I love that even though Danielle saved herself, Henry was right there at that moment ready to do it, too. It's important to his character development that he be ready, willing, and able to rescue her.

This is my favorite adaptation and I don't understand why it isn't more popular. The first thing I remember seeing Drew Barrymore in was Firestarted although I watched ET in the theatres too but didn't know she was the little girl. I have loved her ever since Firestarter though. Growing up I'd say I was a combination of Danielle and Jaqueline.
I had the same reaction to Victor's response. lol. But I get it. I agree with Grace, there is definitely some strong woman empowerment here more so than in other Cinderella movies. And yes, Da Vinci is the "fairy godmother". I like this version because it's more "realistic" and we don't have the supernatural stuff to it.

The carrying of the Prince was apparently a reference to an actual historical event

Cinderella 1997 was a real colorblind casting, so yes a black mom and a white dad had an Asian son. 😂

I disagree about the stepmother caring for the dad....she 'barely knew' him after all. Also, when he dies and both she and Danielle were crying, there's another little clue....she says "You cannot leave me HERE." she married him because she wanted/needed his money. She was ambitious and expected Marguerite to climb higher on the social ladder. My opinion is that she pursued him, as she had a title and would be marrying downward in status. He likely saw her through rose colored glasses...a mother (with a title!) for Danielle and two girls about her age to run around and play with. I'm going to assume that she was widowed...historically when a husband died, the wife would try to remarry as soon as possible, especially if they were in a precarious financial situation. Noblewomen weren't able to support themselves. The only source of income would be another man. I'm also assuming that she was on the high end of middle aged, and it was much much harder to marry once they were no longer able to bear children. Noblemen wanted to have their own heirs, not take over some other (deceased) man's heirs. And they were girls, who were much more expensive to marry off. So she had to find a husband who could support her and her girls plus overlook her age. She'd likely been rejected more than once already or I don't think she'd have settled on a merchant with no title....

This is one if not my favorite drew barrymore movie. Drew was I believe 23 when she made this movie. I love her in this then never been kissed such a good actress. The music is so good in this especially when Daniel makes her entrance into the masked ball. It's so epic . 🙂❤️

Cinderella is by leaps and bounds, one of the most retold stories in the entire world. Interoperations of a story like it exist in almost every culture, with some uncanny similarities between even the oldest versions. Stories that are hundreds and hundreds of years old and written continents apart.
For the record, my favorite film version is 'The Slipper and the Rose', the1976 British musical selected as the Royal Command Performance motion picture for that year. In relevant modern news, the Queen was said to have like the film quite a bit. There is a full and edited version... and even as much as I love it, I will be the first to admit I do skip parts in the full one. You can only sit through songs like 'Protocoligorically Correct' when it's new to you, or you're in the right mood... but that first time? LoL!! I'd easily sit though it again to watch someone else see it for the first time. Other Cinderella's I like would include a German version called 'Aschenputtel', but it's hard to find. The Classic Disney one of course, as well as the live action remake, and the animated sequel 'Cinderella 3, a Twist in Time'. Which is the best and most underrated of Disney's direct to video sequel films. And this one, 'Ever After'.

Happy belated birthday!!!!! This is one of my fav movies of all time :) I've always related to cinderella stories and my name is Danielle so it makes this one a bit more personal. I agree completely that it stands out from the rest for MANY reasons. Love the reaction

I find it funny that the Step mother talks about manners to Danielle and Jacqueline when she has no manners herself .. She needs to be taught manners ..

I was exactly like this 😆. I was wondering "how"?. It may have been adoption, but it's not mentioned in the movie. So maybe in that reality they can have biological children totally different from their parents. I don't know. I have fun with it

Could you please react to The Slipper and The Rose, with Gemma Craven and Richard Chamberlain? If you like musicals, they break into song and dance to express the emotions.

Did you hear what drew when trying on the dress? Even tho she was fully dresses, she still felt naked only if most women these days felt like that .

The Brandy Cinderella version is ridiculous. I'm Asian but if you think about the period where Cinderella occurred, everybody is white. Though one can argue that Cinderella can be of African-descent because she's already considered a slave, but then again we go back to that time period where Europe haven't explore much what's south of Egypt. Definitely an Asian wouldn't be a prince in a European setting coz LDR wasn't a thing back then for royalties, they'd rather choose their cousins, lol.

This was a beautiful movie but without the fairy and the magic it just feels like something is missing. Like if you took away the magic from Harry Potter what would be left?
