Fair point, but the microphone on the decibel meter has a directional pickup pattern, so us talking behind the meter has very little impact. Thanks for watching.
Would have been a better test to hold the drone in one spot and sit the mic in one spot so that the position is exactly the same. I get it, just a simple comparison and the platinum is noticeably quieter.
I know first hand between the two that the original Mavic Pro is much more stable in high wind then the Platinum. The more efficient ESC and quieter props do have a practical downside - ability to stabilise and fly against strong wind. With the Pro I’ve never had an issue even in strong wind, a lil genius of an aircraft. The Platinum though can’t stabilise or hold position - very noticeably gets blown away in comparable wind. Working with them commercially to observe and take field data this is very important
Don't get us wrong. It's a very good video , and I even like the fact that the two teamed up to educate us about drones and show how we are all one people whether light skin or dark skin. Respect for that. As human beings we all make mistakes. And this is why TH-cam allows comments to correct ourselves. That's y I said it's just my thoughts. Again...good video.
The escs shouldn't make a difference in flight time, the new escs are most likely running a digital protocol which allows for smoother flight rather than longer flights
One more point is that the Platinum runs at lower RPM because my guess is the props have a steeper pitch. With that in mind, I would not run the props on the old one because it might damage the ESC with a load they are not designed for.
Great video, love the quaity and depth however when reading the DB's on the sound test, your voice wouldve increassed the sound the meter picked up so not sure how that wouldve effected the results
Great vid . I currently own the Platinum and couldn't be happier. Quick question...What model Oakley sunglasses are those ? I currently have the turbines but really like the look of those.
Great job, thanks guys. I wonder if the lower rpm on the grey Mavic with new blades will be more demanding on the motors in the way of torque (the thrust or lift required has not changed)? If that was the case, motor life could be reduced.
Thanks for the video. Great comparison. Is it possible the dB was increasing as you we speaking the numbers? When you started speaking, you literally counted up, 89, 90, 91.... I have no idea. Just wondering if those meters are omni-directional?
I actually do noise metering a lot in my profession. 3dBA difference is double (or half) the noise level. In reality its a different story because noise is perceived very individually.
Well done, guys. On the flight time tests, I think you need to account for the fact that you used the new Mavic Platinum batteries for both drones; could it be that the Platinum batteries are optimised to improve flight (in the Platinum drone) and may therefore account for why both drones only show a slight variation in flight times? What if you tested the drones with their respective custom batteries?
When you first spoke about RPMs you said the platinum had 480 475 490. At the end of the video when you tried the low noise propellers on mavic pro you said that the platinum's were 450. So which one is correct? I have the platinum and is about 495-500 when hovering.
Were you also getting wind noise from the down draft of the props during your sound test ... Could you redo with the sound meter next to the drone, vs under the drone.
Also, some of the sound being picked up in the db meter was probably the sound generated when the air hit the microphone. Needed to keep the mike out of the slipstream to get a good reading.
That's why the readings go up and down all the time, the drone is making a constant noise, you would not expect such a big variation. I guess it's the first time you have ever done a decibel test?
Sir, When your Mavic boots, Does it passes through NFZ message ? I've got my Mavic in June 2017. Never fly in restricted zone (NFZ). It allways booted without NFZ. Then in September I visited Alabama Huntsville Space Center. I try to take off with my Mavic. And now after that atempt in Space Center Mavic all-time boots and shows for about 15seconds NFZ message.
The perfect sound measurement would be if they were held in place with something and measured from exactly the same distance, because while flying it's hard to keep the same distance. A few cm makes a lot of difference. The new one is still going to be much quieter like you tested, but the exact difference may differ.
How do you know that it wasn't the props alone? Other comparison videos using the new props on the non platinum are gaining 1 minute off flight time as well with the old mavic pro.
Looking at getting my first drone this Christmas. Looking at the mavic pro versus the mavic 2 Pro. Not sure if I should spend that much money on the mavic 2 Pro as my first drone. What would you recommend? We actually have three weddings coming up this year oh, and I thought it would be cool to use the Drone to video and take photos.
