    Excellent value for the money. Especially for the beginner who can have some great sounding pedals for a fraction of the cost of what I've paid in the past. When you get sick of being ripped off and start learning how to build your own pedals you quickly learn how cheap they are to build, even the boutique expensive ones. Don't throw your money away, there's nothing wrong with these!

    • @gainonten4031

      what about the thought that high end pedals have less "high end hizz, or more round warmer whatever" etc?

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. Some pedals can cost as much (and way, way more) than some amps! I have one or two 'boutique' pedals; but sold a lot and settled with some less expensive ones. VERY pleased with the Plexi Crunch, it cuts/shelves the bass so well (a bright pedal so I set the tone and presence fairly low). Just bought the XTC OD, which is completely different, and has a relatively full low end. The XTC also has a lot of highs, I keep the pedal tone low (despite it being quite a bassy pedal) and use the guitar tone to taste. My point of reference is my Fulltone OCD V1.4; the Plexi Crunch does what the OCD cannot (even with my Treble Boost pedal) - gets that tight Marshall sound. The XTC is quite versatile; min gain for clean boost, low gain for mild boost, mid gain comparable to the OCD, higher gain for even more harmonic content (and inevitable noise/fizz like other pedals at high gain). The XTC is not as smooth as the OCD, but by adjusting the pedal, guitar and amp settings it is a great pedal for the price. I picked up the XTC on offer for £20 new delivered...you would REALLY struggle to buy parts and build your own pedal for that...plus all the manhours!

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gainonten4031 Not so easy to generalize. Probably depends on individual cases (e.g. which budget pedal Vs which high end pedal). I will conceed that my £20 NU-X XTC OD is not as smooth as my £120 Fulltone OCD. At 1/6th the price, the XTC is a bargain, but we have to accept that it might not be so durable/last so long as the premium pedal. On the other hand, the Plexi Crunch produces a sound that was illusive on my (expensive) journey through numerous Fulltone, Boss and Electro-Harmonix pedals. At around £33 delivered, it was well worth the risk in buying a product that did what I wanted at 1/3rd to 1/4 the price. Pays your money and takes your choice.

    Buy both the Plexi Crunch and the Recto Distortion and it's definitely the best of British and American sound. Highly recommend this pair of pedals, excellent sound at an excellent price. The only thing that would improve it would be the resistance of the potentiometers, especially the Recto Distortion because they are somewhat fragile, otherwise they are excellent.🤩

    @Brett Kingman - Hey Brett, I picked up the XTC OD pedal, and I am using the clean channel on my Tech21 Trademark 60 (first generation) combo as the pedal platform. I find that if I set the controls to what the Tech21 manual calls "American Combo" which involves engaging the "bite" switch (basically seems like a bright input on a blackface with tightened up bass to me) engaging the XTC with the tone control ANYWHERE above 8 O'Clock sounds really really raspy, thin, and nasty..
    Setting the clean channel up without that sparkle added by the bite control and trying to get highs back from the master high and low EQ kind of kills the "quack" I can get on my position 2 and 4 settings on my two Strats when the XTC is disengaged. However said fiddling with the amp and keeping the highs in check seems to make the pedal sound a bit more like your demo.
    I am curious as to whether the Bogner Shiva patch you have in the Axe FX is more sedate than a bright input on a blackface amp? If you were to play funk rhythm on position 2 and 4 on your strat with that bogner patch straight without any pedals, would it sound right?
    I currently do not have another full size combo to test the pedal with that has a more traditional tone stack than the Trademark 60, and I am wondering if maybe this particular XTC pedal came from a run with some bad components in it. All the other demos I have seen of the pedal sound fantastic around the 12 O'Clock range on the tone.
    I just ordered the NUX Morning Star pedal to try that with the clean channel in full blackface mode and see if all drive pedals tend to sound too harsh and thin.
    Thanks for your demos, and thank you for your reply to my past question, you are most kind and generous, and you are fantastic at what you do on this channel.
    Cheers!

AC/DC, Sabbath, Beatles, Zep. that kind of music. Normally I have BOSS DC-2W Waza Dimension C. Pedal. Would you say that I could create a pedal board with just pedals? I don't use a lot of FUZZ. I recently purchased the Plexi Crunch pedal & used it at a local live gig, with my cover band. The first time that I punched it in, it sounded just fine. The next time I turned it on, the foot switch was noisy as hell & the pedal itself had a lot of noise/hiss. I ran it toward the front of a six-pedal chain. It was the only foot pedal that was on, at the time. All of my guitar cables/patch cords are perfectly fine, as is my guitar (Epiphone Muse with a Seymour Duncan "Custom Custom" in the bridge position), & my amp (Fender Excelsior turned up half-way, at the time...). I'm going to use some contact cleaner on the input/output jacks & try some different configurations. I hope this pedal isn't garbage...

    These drives sound every bit as good as their higher end counter parts really. Why we spend the money we do on these high end pedals I really don't know sometimes. Sometimes you get something that's worth it- the Tumnus Deluxe has been an extremely potent, versatile, well made pedal for me. The JHS AT+ is another really good one- it sounds just like the JCM800 and the boost on it is independent and works great with my other drives. But I have tons of other "high end" drives that turned out to be no better than the budget stuff I own. Some of them aren't even as good as the budget stuff I own.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Nu-X Plexi Crunch and love it (once the sweet spot is dialled in). It replaced a Boss DS-1 that I had. Just seen what appears to be a great Billy G/ZZ pedal, but the cost is 6 times that of the Nu-X. I cannot justify that just yet.

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SaxJockey I have it- it's a good drive. I also have several higher end, boutique Plexi style pedals like the JHS AT+ or the Alairex HALO Jr. - as far as the distorted tone goes, the NU-X hangs right in there with them. But- they are more versatile in that they both have really good clean tones as well, and a potent EQ on them. This is generally speaking the difference between these kinds of budget pedals and their higher end counter parts- the higher end stuff is usually more versatile and does more. The budget pedal will usually pick whatever is the main function of a higher end pedal and just imitate that.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stoneysdead689 Agreed. I have an OCD (V1.4) that is versatile (less drive). That is smooth but has too much low end for heavy rock (the V2.0 was even darker), hence the reason I bought the Nu-X Plexi Crunch. The El Hombre (Rockett) looks intriguing...and expensive.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Neon Thunderbird I also had the El Hombre shortly after my last post; I also returned it. It didn't do much going into a high headroom amp (guess most demo's use a driven amp). Instead, I bought a used RAT2, which surprised me; great for rhythm. The RAT is known to cut some highs, but for a little extra umpth, the (bright) XTC set as a clean boost into the RAT is great. I bought the XTC new for a crazy low price, and with the used RAT2 cost less than half the El Hombre.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey ปีที่แล้ว

      @neonthunderbird Guess I misunderstood some comments/analysis of the RAT. But yes, can be bright; I have the filter ('reverse' tone) around 1-2 o'clock to help tame that. The XTC is bright, I have the tone around 10 o'clock on that.

    I'm not sure of the quality of the other NUX pedals but if the Plexi Crunch I just tossed in the trash is any indication I won't be buying any more NUX crap.
    It's a plastic housing, circuit-mounted controls that move if you breath on them and it sounded like shit.
    Oh, the caps on the Marshally-looking knobs fall off if you turn it upside down.
    Total crap!

    Nux take their old models and put different knobs on it with some tweak on the aesthetic but nothing to drastic... Pure commercial products, nothing new here!!

      Vertex being experts on rip-offs. 😉
      With all due respect you are stating the bleedin' obvious. Does it matter though if the pedals work and sound good?
