In this video I forgot to mention another alternative to determine the pitcher-batter interaction. On the first roll you can roll a 20-sided die along with the two d6 dice. If the 20-sided die is 1 to 11, then the pitcher card is used, otherwise the batter card is used. This is fairly close to the method in the original rules.

As an avid watcher of your videos, the most important comment to make is that
I hope you feel better soon. Watch a video about jow great homemade chicken soup is for colds, especially if you add some fresh garlic and onions.
Jim Barnes was one of my sports game creation heroes, but i never heard of the Classic version of this game until I saw this video.

Hi Steve, always enjoy your game analysis. Regarding the catcher wild throw on steals. The retrosheet data supports a scored runner stolen base and advances another base on the wild throw. Martter of fact, beyond the wild throw some infielders at times will make an error on the catch or a follow up throw. In rarer instances the wild throw gets through at second base and the centerfielder will make a follow up throwing error on the runner.
Overall 15% of all errors are the type not allowing the batter to reach base on the play. Pickoff errors, and etc.
Picking nits, but after researching all the ends and outs of errors amazes me that errors can be analyzed by which fielder, the bat hand, bunt plays, by pickoffs, steals, rare caught stealing errors on follow up throws, the base situation, outfielders errors more off hits ( thows, bobbles) and etc.
The sad thing is a lot of realism is lost when baseball sims try to shortcut to much for simplicity, but lose some of essence and drama of the real game of baseball.
    👍👍👍

Thanks for your insights. This game in particular would never be able to reflect all the nuances that you mention.

Have you ever done a video on Pursue the Pennant which is now Dynasty League Baseball (both online and cards and dice)?

@@NickBriglia I have not yet. I’m only generally familiar with the game.

@@steve_etzel OK, thanks. There is a free rule book on the site in the FAQ section.

Steve - you truly have a gift for this! Timely, given the news of the recent passing of Jim Barnes - the creator of Statis Pro’s predecessor, Midwest Research. While I personally rarely use FACs, his innovation was truly groundbreaking. Whenever I see Classic Statis Pro, I always wonder “What was Avalon Hill thinking?”…seems inferior to the original game on several levels, as you hint to…

That's a much different edition than mine. I have the "Traditional" version from 1980 with the 1979 season. Now you got me interested in rebooting an old replay of the 1979 season. Thanks for the great video. Very informative about the game.

Thanks for the comment. As noted in my other video(s) on Statis Pro, the pitchers in the early versions of the traditional game had issues (2-9 pitchers were too strong and 2-5 pitchers were too weak). I don't know at what point they "fixed" that issue, but I think it was corrected by the mid-1980s.

@@steve_etzel Thanks for the reply and I'll have to go back to see what you stated. Plus, I am now too curious as to how much the issues are with the pitchers by comparing full season stats. Thanks again for your insights.

Nice. A flawed game, but that I always found fun to play. One thing to remember is that Avalon Hill was going through financial issues in the 80's/90's so I think they were looking for a way to significantly reduce the amount of cards in their sports games, hence the switch to the smaller player cards and elimination of the FACs and cardstock charts. By keeping the Statis Pro name they could attract people who were familiar with the brand, as well as possibly entice people to try the (more advanced) regular Statis Pro game (possibly reducing the large quantity of stock they had on hand).

A quote from the game creator himself (the late Jim Barnes): "Hockey was a disaster as was Classic Baseball, a very
easy to play game that was so-so in accuracy but never caught on. I created the game from start to finish
    in less than week."