Awesome video! I just got my Mavic Pro today after using a Spark for 3 months. This video was very informative, new platinum props already purchased and on route
Here's something you should test for. The Mavic Platinum was slow to wind up so does that effect performance if racing. I mean does the prop response show slippage when making extreme flight changes. Is it even noticeable. I'm thinking the slow start up is slippage between the motor and the blades at first start and then they sync once the blades are in motion but I could be wrong. There could be an efficiency factor designed into how much juice is used to start up which could add a few seconds to flight time.
Nope - there is no slippage between the motors and the blades. The spin up is designed do work that way. Not sure why, but it is definitely not slippage. The Mavic is not really a racing drone, but it is super fast in Sport mode!
Are prop diameters and pitch the same? It may be a lower rpm because the pitch is higher. The new esc may be tuned for a higher pitch? Are the motors identical? Are the KV ratings on the motors the same?
Where is the best places you recommend to buy dji marvic pro or platinum ? I’m thinking to buy one at Walmart because there a lot cheaper and no cost for restocking fee but I saw couple bad reviews there . I’m so confusing .need your help please!
So glad you did the penultimate test with the later props on the Mavic Pro 1. I have the MP1, with later style props and was willing you, from my sofa, to do the test.
I'm a realtor who wants to use my mavic for photos only. Will one of these stay more stable in the wind vs the other or do they have the same stability and object detection?
Great video guys, just got out of surgery and was awesome to be able to watch you guys togother again. Keep up the great work Kelly and B and of course all the guys behind the scenes. Love you keep it real with the dog interrupting. It happens to all of us, lol. Cheer and Happy Flying guys!!!
audio take close 1 meter is standard distance typical and how close the mike is really counts significantly more so than angular position especially when the foam cover is on an omni mke.
Don't the lithium batteries gain a tiny bit of strength after a few charges? I would be curious to see the results after the new Mavic has been flown a few times.
I have heard that same thing about the batteries. And these were brand new batteries at the time, so you may get a few more seconds of flight after you cycle the batteries a few times.
Actually, -10dB is halving the perceived volume, but 1/10th the acoustic energy. A 3dB difference is what is considered a 'noticeable' difference in volume by most listeners, but is a factor of 2 in acoustic energy. So your statement may be misleading as 'intensity' suggests human perception of sound, which would only be 'noticeable'.
great video Sir! why did it keep drifting? i thought the Mavic is rock steady! i dont understand why it will last longer in forward flight then hovering
Would of been interesting to take the temp of the motors after the flight/hover test..If one is more efficient than the other it should run cooler also i would think..
Just a side note I am sure someone else said below somewhere but the RPM is not the only thing that affects battery. When changing props they might have a different pitch so to move the same amount of air it can use a lower RPM but require more power. Think biking in a really high gear. You might be pedaling slower but having to push on the pedals harder. Two motors using the same amount of power but one turning a prop with a steeper pitch will have a slower RPM. The decrease in sound is likely due to the lower RPM and less turbulent noise.
Just the info. I was looking for. As of May 2018, I'm on the fence as to waiting for the Mavic Pro II or grabbing the original Mavic on one of these amazing sales I've been seeing. The Mavic Pro II looks like it will be worth waiting for but for the price difference, and my preference for buying something that's been on the market and proven for a while, I think the Platinum may be a good option for me, at least in May 2018 definitely worth the $100 difference. Cheers!
That's great to know, I almost bit on the mavic air but the range/reliability turned me off. Congratulations on a great channel, this is where I do my homework when it's drone shoppin' time!
Thanks again for a great video! I'm a pilot in training, RC plane pilot, and a photographer. I need this drone! Question- If I am flying in safe rural area away from Class B, C an D, airspace and away from ALL airports what is the max altitude for the mavic or Spark? ]\

Question; Has DJI enhanced the build of the gymbal for the Mavic Pro Platinum to avoid the problems some of the standard Mavic Pro's had? Is there any data suggesting a better gymbal on the Platinum? Thanks for the VIDS
I would have liked to see the Platinum props on the Mavic Pro for the sound test. Would there be a big noise difference between them? Would it be better to sell the Pro and get the Platinum or just upgrade to the Platinum props?
