Hi Alex, have you noticed the major problems the company behind this campaign seems to have? There a lot of warning signs, that company may have run out of money and is using this "chai tea for 2" campaign to actually fulfil last years "chai: high tea". Since December they have stated in updates in last years campaign that "next week" products will be shipped, but apparently nothing has happened yet. They are super engaged towars "fresh money", while "last years money" is being ignored and only given excuses. You might want to warn your viewers in one of the next Kickstarter Updates!
@@BoardGameCo Hi Alex, I don't "want" you to (english isn't my native language, so I might not be aware of all nuances like you are ;-)). I have no share in this, it was more thought as a "service" to you, as I thought you might want to know when you personally promoted a project, that there is a lot of fuzz going on there. So that you can build your own opinion if you as Kickstarter expert feel it's worth drawing others attention to those issues or not. Maybe everything is fine and just a bit chaotic, but your "kickstarter checklist" would show warning signs ;-)
I have backed Chai: High Tea Expansion and went all in with accessories and the base game, but like My SpamProtection, I have growing concerns about Steeped Games. I have all respect from the creators, and have no doubts that they are good people. I am just very concerned about the lack of clear communication (or even any communication at all). I understand that most small board game companies (and content creators) have a main job, and this a passion project/side job. I get that life happens, COVID happens, but just be up front and honest. Good customer service can go a long way, and a simple we are having manufacturing delays update is okay. Just be clear and give regular updates. For example, we have backed Merchants of the Dark Road which was supposed to deliver in January, and we will be lucky if it his here by the summer. They have been up front and honesty about they’re delays, and we have no doubt it will deliver eventually. Same went for Railroad Ink which was supposed to deliver late last year and we just got it about a month ago. Both companies were up front with their delays, and same goes for other games we have backed. I am not frustrated it is delayed (that goes without saying with kickstarter minus a few companies that deliver early), I am just concerned with communication after the campaign has ended. Another example of poor communication, was they said their pledge manager was going to launch in the beginning of July, and then no follow up until August when it launched at the end of August! Then no communication until November!! Wow!! Just read the updates and comment section of the Kickstarter to get more information on what happening (or lack of happening) with that campaign.
@@BoardGameCo We backed their previous Kickstarter and I second My SpamProtection. I been following their updates all along. It always seem like it is about to wrap up manufacturing/ship, then next update roll on by and it the same thing finalizing manufacturing/shipping etc. Dan and Connie are both intelligent yet the updates are unclear. I notice the communication between their existing backers and new money as well. They are active on their current Kickstarter and TH-cam for Chai for 2. However, I’ve seen a lack on real clarity on the Chai expansion Kickstarter and Facebook page. I’m just really perplexed by the whole thing. Everyone that uses Kickstarter expect delays but each update seem like we are being strung along..
I backed the expansion for Chai and got the base game too. Although I would love to back this one (the creators seem great!), I cannot justify it if I haven’t received the previous one.
Totally understand the frustration in having to wait a few more months than expected, so we really appreciate your patience Matthew. Everything's been paid for and in the process of shipping, so we're really excited for you to receive Chai and the expansion soon here! -Dan
I agree with you, Matt. This would have been an easy back for me had I not spent $140 on a game that I have yet to play. The bigger issue is the lack of transparency about shipping. Creators seem like nice people, yes but this whole situation has turned me off.
(First) I'm just waiting for the KS campaign to start. I agree with you on the tension. In fact, when I played, there were turns where if you just play more dice on the 'production' tile, you can both achieve 5 movement. Games about coffee: Coffee Roaster is still my favorite!
You do great “deep dive” videos into game issues. I wonder if you’ve seen the drama surrounding Steeped Games and how they’ve fallen off the face of the earth since the day after this campaign ended? Maybe the content creators like you have an idea of what’s happening because the “High Tea” expansion backers are about to form a mob…
