Gorgeous animals! These leucistic opposums remind me of rats more than "normal" possums do, but that's not a bad thing. I've had many pet rats, and they're also sweet, and love grapes!
I hope someone breeds Opossums to live longer so that they can become popular pets. I hear that there some wild populations that live longer than average.
I think their lifespans could be slightly increased with a captive breeding program, but not by much. This is literally in their genes to reproduce quickly and then pass away. It was very adaptive considering the environment they evolved in about 65 million years ago. They were surrounded by dinosaurs and the only sure strategy to pass their genes on was to mature early and reproduce quickly before they got eaten by predators. They are an extreme example of an "R-Selected" species. Look it up.

Kricket is still around, but sadly Keebler passed away. She was so heartbroken as her mommy was too. 😢💔

@@koreyb I believe you, but selective breeding can be effective. Evolution wouldn't work if the nature of an animal was too ingrained to be changed.
