  • With only a vague concept of how to do this I am attempting to make a vacuum casting or vac casting table for o improve the quality of the casts. In the end it kind of works. The future will probably bring improvements.

    Also as dude below said, you need to pour in one swift motion, you're better off spilling over edges than having to stop pouring then start again, also that tilt at the start was way too slow. Think of pouring metal like trying to flip a cake tin to get a cake out or how they flip buckets to make sand castles but not as fast or dramatic. More of a smooth motion with no slam at the end but that's the best way I can explain. Hope this info helps but great video!

    Just a suggestion but I'd just drill a hole in the side and use a tap to make threads and skip the welding. You can also use a router and cut a circle on the plate and seal with RTV. I'm sure most of us would do things different on the second go around on most projects though. Good work!

    You need a crucible hold down when you pour. Nothing tight, just something to prevent it from falling out of your pouring shank.

    Dude, you're doing great! I own a commercial vacuum table and I'll tell you my hole I set the flask over is MUCH smaller than what you have here. It's only about 3/8". I completely understand it takes 3 hands when doing this. That second furnace isn't really doing you any favors. An electric kiln that you can set a temperature and leave it while you get your metal ready would make your life much easier. When we pour metal in the flask, you can see it get sucked in really fast. Don't dink around pouring. GET it done! Note what kind of vacuum you are able to pull on the flask before pouring and get back with me. You want maximum suck! The only other issue I see is your "tank" is HUGE and by the time you set the flask on it and pull a good hard vacuum on it, you've lost loads of temperature unless you have a really good pump. Something to think about. You might want to shorten that tank... BIG TIME. I would have used 1/4 of the length of that pipe. Keeping the nipple in the middle is a good idea. You WILL lose a flask at some point and will suck metal into your setup. Having it get sucked into the pump will ruin your day. Commercial tables are designed not to have this issue. If you want detailed photos of a proper $$$ table, I can get them for you. Just gotta give me an email address and I'll get them to you. ;-)

      @@sahilsquadron2286 I think that question was directed at me.. Its a real nice machine. For a home hobbyist, it's over kill unless you are really serious about jewelry casting. For a small professional shop, it would be a good investment. It all comes down to the size of your castings.

    I'd be interested to see how it would affect the casting quality if you added pressure to you chamber after the metal flowed in. I use vacuum and pressure in casting resin so that I can reduce bubbles in complex pieces like pinecone castings.

    • @lundgrenbronzestudios
      @lundgrenbronzestudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm. You cast pinecones? I tried doing that but didn’t have the best success. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to use the vacuum table here because I put a flask on it that was too hot and melted the gasket.

    I did not read the other comments so I'm not sure if someone brought it up, but did you bake the wax out of your mold or did you just melt the wax with the molten copper?

    • @lundgrenbronzestudios
      @lundgrenbronzestudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I melted the wax out first and then heated it hot enough to burn out any residue. It’s important that no wax remains in the mold if you want it to turn out.

    You added your pennies waaaay too late, supposed to add them before melting temp then let them mix in then get it to temp and when it vaporizes it will pull impurities out, what you did just instantly vaporised the zinc before it even hit the metal hahha, also don't breath those fumes in@@! They cause metal fume fever which can kill you.
