I’ve had several Honda/Acura products with the j-block. I must say that I’m impressed with the pull and sound of this lil 4-banger. And in the rare instance that I don’t wanna hear the lil motor, I turn up the audio on the 16 speaker sound system 🤷🏾♂️
Just got awd Advance RDX. love it. Drove Lexus RX350,Volvo xc60,Audi Q5 etc. RDX more pep than these. The best midsize suv is Audi Q8 but it's BIG and $80,000+tx+extra warranty
You forgot the BMW X3 Xdrive. That is the one that has this beat. In performance, build quality, interior, engine/trans. They cost more but you can work deals on them. I got a loaded one with the harmon kardon stereo, leather, panoramic roof, 19 inche wheels luxury package etc... The RDX is not remotely as nice. The X3 is quieter, and the bi turbo will beat the RDX in performance. Plus the Germans know how to get better MPG's from a bi turbo as well. If your buying an A spec or lower trim the RDX it's a great value. But once you get to the mid 40K range on an advanced model you are starting to compete with BMW X3. And you can get crazy deals on bimmers. I got mine for 47K. It listed at 54K. I test drove the RDX and the X3 destroys it on every metric.
Paid $46k for awd Advance RDX and good $ on Lexus RX trade in. I felt Q5 was blah and I own Q7 and A7. I dislike BMW styling but to each their own. Once you get prestique level and/ or 3.0 turbo price is high enough to consider stellar Q8
@@markmumford4877 46K for a RDX is too much. That's about what I paid for a fully loaded X3 xdrive. And I mean 55K dollar MSRP that I managed to get for 47K. I'm seen/driven the Acura and its not at the same level. You can't compare the bi turbo 2.0 with the 8 speed ZF to the RDX Its literally not in the same class. Interior materials and fit and finish are not at that level. Not even remotely so. But if that's what you want then I'm glad for you. I understand about the styling. BMW is very conservative. But now that I have it I have zero regrets. However, I would not have paid 55K for it. Luckily, I got a screaming good deal.
Yeah, 28 horsepower is all you will get from Hondata. For some reason the RDX is not seeing the increase the Accord 2.0T 10-speed is and that is because of the differential is made of glass and needs the fluid changed every 30,000 miles.
I love this car. I truly do. One thing that pisses me off, so much to the point that I’m considering not buying until they fix (if they do); the HUD is not offered in the a-spec trim. That was the stupidest, most annoying, logic-less decision Acura made regarding the RDX. And it’s not like they just want you to buy the higher trim level (the Advanced trim), because they don’t even offer it as an option to pay for. And the worst part is that it makes more logical sense for a HUD to be in a performance-forward trim level, relative to other. Total bummer.
yeah the car will not let u downshift to 2nd no matter what. only way to keep it in 1st in manual is to floor it from a dead stop. I love the new RDX. Great review Matt
Wife is wanting the A-Spec really bad, but the inability to get anything but the RED seats with the color she wants is probably a deal breaker. Acura needs to allow customers to choose black with ALL color options.
The new RDX is the first thing to come out in a long time to make me want something other than a sport coupe. I might actually trade in my RC-F for one.
Hey Matt, love the reviews. I was wondering if you could do a 1992-96 base model C4 Corvette. I know you did one but the difference is big and I'd like to see something more in depth. Thanks!
I don't currently have any offers to review a base 92-96 model but I do have someone that offered a 1990 ZR-1. I'd be up for reviewing the newer C4 though if someone offers one.
