Hey boss, do you know how to recrystallize menthol crystals? I have a video I'm making that about meth, and the crystals I got in the mail today were liquefied. What we have are solubility tables, which tell us the solubility of our compound at different temperatures in different solvents. We look for a solvent where the compound has low solubility at room temperature (or colder) and high solubility at hotter temperatures. This is ideal, as the crystals will come out when the solvent cools from being heated, purifying them. This is the general idea of recrystallization.
You can actually save the impure liquid that has been poured off and let it dry. This way you will have some pure and some impure product that can still be used in reactions that can tollerate impuritys
Thanks for the help. I'm purifying azides in different solvents and it's working well so far. I just added a bit too much solvent and need to evaporate some off.
After heating, placing the heated solution in the beaker into a styrofoam or insulating container will yield larger crystals but will take longer to cool.
You can reclaim lost product it just takes work. you gather all the solution you poured off in the initial purification till you have enough to again filter and recrystallize. This is only cost or time effective when you do continuous or repeated operations of the same kind.

Yea that's exactly the reason (15 months of lab work experience). But DI water is a "more pure" distilled water. So I'm questioning why a mid range pure water would do better in this application.
Kovu Legar I think it should work for most things in most solvents, as it has to do with crystal formation and solubility. You'll need to look at the individual things though. For example, heat doesn't help with NaCl as solubility doesn't change over heat, so you need to rely on solvent evaporation rather than temperature changes to cause it to crystalize.
+Kovu Legar fractional recrystalzation is the term you are looking for here, the reason it works is cause as the soluble holding of the liquid changes and the salts all have preferred solubility so one salt will completely precipitate out before the others do, you just have to keep changing the quantity storage of the solvent and when you see precipitate, filter off, not sure why he did not mention this, but the purification process is used for the stuff still dissolved in liquid that sticks to the crystals since you cant wash it off or it will dissolve with water, you would have to switch to something that is mincible with the solvent, but the salts you want are not soluble in, so repeating the process with the recrystalized material in fresh distilled solvent increases purity again, (since each time less liquid per crystal surface is available, and the content in the liquid drops too. :)

there is still liquid coating the crystals, even after the second purifying step. i think that one will not get rid of impurities unless one gets rid of the liquid phase. could you get rid of that by washing the crystals in a filter with some ethanol or isopropanol?
I've recently learned how to extract lye from hard-wood ash. I'd like to purify it as much as is reasonably possible to make a good quality soap ('cause why not?) Even though I filtered my liquidified lye using a microfiber towel (works reasonably well, when one doesn't have proper chemical filters,) I'm still left with a brownish/yellowish mess. How can a lay man like me clean this up?
Francis Roy There's honestly not all that much you could do in your current state. A coffee filter (or two-three stacked on top of each other) will give you much better results than your microfiber towel, but I suggest visiting hometrainingtools.com and picking up a simple chemistry set and some filtration apparatus. The combo will set you back a maximum of $30, depending on what you get. I would recommend getting one each 600ml and 250ml beakers, a medium size glass funnel, some quantitative filter paper, and a lab stand if your budget allows. Reply back or PM me if you have any questions, and good luck :)
Francis Roy Sodium Hydroxide (lye) doesn't really recrystallize (its more of a goopy corrosive mess) all that nicely as shown in this video, so filtration is by far your best shot.
Oh sure, but I wanted to make soap from absolute scratch. I'm trying to learn how to do thing without relying on parts of the world that I have no understanding of. Did you know that one can make one's own mayonnaise and not depend on the grocery store for it? :)
+pKai3 I was under the impression that lye from ashes was higher in potassium hydroxide. I have also read that potassium hydroxide can also be produced by mixing calcium hydroxide with the solution, which will precipitate calcium carbonate. Would you say this is true?
Very good video! Could you explain the purification and recrystallization procedure if it is not a problem? I have kclo3 obtained from sodium hypochlorite! Thank you in advance!
not related to this yes, copper acetate (or any other metal but not ones that cant oxidize) mix vinegar with hydrogen peroxide (household ones work fine) heat the solution untill boiling, then put in fairly pure copper (copper electrical wire, copper pipes, anything like that) the copper will create shitloads of bubles and the solution will turn dark blue green, let this dry and you will get either a powder or crystals of copper acetate (you can electroplate stuff with it)
When i was a kid o had powered soap water sitting in a cup with a few strands of light pole wire the aluminium type the next day it was growing crystals from the wire ..well like powdered crystal kind of flaky
MnO2 isn't soluble in water so it requires a chemical purification process. if i make ask, what do people use MnO2 for other than an h2o2 catalyst? if the use is interesting i might do a video on it.
i was already planning a few more combustion videos (including kno3) but i've seen channels taken down because they showed that sort of thing. i guess we'll just have to see.
have you done a video on hydro-thermal synthesis? would be interesting but for video it would probably have to have a thick fused quartz chamber walled system to be able to see what is going on, which I am not sure could handle the chemical reaction of water at excessive temps trying to dissolve it like say it does for aluminum oxide for growing sapphire crystals :)
Will this method work for sodiumacetate trihydrate? Well, I maybe have to get rid of the trihydrate thing, making in nonhydrate (correct spelled?), but how do I do that?

