I just saw her last Monday, opening for Jackson Browne, and this song had me crying like a girl. Broke my heart. I will be getting her music, for sure.
I am late to the game, I think, having just discovered this singer while browsing through Music Fog videos. I am an immediate fan, and look forward to catching up on her marvelous lyrics and songs.
+Victor Edwards the woman is an amazing musician. she's also a world class fiddle player. she was part of the incredible band, nickel creek, along w/ her brother and the sublime mandolin player, chrise thile. their vocal harmonies were top notch. chris does the lion's share of lead vocals but sara does take lead a few times they were a contemporary bluegrass band. they did do an album in '14 after a long hiatus but not sure if it was a time reunion thing or the band getting back together
This song gave me chill bumps. How hauntingly sad yet beautiful. It's like how a parent might feel letting go of a child who's leaving home for the first time.
There just could not be anything more beautiful. For those wondering about the instrument, it's a low-G ukulele tuned a step down to Bb. This is her normal setup for ukulele, in solo material and in the Nickel Creek days.
THIS IS WHAT GOOD SONG WRITING IS ALL ABOUT, Really touching peoples most personal and intimate feelings, Just read the comments, WOW what a great solo performance as well. Thanks for posting it
A duet of Sara Watkins and Maria McKee would be so immensely, incredibly and amazingly awesome. Perhaps it would sound too good to be allowed to happen.
@burpo It is a heavy song, not her normal sense of optimism. I bet the dislikes felt it was a bit too down. It is a wonderful song though, honest, sincere, her wonderful heartfelt sound really is a heart tugging force. It is blues of the most touching kind.
To borrow a line from Pink Floyd........Sara Watkins to me is "The Delicate Sound Of Thunder". Just discovered this storyteller. So beautiful her tones she rattles me to the core. So SOULFUL.
I couldn't find the album version of this song, so I just now uploaded it to my channel. For those of you who would like to listen, go to my channel and check it out. This version, though, is wonderful. Such a great, and beautiful song.
Wow. Holy shite! Okay shit! Both Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss discovered these guys and got them signed to a recording contract. Alison helped produce their first record! Lighten up Francis.
Cripes. Put Sara together with Eva Cassidy and holy shite Batman. The best female duet of all time. Ever!!!!!! Nuf said. Sara when you coming back to Ithaca, NY
@martenfox Perhaps "you" are a little too worried about "my Likes and dislikes" that YOU'RE over-compensating......hmmmmm...How ironic..... Admit it ...she just simply isn't that hot, that's all I'm saying
Very pretty voice, but I'm worried about "ddoublled" thinking she is the most "beautiful girl in the world". She's not even the most beautiful girl in the room....she's just a really good singer....try to control yourself "ddoublled"
As a grown man, to a grown woman. I just found this track. You are strong in all the ways I've been searching. Much love and beautiful nights.
Beautiful!
keep coming back to this vid :) Big Fan here!!!
Incredible.
This makes me want to give her a big hug.
I'll be right here...watching this over and over again...
That first line hits you like a punch in the heart
Discovered Sara Watkins on A Prairie Home Companion. Definitely one of my favorite musicians!
Honest music. Beautiful voice.
Her appeal is that she is real. It's the authenticity that takes one right to the heart of the song.
Very nice.....from a fellow Watkins
She is amazing! Her voice is so pure and so angelic! This is the music that should win awards.
...might have to watch this on a daily basis
my heart just broke into a thousand pieces
I love it. Thank you. What a beautiful song.
Brilliant music artist 👏👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶 and beautiful song
I just saw her last Monday, opening for Jackson Browne, and this song had me crying like a girl. Broke my heart. I will be getting her music, for sure.

so relaxed, so confident and such a good voice!
While delving for recent J.Hartford posts, I run into Sara. *staggers backwards, then catches breath*... Pure... Beautiful... Real...
Beautiful song and voice!
saw her perform this song last night as the opening act for John Prine in Phila. WOW!!! What a beautiful voice, song and talent!!!
Amazing, just fucking amazing.
Here we are : real soul music does not need any producing .. one good mike and we all hear where is the talent !
You're awesome :)
My one and only wish in this world is to be that ukulele!!
awesome. i teared up like a little girl.
In addition to being one of the most sadly beautiful songs I've ever heard, it is the most heartfelt performance of a song that I've ever seen.
what a beautiful and moving song that really comes from the soul. hope all is well with you Sarah. God bless!
Love this song
Absolutely beautiful...

@lottiesdad Thank you , well put and just where I am right now.

It's not a baritone uke in standard tuning?
This is my favorite version of this song. So good.
Simply awesome!
She is incredible talent. She can play different instruments, sing and write such beautiful songs.
Beautiful, as are you. Your music reminds me a little of Tom Rush->high praise. But it is also distinctively yours too.
What a song and what a babe
Cool
What a pretty voice, sounds like the angels singing.Seen her on Woodsongs last week and i am hooked.
I just found out that I missed an opportunity to see her live at MSU Meridian. grrr...

Who wouldn't want to see her face every day???
Wow. That's all, just Wow.
That's one sweet voice
If not one of the most beautiful songs ever written, then one of the saddest. Excellent.
I saw her perform this song on craig ferguson and the second she started singing I knew she was amazing
To borrow a line from Pink Floyd........Sara Watkins to me is "The Delicate Sound Of Thunder". Just discovered this storyteller. So beautiful her tones she rattles me to the core. So SOULFUL.
find her singing "Wont Want for Love" with The Decemberists Incredible, surprised the stage didn't ignite
When her voice no longer soothes me, I'll be in the grave!
Amen.
exquisite
moving....nice stuff
Perfectly written song

+Lee Hinton lol
What a beautiful voice you have there! :D
Wow. Holy shite! Okay shit! Both Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss discovered these guys and got them signed to a recording contract. Alison helped produce their first record! Lighten up Francis.
@lottiesdad my thoughts exactly..you can see so much hurt on her face as the thought of each lyric comes to mind..i know that look.
Think I put too many onions on my sandwich or something.
My last name is Watkins, if you havn't noticed. And she's related to me.... >:D
And my heart no longer moves you...
I love this song and actually prefer this version to the one on the album.
I own their most popular NC cd. She's def multi talented. Has a beautiful voice. And there's just somethng damn sexy about her...
Cripes. Put Sara together with Eva Cassidy and holy shite Batman. The best female duet of all time. Ever!!!!!! Nuf said. Sara when you coming back to Ithaca, NY
i think little jewel was mostly rickie lee jones
I'd take her fragile, broken, imperfect voice over any overthetop Idol-er
This may be a sad song, but for my love, my answer is, "in the grave". :)
Sara, do you ever sing "The Hand Song" anymore? I love that one!
4
"When my voice no longer soothes you"--- yeah, sure, that's gonna happen. NOT!
no alison? well alison is a violinist who can sing...not a singer who can play. so i would say this woman is a singer..first..
I wasn't enough .....
3 dislikes? What on earth were they expecting?
3 people don't know what music is .... Fact
No. But I do know how to spell Sherlock. :-) God bless America.
4 people aren't soothed by her voice...must be deaf. what are they doing watching youtube? lol
Marry me
@martenfox
