Sara and Nickel Creek gave that bluegrass rooted music a "pop" face and brought that Beatles (and others) influence to bear in their songwriting. If you listen to some of their harmonies and chordal choices, you can hear the influence. They made that "blue-grassy" music more accessible to those of us who hadn't yet given it a listen in its' purest form. I dare say that some of us found that we actually liked bluegrass once we were introduced to its' stylings in the form of NC's pop tunes. Beautiful and unique!
As someone who always claimed to hate "country" music I can honestly say I have always loved bluegrass, for it's authenticity, it's history, and most of all, for it's honesty. All missing in popular country music.
I saw her sing this in San Francisco on Prairie Home Companion. She said that she just wrote the song at the time. She made me a fan instantly! Thanks for posting this!
When the world discovers how much better she is than Taylor Swift and all the other pop icons, Watch Out! I've always loved folk music, but never given bluegrass much of a notice until now.
