      thanks for the vids! I'm looking for a low budget single, small/portable, battery powered light for a dj set at a concrete skatepark under a bridge. So the light would be cast on the 'ceiling' which is the bottom of the expressway bridge above us.

    Good video rick. The most important thing though after you choose your lighting is how you are using it PER songs. Match your lighting to what the song is doing, on the fly. It’s not hard to do and shows you really understand the music and how the lighting can help the vibe or the energy. Even simply turning all lights on or off at key moments (think shout or let me clear my throat) is the easiest example

    Rick, Here in Arizona I barely use my uplighting because a lot of the halls are catching on to lighting. Most of the halls are installing lights and uplighting and dj system and hiring dj's charging the clients in there package(if they wanted that) or the client can hiring there own dj or lighting, I had two wedding like that.

      No you use gobo projectors. Warm white ones for the right look. You can layer wash with the gobo to create a even cooler look

    Great video, i was looking deeply at some moving head-spots but not sure if i want to go that route just yet. What are your thoughts on moving head-wash's? I'm sure using a haze generator still makes it look cooler, but it is still a wash so maybe it could be used with out a haze generator and still get decent results.

    Thx mate for this interesting video. Just starting with light design & config :-) I was just wondering: when you need fog/haze for beam lights, how do you solve this in open air? I tested indoor with haze and that works vergy good. Didn't test this outside though.

    • @DJRickWeb

    • @DJRickWeb

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general if used improperly all hazers and fogers will setup alarms. Oil based hazers used in moteration have the best chances of not setting them off. Thats what I use. But also the type of smoke detector plays into if it will set it off as well

    Hey Rick, I think this might be a shot in the dark kind of question but I have been a Lumidesk Ultimate user for years and I think I recall you saying you were a Chauvet ShowExpress user. I am not sure how much different these DMX packages are but from the few I have seen, they have a lot of similarities. I am trying to duplicate the exact sort of "chase/movement" scene you have going in the 12:26 mark of your video. I was curious how you did it. My software has an FX Generator which helps create some of the more complex movements and bundled actions into 1 scene. However I have 4 moving heads I am trying to do this with and I see you are using 2 but I wonder if that matters. Supposedly Lumidesk is quite powerful and can do pretty much anything, or so I am told. The problem is I can't find anyone using it so I am sort of on my own in that respect. It was very expensive and I am pretty much committed at this point. Any scene design guidance you could provide that I might be able to translate into my application would be very helpful. Thanks.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always just use duplicate channels. Like putting multiple movers on the same dmx channels. Then in the movers built in menus you can invert the pan and tilt so the movers mirror each over.

    Hey Rick....need your opinion about a mobile rig. I have an ebike loaded with 3 JBL EXtreme 3 and a JBL Boombox. THe sound is thundering and I ride around Austin cranking psych trance and blow people away with my mobile bicycle sound system. What I want to add is a heavy duty child bicycle stroller to back of bike and load it up with lasers and a haze machine. Not sure what the portable battery requirements would be as they make portable DC powered battery packs that have AC outlets so I can buy power for the lasers. I basically have an unlimited budget and can drop $1000 on lasers, batteries etc. This trailer will be towed on back of my ebike and used solely outdoors at night time to have impromptu outdoor dance raves as I ride my ebike all over Austin. So this gear will only be used outdoors being towed by a bicycle. I am not doing this to make money but to just trip people out and spread good energy. ANy thoughts on which lasers you would recommend. I would buy 4 different lasers if you think that would work outside. These lights will essentially be going straight up in air and not projected against any backdrop. Like I rode my bike into the middle of a dark field. I am a very psychedelic person and will also be wearing some dope LED clothes for full effect. Thanks again to you or anyone who could share some advice.

    Hey DJ Rick maybe u can help me out, or anybody could chime in too... I don’t know how much to charge or even where to start. I’ve DJ’d before, plenty of birthday parties and even a wedding. (It went great I followed everything u and DJ Barr said about how y’all do you guys weddings so thanks to u guys it went great!!!) I know how to get ppl on the dance floor and read a crowd for the most part. But they were all for friends n family so I didn’t even really care how much I got just as long as I was fed 😅 but now more and more ppl are starting to ask for my services and I don’t even know what to charge when they ask... I have 2 JBL PRX 815/ 2-18” Peavey Subs/ 2 Focus Spot 3Z/ 6 Element Hex Uplights/ 2 Rockwell Glo Totems/ 2 Mega Hex (for the totems)/ 5 panel facade all w/ scrims/ 2 cordless Shure mics and Airstream DMX. What’s a good starting price or if I were to do a full wedding (Ceremony, cocktail, reception)? Any advice is good advice up to this point. Thanks DJ Rick and keep up the great content!!!

      If you were to justify a price to someone, you need to account for your fixed costs "Music, internet to get music, office expense to do prep work, Insurance if you have it, that kind of stuff", your setup/teardown time, transportation, you should also be charging a percentage of the amount of equipment you bring to an event all before you pay yourself what your worth for performing. You should be able to pay off a piece of equipment before it becomes obsolete, so figure on 20 - 30 events at most before something wears out or breaks and needs replaced so that you can keep your business profitable. Then you need to charge for your time at the event. This is just a basic idea in pricing yourself and your market might dictate how much you can make, but you should account for these things when giving out a price. If someone wants a longer event vs a shorter event you have to consider that as well. Good luck!

      Price shop your market and see what ever one else is charging. Then think about where you fit into the market. Lower scale, average, high scale. And charge appropriately

      Get anything? Like knowledge or like equipment? I have been DJing since 2012 and have a great wealth of knowledge to provide. The biggest thing with building and company and getting equipment is that you have to have your own drive and will to build it. My parents were anti me doing DJing. I had to one have a normal job making money and not use any of that money for DJing. Basically had to build the DJ side equipment and all with only DJ money that I made as a hobby when first starting.

      @@DJRickWeb I have DJ equipment and lighting and 1 moving head beam but I'm not allowed to get a Fog/Haze Machine; they don't mind if I want to be a DJ when I'm older as long as I can pay bills etc.
