    Not only your restoration are simply amazing, but also the video quality is, I wonder how many time in percent you spend chosing angles, moving cameras and lights, doing multiple shots (like the washer on the floor), but I can imagine that with the time spent in a single "video restoration" you can perform at least 2 or 3 ones without cameras. My respect for your work!

      Man, you are reading my mind on the video! It's like he is reading my mind about what I want to see. Almost like peeking over his shoulder.

      Thank you so much for leaving that comment, yeah it does take ALOT of time and effort and it makes the restorations so much longer and believe it or not harder to do as most of the time you need to work in awkward positions so that the camera can see clearly, But having folks like yourself commenting on how much you like it it makes it all worth while so thank you so much :)

    It's been 20+ years since I made a living as a suspension tech, but 2 things come to mind. The first you probably did but just didn't show, when refitting the top cap, you want to run the rebound in 3 or 3.5 turns. This sets the range of adjustment (if they're all the way out when you put the cap on you'll have no rebound adjustment, or at different points from each other and you'll have different settings on both forks).
    Second is conditioning the chrome tubes themselves, while not all Need this every time, it's bug guts and rock dings that tear up seals so we always dressed the chrome with a cross-hatch with some Emory cloth. I really don't remember grit, though the hatching was clearly visible... obviously, give a little more attention to any rock ding areas to knock down and smooth over the high points. The scratches won't harm anything, they simply fill with a Tiny amount of oil and give a slightly lower stiction.

    It would be more than enough to have both mechanical and bodywork skill, but this man also must have a photographic memory. He can tear apart anything without having done it before and knows exactly how to re-assemble everything! I'm lucky if I can clean and oil a chain without botching it.

  • @haga41cat
    @haga41cat ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Sorry to be that guy but I sure you've installed the springs upside-down, I'm sure the tighter coils go at the bottom which was how they came apart anyway.
    Secondly you've bleed the dampers then layed the forks down, and with the bottom end slightly higher they may require bleeding again. Great job though I've been doing this for 25 years and still love watching how other people do things, you can always pick up something new tips wise 👍

    • @RRCRestoration
      @RRCRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Several years back. I did a rebuild on my Triumph Speed Triple's suspension. After multiple rounds, due to seals leaking and poor performance, I found that factory suspension just wasn't for me. Ended up installing Mupo cartridges and rear shock for my setup. I probably took those forks apart 4 or 5 times in my garage, and this video just reminded mean that I still have that order of operations imprinted in my brain.

    Great work. Great video & editing with lots of quick cuts. Great sense of humour.
    And, for what it's worth, I love the accent too (I'm a Brit, but my daughter did live in Dumfries for a few years).

    That was a very good episode, it’s always delicious to watch how you rebuild forks. Thanks for your work.

    Top quality work as usual, I was surprised how clean the fork oil was. Going by the rest of the bike I expected much worse.

      I was totally shocked too but i guess that they got a rebuild when the anodizing was done and then didn't cover many miles afterwards.

    Another superb video! I wish I had 1/10 of you knowledge and ability! I'd then be more willing to have a go at servicing and working on my bike! Unless you fancy a short holiday in North Yorkshire! 😂
    There's no need to apologise for the time between videos - life gets in the way sometimes, as well as supplier issues, etc. When you're ready to upload, we'll be ready for watching!
    Take it easy and stay safe!

    Superb work ! I’d love to do something like this myself, but only have an old hammer and a pair of pliers.

    At 12:07 it shoes that the fork springs were installed improperly. The tighter coil windings should be at the top. The nonmoving end of fork tube. You should have check the fork tubes on V blocks to check for straightness with a dial indicator.

    Really enjoyed this latest episode although one thing made me wince- using the ball end of the allen T key to crack the yoke bolts!

    As a motorbike DIY'er, thank you for the tips and tricks you're passing on. The plastic to protect the top cap is absolute genius!!
    Is the plastic sheet over the fork just so you don't damage the seal when fitting it? What type of grease is the red one you're using?
    Thanks for all your time and effort man, you're a legend!

    The drain bolt for the fork leg was replaced with a generic hex bolt, personally, I find stainless bolts, with the numbers filed from the head, and then polished up can look OEM, those numbers (8.8 or whatever) always reveal them to be non original.