Nobody buys the recipe for free. If you want to have it, you have to pay and pay. I am ready
Hi Nice video Can you explain Me How many chemicals need for made this And how can is possible to get these chemicals. .please explain me
Richard priors favourite video apparently.
there is still liquid coating the crystals, even after the second purifying step. i think that one will not get rid of impurities unless one gets rid of the liquid phase. could you get rid of that by washing the crystals in a filter with some ethanol or isopropanol?
Spoken like a true 2weaker. Lol JK jk
I've recently learned how to extract lye from hard-wood ash. I'd like to purify it as much as is reasonably possible to make a good quality soap ('cause why not?)
Even though I filtered my liquidified lye using a microfiber towel (works reasonably well, when one doesn't have proper chemical filters,) I'm still left with a brownish/yellowish mess.
Reply back or PM me if you have any questions, and good luck :)
pKai3 A very practical answer. Thank you.
What is this used for. ?
Very good video! Could you explain the purification and recrystallization procedure if it is not a problem? I have kclo3 obtained from sodium hypochlorite! Thank you in advance!
السلام عليكم
can i do this with mdma?
Yep
do you know if aluminum acetate is dangerous at all?
Just curious to see if you're still alive
@@Casual_laughter Lmao I am. That was a LONG time ago I don't even remember why I asked this.
@@Sgt.Hartman 🤣🤣
What is the formula, Kleo?
not related to this yes, copper acetate (or any other metal but not ones that cant oxidize) mix vinegar with hydrogen peroxide (household ones work fine) heat the solution untill boiling, then put in fairly pure copper (copper electrical wire, copper pipes, anything like that) the copper will create shitloads of bubles and the solution will turn dark blue green, let this dry and you will get either a powder or crystals of copper acetate (you can electroplate stuff with it)
Is that machine measuring? Boiling, Vibrating or what?
When i was a kid o had powered soap water sitting in a cup with a few strands of light pole wire the aluminium type the next day it was growing crystals from the wire ..well like powdered crystal kind of flaky
Huh?
what other methods of recrystallization is there, and when should your use which methods? thank you for your time
Hello ! Have you done it successfully? I have been in trouble like you for 2 months now. do not know who can help me
ya, depending on what we talking about i have grown crystals of several types of salt, what are you trying tr recrystallize
MnO2 isn't soluble in water so it requires a chemical purification process.
if i make ask, what do people use MnO2 for other than an h2o2 catalyst? if the use is interesting i might do a video on it.
is it possible to use the recrystallization method on pottasium nitrate and sulfur?
Whoa there buddy :o
How do you test when is good crystal meth with aseona.or bleach
The only way to know is to send it away to be tested.
You can rinse it with acetone to wash some stuff away.
i was already planning a few more combustion videos (including kno3) but i've seen channels taken down because they showed that sort of thing. i guess we'll just have to see.
How can I purify ketamine Crystal?
Hey MY Name is chito i got a idea but a dont now what is for i just now that is for energy
If I may know what material is that, sir?
May I discover the compound, Sir
Bill Nye meets Walter White
I love that!!
Shill Nye is an engineer & actor, not a chemist or scientist.
@@ReapingTheHarvest who's shill nye ?
Would this prossess work with cladestine made ketamine hcl
have you done a video on hydro-thermal synthesis? would be interesting but for video it would probably have to have a thick fused quartz chamber walled system to be able to see what is going on, which I am not sure could handle the chemical reaction of water at excessive temps trying to dissolve it like say it does for aluminum oxide for growing sapphire crystals :)
So being tottaly serious, cai i use this to puify lye? cause i got the drano crap and i heard its not bery concerntrated. Please answer..any one.
Co the cho minh bit từ A..Z nha nguyên liệu mua ở đâu
Does it put the lotion on its skin?
when i did this the crystals turned back into the same white cloudy color. Does the Clarity of the crystals relate to their purity?
Will this method work for sodiumacetate trihydrate? Well, I maybe have to get rid of the trihydrate thing, making in nonhydrate (correct spelled?), but how do I do that?
I'm just amazed at what is going on with this guy and his product 😹
Can the purification be made any more efficient than this? It seems like allot of product is wasted.
question if the contaminants can crystalise out before the chemical you want does cant you pour the solution out then crystalise that?
Great video. In another one, you made MnSO4, then it could be purified by this way?
It's Sully I havr besi

What is being used to filter it? That white cone shaped thing
Thank you, I shall buy it once it is released.
