Calabria’s in Livingston and Angeloni’s in Caldwell are both worth the trip. You can even see the Sopranos house in Caldwell after you eat. Close ride. 🔫🍕
@@pizzareviewsonthego I have it on my list yea I thought the dough looked worth the shot if I was in the area for pizza. Had a killer sub in Keyport Saturday!
@@thegamebro1109 If you ever make it back to the Island, you gotta try Anthony's Paninoteca. It's a new place, great sandwiches, and the bread is pretty good and crispy.
They had Margerita available today. Same good crust, good fresh mozzarella with a good helping of grated cheese, tomato sauce was good quality but a touch sweet for my taste, basil was very sparse. Needed more basil to counteract the sweetness. Still a good slice but not as far above the norm as the plain slice.
Great review, would have helped if you were in front of Salerno's. Good pizza, good score! My go to though is Esposito's on RT 34. Thanks for the review.....Keep going.
Yeah I wanted to be in front of it but the folks that worked there saw me filming and were staring at me the whole time. So I moved across the street lol
Very nice. At first glance, I thought it looked a little on the average side, but the more I looked at it, the more I could see that it had a lot going on. Maybe not the kind of pizza that's gonna draw you from across the street, but not average, like a good 'plain porter' beer. The only thing I saw that I identified as a possible deficit was that the interior of the cornicione seemed like it could have been a bit airier. Feels like the standard for NY style pizza is still Lucia of Avenue X. That was a knockout. But 7.8 is plenty good enough for a pizza to get a recommendation, for sure. Great video.
Quintessential New York style slice par excellence. I did a double take and thought you went to Salerno's Apizza in Stratford, Connecticut. They make a pie with scamorza.
All the great pizza makers are opening there shops in Jersey now ..20 years ago you could never find a proper slice in jersey…..Brooklyn and queens is over for new pizza places except tourist areas….
Hey Antonio have you ever tried Pino’s Pizza on Beth Avenue and I believe it’s Bay 25th St. it’s been a long time for me but when I was a kid I remember it being really really good if you get a chance stop by
As far as views vs. likes is concerned, I think alot of people just plain forget to hit that like button as an honest mistake. It's like leaving the house, driving four blocks in the car, and then remembering, "oh man, I left the refrigerator door open, I've gotta go back." It's happened to me quite a few times and you do tend to feel guilty about it.
Looks like what I consider archetypal for the style (NYC area gas). I have a feeling I know the distributor they use for ingredients. I know I've mentioned them, but Lo Duca (literally a 12 minute walk from where OG Di Fara is located -- and they used to have a bustling place in Somerset but got an offer they couldn't refuse) is /extremely/ similar. I turned Scott Wiener on to them and he ended up moving to Ditmas and now it's his local, and one of his faves as well. Portnoy gave it an 8.2, which is quite high for "football pizza". He also erroneously asserted they knew who he was -- at the time they didn't and weren't fawning over him in any way -- Dave read it wrong or lied. If they knew they woulda made it well done, lol. If they were open on Sunday it would be one of Scott's core tour stops. I've always considered their pizza, though different and not boogie, to be superior to Di Fara, especially when ordered well done on a pie, or crispy on the reheat. Monday is the best day to go imo, as the dough gets an extra day of cold fermenting. If you do decide to go know that they are closed on Sunday like the good Sicilians they are, and they are currently on their annual vacation -- also the grandma is a must and even better than the round. They make a solid upsidedown, but the regular Sicilian is a bit too heavy on the cheese imo. Their core customers like what you and I would consider slightly underbaked sadly (they complain it's burnt 😖) -- so it's a must to ask for well done/crispy for the best experience. If you plan on going, feel free to hit me up if you want -- either way tell em Johnny Dubya sent ya 😉. Been too long since I've been and I miss them -- they are the best guys and de facto fam. I moved a while back and so I hardly go these days. Anywho, this place looks great and super up my alley. I wouldn't say I'm salt sensitive per se, but a lot of the Kosher places in Midwood are overly salty imo, but some people prefer it, clearly. Joe's (franchise?) non-OG locations I've found to be on the threshold of being too salty for my tastes -- I want the salt to make it pop and enhance but otherwise not be obvious, but that's me. One other thing to note is that these sort of well run pizzerias often sling a lot of za but may not look as busy simply because they move people in and out pretty briskly or the time of day has a lull. Di Fara often had a line partially because they were slow af. People called it an "experience" (which it was), while I wish Dom mentored helpers that got up to snuff when he was there. If you timed it right though (12+ years or so ago) you could walk right in and get a slice, no line -- even get a reheated Sicilian. I saw them make dough with standard food service AP btw. I may have a picture somewhere. Hope you enjoyed rocking out (insert devil fingers emoji -- old phone, don't have it)
LOL...I had a great time yes. This is the way all NY style pizza should be made at the least...the only thing separating it from the 8's is a lighter crust, ala Joe's or Luigi's. Everything else was superb. Salerno's blows away 99% of the pizza in Midtown Manhattan.
Looks can be deceiving. That turned out too be a nice slice, really liked the undercarriage. How was the "White Zombie" concert? More human than human...lol
@@pizzareviewsonthego Because 'White Zombie' technically disbanded a few years ago, It looks like a 7.2-7.4 slice, but you were the only one to taste it. You said it had a bold sauce. That is a feather in my cap!

This wasn't on the Lucia's of ave X level for sure but it's definitely better than a Lenny's.
Those slices look amazing buddy. Woaw!
