Cheers and FISH-ON!!!
Beautiful fish Dan congratulations on the double. Doesn’t happen often . Thanks for taking your glove off to handle that fish . More people need to respect our native fish like that. Thank you Dan
Definitely respect these amazing fish - cheers and FISH-ON!!
Special place on the earth. Congratulations on the catch.
Well said and thank you!
Congratulations on the nice chrome! Love using the color white when chasing steelhead. (Zonkers, BH wooley/krystal buggers, etc). Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, white is a killer color for sure!
The glacier color Lamson Remix is such a beaut!
Matched the water on this day pretty well to :))
Love the power and runs those bullets have . After a few caught with white zonkers , I usually do well changing colors . Nice fish
Yes - the runs are awesome!
Thats a great run right there! Good spot :D
Great run for sure :))
Beautiful catch at the OP =) Looks a little chilly with your "cold thumbs up" haha Fish on!
It was definitely a cold day out there!
Bangin steelies like that is worth subscribing to see more!! Reminds me of the first time I went steelheading, my very first 2 in 10 min & then a year before I found another one. 😂
Haha - I've definitely had days like that! (and years too)
@FlyFishDan Im new to fly fishing, so I'll be watching you close & I went & grabbed 2 of those white flies today. I kinda feel bad, I had nothing white in my fly bag, but I use white maraboo jigs spin fishing 🤦♂️
I have yet to catch a Steelhead on the fly. Soon I hope!
Beautiful place and beautiful fish!
They can be pretty tough to catch, but it's an amazing feeling when you do!
Another great day for you Dan thanks for a great video
Appreciate that! It was a good day for sure.
Beautiful stretch of water. 😍
Good stuff for sure
I was waiting for one of those 12-15 lb'er. Taht would be fun to watch you catch. Brings back memories.
I'm building up to the bigger fish
@@FlyFishDan Dad always said the 5 and 6 lb ones are the most acrobatic and the most fun to catch. Biggest I caught was a 17lb
Awesome! Looks like a great day.
Thanks - it was a beautiful day!
SWEET!!!
Good day for sure!
Great video. The OP is a great place. That kind of solitary fishing is some of my favorite, even when there isn't much catching. I wonder if the time of year, winter, and the isolation of the peninsula may be the reason you don't see too many people fishing out there?
The time of year, winter, definitely has an impact.
It's the nightmare ferry schedule, lines & the freaking traffic on the peninsula now 😢
Looks like the Bogey!!!
;)
Very cool place. 🎣
Thanks 👍
Nice!!
Thanks!
Is there anything Dan can’t catch with sculpzilla?😂
I'm starting to believe that same thing myself! :))
Beautiful chromer
Thanks - it was a beautiful fish!
Love the title. I think the same thing after watching your videos...
Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Hey Dan. Were you using a floating or sinking line for that streamer setup? Thanks! awesome fish!
Hello! I was using Cortland's intermediate line with a 16lb 9' tapered leader to a heavy sculpzilla
Have you tried long sink tips or versileaders there? It looks like perfect water for swinging the same fly.
I have yes - I typically will adjust based on the river and water conditions. On this day, a long leader, heavy fly and intermediate sink did the trick
Nice fish! How do you like your Hellbender net and what model/size do you prefer for Steelhead? THX
Absolutely LOVE it, I had them special make my net, and now the size is in their line up. I asked for a 'big as* net' and they made one! Just light enough to hang it off my sling pack with two wading staff lanyards.
@@FlyFishDan Perfecto, thanks Dan!!
Beauts!! I am curious what leader and tippet you were using?
Thanks! I was using Cortland's salmon leaders - 9' 16lb tapered leaders
Dan what does your rig look like for those sculpzilla and other big weighted streamers. Is that an intermediate line?
I was using Cortland's intermediate line, with their 16lb 9' tapered leaders (for salmon).
I don't get it what are you using 20# test I ask because 30 if that seconds after hooking it you have it in the net. ???
16lb test, hatchery steelhead in cold conditions can be a bit lazy on the fight
Hey DAN what do you think about a automatic fly reel, Shakespeare, bought in 1971 in box only used 4 times bass fishing ANYONE else know about them.
Hey Ron - I don't know anything about that reel, but vintage 1971 is probably pretty cool
Is this video old? I can't find any open streams/rivers on the OP 🤔
Check out the WDFW special recommendations, plenty open for steelhead fishing.
@FlyFishDan will do! I have the app. I'm in the cascade foothills east of Seattle. OP is definitely on my bucket list! Thx
Be surprised how many people harvest those. Even when they realize it's the next seed stock they just kill em. Thanks for doing g it right
WDFW encourages the hatchery steelhead to be taken out of the rivers, so they don't intermingle with the wild steelhead further up (spawning area).
@@FlyFishDanwhy didn’t you keep them?
Hey Dan! I’m an avid fisherman in Ellensburg. Let’s go fishing!
You've got some great fishing over there!
Were those both hatchery fish? Could have brought home some dinner, otherwise they're just swimming up stream a bit to become cat food.
It was a hatchery - I just wasn't prepared to take a fish home...cooler was in the hotel room, no knife, no pen to mark the fish on the card...so I let it go
Gee....that looks easy. Great stretch of water, looks very fishy.
Nice stretch for sure
do you think a egg sucking leach would work?
Likely - steelhead seemingly like more movement in the fly, but I am sure that could work!
Next time you’ll get the 30 pounder
Now that would be pretty amazing
Nice fish... lost interest when you put split shot and an indicator... ( bobber) on a fly rod... whatever floats your boat.. spinning rod....
fish of 1000 casts? more like 2 casts
2 on this day! But usually...it's over 1000
Why can't you even spell check you title header? What is the "a" for?
That river was probably shut down and you didn't notice.
Well that would be embarrassing...I checked tho prior...very much open
I don't understand what fun there is in fly fishing with a float...it's like climbing a mountain with the help of a ladder
For that matter - why use a reel? Just hand line it in…furthermore, why even use a rod? Grab some string and a hook! Why stop there? Just fashion a hook from a sharpened bone, braid some sinew for line, and toss it in. Better yet, skip the hook altogether-just dive in and wrestle that fish like our ancestors did. True angling, Stone Age style!
Like everything that are fsh & game has been invaded charge of they have no management skills over fished and over hunted , it's all about revenue not quality
