I came here to see what you thought about the pedal and stayed because of your tasteful, superbly smooth playing style.

I always liked the NUX better than the Vertex (over glorified cleanish boost IMO) from every demos I've seen. More gain range, more compression. Sounds much more useable to me.

I stand by my first choice:
Boba Fett is still my favorite clone.
I'm a Kiwi. I have no choice - if I don't choose Boba, then Jake the Muss will beat me up.

Johnathan, I have really enjoyed your videos since I have come across them. Your playing is clean and approachable. Your focus is, appropriately, content directed. You present the heart of the item you are evaluating in a way that covers most players questions. And, no needless words. Altogether, you do a useable evaluation, showing enough territory coverage from the device without being sucked into the extraneous “noise”. You are a godsend. Thank you and stay strong! JimR

yupppp. ive had SO many dumble style drives. but this one right here i think is the prize pig. one thing they all miss is the gain knob. theres always WAY too much but this ones just right. i set it like i would an amp and stack ODs with it (sometimes the wampler pinnacle 2 sometimes the nux horseman ((which is equally as rad as the steel singer)) ) and it does the tricks. cleans up real nice w your gtr's volume knob

I've been amazed by Caline Pure Sky for months now, really. It is now my go to 'dirty clean' sound. I use it without much gain, just for colouring and making any flat sounding platform or amp sound a little bit more alive. Nice eq also. It just works, especially with the klon type pedal in front. :)

    Great stuff John.....
When I finally escaped from this rabbit hole, I decided to just try and listen to me ears. Consequently I have (as mentioned by other commenters) a Caline Pure Sky, a Mooer Rumble Drive, a Mooer Pure Boost and a Joyo Sweet Baby along side my Keeley D&M, my Tech 21 Blonde (which I would love your opinion on) and my Mad Professor Royal Blue...... they all play nicely together. Happy days!

That's the way I feel about my joyo sweet baby.......I put it on my board 7 years ago and turned it on and have never played without it. It just makes my amp sound better period. I've experimented with position and settings but always go back to right after my compressor at the beginning of the chain. It loves Vox amps in a big way!

Is that based on the BJF "Honey Bee" design? (It's had a few incarnations but I am thinking of the old Bearfoot/BJF pedal - he did a few "Bee" drives). I know that Mad Professor is a lot of his stuff - but idk about the Joyo, if it's "inspired by" or a 1-1 clone.

@@mattgilbert7347 I think it's the clone of MP Sweet Honey. Quite unlike any other pedal that I have tried with Vox amps. I was just ok with the Deluxe but shines with the Vox.

  • @Bushprowler

Btw. my favourite clone(s) are somewhat expensive.. one would be the Suncoast G2xl pedal preamp (almost a full clone of the Pearce G2x solid-state rack preamp from the guy that actually designed the PCBs of those rack preamps, best amp I've ever played for a variety of reasons) and the Kingsley Constable (basically a handwired 4 input Plexi preamp in a pedal with a secondary footswitchable master volume).. something considerably cheaper would be the first Danelectro Transparent Overdrive, this was my first "Timmy" pedal and I didn't even knew it until some months later.. it did cost me 30 bucks. Then I got the original because Paul is a great guy and designed a great pedal but I will try out this Nux Steel Singer for sure.

I had a Marshall Bluesbreaker on my board for the longest time. I bought it new in 1994 for £65 (they didn't sell that well initially). 15 years later, John Mayer played one, the prices went through the roof, and its been cloned dozens of times. In truth, its a very simple circuit, most certainly not without it's flaws, and there is little reason why a clone should cost more than about £45 these days. Real innovation needs have some protection against shameless cloning (to encourage it to continue), but there let's be honest, there are are plenty of pedals that are frankly overpriced rehashes of well worn circuits.

Hey Man, marvellous tasty playin, you finally got from neck pup to neck n mid, ha! I play my trusty Yamaha Pacifica 112V strats with neck and humbuck bridge for heavy leads..., my mid pup on the level with the pickguard..., have five of them Yam Pacs, and just "finished " finetuning the latest ones..., luckily I never changed pickups, theyre just for me...non-staggered! well balanced: AND/BUT the midlle pickups ( which I never use!)are supposd to be a "bit" stronger than the neck ones, .....but I think its subtle..., BESIDES the electric work of changing pickups for slight kOhm count ( like 6,2-6,4) is costly and probly futile tone/vol -wise, so I just think that Ive got 5 spare neck pickups in store...Ha!, one pedal ( the EHX HumDebugger btw makes my neck pup sound a bit more brighter/trebbier/cleaner? which is fine cause I tend to drift towards dark soft jazzy tone area...besides cutting single-coil hum, so theres "MY" neck/mid pup tone...Ha! no haha! just Haaw, now I get it...hmmm..., Cheers, K : )

    • @lzryd
      @lzryd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There is a difference. I recently sold my Analogman Sunface🔴 to buy a car and still have the old school Dunlop red also with NKT275. The Sunface was without a doubt better than the Dunlop but I lean on my Fulltone Soul bender Mk1 with 3 NKT275 now. New tiny soul bender mk2 are Trash, as NKT275 are long out of production.
Depends undergarment jokes aside... the secret is in the leakage. Analogman was testing and making matched sets with High Hfe to sound good ....while Dallas Arbiter and Dunlop just threw whatever in there without testing and matching. So in terms of sound my red circle is slightly muddier.

That Nux sounds sweet! I got a Mooer Blues Crab (Marshall Blues Breaker clone) in my pedalboard for more than one year, and with the gain at 10 adds a nice valve tone to any transistor amp or digital modeler. Also de Mosky XP Booster works pretty well as a Xotic EP Booster clone.

I see so many people on here demoing pedals like these and they NEVER use the bridge pickup maybe that is just that is where they 'live' on the guitar. Myself I mostly use the bridge pickup but that's just me but I personally would like to see both pickups used to get a better idea of what the pedal is like. Keep on postin though Bro.

This isn't a demonstration of the steel singer ; in that case you have to do more than playing with other gear between the pedal and your amp and tell us nothing about the steel singer.

This is more a demonstration of yourself , and I must admitt : you play very well.
