This is the first of a two part video where I share my trash can storage shed build with you. I have been looking at these trash bins in the corner of the back yard since we moved into this house, and have been looking forward to building a proper storage shed for them. April, after watching most of your videos and how you have progressed from doing great projects in your shop, to moving outside your shop, it wouldn't surprise me you build a larger structure like a bigger shed or outbuilding. Thanks for this April. I used it as the template to create a garbage bin at the cottage from wood I salvaged from an old deck using 2x4s and 1x6s so it was bear proof. Good luck with your channel!

Awesome. I think the best tip you gave was in reference to those fence pickets shrinking. Boy, do they shrink...esp in the TX rain and heat. Ditto here in OKC. Great video/project.
Yep. I'm in Houston. I don't space pickets or deck boards. New boards have so much moisture in them that they create their own space when they dry.

Great project and it could be used for storing other stuff. I like the router with flush cutting bit way better chips.
I have been doing wood working projects for some 50 years and yet i always learn something from watching your videos so thanks very much. Using the router to do a straight cut on the paling top cut is something I learnt this time. I always use a power saw and cut to a line but paling to paling I always get a bit of drift in the cut. I think the router will make a better cut and cant wait to use it on a future job. Thanks again.
: ) That's great to hear. From now on I'll also use the router. Not only was it quicker but it makes a cleaner cut.

Excellent, I don't know how I stumbled upon you but you are true diyer that always figures it out and makes a excellent video that keeps me watching. The only thing I would have done different would be to incorporate cedar wood into to the roof to help with prevention of wasp nests. I did the same thing not as grand as your enclosure but always had the wasp squatters waiting to nail me when it was time to drag the cans to the curb. A lot of insects don't like cedar including the stinging kind, but please keep producing the videos, your a natural.

You made such a nice enclosure for those cans. 0:33 I cut my fingers that way a week ago because the guard was jamming and I had to hold it up. I have two stitches now. I want to help people from making the same mistake I did. I really like your projects.
I've got to do this, but am planning on only doing a fence going around the outside since we currently have a cement slab the trash cans rest on. It's going to have to wait as I have two projects already planned for the summer (an industrial sewing table and a coffee bar cart).

Try bagez garbage bag holders to keep your bins clean by using any bag to line your bins. Helps keep critters away because your bins are not dirty

Good project, tiny house for the trash bins. You mentioned rain in your vid, hope your not close to any of that flooding in Texas. I know what those people are going through. I lost my house about 4 yrs ago when Irene hit upstate NY. It's one way of getting rid of all the junk that one gathers over the years. we're back to normal now with a lot less junk. will be looking forward to part two.

Historically massive rain here in my city, last month was a record breaker and this month has already started above average. Currently my two rubbish containers have broken lids, the city is supposed to come and replace them by tomorrow (Monday.) your project is an excellent one for my situation, just not until I finish repairing the hail damage and rotten window trim. We will overcome (given enough chocolate and Dr. Pepper.)

I'm sure you already know, but when you're laying the decking down if you start in the center you'll get matched planks at each end. Alternatively if you ever want to be fancy you can run the distance on a Construction Master 5 calc and it'll give you the rip width for every board so they'll all be the same in the space you're laying 'em down in. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for walking through the process of getting everything square! Where we live in Ontario we'd need to have a stone layer down, anytime wood is on dirt it just crumbles in a few years.
This was still very relevant and helpful despite it being one of your older video's. You've come so far over the years but you had great skills even back when you started. Hi I'm always excited about your projects, nice job ;). But I have few improvements in my mind that, I would rather change the position of bottom boards (rotate 90° in order to have longer side level with ground) because I think it will bend under the weight of thrash can (and maybe add 2 more). Then the other one, after I saw "test fit" I think that it would be quite difficult for you to take out the trash can if it will be full of trash(maybe small change of design?). And last one, I know that the project is still ongoing so I still hope in corner of my heart that you would create some concrete base under it. :) keep going in good job ;)

Just a little suggestion. We have these bins in the UK and most of the enclosures for them have the roof angled down towards the back so once the bin is in you can still lift the lid without having to pull it out. Don't know if you thought of that or if there was a reason the roof angles towards the front so thought I'd post a comment. Anyway absolutely love your videos, thanks for sharing all your projects :)

Great project! We built an entire chicken coop using those same boards. I also use them all over our haunted attraction. I love 'em. I really enjoy your videos.

In part 2, I'd love for you to say what your approximate costs were. This is a project I'd be tempted to do for log storage, while they dry. I'm in Phoenix, so wood dries too fast outdoors. I need something to keep them out of the sun, and I'm tempted by a plastic garbage can shed at Costco. But building one would be a lot more rewarding, as long as it's not prohibitively expensive.
