  • www.diycastings... Having not used a torch to cast it is obvious that a better setup is needed but I still manage to get an excellent cast regardless. The tool in this video can be placed over the vacuum tube converting an investment platform into a vacuum casting platform. www.diycastings...

    I bought the same furnace from the local industrial surplus! Refit it with a ramp/soak PID. I now feel alot better itll work seeing you have the same. Thanks!

      This a product I used to make but stopped a few years ago. Buyers would have blowouts and then ruin the hose. Hmmmm, this gives me an idea.

    Hi, what kind of silicone gasket do you use? What is the highest temperature this gasket can withstand? Thanks

    • @craigdabler-thediycastings7511
      @craigdabler-thediycastings7511  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the silicone gaskets from Rio Grande. Look them up for yourself if you want to know these questions which I don't have answers to. However, these have been the best gaskets I've ever used.

    I was wondering how the vacuum works, is the plaster pourous enough to suck the air out or do you have a connection to the bottom of the plaster connecting to the vacuum?

    • @craigdabler-thediycastings7511
      @craigdabler-thediycastings7511  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After the investment is baked at high temp it becomes stronger and porous allowing air to be pulled through.

    Craig, will items with an undercut, such as one might normally do in lost wax casting?

      This particular product works with an investing table which already has a pump but if you go to my website www.diycastings.com and look under vacuum casting I have this plus some other models.

    This is a problem you face moving from spin casting to vacuum casting. You can't use an oxy torch and pull out the flask at the same time, a bit of a juggling act..

    • @craigdabler-thediycastings7511
      @craigdabler-thediycastings7511  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally, I use an Electro Melt which of course can't be used with spin casting but you're right about the torch.

  • @Savant218

    Why not just make a torch holder that will be positioned properly and that frees up a hand.

      99% of the time I use an electro melt so I'm not going to worry about making a tool I'd only use for one video.

      I actually did a tutorial on this on FB showing the piece being submerged and then coming out (I then erased the video off my phone before uploading to You Tube). I will probably need to do another video that includes everything.
