Excellent idea to turn off return to home when indoors! Didn't think of that. What kind of damage would this thing do if you hit the blades with your hands?
Very helpful video, not everyone knows this info. The simplest things are often pverlooked. Also, Autofocus is enabled now, but its still good to keep an eye on WHERE it focuses.
very helpful and informative Video! another small Thing that i didn't know and was very thankful to learn about: for smoother camera movements, you can adjust the gimbal Speed and (especially) the pitch buffer. Looks a lot better in my opinion.
I just got my Mavic Pro about 4 days ago and I was just flying around in my backyard trying to get a feel for it before taking it out in the world when the app crashed and it immediately initiated the RTH sending it straight up into a tree. Pulling down on the stick did nothing and it just started to destroy the tree and eventually went like a missile into the ground. My heart stopped and I stood there looking at what I thought was the quickest $1,000 I have ever lost. Amazingly the Mavic is built very well and other than 2 of my props exploding and some dirt that needed to be cleaned off there wasn't a scratch on it. I spent the next 5 min. going through the menu and looking for that feature to be turned off so that wouldn't happen again. I have since found myself creating a small pre-flight checklist to have with the drone before I set off so I remember to change the settings depending on my location and surroundings. I also suggest that everyone pay the extra $100 for the DJI Care Refresh as that will certainly give you a greater peace of mind when flying.
Cameron, good idea about the check list. You need to always remember to adjust your return to home altitude before each flight for the surroundings you will be in. You can stop the return to home on the controller even if the app crashes. There is a stop button on the controller that will make the Mavic hover in place at anytime.
I just got mine a couple days ago. I was nervous flying it after all the issues I've seen on youtube but after watching alot are user error. Like always good video! Thanks
I had an indoor Tripod Mode crash that I mentioned on an early video. Update! They are covering it under warranty and stated, "Warranty per flight data analysis." I really think there could be in issue with the sensors and glass - but thankful of the great support from DJI.
I took the inner molded pieces from the packing the Mavic came in and mounted it in a small hard shell case that has foam rubber in it. There was also extra space for other items such as spare battery, filters and spare blades.
Hey thanks for the tips...I justtttt got my mavic pro and veryyyy happy.. I'm kinda scared to start up up for the first time. I'm wondering about a fee things before I start up first time. First .. should i use remote only first and then once getbthe hang ..then connect tablet for video and all the fancy stuff....second .I'm wondering about the switch in the side by the sd card. It says wifi/Rc. Wondering what thats for..and when do I mess wirh it. And where does it need to be for startup. And lastly. Is there a video that walks a person like me thru turn on all the way thru to take off and flying.....im.sure I can figure it out but I finally got a mavic and I'll be dammed if I crash it right after I getbit in the air cuz I'm not sure what's going on. Haha. ..so anymore help other than what I've seen from u would be soooooo appreciated...Chris Patterson. Disabled/retired ..p.s...mainly i want to be able to take off and fly and impress my kid ..not crash and get laughed at. Not to mention the money and time it costed me. I'll never get another chance to own one. So I got to be sure and careful!:):) Thanks again
Yes - that was shot early in my Mavic flying days. I have become much better at the DJI Go app since then, but the Mavic still sometimes has soft focus in areas on the screen.
Thank you very much for this video. I am a new Drone Pilot and I purchased the Mavic Pro. I am looking to learn all that I can. Thanks for all your work!
Thanks again for the videos. Just got my mavic pro today. Should I use DJI Go or DJI Go 4 ? I think I have to do a firmware update also because it’s not syncing
formatting the SD card doesn't need to be done every time you erase footage. It is a good practice and it only takes couple minutes to do but it's perfectly fine doing this once a month or so. It'll also prolong the life of your SD card.
Great tips, as a new user, had my Mavic a week now, and not even taken to the air yet!!! One question, I am coming to US in October (from UK) and want to bring my Mavic (as you have way better beaches, bluer sea's and palm trees), do I need to register with FAA ahead if visiting? Also anyone know if I need to get permission from US customs, etc.
I sure am glad you do these videos because I'm one of your followers and a subscriber I just got my Mavic today so I'm turning into what you have to say that'll benefit me so thanks for all the work that you do I really appreciate you
