Building a Shed for Garbage Containers

  • To remove those ugly garbage containers from plain sight I'm building an enclosure that houses them. It will be a minimalistic designed shed, that houses 2 containers. If you have more or fewer trash cans then you can obviously adapt the design to match those requirements. The idea behind this shed is that it's simple and doesn't stand out. Stick around I will show you how I build it!

    love your design and build... especially the clean lines and minimalism. Also love how it can be disassembled and transported. Brilliant.

    That is the nicest trash shed I’ve ever seen! Nice touch adding the wires to also open the trash can lid.

    Brilliant. And the magnets won’t rust!

      Fair point but to this day they are still looking fine. I think that's probably because of the epoxy that it's covered in.

    Great video with some ideas I'll use myself. Namely the feet on the underside and the magnets to secure the doors. Im planning on building one for 4 bins. Thanks for the info.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this video very informative and instructions very clear i am tempted to try this one myself, as my old one is falling apart now, got 10 years out of it making it up as i went along. I noticed when setting up in end location the floor was missing, did you choose not to use floor in the end ?

    • @CornerfieldShop
      @CornerfieldShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Claire! I did decide against the floor since it made putting the bins into the shed more difficult. This way it's much easier to use.

    Great work and love the color, exactly what I want. Do you remember to cost of the materials? Wish you were in NJ LOL = SALE!

    • @CornerfieldShop
      @CornerfieldShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris! The materials where about 150 euros at the time but looking at prices I'm not so sure that is realistic now...

    Love the final product in terms of construction and design. Few questions: Does the front upper piece that support lids interfere with bin removal? 2. I need to build a shed for 3 containers - do you suggest put add a supporting walls/framing between containers? 3. What is the rough material sheet for this build. Trying to estimate how much wood I need for 3-sections.Thanks!

    You might want to edit out the whole floor build section for simplicity. There's no floor mentioned in the beginning and there's no sign of it at the end.

      Thank you Joseph, apologies for the late reply. Missed the notification. I don't know the exact brand anymore. But it was definitely Dutch which I'm guessing is not in your area... Hope you found an alternative that works for you in the meantime!

    Your joinery is beautiful, but this is a small garden or garbage shed. There are simpler ways of doing the same functional joints. That way you have more time for other projects. In other words, very nice work, but you make it overly complex.

    I would like to make this but I don't have table saw machine. Any suggestions?

    • @CornerfieldShop
      @CornerfieldShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you have a circular saw? Or a jig saw? Either one of those can do the bulk of the cuts. The joinery can be done with a pull saw. These saws are relatively inexpensive but very good at cutting joinery. If you want inspiration on how to make things with very little tools you should check out homemade modern. They build almost anything with 3 or 4 battery powered tools. Incredibly inspiring 😄👍

    Looks nice, but seems over engineered. Those hooks to the lid arent going to be used more than a few times before it becomes too annoying and people just pull the bin out to open it. Putting a gas strut on the roof or raising the roof height is how other people enable the bin to be opened in situ

    • @CornerfieldShop
      @CornerfieldShop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree that the hooks aren't ideal but there wasn't any budget for the gas strut's. So I had to get creative and they like it so far. Only mistake I made was that I forget to take into account the length of the users. I should have made it a little less tall. You live and learn.

    What type off wood did you use for the project

    • @CornerfieldShop
      @CornerfieldShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used Pine. Or as the Dutch say Vuren.

    • @carlcousins1225
      @carlcousins1225 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live in a wet country what would I used to protect the wood

    • @CornerfieldShop
      @CornerfieldShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. I think if the wood gets wet all the time you are better off using a harder wood, making sure the gaps are big enough for the wood to move and place it off the foundation it's standing on. If the wood isn't in your budget perhaps consider pressure treated lumber. Or use what I did, which is a stain with protective properties. Not sure if this is available where you live but they would know in your local hardware store.
