldebaran. We are talking about a top shelf reel here. There is no comparison whatsoever.
I don’t think this reel is like the caenan or casitas, but I do think it can match up to the curators k.
