I really liked what you had to say about kids and working. I totally agree with that statement. I'm 60 and I remember people saying the same thing about our generation. In 1980 I went to work for the gas company and an older gentleman took me under his wing and taught me everything I needed to know. He groomed me well and 40 years later I am the old fart still working and I try to teach and groom the younger generation the same way I was taught. You get a lot more from young people when you show them a little respect, and include them in what ever tasks are at hand. On the job and off the job as well. "Kill em with kindness" is the expression I was taught.

Hmm. The bulk storage idea is good I think of it for myself as well. I mostly pile mine up on pallets because it gets it off the ground. I don’t have equipment so I don’t have to worry about trying to scoop the wood. So I lay six down to make floor then put walls up in the sides and just fill it up. Works pretty good. I’ve seen the guys that do huge volume split into huge tall piles. Slider kev does his in three piles deep by 100 some of feet long. A rock bucket to sift out the rocks is then used to scoop. I plan on doing that once I’m big enough for equipment and to cover my wood yard in stone. I do stack some up for quick sales or to bundle.
I will have to remember to stack from north to south. I think stacking at the end of the day is a good way to wind down with no engines or saws screaming in your ears as well. The neighbors probably appreciate that too.
I just made a video about this i only use pallets because they are so useful for saving time while stacking firewood, i don't do the criss cross ends when i can just nail a pallet as the end to a stack and i don't ever have to worry about my wood stack falling over and it saves time not having to find perfect pieces for the criss cross ends

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. From the sound of your squelching I can see you stacking your logs on double palletsin future to ensure they don't get flooded! Over here there isnt a great tradition of wood burning but turf, or peat, burning is engrained in Irish culture that involves much communal activity, although this is ow under threat from environmental concerns.

Oven the years i had many teenagers, boys and girls,work with me for the summer, many would ask if i had anything for next year. My job was making two camping parks with picnic areas,three beach parks and three picnic parks operate smoothly. Often siblings would apply as older ones moved along. I only had two boys out of many that were not welcomed back which means they were doing the work,very few complaints from the public ,
interesting about how weather affects everyone so differently. Here in Fargo, ND. we just had our first measurable rain in the last two months, and only got just over an inch. It is the driest summer I have seen in the 14 years ive lived here. Yet we have also had sand bagging at spring times due to the flooding.
We’ve been getting the rain here in CNY also. Hot and humid, which is typical for August, but it’s been like this since May. Mosquitoes have been terrible this year because of it. Just looking at it, if there is a stability problem with the stacks, some cross-sticks between the rows would make it so that one row would help stabilize the other row.
@@ohiowoodburner That is totally awesome. I have started cutting all of my personal firewood 18 inches and the stacking is so much easier and looks really great. I have a splitter similar to your Super Split. In South Carolina we burn wood for atmosphere in a fireplace and occasionally a bit of heat.
@@ohiowoodburner Placing a sheet of plastic under the top layer of wood could help dry the wood and make the wood last longer. I don't know what the result would be. You may have already tried it or you could do an experiment. I think it would be worth a try on a small percentage. You might be missing out. I guess it is not commonly done but everyone's climate is different. If it keeps you from building a big roof, that would be good. The plastic may be a waste of time and materials. Hiring people helps you increase production and better utilize the equipment.

Hi Tom. Smaller splits are worth more money. The majority of this wood is for restaurants and they like a smaller split to fit in their grill, smoker etc. They coal-up faster for them.

The high school kids must be completely different in Ohio than Massachusetts. Kids around here would not do that much work for $20! If you have kids that are willing to stack wood that’s a no brainer!

I gotta be crazy cause I don’t stack wood and I got piles fifty feet high on pallets and it drys ,I’m not stacking 200 cord no way in hell lol ,firewood is enough work without stacking it ,every firewood seller near me or in other towns all got piles of wood on asphalt or on gravel or on pallets it drys fine ,this seems very unnecessary to me and just a ton of extra work ,but hey if u like it then have at it
@@ohiowoodburner I'm in mass ,this is the only year where I've noticed a little mold ,I usually have like 3wheel barrels of moldy stuff on the bottom and this year a little more because of the record amount of rain ,but the thing is for me is u have to take into consideration you're time ,if I had to stack my wood it would not be worth doing for me .that's just a tremendous amount of work to do that .I would have to charge 600a cord to pay for my time ,cause even know I enjoy doing it ,I still need to make money ,and again I go into new Hampshire and see guys splitting wood and they got 500 cords in a pile and it dries ,I used to stack it but I had to stop because it made me get sick of firewood
@@ohiowoodburner I only say it because people are trained to think that stacking it is the only way it dries ,that's just not true ,as long as it's piled off the ground it will dry no doubt ,but u have a processor so I guess u make up time with that ,it's something to think about man ,unless u got a bunch of people helping u and u got all the help u need then u good ,but if u are like me and doing it by yourself then u gotta find ways to do more volume with less work and that's half you're time is stacking wood I imagine ,but if u love stacking like Chris does from the woodyard channel than u should stack

I think if your wood is going to sit for a while N/S makes a lot of sense. Sometimes you can't make it work that way though. The key is sun and wind

I use my waste for kindling....put it in bird seed bags, easy to move, works great
when you burn wood you get warm three ways, once when you cut it, once when you stack it and once when you burn it.....

Pallets are the way to go for sure. They are plentiful if you know where to look
