    You can use different headpieces and band's to have a variety of weapons sizes, keeping the trigger... And you can change if the water visibility is good or not too good...

    What kind of reel did you use? Is the mounting bracket on the gun standard for all reels?
    Thanks so much! Awesome vid.

    Fantastic work ! Concerning the middle of the gun, where it is broken down in two pieces : how did you drill the holes to precisely fit the rods. Must be difficult to line them exactly up ?

      +rokin89 Thanks for your comment. The gun made for traveling, this is the only reason why the gun is cutted, it fits to luggage. It works perfectly, speargun already tested in Mediterranean see, in Norwegian see as well, the gun still fine. By the way, i think you know Riffe spearguns, the have Travel model, so i made a copy. My friends using Riffe Travel, and they has no problems as well ;)

    I’m thinking of making my own wooden speargun with some of the wood here in Australia. Where did you buy the handle/trigger mechanism?

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. My suggestion is - do not think, just take it and do it :) The handle i made by my self by the same piece of wood. In Europe there are a few manufacturers who produce a triggers. But it will be very expensive delivery to Australia. I believe that you can find on google some sellers or resellers in Australia. Try Adreno sprearfishing

  • @donrussell1377
    @donrussell1377 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    uh, why not just saw a pvs pipe in half lengthwise, heat one half a bit, so that it will spread open and fit around the other half, so your wall thickness is stiff enough to withstand the torque of the rubber bands?

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      what the hell you talking, "master". You comparing cheap plastic vs beautiful wood with good technical specification!!? Please show me an example of speargun made from plastic, you will not find it. I think that you gave your suggestion not in right place.

    • @donrussell1377
      @donrussell1377 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      search youtube for 'backyard bowyer" about the strength and utility of PVC pipe. maybe you call glued together strips of wood "art", but others just want utility.

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Wooden spearguns very strong and there is no need to combine plastic with wood (of course if you gone a chose a good wood). If somebody wish to combine, then the best way together with carbon. As you can see in the video my speargun is tested in action, so it looks that i did everything good, isn't? and i say for plastic - big NO :)

    A question, is Meranti wood good for making spearfishing gun? Like durable what is cons and pros?
    Thanks

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. Sorry, but i'm not a specialist of wood. I just know, that the teak wood is one of the best wood for spearguns - it is light - good floating, the wood it self is protected from fungus and salted water, because it has some specific tar inside, and it's very easy to work with teak wood.

    Hey mate, where did you pick up the trigger guard? Im trying to find one for my own build. Any assistance would be awesome. Thanks

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Chris. Thanks for your question. When i bought the trigger it was together with guard in one piece, but i don't like that type of guard, because, as you can see in the video, the guard is short and very often buoy line goes inside the trigger and it's too dangerous during spearfishing, because it can shoot by him self. Now i did trigger guard and changed it. It's really easy, you just need a piece of stainless steel and some tools. If you wish, i can send you some pictures how it looks now.

    hey, nice work!! something i dont understand.....why using several wood blocks glued together instead of using one big block?

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yefet Yankovich, i will try to explain. The wood like material is moving/deformating it self, so before gluing the blanks, every second blank need to rotate, it will protect deformation to one side, every blank will lean to different side it's mean that they all together will stay in one straight. Here is the link for more detailed explanation with pictures. www.spearfishingtips.com/wooden-speargun.html

      so if i understand correctly i would want to have the wood prisms in different direction to support the wood structure under stress. thanks!!

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i made it by using very basic tools, i don't have any machines (that why the process has been longer and harder). Just one guy helped me make the rail for the shaft. Please start to make your own speargun, and you'll see what tools you need, o promise you'll find them in any building materials store. ;)

      +Peppo Biscarini yes, the mechanism ok for me, but i'm using this sprergun just 1 time per year during some travels, because in my country that kind of spearguns is not usable, we are using around 55 cm pneumatic spearguns, usually we hunting in lakes with bad visibility ;)

      +Tomas Ciuka oh yuck ahah I'm sorry. Actually I am landlocked now and live by a river, but we take at least 3-4 trips a year. We are looking to build our own triggers and I want to make sure they are smooth under a heavy load of a tuna gun.

    • @TomasCiuka
      @TomasCiuka  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi. Thanks for the comment. The shaft is folding as well. in the middle of shaft there is threaded connection. All works perfectly. Of course that kind of shaft not for blue water spearfishing, but for spearfishing during travel, not for giant fish, is perfect ;)