Yes, be careful hand catching. BTW, when catching the P4 you can be safer than you demonstrated. 1. Never grab the P4 with your fingers on the stick. The craft should not be moving when you grab it. 2. Hover the craft 1' above your head, about 5' away. 3. After the hover proves stable, with your hand OFF THE STICKS, slowly walk to the drone and grab a leg. 4. With a firm grip on a leg, hold it above your head in place and THEN touch the left stick, full down to turn off. 5. AFTER motors turn off above your head, then lower the drone down to turn off the battery.
The way you had your landing pad stakes they stick up quite a ways, high enough the rear props will hit them. If you put the stakes in the ground at an angle they won't stick up so high, and is usually easier to push in the ground. I always Move files off my SD card to the computer rather than Copy them, then I never have to worry about "did I copy them or not?" (on PC drag, press Shift, then drop.)
great video. I do have a question that I can not seem to find. I was going to get a iPod touch 6th gen for the controller so i do not have to take my phone in and out of the controller. I learned that the map option wont work since no GPS. So i was wondering if a old iPhone that has no active service from a cell provider would work to avoid this?
Ready Set Drone thank you man , new to this aspect of the hobby , been flying toy grade only lol aside from a Hubsan 501 , so all this stuff about apps etc is very daunting
Great tips!! I have the same case as yours almost identical in every way except it could hold one more battery but I love the backpack style much better than the suitcase Style.. The only problem I have with my landing gear which I haven't used yet is I'm curious if it causes the wind to take it more and decreased battery life? What are your experiences with the landing gear in that regard..
Nice tips but just don't fly indoors. My new Mavic came crashing down within one or two second it took off. I tried to save it by catching it, but was rather too late and one of the propellers took a good chip of my fingernail. I am not sure why it drifted, probably the ambient light is too low for the sensors.
the gimbal cover has a slit on the side to draw air into the quad. I recommend drilling holes into the bottom of the cover or a single big hole to enhance ventilation. tip: start with a small bit and tape the area to prevent cracking the plastic. I think registration has been waved for hobbiest as of now... this is ONLY what I HEARD I have not researched it yet.
Just my thoughts, this camera does have AFC it’s it automatic, I’m a photographer and many cameras video have auto focus, now if they do it well is in question. I’ll start hitting more often because I’m not really happy with the sharpness of 4K video, even on my DJI Action 2 camera. Too bad DJI most likely won’t update the software anymore for the Mavic Pro, my brother gifted his older drone to me I’m just starting to get into it. Enjoying it a lot.
Did you use a plain printed label for your FAA number or something permanent? I'm getting mine soon, and saw where they want you to permanently affix it to the drone, either with a permanent label or engraved and im not too keen on doing that since I might sell it in the future if I upgrade to a better one.
Not sure if someone has already said this, but you can leave the camera dome on during flight. DJI even recommends leaving it on, there is very very little chance of overheating. Of course you may want to take it off to prevent lense flare.
There is a backside of every coin. Also with DJI and its drones. They are fabulous, absolutely. Five big stars for the product. But if you have problem and need repair, DJI doesn’t even deserve one star. Before you can ship your drone for repair, you have to go through the most draconian DJI procedures, which looks like they are engineered, not in order to support you, but in order to keep you at bay. One thing weird DJI ask for before they even consider your drone for warranted service is that you download files from the drone - in my case 26 MB - and upload them to one of their sites. The procedure is very complicated and time absorbing, and it is almost impossible to figure out how to do it. Can you imagine what would happen if BMW asked you to bring your laptop to your carport and then connect it to the inboard computer in the cars engine room. And then upload it to a BMW server. And if you didn’t do that, they would’nt even consider to service your BMW. There would be uproar. This is however one of DJI’s tricks to obstruct you. It took an IT-pro and myself three hours to figure out how to send the files to DJI, just to run into the fact that the DJI site did not want to accept my password. The site said “we will send you a new password.” We tried several times, they never send a new password. You can not return a drone to DJI if you haven’t kept the original box. You can not deliver a drone yourself to their service-center. I have bought a protection plan, they couldn't care less. I did send all facts and a serial number one month ago. Suddenly they ask for copy of invoice and a serial number. Today they ask for a tracking number. It always back to step one with DJI. And most of the communication with them is with a robot which tell you to go to their website. They spam you with robot answers and you get nowhere. My crash was 9 February and I still haven't been able to fulfil all their demands to service my drone. However I have got 16 emails from DJI where they ask me how I value their service. Needless to say not very high. And do not buy a protection plan where they promise you replacement two times if you crash your Mavic. Too good to be true, but expensive. Michael Smith Fmr. Do yourself a favor - get a Syma X5C first, get used to flying it, then get a Mavic Pro. The Mavic Pro is easier to fly, but Syma X5C will make you a more confident, better pilot. Thanks for watching!
Is this a great drone to start out with? It might be on the expensive side, but would you say someone who don't have a drone and know how to fly this should get it as their first? I'm not quite sure.
Great tips, but I have some comments about some of them. Tip #1 There are camera covers available that are open on the front for cooling. They are called 'glare shields'. They will provide some gimbal protection, in case of a rough landing, and still allow proper cooling. Tip #3 Don't forget that with foam inserts (or anything like that), you can cut out material as needed to better fit your equipment. It's yours, customize it to suit you. Tip #10 If you do fly frequently, then certainly keep your batteries fully charged. But if you are going to store the drone for an extended time (like 1 month or more), it's recommended to keep them charged to only 50% for best battery life.
Dude - where are you. Looks like Central Texas. Thanks for the tips - good stuff. Just got mine and finding a lot of great info on you tube. Like yours. Appreciate it.
Cool. Me too. Don't know if there is a support group for drone-aholics or something around in the area where people gather to get ideas about other crap they need to buy, but if so let me know. I'd like to join you guys! Take care!
Gerd Staudenmaier That hole will help slow down the overheating process. If the vents are not wide open, they are restricted. This may not hurt the machine for certain, but it may.
Many thanks for posting these great tips. Especially agree with the hand catching part, wished I'd watched your video earlier, I hand caught my Mavic, it bites hard, nearly tore a fingernail off!
You say take the gimble cover before flying makes senes , but DJI shows their videos with them flying with gimble cover on ? just wondering why would they do that if it's meant to come off?
How long will you be in the US? I'd say if you are here for more than 2 weeks or so, you should register and get a number. It's pretty easy and only costs $5 USD. www.faa.gov for more info.
Yep already have registered it on FAA web site. :) is there anything else I should be doing when travelling and taking the drone domestic flights in US? I am already taking the batteries with my hand luggage and planning taking the drone in hand luggage as well. Well that attract any attention? I'm there just over 2 weeks before heading to Canada via British Columbia. Thanks again for you help.
Hi thank you four your video I'm lucking on internet to by a camera mudelo is very difficult to find in uk I'm in Jersey uk can you please help me if you can if you now where I can by a new lens ( Mudelo ) many thks Regards
In my experience, you can hand catch the mavic safely, if do it right. I've found that more often than not, I don't have a flat, dust free surface to take off from, or land on, so hand catching is a skill that you just can't skip learning. The best way to do it is to lay your hand flat in front of you, and bring your left stick all the way down, and when the drone touches your hand, you grab it by the sides. Be aware that when the drone senses your hand, it may think it's an obstacle and will go back up a little. If that happens just keep the left stick down and the drone will come back down again and land on your hand without complaint. I hope this info is useful to you guys, but please be careful. They are pretty strong and rather sharp propellers!
Excellent idea to turn off return to home when indoors! Didn't think of that. What kind of damage would this thing do if you hit the blades with your hands?
I've cut my finger on a Mavic before - it stings but was not too bad.
@@readysetdrone good to know! Thanks
After 2 months with my Mavic. It still impresses me every time I fly it. Amazing technology!!
The tip about turning return to home off when flying indoor no one talked about until now thank you .
Very helpful video, not everyone knows this info. The simplest things are often pverlooked.
Also, Autofocus is enabled now, but its still good to keep an eye on WHERE it focuses.
Good point about the registration. If this is your second drone, use the same registration # as the first.
As a new Macic pro platinum owner, I findyour vids very professionel and instructive, Thanks so much
very helpful and informative Video! another small Thing that i didn't know and was very thankful to learn about: for smoother camera movements, you can adjust the gimbal Speed and (especially) the pitch buffer. Looks a lot better in my opinion.

Have you flown it yet?

Cameron I would cry. haha
Cameron what is on your checklist?
The Refresh is money wasted. You will not get you drone back before the end of next year.
dji customer support is pitiful
Thanks boss. had for a bit, but one setting i never changed was the indoors RTH. appreciate the tip. Few years later and still learning things
I just got mine a couple days ago. I was nervous flying it after all the issues I've seen on youtube but after watching alot are user error. Like always good video! Thanks
Another good option for a case is them DJI carrying case for the Mavic. It costs $79 and is also included in the Fly More Combo.
I had an indoor Tripod Mode crash that I mentioned on an early video. Update! They are covering it under warranty and stated, "Warranty per flight data analysis." I really think there could be in issue with the sensors and glass - but thankful of the great support from DJI.
Great tips!! Thank you. I just ordered my DJI Mavic Pro from B&H yesterday.
I don,t have a drone yet but your tips are usefull for later, please go on with reviews
Nice ..... Got my Mavic Pro few days already and love it, it update immediately the firmware just need to look more further on features on it.

I got my Mavic with the fly more combo and it came with a nice bag for it
Great tip on the RTH indoors.
Nice video! Did you notice you have a spot on the top left corner that is out of focus? In this part 12:28 you can see it clearly...
Yes - that was shot early in my Mavic flying days. I have become much better at the DJI Go app since then, but the Mavic still sometimes has soft focus in areas on the screen.
Great tips - especially about avoiding hand-catching. Tks.
What causes a blurry image on the right side of the frame 12:36-47 ?? Did you see that??
Any way thanks for sharing .

Thanks again for the videos. Just got my mavic pro today. Should I use DJI Go or DJI Go 4 ? I think I have to do a firmware update also because it’s not syncing

So im still waiting on my X-star, ill be getting it either tommorow or the day after. If you'd like, i can tell you how it flies
Another great video!! We've been filming the SHARK MIGRATION in 4K with the Mavic and we know you guys will enjoy it!!!
Hi can adjustments be made to the Mavic Pro while it 's Flying, for instance stick control sensitivity and gimbal response and exposure
nice video and I am sure that others just as myself found your video very helpful. Thanks

great videos, finally picking up my mavic tomorrow, cant wait.
Pretty simplistic tips, maybe worthwhile to beginners.
I noticed that at 12:24 when he kids are playing in the park the left side of the video is blurry. What was causing that?
Thanks!
Tom Spurlock great feedback
Tom Spurlock Simple: you do not get all ground dust into your drone.
Xavier Roberts ....the Mavic Pro has short legs. Better to launch and catch if in long grass 😆
I like to land mine on my Crotch
Great video. Thanks for all the tips.
Thanks for the great advices bro!

Cool! Just checked out your channel. Looks like you guys are having fun. Enjoy your travels. The Mavic will be amazing for documenting your journeys!
Ready Set Drone oh cool, thanks for checking us out 😉
Is the fly more combo bag good?
The way you had your landing pad stakes they stick up quite a ways, high enough the rear props will hit them. About the charger storing it in the case,
turn it around and using a knife cut relief into the
foam so it does not the bind wire grommet.
+Bill Rundell Great tip. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! Awesome information!
#8 is very important to know.
great video. I do have a question that I can not seem to find. I was going to get a iPod touch 6th gen for the controller so i do not have to take my phone in and out of the controller. About the manual focus ... I think dji fixed that with the DJI go4 app, it's now auto focus.
Yes it is continous AF now.
Check this guys: Get the DJI Mavic Pro now with an awesome deal from the DJI store: click.dji.com/ADuekO3ld2YzIS_v9Kk?pm=link&as=0001 Check it out!
Mavic Air is fixed focus...
I was kind of hoping you'd show some things you may have tried for the leg extensions you mention in your slide at :38.
before I buy it , will this app work on a Motorola droid , and excellent video too man
The app works on iOS and Android. Does the Motorola droid run Android OS? If so, you should be good.
Ready Set Drone thank you man , new to this aspect of the hobby , been flying toy grade only lol aside from a Hubsan 501 , so all this stuff about apps etc is very daunting
The Hubsan 501 is awesome. But the Mavic is amazing - very much worth the upgrade. Safe flying!
good info thanks. I was wondering about carry on to airplane. so thanks for covering that.