Which one did you find faster, the Acura Rdx a-spec or the Chevy Blazer rs that you reviewed. Also which one would u go with if you had to choose between the 2
I think wherever you got your times from is wrong, I’ve seen on sites 5.6-5.9 and I tested mine with a 0-60 timer and I got numbers ranging from 5.5-6.1 and the 6.1 was my first run. Update: just checked car and driver, it claims 5.6-5.7 so wherever you got your info from was a good second off on the time
Out of curiosity what sites have you seen 5.6 - 5.9? I believe the Car and Driver 5.6 - 5.7 you mention was their estimated 0 - 60 time before they conducted any actual testing. The best I see they achieved in actual testing was 6.6 as Matt mentioned and as seen here: www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a22805391/2019-acura-rdx-a-spec-value-not-performance/ The other website I personally trust for testing is Motortrend and they state a 0-60 of 7.1 here: www.motortrend.com/cars/acura/rdx/2019/acura-rdx-2019-suv-of-the-year-finalist/ I was really hoping the RDX would be closer to initial estimates of the high 5's but at the very least it seems like the vehicles are inconsistent in their performance. When I test drove the RDX it certainly felt much closer to 7 seconds. I really hope they move ahead with a Type S variant that delivers some improved performance in both the handling and power departments.
@@ryanevans3495 Yeah the times i got were definitely pre-testing. Ive been seeing a lot more mid 6 second times for the car. And i agree, the acura community is absolutely dying for a Type s. One of my family members who works in the acura HQ stated that they're making an MDX type-s, for reasons no-one knows... They really need to work on their sedans, no-one is buying the MDX a spec so why would people buy a MDX type s? idk Im really hoping to see an ilx type s so i can trade in this rdx or even a tl type s. I read that theyre making a tax type s with a v6 turbo, lets hope that stays and is accurate bc imagine a type s with a 2.0 T ://///
My 2019 RDX ASpec awd was SO bad I traded it after 3 months. It was a mess. Engine problems. The audio system doesn't work. The paint was the worst I've seen on a new car. The front A arms needed replaced. I suggest avoiding it for another year.
I bought the 2020 and I like it but I don't like how it steers on the highway. Did you notice any back and forth meandering? To me, it requires too much work to keep it straight. I had it aligned and it's well within spec. Even when I have the lane assist on, I can see that "it" has to do the work, so it meanders back and forth.
Really enjoying the car..ma few things I'd like to see changed... 1) I'd love to be able to have the headlight high beam and automatic engine stop lights dim as I dim the gauge cluster.. 2) I don't like that the important buttons and knobs are so small and far away....for someone who's vertically challenged I'd imagine it's a pain.... 3) the dynamic knob is way too big...looks pretty ostentatious to me... 4) windshield angle makes it difficult to gauge how long the car is...hard enough to gauge how wide it is.....I know there are sensors but on tight one lane two way streets I feel like I'd get in an accident with a mini if my paint were any thicker.... My friend said he thinks the engine should be higher to be more accessible For what it's worth I was a bit underwhelmed by the engine bay.....I mean this isn't a Corolla.....at least put an a spec badge somewhere.... Finally, I think the back looks better....but if love it to be more aggressive.....
Yes, I would. The infotainment system can be annoying, especially when using smartphone integration, and there have been some owners that have had other issues, but I still think it's one of the best values and best driving vehicles in its segment.
No folding mirrors on U.S. models (because Acura decided only people in Canada need power folding mirrors). Tow receiver is only available in 1 1/4 size, not the 2" standard that 99% of all hitch accessories come in - yet Acura doesn't tell you that on their online or brochure material...I'm guessing for a reason. "Snow" mode is a PoS, got stuck out in Tahoe on the slightest incline. Car manual for A-Spec is the standard manual, does not account for the differences in the A-Spec model - for example it suggest tires chains for the the smaller tire package and makes no reference to the 20" rim package which require different chains. F&F for this car is terrible (but I did set my expectation low knowing it was assembled in the U.S. 1) 1) Seat backing was popped off towards the top of the drivers side seat 2) sunroof gasket was pinched towards the top rear which I noticed as I was washing the car and 3) rear seat rattle which I had to adjust the striker to stop. We've had the vehicle for about 5 months now - I've added my customized touches to it to set it apart from others. Drive is fine, interior is fine, outside style is fine. Scale of 1-10 with 10 being best, this is a 7. I suggested my wife go with the Infiniti instead but she was set on this so we got. But everyday she curse the dumbs$#ts at Acura for not including the folding mirrors that come standard with comparable vehicles.
Looks very nice but it's interesting that you would have to do engine bay detailing after every rainfall. They left too big of a gap by the hood latch.
What's up guys.. Subaru WRX Fan Here, This is of course the all new.. Acura RDX Aspec.. Big shout out to Harrison Auto Sales for hooking us up with the RDX today.. 🤭
I’m not happy with Acura at this point because they could have done this with the first generation RDX! They had a solid 2.3 liter engine and they want away from it only to bring it back as a 2 liter. They should have made more after market turbo’s and parts for the first generation besides tuning. Now they got the same opportunities to make this truck even better and theirs doing the same thing. I wouldn’t buy it into some after market company that makes cars parts support this truck.
Norm T your so right! How long have people been asking for the Civic Type-R and they just now decided to bring it over here about three years ago. Look how they’re going without a TLX Type-S. Into they start building their vehicles where you can do some modification I’ll buy their base model cars or truck just to have something reliable around but I’m not about to spend my money on a vehicle that you can’t really do nothing to.
I like these but we ended up just getting my girl an 07 turbo sh-awd. Only had 30k miles and we paid 11k. Thing still pulls! Think it is like 240 hp 270 lbs. going to get one of these when the 07 wheels fall off
July 11, 2019 - An Acura RDX infotainment lawsuit alleges the systems suffer from problems with the radios, backup cameras and the audio and navigation systems. The 2019-2020 RDX SUVs are allegedly a danger to drive because of the distractions caused by the infotainment problems.
By far my vehicle from the Honda family of vehicles. I love the new redesigns on the Acuras, one of the very BEST looking crossovers out there no doubt. I would rather have this over its boring (yawn), ugly, seen everywhere cousin in the Honda CR-V. The extra 9k for the A-Spec RDX over the Touring trim in the Honda CR-V would be worth it and that is coming from a poor guy. Even though this isn't in the same size class, I told a salesman buddy of mine when were discussing Chevy's totally misnamed Blazer, that for the money you would pay for the RST trimmed or Premier trim at the 48kish mark I could get into many Luxury Compact Crossovers like the Acura RDX which is the one I mentioned specifically. Heck even in the same family one can get a 3 row Traverse Premier and High Country. But I digress, back to the Acura RDX A-Spec do you think it compares well in the handling and fun department with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio the non Quadrafolio version to stay close in price? I know that is another CUV that people rave about being able to have fun with carving corners and just all around driving experience. I haven't seen an Acura dealership in my area in the northern panhandle of WV to get a closer look, so I appreciate the thorough review like you always do.

I’ve had several Honda/Acura products with the j-block. I must say that I’m impressed with the pull and sound of this lil 4-banger. And in the rare instance that I don’t wanna hear the lil motor, I turn up the audio on the 16 speaker sound system 🤷🏾♂️
Are you sure there's pull? Norm T said that this version is soooooooooooo slooooooooooooooooooow...
Been waiting for this
Love how the RDX finally got the turbo back better than ever can’t wait for some aftermarket parts to put on the new RDX
HAHA I said the exact same thing!
@@killersushi99 so aftermarket is needed becuae it is not that good?
Love how detailed this review is love it subscribed I'll be back for more!!
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for subscribing!
Love my 2020 RDX A Spec!! More than my previous Q5 which surprised me!
"It is a really nice beefy wheel." - Matt Maran
I test drove the RDX and the X3 destroys it on every metric.
mark mumford The Audi Q5 is way faster who are you kidding
HiPlains1 I considered the X3 before I got a Q 51 lease sorry QX 50 in Canada the X.3 loaded like the QX 50 was far too expensive
This looks like it’s a lot of fun to drive, but there will still be some people saying “nOt BuYiNg It WiTh A 4 cYlInDeR.”
MUCH better interior for this all new Acura.
*Imagine popping a tune on this bad boy. Get it up around 300+ HP. XD*
Yeah, 28 horsepower is all you will get from Hondata. For some reason the RDX is not seeing the increase the Accord 2.0T 10-speed is and that is because of the differential is made of glass and needs the fluid changed every 30,000 miles.
There’s a guy that tune one to 345 horse power... Is the GRP Acura RDX. Look it up is bad ass
The K tuner can get these into the mid 300hp range
I love this car. I truly do. One thing that pisses me off, so much to the point that I’m considering not buying until they fix (if they do); the HUD is not offered in the a-spec trim. That was the stupidest, most annoying, logic-less decision Acura made regarding the RDX. And it’s not like they just want you to buy the higher trim level (the Advanced trim), because they don’t even offer it as an option to pay for. And the worst part is that it makes more logical sense for a HUD to be in a performance-forward trim level, relative to other. Total bummer.
Really, really good review! Subscribed.
Thank you for subscribing!
Norm T wants everyone to buy one today.
Um, this is the A-Spec, I think he wants us to buy the B-Spec. Or was it C-spec?
Great video Matt!
Great review!
Great review👍
The wheel in this is almost identical to our 07 minis all the buttons
yeah the car will not let u downshift to 2nd no matter what. only way to keep it in 1st in manual is to floor it from a dead stop. I love the new RDX. Great review Matt
Thanks Haris!
What's that white stuff on the motor?
Probably some residual road salt. Gotta love rust-belt winter problems.
With a tune, adjustable shocks and 275 tires it would be a beast
Damn, love that interior
matt please review cars/suvs that sell if not your great channel will go down keep it up men great review
Uhhh. What?
Didnt Acura had transmission issues on their Rdx,s and Mdx,s. Did they fixed that bad transmission problems especially the All wheel drive?
I drive to the store. I drived that car a lot. I really like droving!
I love my 2013 TSX...very impressed with Acura!
Wife is wanting the A-Spec really bad, but the inability to get anything but the RED seats with the color she wants is probably a deal breaker. Acura needs to allow customers to choose black with ALL color options.
Hi Lynn, I hope you have discovered that black seats are available on the A-spec trim. They go great with the red exterior paint
@@stevehendren1107 ended up with the Modern Steel Metallic A-Spec...with the red accented seats. It actually grew on both of us.
Exclusively Acura platform means the parts are going to cost more and fewer CRV parts will be compatible
The new RDX is the first thing to come out in a long time to make me want something other than a sport coupe. I might actually trade in my RC-F for one.
Did you end up doing it ?
The RDX is nice but I don’t really think it’s bigger than the X3. Maybe it is but the X3 seems larger in the back and cargo area.
Thank you for the reply! I'd love to see the ZR1 too! Or any newer C4 models. Keep up the great work. :)
Matt would you buy one used right now
Which one did you find faster, the Acura Rdx a-spec or the Chevy Blazer rs that you reviewed. Also which one would u go with if you had to choose between the 2
The RDX feels faster (thanks to the turbo punch down low) and more luxurious too. I'd definitely pick the RDX over the Blazer RS.
6:27 Who looked up Matt's Band/Song?
I think wherever you got your times from is wrong, I’ve seen on sites 5.6-5.9 and I tested mine with a 0-60 timer and I got numbers ranging from 5.5-6.1 and the 6.1 was my first run.
Update: just checked car and driver, it claims 5.6-5.7 so wherever you got your info from was a good second off on the time
Out of curiosity what sites have you seen 5.6 - 5.9? I believe the Car and Driver 5.6 - 5.7 you mention was their estimated 0 - 60 time before they conducted any actual testing. The best I see they achieved in actual testing was 6.6 as Matt mentioned and as seen here: www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a22805391/2019-acura-rdx-a-spec-value-not-performance/
The other website I personally trust for testing is Motortrend and they state a 0-60 of 7.1 here:
www.motortrend.com/cars/acura/rdx/2019/acura-rdx-2019-suv-of-the-year-finalist/
I was really hoping the RDX would be closer to initial estimates of the high 5's but at the very least it seems like the vehicles are inconsistent in their performance. When I test drove the RDX it certainly felt much closer to 7 seconds. I really hope they move ahead with a Type S variant that delivers some improved performance in both the handling and power departments.
