  • In this video I give you a simple step by step plan to build a stylish and secure garbage can enclosure to keep pests out and keep the garbage in.
    I use all pressure treated lumber, with common lumber sizes so that you don't have to source anything custom.
    For a list of the tools used in the video see all links below:
    Bosch 12" Mitre Saw amzn.to/35JxCJU
    Bosch Vacuum amzn.to/3ckqI0m

    Ridgid Impact Driver amzn.to/35L1bLf
    Ryobi Narrow Crown Stapler amzn.to/3ciXZsB
    Garbage Cans
    Gate Hinges
    Door Latch

    As I'm new to trying some of these types of things.. are there instructions anywhere? The video was so helpful... but having steps I can look at often help. I can write things down if nothing out there, but wondered if there were already. Thanks and great video!

      Sorry this is a custom build. Not sure if listening to my audio and typing it out would help. But the best part I find with videos is you can pause and play back. The intro does give an exact material list.

    If I missed it I apologize ahead, but if you weren't recording, roughly what kind of time frame do you think this would take to build?

  • @mfrumento

    I'm sorry for all the questions, if I want a pneumatic lift to keep the lid open and not slam shut, do you have a recommendation? Thanks so much!

    • @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer
      @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pneumatic I don't. But some door dampers on richelieu or lee valley tools to slow the lid closing. There's interior door openers but if it's outside this would likely compromise the actuator.

    Would it be better to use pocket hole screw as opposed to screwing into the end grain when building the frame?

    • @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer
      @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's up to you, I would pocket hole something I was doing for a more detailed finish but easier assembly and time I did this method. It's still holding together perfectly and we have transitioned it into a toy bin for outside toys. Which is harder on the frame than if it was garbage.

    what do you do to make sure both front doors close and align evenly?My 2 front doors close fine and latch but one door is more out-front than the other door

    • @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer
      @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is either the lumber twisting or the frame being out of square. I use the slide bolts on the doors to help hold them true.

    How much lower is the front than the back? What is the pitch of the lid? I’ve never built anything like this before but ready to try it.

    • @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer
      @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The lid has a 2" slope, but you can always adjust this based on your own garbage cans. We actually use this to store kids toys now outside!

    • @HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer
