You have just proved to me what a decent, moral business you have. Great advice!
Totally agree Lyell and I had just sold my 04 black coupe with a manual and only 12,000 miles just before Ian blew into town in S. Sarasota to a guy in Michigan who worked at GM on the C5 platform and always wanted one just like mine. So grateful it was spared damage and of course so was he. As always, much enjoy your videos and thank you for all the down to earth advice. 🚘🇺🇸👍
Excellent advice Lyle
Thank you!!
My beloved C6 drowned in the garage during Hurricane Sally in 2020. RIP Jenna…😢
USAA paid me a fair price. (Not enough to make up for the sentimental loss, but objectively fair.)
I was able to make about $900 extra by pulling off the clear targa top and selling it separately on Facebook Marketplace.
Such a horrible situation…😢
Straight talk. Love it.
Great advice
Glad you guys are doing well in Florida. We are in Asheville, NC and this area has forever changed. There’s still limited cell service and we are still out searching for people everyday in areas that are inaccessible by cars.
Thought you were just great thanks Best regards
So nice of you! Lyle
My heart goes out to all who lost their corvette
As sad as losing a Corvette is, let’s be thankful that they didn’t lose something- or someone-irreplaceable. Folks further north had it far worse than we did.
Say googbye gracie she's all done, especially the packed with way tooooo much tech 'vetts
Great advice.
Hopefully good advice you will never need!
Pics are going around of a C8 Z06 flooded and drifted in Manasota beach. But can't imagine why it wasn't evacuated. We had 72 hours warning that the storm surge would be destructive, particularly for ocean front properties. So sad...
Maybe he evacuated his C2 big block instead, or his Ferrari…
Great Topic. I almost lost my 88 convertible from Ian. The water filled the entire abs module compartment. Thank god mine was rain water. Biggest thing i had to replace was the electronic dash. You are 100000 correct about this topic.
I dont live in an Area were Flood can happend.
So i always asked myself, how this Flood happend.
Did you know already Hours before, that a Flood will come?
Or is it more like, you lie in your Bed in the Night, and the Flood comes instant without any Warning?
My first call would to the insurance adjuster.
Every vette owner, should have another vette owner in some different part of the country on standby to help shelter their cars before events like this!
you too can help save vettes by donating a small amount of money a month to provide food and shelter for vettes affected by the hurricanes.
Love the video love the channel!
Perhaps a good lesson on making sure that you insure the car as much as possible to represent your investment- thinking of our C5 which did a nice amount of work with Lyle - would be upset if insurance did not cover most of the investment
Be VERY leery of any southern Corvettes for sale now if you are in the market for one!
Often cars damaged like this can be parted out. I have had friends sell the good parts from damaged cars and cover often more than their loss. Yes it is extra work but many times you can make up for the lack of insurance. This is more for fresh water damage. Even with out salt so much is damaged it is not worth the cost to fix.
Note to self, NEVER NEVER park your Corvette in Florida, except for Lyles place!
Certainly don’t keep your nice, valuable collector cars on a barrier island… If you have the money to live out there, procure secure storage a few miles inland! Lyle
I can't resist a joke, what do you do with a flooded corvette ? sell it too some rube.
seriously, I read a story about trying to rescue some kind of special corvette and they tried multiple very clever ways to try and get the absorbed salt out of the block and it always kept weeping salt. after a good amount of effort and money , they finally gave up. I only read corvette and the now defunct vette magazines so the multi page story was in one of those. If memory serves, if they could fix the motor, they were prepared to replace everything else, they were pretty serious about wanting this car back to life. .
Send it to copart so people in Utah can make a mint reselling it
Well crap...
I just decided I want a C-5...
Just started doing the research...
Now I'll be worried about a flooded cars popping up...
What is your advice...
Narrow the search to within 200 miles of OKC...??
Or wait until next spring to make a purchase...??
Thanks in advance... 😎👍
All you really need to do is isolate your possible purchases to cars that have a defined history. If a C5 Corvette has lived it's entire life away from the coasts, the odds of having it experienced salt water intrusion are exceptionally low. If a car you are interested in has no trackable history, pass on it. Lyle :)
I wondered how many were lost
I know of 2 in Black Mountain, NC. Both C3 bubble window cars
Hey Lyle, you said some people in Florida can only live in their rebuilt homes for 3 months between hurricanes. Hurricanes are only going to get worse and more frequent. Here's an idea, move to HIGHER GROUND! 😂
Lyle, have you ever heard of a shop reflooding a saltwater car with freshwater to slow the corrosion.
Good info thanks . Can you tell me how you did your diamond plate in the back round ?.... I ware my C&S t shirt and hat proudly out here in California . Also , can you recommend a good shop in Sacramento that I can trust to do my clutch ?.
We use a green screen and the diamond plate is a digital image… I really like it, too! I’ll check my list of recommended shops in CA for you tomorrow! Lyle
As a buyer.....what do I look for on a used Vette....to recognize it as a 'salt water car'?
I would think most, if not all insurance companies would declare your flooded Vette a total loss. Then its only value is for parts. I'm sure those with Tesla's, or other EV's, that got flooded are not so happy to have purchased an electric vehicle. Save the Wave 👋
Best wishes for you and the area Lyle!
And who wants to buy a vet with a salvage title? No one.
there are people on the Corvette Forum who bought salvage title vettes and are very happy with them. salvaged from accidents, that is.
For example, if you wanne build a Race Car. A Salvage Corvette is the best Thing to buy.
Because you dont need 80% of those Car. All you need is Cassie, Body, Engine, Gearbox.
And to build a Racecar you need to strip the Whole Car, to weld a Cage into the Car.
So Salvage Car (like Flooded Car) is best Thing can happen to you.
CALL HAGERTY ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!
Do Corvettes float ??
Never buy a car from FLORIDA. I'm sure there are C6, C7 and C8 Z06 owners who wished they would have moved their expensive car to higher ground. Hindsight is always 20/20. We did not and do not get floods in Summerville, SC. A 10 hour drive to our vacant garage could have saved one... So sad...
Dont sale your complete cras to people like this.. they will give you $1k for it! If its totally submurged try to part it put yourself! You will get way way more money! It it just have watter in the carpet just replace those component that were affected and jt will be just fine! Dont get scammed out of your money and cars. This sounds like an advertisment to buy your car for couple hundred dollars.
I think you might have misunderstood honesty.
take it too the JUNKYARD
Thanks Lyle/C&S ...will be letting go of my C5 Z06 w/only 16K miles, hopefully Progressive will honor my comprehensive coverage to full replacement value ...fingers crossed!