Ryan Evans Are you kidding road and track the best they got was seven seconds the Q 50 is faster road track 6.4
Look at alex on autos he posted 5.9 in high elevation and said it would be faster in lower elevation around 5.5.
I need the other Acura models to catch up with the RDX updates
My 2019 RDX ASpec awd was SO bad I traded it after 3 months. It was a mess. Engine problems. The audio system doesn't work. The paint was the worst I've seen on a new car. The front A arms needed replaced. I suggest avoiding it for another year.
I bought the 2020 and I like it but I don't like how it steers on the highway. Did you notice any back and forth meandering? To me, it requires too much work to keep it straight. I had it aligned and it's well within spec. Even when I have the lane assist on, I can see that "it" has to do the work, so it meanders back and forth.
What car did you buy instead
My friend said he thinks the engine should be higher to be more accessible
For what it's worth I was a bit underwhelmed by the engine bay.....I mean this isn't a Corolla.....at least put an a spec badge somewhere....
Finally, I think the back looks better....but if love it to be more aggressive.....
Still rockin the ipod nano. Hell yes
Would you recommend this vehicle still today? Thinking about getting one.
If you use the Sport or Sport+ modes, do you have to use the paddle shifters?
I am planning to get a CPO 2019 RDX in a month or so, is there anything I need to know of ? Thank you !
Do the bins in the trunk come out ?
How's the ride quality of this suv compared to the Lexus nx?
Looks very nice but it's interesting that you would have to do engine bay detailing after every rainfall. They left too big of a gap by the hood latch.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but does this car not have remote start? I couldn’t see it in the keyfob
I believe it’s a dealer-installed accessory.
In Canada, the A Spec comes standard with remote start from Acura. I don't believe it is standard in the US.
Can use the phone app, you get 6 months free then it’s $120 a year
Dealer add-on.
What's up guys.. Subaru WRX Fan Here, This is of course the all new.. Acura RDX Aspec.. Big shout out to Harrison Auto Sales for hooking us up with the RDX today.. 🤭
Nice callback. 👍🏼
Matt, what company do you think has the best adaptive cruise control?
Cadillac Super Cruise.
What did you hit a cow? 16:12
That's just road salt.
Yup, joining the compact 2.0T race just a half decade late or so.
Did you get to keep the iPod?
No, but it's just a shuffle anyway lol.
16:12 Matt Jizzed after that acceleration haha 😂
i just got a brand new alfa romeo stelvio sport ti! what a suv....you just got it drive!
Great powertrain and handling plenty of room for a compact suv
11:10 is that a iPod Shuffle??
It looks like it. I still have my old silver one myself.
It is, indeed!
I like these but we ended up just getting my girl an 07 turbo sh-awd. Only had 30k miles and we paid 11k. Thing still pulls! Think it is like 240 hp 270 lbs. going to get one of these when the 07 wheels fall off
www.cars.com/articles/2012/06/why-did-acura-ditch-the-rdxs-turbo/
everything for me except the size. Yea its compact but i'd have loved it a couple inches higher
I can’t agree that 17 city and 23 highway are “reasonable numbers”.
What happened at 21:49?! Full on panic stop..
He's just driving aggressively with his camera gear sliding around. Always adds to the drama.
That's got to be the biggest damn badge ever on that front grill.
Did ur infotainment frooze up on u?
No it didn't. Just a little slow at times.
You think you can get your hands on a TLX A Spec?
Omar Rubio tlx a specs are trash..
My thought is I wish I have one.
Dude....you have to hit the select button in order for the car to give up control for you to go into full paddle shifters.