Nice tips but just don't fly indoors. My new Mavic came crashing down within one or two second it took off. I tried to save it by catching it, but was rather too late and one of the propellers took a good chip of my fingernail. A little late on the advice here, but use a knife to cut a small relief into the foam. I'm glad to find another cord obsessive.
your spot on there because a few weeks ago I nearly cut the top of my nuckle off very dangerous indeed.
Thanks for the video. Kind of distracting though when you often look at the camera on your right.
I'm a nerd, not an actor. Thanks for watching though!
My comment was meant to be constructive. I sense that it was not understood such and I apologize.

Tip #10 If you do fly frequently, then certainly keep your batteries fully charged. But if you are going to store the drone for an extended time (like 1 month or more), it's recommended to keep them charged to only 50% for best battery life.
Awesome tips! Thanks for the comment.
Dude - where are you. Looks like Central Texas. Thanks for the tips - good stuff. Just got mine and finding a lot of great info on you tube. Like yours. Appreciate it.
Austin. Thanks for watching!
Cool. Me too. Don't know if there is a support group for drone-aholics or something around in the area where people gather to get ideas about other crap they need to buy, but if so let me know. I'd like to join you guys! Take care!
Thanks for the tips !
The RTH settings for indoors was actually pretty useful to learn, most of the other stuff is common sense though.
I have drilled a 20mm hole into the flat right side of the gimbal cover to ensure enough aitflow while the cover is attached.
Gerd Staudenmaier That hole will help slow down the overheating process. If the vents are not wide open, they are restricted. This may not hurt the machine for certain, but it may.
Also found some cool spring loaded landing gear
great close video words i´d like it congratulations!!!
Very helpful video. Thank you.
Where can you order the clear plastic camera protector?
Many thanks for posting these great tips. Especially agree with the hand catching part, wished I'd watched your video earlier, I hand caught my Mavic, it bites hard, nearly tore a fingernail off!
thank you for tips
This guy is a straight pro

Ready Set Drone cool. where do I send email? thanks!
You say take the gimble cover before flying makes senes , but DJI shows their videos with them flying with gimble cover on ? just wondering why would they do that if it's meant to come off?
How long does the battery last for per charge? Please.
Dave
UK
Around 20 minutes until it is at 20%.
dood, watch out for that kite at the end! sketchy!
Awesome video
Thanks a lot. Great Videos
Great video!!
if you're in situation that you think you need to hand-catch, how did you take off in the first place?
You generally need less space to take off than you need to land.
If your from the uk and visiting the USA with my mavic. How does that work with the FAA ? Do I need to register ahead of my arrival
You don't. The FAA registration requirement has been reversed and is no longer necessary.
Any advice for drone users coming coming from overseas? Do we still need to register with FAA?
How long will you be in the US? I'd say if you are here for more than 2 weeks or so, you should register and get a number. It's pretty easy and only costs $5 USD. www.faa.gov for more info.
Yep already have registered it on FAA web site. :) is there anything else I should be doing when travelling and taking the drone domestic flights in US? I am already taking the batteries with my hand luggage and planning taking the drone in hand luggage as well. Well that attract any attention?
I'm there just over 2 weeks before heading to Canada via British Columbia.
Thanks again for you help.
Great, thx for the tips! :D

Great tips thanks !!
excellent video - from me a complete view - I buy soon Mavic
what SD card do you recommend and use for the Mavic?
Speedy2246 - yes please advise/recommend. Thanks.
What's the go to quad Mavic or P4P?
Agreed 100% ! Thanks for the comment!