Awesome video - could you do the db test again without speaking as the db reader is taking it from your voice, that’s why it kept spiking. Not a true test otherwise.
For me, an extra minute or two is huge for Drone work. But I do like a noisier drone. It helps me to find it in the air when I lose sight which happens more often then I would like.
Whats important when comparing the noise is also the lower frequency of the platinum, which makes the difference in practice even greater, as humans are more prone to higher whistling noises, even if a the same sound level.
We had some issues with vibration in camera with new props on the old Mavic, as the prop have lower RPM so vibration have different frequency, so make sure to test that out .
Great video. Very informative and helpful. I’ve been in the market for my first real (non-toy) drone and, I’ve been looking at the Mavic Pro and the Mavic Air. I had been leaning towards the Pro and now, I think I’m getting the Mavic Pro Platinum based on this video. Thanks for the comprehensive comparison.
Perhaps when your testing for sound, you might try not talking while taking the readings.
Fair point, but the microphone on the decibel meter has a directional pickup pattern, so us talking behind the meter has very little impact. Thanks for watching.
And, of course, *you're**
Lol
He literally watches it switch 3 times, tells what he sees, watches three more changes then speaks... 🤦🏻♂️
Would have been a better test to hold the drone in one spot and sit the mic in one spot so that the position is exactly the same. I get it, just a simple comparison and the platinum is noticeably quieter.
The Platinum puts out a lower frequency too, which is more agreeable to human ears. That makes it seem much quieter than it really is.
Ed Felty exactly, the props change the frequency more than the volume. We hear it less, as does the device.
@unrepeatable raddish YEAH I AGREE, AND THERE NOT £100 LOL around £10
When you do a sound test, stop yapping. The viewers at home want to hear the sound difference between the two drones too.
Will do! Thanks for the comment!
Lol, seriously. "I'm going to test the decibel level by standing just as close as the sound source and shout on top of it!"
agreed, a good video spoilt by annoying verbal decibel readouts during comparison, i wanted to actually hear the drones running not the yapping
Yes, my thoughts exactly! Why shout loudly whilst doing a sound test??
Honestly I am glad your read out the decibel levels since we could not see the meter. Thank you.
11:55 " keep it facing that way and I'll do it from behind" probably the greatest line I've ever heard in a drone related video
The quality of these vids is insane
I know first hand between the two that the original Mavic Pro is much more stable in high wind then the Platinum. The more efficient ESC and quieter props do have a practical downside - ability to stabilise and fly against strong wind. With the Pro I’ve never had an issue even in strong wind, a lil genius of an aircraft. The Platinum though can’t stabilise or hold position - very noticeably gets blown away in comparable wind.
Working with them commercially to observe and take field data this is very important
Best line... "He has two balls in his mouth."
I enjoyed the "...and I'll do it from behind...", myself. :)
Get your mind out of the gutter
🤣
12:43 your voice is louder than the drone, that's why you have to keep changing your numbers.
You are right. They don't realize that ambient noise and vocal projection distort the test values, which nullifies their experiment.
I thing you guys should get a more quiet soundproof room to do the sound test. just my thoughts.
Rabbit Stu & KBOK KB why not you two do your own video and let see the results...
It was just a suggestion, chill out
Don't get us wrong.
Read measurement with eyes. State the measurement aloud. Pause talking. Repeat. What's the problem?
If you want clean sound sure but for this test, as long as the conditions are constant and fixed, which they were, that isn't necessary.
You guys are very professional! Thanks. It is new props for my gray one.
2:04 Why is the image so soft?
the forward movement you speak of is called translational lift effect TLE which happens around 11-15 kts
You're testing how loud they are WHILE SHOUTING LOUDLY SO THE MICROPHONE CAN HEAR YOU OVER THE MAVIC lol.
ffs
So I see that the Pro vs. Platinum has some differences. The Mavic 2 Pro is now out. Can you do a comparison between the 2 and the Platinum?
Did you use the original Mavic battery in the Platinium?
Yes - They are 100% cross compatible and the same.
Yes, I know ;-) The biggest challenge with a test like that is if you use a new vs. old battery, the capacity might not be the same.
Thanks for the good video. It would be interesting, how long the "old" Mavic flies with the new props. Did you test that?
Battery test, on a camera drone, without running the camera?
The escs shouldn't make a difference in flight time, the new escs are most likely running a digital protocol which allows for smoother flight rather than longer flights
One more point is that the Platinum runs at lower RPM because my guess is the props have a steeper pitch. With that in mind, I would not run the props on the old one because it might damage the ESC with a load they are not designed for.
you guys are the best making these vids!
I love to see adult men unite in shared enthusiasm, over technological toys for big boys. 😂
Great video, love the quaity and depth however when reading the DB's on the sound test, your voice wouldve increassed the sound the meter picked up so not sure how that wouldve effected the results

they produce a diffrent freq. in my opinion. the platinum props are larger too. lower rpm
Great video, simple, direct and very useful

Noted. Thanks for the comment.
is that a fact lol

Thanks! We really enjoyed making it.
+pablo9364 Your comment looks fake AF I'd say a generated...
For a real treat, compair the Platinum to the Mavic Air.. The Air sounds like a swarm of bees !
11:57 B laughing at Kelly saying "I'll do it from behind" xD
Where is the best places you recommend to buy dji marvic pro or platinum ? I’m thinking to buy one at Walmart because there a lot cheaper and no cost for restocking fee but I saw couple bad reviews there . I’m so confusing .need your help please!
I buy them directly from DJI. There is a link in the description of my video.
Do you know how long dose warranty cover with out protection plan?
thanks for a great video. Wish I would have seen it before I bought my Mavic drone but I am very happy with it
You guys did a great job breaking it all down! Now I know what to buy so thanks for the effort!
So glad you did the penultimate test with the later props on the Mavic Pro 1. I have the MP1, with later style props and was willing you, from my sofa, to do the test.
Hey! Wich camera was used in the right side? Whats the model?
I'm a realtor who wants to use my mavic for photos only. Will one of these stay more stable in the wind vs the other or do they have the same stability and object detection?
Great video guys, just got out of surgery and was awesome to be able to watch you guys togother again. Keep up the great work Kelly and B and of course all the guys behind the scenes. Love you keep it real with the dog interrupting. It happens to all of us, lol. Cheer and Happy Flying guys!!!
Thanks Donnie - hope you are recovering nicely!
Ready Set Drone I will be back running in no time. 😉👍
AWESOME VIDEO! THANKS FOR SHARING!
Do we have to register/license these MAVIC Pros with any of the local agencies? Thanks, I really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing.
audio take close 1 meter is standard distance typical and how close the mike is really counts significantly more so than angular position especially when the foam cover is on an omni mke.
Awesome works guys!! Feels like a flitetest video!😁
Thanks Casey! This is a big compliment!
11:10 It's not necessarily the ESC and props. You need to repeat that test with the batteries swapped around.
The batteries are exactly the same (except for the color).
Ready Set Drone technically but no two batteries are identical.
Sweet....great review guys.....keep up the good work
10:45 1 mins and 7 secs longer flight. I thought it will be more... : (
Is there a flight simulation / simulator for DJI Mavic Pro?
I'd like to practice before actual flying
also, why have it below the rotters when the wind is blowing on the meter itself, even if it has a wind muff on it
Does the yelling out of the readings have an effect ?
Very important points made and tips thank you very much👍
Awesome! Thanks.

So , the platinum doesn't have a color matched controller ?
Time to order some new props!!! And props to you on the awesome video!! 👍
Thanks!

Just the info. I was looking for. As of May 2018, I'm on the fence as to waiting for the Mavic Pro II or grabbing the original Mavic on one of these amazing sales I've been seeing. Platinum is my favorite drone right now. Well worth it.