I think the mob is ridiculous, I've commented on this already. The degree of what they want, how frequently they want it, and the lack of understanding they have about the current state of things...I'm not saying there isn't a scam, I'm saying they're operating as if there is a scam with no real evidence of it.
Was looking forward to this one as it's pretty much the only KS from your May video that I was interested in backing. My wife loves tea and would be who played with me. My backing was dependent on her so I made her watch with me. She shot it down. She said tea and "tense" should never go together haha 😆 She thinks it looks too stressful to play with me
The lack of tension is a selling point for our household as we quite enjoy multiplayer solo games. I think the theme of the game evokes a relaxing experience too. This already looks like a 4/5 to us.
Chai has been on my radar for a while ... for all thewrong reasons :D 1. It's GORGEOUS .... 2. Nothing about it gameplay wise interests me So when I saw this coming it was all my prayers answered. A small box !!! (very handy with a few lacerda's in the collection), gorgeous production, two player only (the list of games I want played after covid is long enough already), Dice! , a small board and a step up in tense gameplay. Btw. Coffee traders should be arriving soon if you want a coffee game! I know I pre-ordered that knowing nothing about it ... just thinking I need a coffee game :D
I always enjoy your take on the value of the KS vs waiting for it to come out later. But I must've missed it for this review. Could you comment on that please? Thanks!
We had chai, it was a bit too light for us. Beautifully produced, though. Not sure this really draws us in though. Looks like a simpler version of viticulture.
Alex my fellow lover of coffee, have you had the chance to look at Coffee Traders, Coffee Roasters and Viva Java? I'm so keen on Coffee Traders but the player count (3 to 5 minimum) and the price point is really hurting my keen-ness.... it's a 150% of having the Everdell All-in (as a reference)... I just don't get how it's priced so high
Alex, it been 2 months since this video and SteepGames have still been incredibly poor at communicating why there is a delayed in delivering their previous Kickstarters. Despite stating in earlier updates long ago games were produced. Something is clearly going on.
I've been following this plenty, it may well be a problem, anything can be, but the degree of impatience in correlation to the communication, and the general world stage is so incredibly bizarre. I'm not catering to the amount of people who are dissatisfied with the updates....at some point maybe, but not based on what I'm seeing so far.
I was hoping I could get an insight on this game watching this video, not knowing nothing about the main game but to be honest I did not understood anything 😅
I noticed that you started to say whether you would add the game to your collection again, despite announcing that you wouldn't do this anymore in some video. Did I just miss a second announcement and can we infer that, if you don't say anything, you're not be adding it? The components do look really nice here, I'm curious how the KS will be structured. And a very different question (that doesn't really belong here): Do you have any idea how much time before the launch publishers commit to a crowdfunding platform, and thus when we should see more games on Gamefound? It seems that at the moment, it seems to be much easier to stand out on Gamefound, so even with much less traffic I would expect some more publishers to try a gamer's game there.
You started this video off on a sour note by admitting you preferred coffee (SPIT, SPIT) to tea. However being a gentleman, I was willing to let that one slide, but then you doubled down, claiming you only drink tea when you're sick!! But your insults to all true "tealeavers" aside, this is a really good video. It's one of those games I'd love to play, but I'm not sure if I'd like it enough to invest in it. Do you play wargames and if so, have you seen Atlantic Chase?
Please update us backer. I really hope all is well with you guys and you aren’t dealing with Covid or something awful. Bad news or not updating the backers is a must at this point. Thanks
7:22 "I still like games about coffee" he says at a caffeine-induced breakneck speed. We know, Alex. We know.
Well....yes.
At this point, I'll be happy to receive the game.

That's a bit of a stretch. If you want me to "warn" people that a company is cheating them, you're going to need more than speculation.

One of the games that peak my interest on this month KS, and I’m definitely getting those dice trays, looks fantastic

When I review a game I focus on the game itself, not on the value. But rest assured I'll be covering this in this week's Monday roundup.

Don't worry Alex, Coffee Traders is coming in a few more months!!

It has minor similarities to Viticulutre....but very minor in my opinion.
Could putting out less ships give it that tenser feel you are looking for?