That's great to know, I almost bit on the mavic air but the range/reliability turned me off. Congratulations on a great channel, this is where I do my homework when it's drone shoppin' time!
Hi! is the same sensor and the same camera? No changes about that or the quality flight?
Yes - same camera and sensors. I am planning to do some other comparisons, but as I understand the camera has not changed.
Thanks again for a great video! I'm a pilot in training, RC plane pilot, and a photographer. I need this drone! Question- If I am flying in safe rural area away from Class B, C an D, airspace and away from ALL airports what is the max altitude for the mavic or Spark?
]\
most likely 14,500ft. class g varies depending on surroundings
How does the platinum behave during flight manoevers e.g. strong wind in opposite to the pro ?
Testing this weekend.
i bought the mavic pro original one! its ok if there is a minute battery difference and it was on sale on blackfriday so the prize is justifiable! good vid!
thank you for the great video guys! Really informative and helpful.
Thanks!
Question; Has DJI enhanced the build of the gymbal for the Mavic Pro Platinum to avoid the problems some of the standard Mavic Pro's had?
Is there any data suggesting a better gymbal on the Platinum?
Thanks for the VIDS
The platinum is about 60% quieter which is amazing
a test of the mavic with the new propellers and the platinum with the old ones will tell you so much more
These were my thoughts also
They DID test the new props with the Pro.
you've missed the point
and the point is buying every piece of crap with little upgrades?
Great video
Didn’t know Kevin hart love drones
what do you recommend for around $150? I already have GO PRO, looking for just a follow me feature so I can mount my camera
Take a look at the Mavic Pro Platinum
*BAM*
And the original Mavic Pro
*bam*
I would have liked to see the Platinum props on the Mavic Pro for the sound test. Would there be a big noise difference between them? Would it be better to sell the Pro and get the Platinum or just upgrade to the Platinum props?
Your school didn't have 1 foot rulers when you were young?
How soon will you be testing the Phantom 4 pro obsidian?
Probably won't be flying that one unfortunately!
You should put tho original Mavic props on the Platinum Mavic. Measure the sound and measure the flight times again with cross changed props for both.
changing propellers from new to old, can be too much A to ESC on the mavic pro
Great video! Very helpful thanks.
When you purchase the drone from dji, can you use my affiliate link? It's in the description of my last video. Thank you!
Just curious, what was the altitude difference between them for this test? It looks to be minimal but I am just wondering.
We tried to keep them both the same. I would say less than 10 inches difference.
Probably plus or minus 8 inches. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome video - could you do the db test again without speaking as the db reader is taking it from your voice, that’s why it kept spiking. Not a true test otherwise.
Sir the camera n gmble re same or there is any difference plz tell me which one is best
Does the Mavic Pro Have The carbon Fiber blade.. helps balance, sound, sound, quite a bit OnLY in my opinion
yes. When you purchase the drone from dji, can you use my affiliate link? It's in the description of my last video. Thank you!
That dog was adorable!
Agreed!
Just ordered the platinum pro! So excited 💯💯
Carluuchio Had mine since February. Your going to love it.
For me, an extra minute or two is huge for Drone work. But I do like a noisier drone. It helps me to find it in the air when I lose sight which happens more often then I would like.
Whats important when comparing the noise is also the lower frequency of the platinum, which makes the difference in practice even greater, as humans are more prone to higher whistling noises, even if a the same sound level.
do a test with platinum props on a pro body and test the sound
I’m thinking of buying a drone but bringing it over seas. Should I hand carry it or put it on my luggage?
knight knives hand carry
*Great comparison!*
We had some issues with vibration in camera with new props on the old Mavic, as the prop have lower RPM so vibration have different frequency, so make sure to test that out .
I'm actually shooting that today!
th-cam.com/video/E1tdqVWi2gE/w-d-xo.html
Just tested this...
If you don't already own a drone, the Mavic Pro Platinum is worth the extra $100 or so.
